The tacos were so fresh and my wife said that the enchiladas were the best she has had. Everything tasted fresh. There is a full bar and both inside and outside seating. We were here out of season so it wasn't extremely busy but it looks like it would be a go-to in season as it is directly next to the large main pool. Overall, we had a great lunch! read more

Walked in to grab something to eat, and had a 15-20 minute wait. It's spacious, and they have seating at the bar. It's spacious, with lots of lighting, and they have seating outside. It's close to the pool area. And they have about 5 TVs in the center where the seats are located. After we were seated, we got water and ordered. It didn't take long for the chips and guacamole to come out. It was okay, but the passion fruit margarita was very sour, so I got a Sprite. The Cobb salad was different in flavor, and the steak was OK. The cheese quesadilla was also okay, I mean, presentation-wise, nothing stood out as flavorful. Our server filled my Sprite with water before even asking if it was water, which was funny because she's the one who brought the Sprite. It wasn't busy regarding being packed inside, but the service was slow, and the mix-up was a bit annoying. They may have had people training, so it was not a great first experience. But there was nothing that stood out in our meal. This restaurant was convenient for dinner after traveling, within steps of the hotel lobby. Oh em gee. This was such a great last minute Mother's Day dinner choice. My mom said she wanted quesadillas so I used Open Table to see what had open reservations and good quesadillas. We headed to primero cantina and had our socks blown off! Of course we didn't LOVE that the chips and salsa weren't free but they were good so kinda worth it! We were able to sit outside with a phenomenal view of the hill country in that area. My dad loved his White Russian and mom's piña colada was YUMMY. They loved their quesadillas and my burger was so unique. It had a sweet sort of taste on it which I imagine was the chipotle bbq sauce? Never had a stuffed pepper on a burger but San Antonio is missing out! More restaurants should have that on the menu. We'll be back. This cantina has tinted windows just dark enough to give you a break from the relentless Texas heat and still get a view of the hills/pool outside! I was quickly greeted by my hostess/bartender/server no wait around 5 pm! There are Tvs all around so its an easy place to eat alone, it's also not loud like a sports bar if you want to chat. I enjoyed the baja-style fish tacos with corn tortilla, rice, and beans. Primero does this dish with a chipotle mayo and i noticed a chipotke smokiness in the rice as well (nice touch). I particularly liked how the lime citrus coleslaw which includes crisp white onion balanced the taco and beans. If that sounds good go ahead and ask for some on the side! If you're visiting its worth a try. My drink was a frozen (available on the rocks as well) hibiscus paloma with a tahín rim. Just sweet enough with out overdoing it. Went here for a quick late dinner while staying at the hotel earlier this month (2/8/24). My waitress was rude when taking my order, giving me the impression that I was taking her away from something. The centerpiece on the table that I was sitting at was missing the plant so it was just an old can with dried beans in it. They really should have just taken it off the table if they didn't have anything to put in it. The Primero burger I ordered was $ 18 on the menu but I was charged $20. When I asked the waitress, she checked with the manager and came back saying she didn't know why the prices were different. Apparently, the manager didn't know. They didn't honor the $18 price in their menu so I ended up paying $20. The burger was tasty but the cheese wasn't melted. Fries were crispy but a bit on the salty side. I would not order here again if I stayed at the hotel. read more

I was genuinely excited to try this restaurant, especially with its stunning views--but sadly, the food didn't match the scenery. As a local Texan and proud San Antonian, I left disappointed. We started with queso con carne, expecting the classic creamy cheese dip with seasoned ground beef. Instead, it came topped with thin, gyro-style meat slices, which was confusing. To make it worse, the queso itself was underwhelming--honestly, H-E-B's queso blanco blows it out of the water. For my main dish, I ordered the asada tacos, hoping for something hearty and flavorful. Instead, I got more of that gyro-like meat, this time bland and in a surprisingly small portion. I actually double-checked the restaurant's description because I thought maybe it was some sort of Mediterranean-Mexican fusion--but nope, they claim it's Tex-Mex. Let me be clear: this is not Tex-Mex. That said, the service was absolutely phenomenal--attentive, friendly, and efficient. If you're visiting the beautiful La Cantera Resort and craving authentic Mexican or Tex-Mex cuisine, do yourself a favor and venture off the resort grounds. This is a really cute restaurant on the property of La Cantera Resort. This seemed like the most casual of the options, so we ate here on the first night after a day of traveling. It's big and there are lots of TVs, but they were intrusive on our dining experience. My mom and I shared the nachos with picadillo, the taco salad and the ceviche. Everything was really delicious, but the nachos were my fave! Or actually, the chips that came with the ceviche were my fave- they were puffier! Our server was super sweet and friendly, although the poor guy was definitely overworked- I think there were just two servers in the entire dining room! My husband and I came one night since they were open a little bit later as we were staying on the resort! We were looking for something to eat to sit by the fire outside of the restaurant. My husband ordered the chicken quesadilla and I got a ceviche tostada. They were both delicious! However, if you decide to do the same thing and walk around, we did have a raccoon run to us and take my husband's chicken quesadilla while we were sitting by the fire. It was a very strange thing to happen and Honestly, a little scary. When we went to tell our waitress that took our order, she said that they have a little bit of a raccoon problem in the area so if you're there at night, please be careful. This is an ok restaurant. Service is absolutely horrible. It's a seat yourself restaurant so if the waitress doesn't know you've sat in her area, you won't be served. It takes a while to get a drink if you're seated at a table so you might want to go to the bar for your first round of drinks. Then order a drink from the waitress. By the time she brings the actual drink, you'll be ready for a second drink. Perfect timing. The Barbacoa nachos ($13) are ok. They don't have much meat. It's mainly beans and cheese. It's enough for two people to share as an appetizer. Ours was a little soupy/soggy. It could have used less meat grease and less cheese. Ok place to grab a snack if hanging out by the pool. The first thing I will let people know is that the self parking leaves you a little far from the entrance to Primero Cantina, but it is a nice calorie burn after eating. When I first walked in I was sceptical. It seemed like a marriage between a school cafeteria and a sports bar. I sat and ordered the chips and salsa appetizer, and for an entree I chose the carne asada tacos with refried beans and rice. The food made me forget any doubts or scepticism that I may have had. The food is well prepared, well presented and tastes AMAZING! I was impressed by this, and the very nice view outside. I noted that they offer outdoor seating with a view of the pool and the well maintained grounds. The walk back to the car offered a nice walkway surrounded by flowers that gave the entire experience a great touch of class. They brought my Sprite and virgin pina colada for my wife immediately in plastic cups (my Sprite never refilled as the waitress never ever checked on us during the half hour dinner time) After about 20 minutes, they brought two bags of to-go boxes, in a restaurant. We were sat down in a table, but they gave us bags of to-go boxes. The waitress then just left. We brought out the to-go boxes and food was cold and dry. If I brought my own cans of beans, they would be more moist and edible. "steak" fajita was somewhat edible but they were slight warm to touch and didn't look like it was cooked just before. Taste was below average, not inedible, but I expect more than this even if they sell tacos for $1.50. But they are charging $90 for this collection of cold and dry boxes. Again, please avoid at all cost and just microwave whatever frozen food you can get from the nearby Target. I would enjoy instant noodle more than this. read more

Come for the food and stay for the view. Primero cantina has a great selection of mixed drinks and TexMex selections. We enjoyed the guacamole, queso and chicken fajitas. The portions are massive! You will not go hungry. We didn't even finish the massive bowl of guacamole and I always finish the guac! The jalapeño margarita has a great kick and the prickly pear margarita is a good refresher. I have had the Baja tacos with a side of fries (you don't need the fries the three tacos ate plenty). And ordered the lamb sliders with Yuka fries (they come with the meal). To start with- chips are house made in oil, so yes they are not store bought dry tortillas but they aren't so oily it's dripping wet. Puffy taco is whatever, I'm assuming all there tacos are. The enchilada were small but I enjoyed the flavor. Even if you're not staying at the resort, I would recommend this place for the ambiance if you want to feel like you're on vacay. Went on a Monday for lunch so it was very relaxed and chill, only one other group. We got the tacos al pastor, (which needed a little more pico, pineapple, and could also use some cilantro) and the burger and fries, which were super great. The fries are those resort style poolside grill fries that are super crispy. YUM! Both meals were very filling-- large portions. Marisa was our server--Service was quick and attentive, she did great. food seemed slightly slow, but it's probably because it was lunch and we were feeling like we needed to get back in the office. Very disappointing for several reasons. Service was less than. There were at most 30 ppl in the entire restaurant and I shouldn't have had to wait 10/15min for a drink. Food was just mediocre - had to pay for very greasy chips and salsa, friend's quesadilla had a long black wiry hair (manager brought her a new quesadilla but did nothing else) and the margaritas were just ok.
