Primero Cantina located by the pools has some delicious Mexican food. I love the chips and guacamole for a starter and the chicken quesadilla for the main course but almost everything is delicious here. Service and vide are great too, overall amazing restaurant!

Hibiscus Paloma

This cantina has tinted windows just dark enough to give you a break from the relentless Texas heat and still get a view of the hills/pool outside! I was quickly greeted by my hostess/bartender/server no wait around 5 pm! There are Tvs all around so its an easy place to eat alone, it's also not loud like a sports bar if you want to chat. I enjoyed the baja-style fish tacos with corn tortilla, rice, and beans. Primero does this dish with a chipotle mayo and i noticed a chipotke smokiness in the rice as well (nice touch). I particularly liked how the lime citrus coleslaw which includes crisp white onion balanced the taco and beans. If that sounds good go ahead and ask for some on the side! If you're visiting its worth a try. My drink was a frozen (available on the rocks as well) hibiscus paloma with a tahín rim. Just sweet enough with out overdoing it. If you're a stawberry or mango margarita person this drink might have a tart bite that you'll love compared to a plain paloma (just grapefruit flavor). Oh yeah FYI: Drink $15 Tacos $20

La Cantera resort hotel conveniently located across from the resort pool. It is reasonably priced, with great restaurant views and interior, friendly staff, and our entrees of brisket tacos and green chicken enchiladas were delicious.

Cocktail Menu 2/8/24

Went here for a quick late dinner while staying at the hotel earlier this month (2/8/24). My waitress was rude when taking my order, giving me the impression that I was taking her away from something. The centerpiece on the table that I was sitting at was missing the plant so it was just an old can with dried beans in it. They really should have just taken it off the table if they didn't have anything to put in it. The Primero burger I ordered was $ 18 on the menu but I was charged $20. When I asked the waitress, she checked with the manager and came back saying she didn't know why the prices were different. Apparently, the manager didn't know. They didn't honor the $18 price in their menu so I ended up paying $20. The burger was tasty but the cheese wasn't melted. Fries were crispy but a bit on the salty side. I would not order here again if I stayed at the hotel.

Hotel restaurant, poolside. The food was good, our server was very good. Lots of seating inside and options for outside on the beautiful grounds.

Taco salad and ceviche

This is a really cute restaurant on the property of La Cantera Resort. This seemed like the most casual of the options, so we ate here on the first night after a day of traveling. It's big and there are lots of TVs, but they were intrusive on our dining experience. My mom and I shared the nachos with picadillo, the taco salad and the ceviche. Everything was really delicious, but the nachos were my fave! Or actually, the chips that came with the ceviche were my fave- they were puffier! Our server was super sweet and friendly, although the poor guy was definitely overworked- I think there were just two servers in the entire dining room! Not his fault, but the management should do something about that. All in all, I highly recommend!

First time visit and it didn't disappoint. The flavors were outstanding and the staff was top notch

This is an ok restaurant. Service is absolutely horrible. It's a seat yourself restaurant so if the waitress doesn't know you've sat in her area, you won't be served. It takes a while to get a drink if you're seated at a table so you might want to go to the bar for your first round of drinks. Then order a drink from the waitress. By the time she brings the actual drink, you'll be ready for a second drink. Perfect timing. The Barbacoa nachos ($13) are ok. They don't have much meat. It's mainly beans and cheese. It's enough for two people to share as an appetizer. Ours was a little soupy/soggy. It could have used less meat grease and less cheese. Ok place to grab a snack if hanging out by the pool. I wouldn't recommend it for dinner.

Three Carne Asada tacos with rice and refried beans

The first thing I will let people know is that the self parking leaves you a little far from the entrance to Primero Cantina, but it is a nice calorie burn after eating. When I first walked in I was sceptical. It seemed like a marriage between a school cafeteria and a sports bar. I sat and ordered the chips and salsa appetizer, and for an entree I chose the carne asada tacos with refried beans and rice. The food made me forget any doubts or scepticism that I may have had. The food is well prepared, well presented and tastes AMAZING! I was impressed by this, and the very nice view outside. I noted that they offer outdoor seating with a view of the pool and the well maintained grounds. The walk back to the car offered a nice walkway surrounded by flowers that gave the entire experience a great touch of class. I recommend you try this at least once, maybe three or four times!

These 6 to-go boxes of cheap food cost us $90+

Need real beef. Not sure what was in our carne asada or beef quesadillas. If you go stick to the seafood options!

Come try the Cuban and then tell me what you think. Pro tip: ask for a side of their habanero sauce and dash that on your Cuban or one of the arepas and thank me later. The folks here are friendly and have a chill, welcoming pep in their step. They were around enough to make us feel valued but away enough to allow us to enjoy our meal and conversation. The space is bright and airy with lots of windows for a very Miami-meets-South-Texas vibe. No notes. You order at the counter, take a number, and they bring out the food to you. I Ordered the Brazilian steak & guava and goat cheese cheesesteak. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. It had a little chewy fat caps on the end, but not a big deal. I really liked their yucca fries and the salad that it came with. Both were very flavorful. The cheesecake was different. It had a mild goat cheese flavor. The cheesecake itself was nice and fluffy. Overall, would definitely recommend this place for a casual lunch or dinner.

Absolutely delicious!…read more I've been to EDA once before and have been craving their empanadas ever since! Much like last time, there seemed to be only one person running the shop, the place was sparkling clean (including the restrooms), and there was ample seating in the dining area. The music was a little too loud, especially so in the bathroom, but otherwise the café was so nice. The menu is chock-full of delicious sounding dishes and boba drinks, but I opted for two of their ready to go empanadas. I had the Beef & Cheese, and the Chicken Salteña Empanadas. Both were super yummy and neither the beef nor chicken was dry inside. The fillings were savory, the Beef & Cheese amazingly creamy, and the Chicken Salteña a good blend of spices. The raisins in the Salteña did throw me off for a moment as I didn't think they worked all too well with the rest of the texture of the filling, but it didn't detract too much from the empanada. The dipping sauce that they came with was so tasty and flavorful as well! I was only able to finish half of each empanada because they were so big, but the server was kind enough to give me extra sauce with my to-go box. It added another layer of tastiness to the experience! EDA is a little out of the way for me so I'm not able to go as much as I'd like, but I know I'll be stopping in to snag an empanada or a boba tea when I'm in the area. I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try!
