They should take responsibility for their inability to maintain their facility properly. We had been renting an inside, climate-controlled 5x10 space for over 10 months. On 30 January 2025, we went to move our items out of that space and into a 10x10 space. Once we moved the first boxes at the entrance of our locker, we noticed that there were puddles of water on the floor and that it had soaked into our boxes and damaged our items. Numerous items were covered in mold and were ruined. Upon further inspection, it was obvious that water had leaked from the outside door of the facility and leaked across the facility floor into our storage locker. I immediately went to the office and got Patrick, who worked for Public Storage. He took videos and pictures as well, acknowledging that the water had enter from the outside and leaked into our unit. I showed him our damaged items and also provided him additional pictures via text message. He said we would notify Sherrie, the DM and that she would be in touch. This was on 30JAN2025. On 10 FEB, I contacted the Public Storage "WE CARE" line since the Sherrie, the DM had still not reached out to me. On 11 FEB, Sherrie did contact me and said that there is nothing they could do since I did not purchase insurance from Public Storage. My damage was caused because the Public Storage facility did not properly provide environmental protection from the outside elements (rain). Employees should have noticed the water running in from the outside, through the door, and into my unit. If they had done proper checks and maintenance, they could have notified me earlier of possible water leaking into my unit, and we could have prevented this damage. This was not caused by one event. This was caused by numerous events over a period of time.

Everything is now handled on line, from reserving the unit, to getting the security codes, to setting up the monthly payments. On our most recent rental I took care of it all from my recliner in less than 10 minutes. The facility we're using is clean, well lit, and secure. The on-site moving carts are always in great shape. Public Storage makes it very easy and convenient.

I rented a climate control unit at 5A Estate Drive about one year ago in Sep of 2025…read more Unfortunately, I only went there a handful of times to check on my things because it was only supposed to be for a short time, but it took me a year before I was ready to move into a new place. I never really thought that I needed to check on my things because the website says the following word for word. "Where can I find secure self-storage in Bluffton? At your local Compass Self Storage location in Bluffton! We offer secure self-storage, complete with secure, gated access and a fully fenced perimeter. When you choose Compass Self Storage, you can enjoy peace of mind knowing your belongings are protected while you're away." On Sunday, July 20, 2026, I went to make sure everything in the climate-controlled unit was ready to move because I was moving on the following morning. When I got to the unit, something looked different because my lock was on the latch and secured with a sticker on it saying "THANK YOU FOR DOING BUSINESS WITH COMPASS SELF STORAGE" , but I quickly realized that someone bent the mechanism that goes on before the lock is secured, but it was bent out to pop it to gain entry since the lock couldn't be cut without a cutting wheel. When I opened the unit, I instantly noticed so many things gone. Everything of value was stolen from me, and it had to take the thieves plenty of time to go through and find the things that they stole. They went through everything to find every power tool and electronic. Plus everything else that I owned of value. They stole my golf shorts, Ralph Lauren shirts-pants-jeans-socks, all name brand gym clothing, dri-fit shirts, socks, coats, Tommy John underwear (who steals another man's underwear), and 18 pairs of high-end shoes & boots. I'm missing a 65-inch Sony Google OLED television stolen along with a STUDIO PLUS ECHO SPEAKER stolen, but those things can't be tracked. I'm completely devastated because my health isn't great, and I'll never be able to replace these things because I'm not making the money that I once made. They even stole my safe that weighs around 200 lbs, and I hope they never get it open. As you can see, I'm emotional about it, but back to the facts: NO CAMERAS INSIDE THE CLIMATE CONTROL BUILDING THAT MY THINGS WERE IN! THAT'S RIGHT! NOT ONE CAMERA! NO ONE HAS REACHED OUT TO ME ON THE PHONE TO SPEAK WITH ME ABOUT THE MATTER. Only by email. I lost everything that matters to me, and they've not said a word to me other than in an email directing me to contact the insurance company. No one from Compass has called me back after I reported the burglary to the police and to their voicemail at Compass Self Storage of Bluffton. I don't want to rent the unit anymore but I have to finish getting my things out because obviously I don't want my things kept there anymore, but due to my limitations, I need to sell the items that are left on Marketplace Place because I can't move them myself. Compass Self Storage made sure to keep charging me for every month though. No grace or compassion... JUST MONEY! I just want others to know that my unit was broken into, and if anyone else's unit was burglarized, please put it in a review so we can try to get in touch with each other because I want to know who did this to me and to you too. I have my own idea of how it was done and NO ONE SEEN A THING! By the way, read the fine print when you purchase the insurance because they won't cover anything over $5,000, a safe, or any jewelry/valuables. My last calculation was well over $20,000 and it's a hard bullet to eat when you're getting robbed again by the fine print that we never really check because we're all in to big of a hurry. They only pay us between $1,000-$5,000 but believe me, they make it almost impossible to get anything back. If I can eventually afford an attorney, I will be retaining one If you have any information for regarding my belongings or if your unit was burglarized please feel free to reach out via thomasbushiii@gmail.com

I never leave reviews but I feel that I had to in this case. My family has been stationed overseas…read morefor 3 1/2 years and we needed a storage unit in a pinch. Public Storage at the Marshland location had availability for about $50 per month. In the past 3ish years, they have raised the price by at least $10, each year. When we picked up our things from our unit today, we were highly surprised to find all of our things had molded and rusted and were completely ruined. The entire unit itself was moldy and the whole floor of the unit was soaking wet, with the exception of one very small spot in the very center of the back. (Mind you, today is a beautiful, sunny day, no rain in several days, and the floor was completely wet.) When we rented the unit we were forced to purchase a special lock at an additional cost because the employees access, check on, and air out the units on a monthly basis. That they even spray for pests/ rodents. None of which was clearly ever done, as there were also findings of rodent droppings and bugs. When we brought that up, they said they didn't know where we heard that because they don't do that. We paid even more money for the insurance.... However, with the economy the way it is, we can't replace half the things we had in this unit for this amount, which was the maximum amount allowed. We shall see how they handle this, as I'm not getting the feeling they care about me as a customer at this point, after speaking with Customer Service about my concerns. Upon strapping our "now trash" down to our trailer, we saw approximately 20 nails and screws, some rusted, some new, in the parking lot in one little area, right where we parked. We picked up what we could, but beware if you're going out there! It's obvious that this place is not well managed or kept up and needs some serious work.
