This review is specifically for my personal experience with Alexis Murray P.A. & Astrid. We have been going to Primary Medical in Oxnard for a short period of time and my husband and I are so happy we stumbled across them. Alexis Murray is the BEST. She is very attentive, lets you fully explain yourself & your concerns, speaks to you so respectfully, doesn't gaslight you & tries to see things your way so that she can better understand you, & she respects your personal beliefs, & does not come off judgmental nor does she make you feel stupid. Lately we have been going to see Alexis Murray for my son almost once monthly. She is always so patient and detailed with us. She explains herself very well & lets us as parents feel safe enough to ask her many questions & figure out how to go about things in regard to my son's health. She also is so reassuring and makes us feel safe!!! She is a gem there. Astrid is a medical assistant there at Primary Medical and she was also very attentive with son. She made him feel very comfortable and made him laugh. When you have little kids all the little things matter & when they take the extra steps to make sure your child is comfortable it puts us as parents at ease. I, myself have also been seen by Alexis Murray & can attest to a great bedside manner. All in all, I am super happy that my whole family goes to Primary Medical in Oxnard. I initially looked up this clinic looking for an experienced Dr. When I requested Dr. Banman, I was advised that he was no longer available for new patients. (That was my first red flag). I decided to move forward because the oxnard location was convenient and across from my employer. First visit went well and it seems thereafter, customer service declined from the front desk staff and medical assistants that take you to the back. They are unwilling to be helpful and make snarky remarks. I work in health care and pride myself on treating all my clients with kindness so it's really sad to see other workers be rude and take their job for granted. The wait time is ridiculous regardless of scheduled appointment time. These are major things for me, time management and good customer service go a long way. I will be looking for another provider. read more

Primary Medical is such a frustrating organization. Don't get me wrong my experience with the doctors and nurses has been positive, however there receptionists make it very difficult at times. They don't follow up when they say they will. On top of that there's been several different times where they've given me wrong information or have pointed me in the wrong direction. To make matters worse they're often very rude and almost borderline confrontational. They can't be bothered and seem to act like they're doing me a favor whenever I come in or try to schedule an appointment. My roommate is very resistant to health care. but was sick with a cough & was referred to Primary Medical & was given an appointment with Lauren Corrigan. NP, & she is wonderful. She made suggestions regarding his health care, but when she met resistance, left it in his hands. I have been Faithfully coming back to see Dr. DeJong. Dr. DeJong has helped my health so much since started seeing him!!! I started having major health issues in 2018, was diagnosed with pancreatitis in 2021 and had surgery. But even after surgery I started to have complications, after finding Dr. DeJong he has helped to find me answers to my health crisis and he does not stop trying to find answers. I truly believe this doctor is God Sent and I'm very thankful to have found him. He's a walking miracle. Do not go anywhere else, the best MD is right here in Ventura County! Being a retired nurse, I am heavy handed when it comes to medical reviews. Especially since I know the all the tricks from a business standpoint. It is very difficult for me to find a doctor that I like. Most are arrogant but that's only because it takes some arrogance to get through med school. Let me also warn that I've only been a couple of times. The more I go the more I'll be able to say how pleased I am. For now though, if you don't see an update, consider this to be my current experience with them. First off, the staff is very helpful. They're polite and efficient. That does not mean that mistakes don't happen. For example, at my last visit they wanted to charge a co-pay but I reminded them that since I'm dual insurance we don't have to pay one. She apologized quickly and the agreed. I'm actually a complicated patient with a number of Diagnoses and more medications than a bag can hold and I usually use Internal Medicine but I couldn't wait for an appointment, so I got Lauren, a RN, CNP (not sure what California calls them, they do weird things that most states don't). I was skeptical, I'll admit it. Being a nurse myself makes me suspicious, always. However, Lauren is really good. I would prefer a little less rush since I'm complicated, but whatever. It works. This group has an online presence, where you can download forms. I would have preferred submitting forms online, rather than downloading and printing. They offer text messaging for appointments. They mixed up our appointments somehow though because we got texts saying we missed one. That was not the date we had recorded and I am very accurate. Also, it was an appointment for both my husband and myself. How could I get two wrong? Sounds like it was on their end. This doesn't mean that I don't like them. I do! I really am pleased. It just sounds like kinks need working out. What I really wish is that I could see all my past history and medical records online. I am from tiny Mobile, Alabama and even there we have that option and we're way behind California in the technology department. lol! Also, it would be nice if they had a lab at this location. As it is, we have to go somewhere else to get labs done. I remember the day when doctor's offices drew their own blood and sent it out. My those were the days! read more

I have been coming here for sometime even before COVID-19 shut everything down which means office visits nearly impossible ,but now that things have opened up again I have return for an in office visit which I was pleasantly surprised, the front office people were very kind courteous and understanding of my situation,lately the pandemic has turned people to be rude animals but this was different and I had to see a new doctor being at my old doctor of 43 years had retired this too was a pleasant visit I will continue to go here for all of my medical needs! read more

If you want to be treated kindly, look elsewhere. There are problems with the receptionists who need to learn how to treat customers. I felt discriminated against and felt I was treated differently because I am not Latino. Why should my appearance or national origin make a difference_ The doctor I see is fine, it's the front office staff that needs training. read more

Dr. Shenouda is absolutely amazing. He referred me to a specialist and personally made sure that I got an appointment in a timely manner. He is very knowledgeable and has excellent bedside manner. I would recommend him to anyone! The Lombard office is clean and the ladies at the front desk are very sweet and helpful. read more

Dr. Ruelas is awesome, if you can get in to see him. I can schedule major car repair (and probably have the work completed) before I can get an appointment in this office for a medical issue. Routine appointments are easy to make because they are made months in advance. Last minute appointments because something came up are a completely different story. I wonder if they think you only get sick on a schedule?? Update - Dr. Ruelas is still awesome. His front office staff still leaves something to be desired, but it has gotten better. A smile when you first walk in wouldn't hurt anybody. read more

This is not the place to go if you need basic medical aid for severe abdominal pains, as the staff cares more about socializing and taking lunch breaks then providing health care. My Primary Care Dr. that Aetna assigned me, Dr. Ruelas, was too busy to fit me in for an emergency visit to treat and diagnose my pain, a job urgent care centers send patients to the hospital for. After four agonizing days of pain, the staff fit me in with a PA (Physician's Assistant) and DO (Doctor of Osteopathy) or doctor that is certified in holistic medical treatments. However, both men never did examine the area of pain physically (I'm sure you can guess where the muscle pain was close to). Therefore, in this office, these two men, both too uncomfortable to examine me, just provided me with opioids and a prognosis of a pulled muscle. The PA only ordered an x-ray to check for kidney stones, but no other tests or exams were offered to verify that 'pulled muscle'. After 20 more days of horrible pain, and constant asking to be seen by Dr. Ruelas, yet being told "He's just too busy!", I complained to Anthem. They immediately assigned a female MD to be my new PCP. She examined me the same day (like a normal woman should be) and provided urgent referrals for exams and tests within 48 hours. The MD proved the PA and DO prognosis wrong as I didn't suffer from a muscle strain, but rather from fibroid tumors! And because of the delay at Primary Medical the tumors had only gotten worse by the time I was seen by my new female MD. To conclude, don't take a chance on this practice, because my emergency situation proves this office can't even handle normal medical concerns. There are plenty of great doctors out there, but at Primary Medical, you're treated and assumed OK, just so you will leave their "revolving door" and health insurance companies will leave wasted money. I recommend no one stop on by and give this place a try. read more

My visit with Dr. Ruelas was wonderful. He was able to diagnose a persistent issue that has lasted over 50 years that has simply stumped a multitude of other doctors. Additionally, I received a written summary of the visit with details of the diagnosis, medication prescribed and a plan of action. This is the worst office/medical group I have ever been so unfortunate to have recieved care from. The office staff is full of very rude, uncaring people. They are snarky, and don't listen. I went to both Oxnard and Ventura offices and both were poor in basic office duties like transferring records, filling prescription and general care. They treat you like its the DMV and it appears they take pride in creating an uncomfortable, and uncaring environment. My insurance called me to inform me they will no longer work with Primary Medical due to unprofessional behavior and lack of professionalism from their office staff. They ignored six request for paperwork, and only sent it when I called. Then when they did send it they only sent one side of all the paperwork. The manager wagged her finger at me and refused to do her job when I came down to the office. I can't say it enough don't go here. They will do the bare minimum, the doctors will play like they don't know anything. They will give you poor care, sneak in charges for paperwork. The office manager is unorganized, rude and flat out incompetent. Save your hard earned money and seek out a different place because everywhere else is better. They don't care about their patients and have no business being in the medical profession. I am never going back. read more

My family , friends and I went to the Johnson Drive location . They got very rude over there and we transferred to the Lombard Location. At first it was a little better the office staff seemed nicer . As we continued to go it was a nightmare . The doctor never called us for follow ups, blood test , medicine refills ... nothing . We had to call and when we called for simple things like a blood pressure medicine refill the office staff was rude , took days to refill medicine etc . I had heard rumors that these people are only nice to their friends and family , but chose not to believe them ... I guess I should of . Also, the doctor and office staff pretend to take notes when you go in person but every time you go in they ask you the same thing! My grandmother fell on her porch and we told them that story every-time we went !!!! I guess if it was just the doctors being a little rude we would have stayed but the office staff for the primary care offices is horrible. They are rude , disrespectful , roll their eyes , and to fax or email papers to your insurances or employers takes months if it's done because most of the time they don't send papers and charge . I would never recommend primary care to any of my loved ones , my family, friends and I have left this place ... best decision ever made ! read more

I was forced to accept Primary Care and Dr. Ruelas over 6 years ago when my Family Physician (Avery) retired. I broke my neck 32 years ago, and after 2 surgeries I am permanently "sentenced" to chronic pain and violent, painful arm spasms, 3-4 per minute for the rest of my life. Naturally, I must take meds. I've taken these same meds for 32 years, in which I never asked for a dosage increase or anything else. Well, about 4 years ago Dr. Ruelas decided, suddenly, that I was abusing one of my meds or selling them. So to shut him up I told him to stop prescribing it, because it was a temporary need for me to get over my wife's passing. I don't know where he got his idea. Now he has suddenly decided I'm abusing my meds again, these most important ones are for the chronic, intense pain and spasms. With no notice, he refused to refill my "spasm" meds and forced me to suffer intense pain for 5 days. Then, 2 weeks later with no reason or notice he refused to refill my pain medication and forced me to suffer THAT withdrawal for 5 agonizing days. To add insult to injurie, I even had to listen to his 'assistant' verbally abuse me with these same insulting abusive, lying accusations 4 years ago. Dr. Ruelas must fire that 'assistant', apologize and reinstate my original prescriptions and start over again, this time in a professional way. Otherwise, I will have no choice but to find quality care elsewere read more

Showed up 20 minutes before appointment time and they were closed. Online hours said they were open. I usually visit the Ventura branch and had no issue there before. All phone numbers at all branches said they were closed. Pretty bad. I don't understand how this is the only profession where this is acceptable. The front desk person JoAnna was very professional. Dr. Ruelas is always busy, the front desk personnel always put you on hold for a long time, and then they send you to a nurse practitioner at a different clinic. i don't get sick often but this time I was very sick and was looking to see my primary doctor, he could not see me until 16 later. I give big kudos for all the staff at Primary Medical. I've been to 3 of their offices (Ventura, Camarillo, Oxnard) and was always been treated with the utmost of respect and concern. Dr. Kopp, Dr. Nick & Dr. Delgado exude empathy, care and professionalism. I have no words to even describe how well they have treated me and my husband. When we were first switched over from our family doctor of 30 yrs., due to retirement, we were devastated as he was incredible. We were skeptical and believe me I'm not easy to impress. But during a horrible panic attack (which I didn't even realize what it was) Dr. Kopp was not only caring and attentive but direct and assertive. I totally respected and understood what she was telling me. My next more severe attack I saw Dr. Nick and he treated me with a calm demeanor, professional, caring and empathetic attitude. You would be extremely lucky to have either of these doctors treating you. I now have also "seen" Dr. Delgado, who took the virtual Med-appointment as Dr. Nick was unavailable at the time. I was a little apprehensive as I had a connection with the other 2 and had not met Dr. Delgado but she was as impressive as they were. It is rare for me to leave a review but felt compelled as they have continually exude exemplary service and a caring attitude.
