Had a terrible experience that I need to share. First time customer, scheduled my first visit to complete an annual physical, they are pretty busy so it was two weeks out - no problem. So I'm checking in to my appointment and read that the office is gladly accepting new customers - interesting, next page annual physicals are not accepted on the first visit - what? Well that would have been nice to know when I called...this didn't seem right so I call one of my doctor friends confirming my suspicions, that there is no medical reason for this policy but there is a financial one and that I should leave immediately...how horrible is that. The worst part, to what end is that mentality applied to the rest of the practice? Current and new patients beware. read more

I had rhabdomyolysis and didnt even know. They called me the same day and told me to go to the hospital and they kept me for a week. The PA called me regularly to check up and kept me in great health. read more

Definitely 5 stars for PrimaCare in Tempe! I had never been to the office before, and the paperwork to get me in the system was quick and easy to follow. All of the staff was friendly and my doctor, Doctor Shah, was very personable and didn't just treat me like a random patient. He got to know me, put me through a range of motions and worked his hardest to figure out what was wrong with my shoulder. The staff were even able to let me come back for a follow up before Dr. Shah left the country. If you're looking for a new practice to go to, definitely look at PrimaCare! I see why this practice has such high ratings, and I'm so glad I listened to fellow yelpers! I moved here from Michigan from school and had been using the health services on campus when I decided to make the move to find a more permanent physician, and if you're in the same boat as me I definitely recommend PrimaCare! The staff is really friendly ; they explain everything in such great detail. On my first visit the front desk explained all of the paperwork in easy to understand language which made the whole process a lot less nerve wracking. The whole team from the front desk to the nurses are friendly and helpful which is all I can ask for. As for the facility, it's always clean and there are never a TON of people in the waiting room, which is one of my pet peeves for some reason when it comes to doctors offices. The staff always keeps you up to date with your results via a health portal. This is pretty standard now days, but this app specifically is the easiest to use in my opinion. I made an appointment here after reading all of the positive reviews. However, when I arrived I noticed the chairs and carpet were heavily soiled and stained and everything looked so run down. Then a nurse called in a patient and she looked so messy and disheveled that I left without seeing the doctor. I think that an office and staff are a reflection of the doctor and his standards so I was afraid to proceed with the appointment. read more

After living in Phoenix for about 13 years I found it very difficult to find a good, primary doctor that I could trust. I found PrimaCare on ZocDoc after going through some serious medical issues. I was able to be seen the same day I made my appointment which is honestly the main reason I chose PrimaCare. I was seen by Kayla Shelley, PAC and I knew immediately PrimaCare was going to be my new primary care facility. Ms. Shelley is extremely knowledgeable, caring and she listens to what you have to say, which is so very important as a patient. I have been seeing her for just over a year now and I can not rave enough about her and the staff here. I live and work in uptown Phoenix and drive all the way out to Tempe just to go to PrimaCare! I've been here for several years as it was convenient. Some visits good, some bad. I haven't been in since Covid started, really hadn't had a need to. Kayla was nice, then she pawned me off on someone else. Last visit they sent me to a specialist that had 2 star reviews, I promised I would never go back but here I am. Called in for an Appt and the lady said I would need to restart as a new patient and Appt was three weeks out. I explained that it wasn't an emergency but my need was immediate. She gets me in five days later. Show up today after taking a day off work and driving across town only to be told they no longer take my insurance. They were nice enough to accept cash though, what? BTW, I have excellent coverage. Seems they have started an addiction treatment business channel, I imagine that's all they cater to nowadays. Unless you are a heroin addict, I would stay away as a Primary. Some basic customer service could have alleviated this, like maybe check coverage when someone is making an appointment? I do not recommend this practice. I went there to get a refill on my blood pressure meds that I have been taking for 20 years. I was told they would need to do some blood work in order to do that. I told them my insurance would not cover most of those tests and they assured me they would only run the ones that the insurance would pay and that my portion should only be about 25.00. I was billed 310.00 and when I contacted the billing office I was assured it would be covered but it never was. I called several times and it was never taken care of and they sent me to collections and ruined my credit score. read more

My health is obviously very important to me. So I wanted to find a primary care office that specialized in adult medicine; so I wanted an internal medicine practice. Second, I wanted my care to be led by a medical doctor. While I've had great experiences with PAs, I want to know that medical decision making for me is overseen by a board certified medical doctor. That's why I first chose Dr. Shah. But when I met with him, I was just blown away by his kind, compassionate nature and his sincere desire to first empower and educate his patient rather than simply handing out prescriptions. He took the time to listen and understand my medical concerns and then he devised a plan of treatment that very much included my participation. I could not be more pleased. I am new to AZ and previously been to several doctors not getting anything solved. After reading reviews I decided to see Dr. Shah and so happy I did. He referred me to an endrocologist for my thyroid and solved my stomach issues that no one else could. I finally feel like im getting answers and feeling like myself again. Yikes. I used to love coming here and their front office staff (Mindy and Sabrina) were always friendly, however in recent months there's been some turnover and I don't know what's happened. I spoke with a girl at the front desk who was rude when I called in for a refill on a script on Friday morning. I followed up midday and was notified my provider had gone home but still had her laptop and was working. I asked if she could reach out and make sure the script is filled today. Not only did she confirm she would contact Kayla, she also told me "it would be completed at the end of the day" and when I confirmed that would be when they closed at 4pm, she stated "That's the end of the day." Guess whose prescription wasn't ready on Friday, as promised? It's not about what you say but how you say it! When I called back this morning, obviously upset and asked to speak to the office manager, I found out it was the same girl who I spoke with on Friday - Kristin. Her lackadaisical apology and irrelevant excuses don't make up for her poor customer service. If she wasn't able to get the script filled she could have at least sent an email or called me back to let me know. Instead, I was worried I would go 3 days without my antidepressants but thankfully Costco will give you an "emergency" refill. Not sure if I'm going to want to return after this, which is a bummer because we love Kayla and Dr. Shah. read more

The reason for the 2 stars is because they completely changed their policy and didn't send any information out to their patients to let them know! Nothing via mail or email!! I had an appointment scheduled and they called late Friday afternoon to say that they would now be collecting a higher amount due to high deductibles. I'm sure this wasn't a decision that was made over night. Why not send something out to the patients explaining why this is happening?! Instead I showed up at my appointment and she tells me it would be $100 instead of the $30 copay for the visit and that it would be that much until I meet my deductible! Had I know about the new policy I would have been able to plan accordingly, however I had to leave the office without seeing the doctor. A loss of time that clearly could have been avoided. A little communication goes a long ways. read more

I came in one day as a new patient to see a doctor for a problem with numbness and tingling in legs and pain in calf. Doctor Shah immediately ordered an ultra sound and it turned out I had a blood clot. THE DOCTOR PRACTICALLY SAVED MY LIFE! I have had minor incidents afterwards and Dr Shah and Dr Kayla were extremely responsive and caring. I feel like I have another blood family here. Last September I had a pulmonary embolism and Dr. Shelley has been taking care of me since and she is fantastic. These days it's rare to find a doctor who takes the time to get to know you and her dedication to do what's best for her patients and follow through is refreshing and reassuring. She was so friendly and helped me finally figure out what medication would help my stomach out. She really does care about her patients and ive always been treated amazing by her staff as well. Unfortunately I have to update my previous review. I have been attending this physicians office for over a year now and wish I hadn't in the first place. They order unnecessary lab work, costing their patients hundreds and thousands of dollars; they lost my partner's blood work, made them return to get blood drawn again, and billed them for both occurrences; I received labs back with an illness that Dr. Shah did not discuss with me, one that is life threatening, and instead I overhear him taking verbal notes of how his influence of gut health has cured my depression and ailments. I was also scheduled several unnecessary appointments to go over labs when I did not have any pending lab work and then tried to charge me when I cancelled the appointments, they've filed my insurance incorrectly over a dozen times.. I have gone to Kayla for over two years. She is the ultimate professional and her staff is fantastic. One thing I think that sets her apart from other PA's I've seen is that she takes the time to really listen and empathize. I can talk to her about anything!
