I've had Ethiopian and Eritrean food all over the United States. This place is authentic and delicious!! I have to say I wasn't a fan of the Veggie Sambusa, but I've never had one before and it could just be personal preference. Everything tastes fresh, is very well seasoned, and the portions are great. The staff are friendly and I cannot believe this place was empty on a Saturday during lunchtime. The rich butter and berbere flavor in the spicy beef tibs dish was incredible. It's Ethiopian food, which I love very much. Two things. 1. The prices on yelp aren't correct, the veggie combo isn't $11 it's $12.99. 2. It's pointless to call ahead for a take-out order. I don't think they start preparing your food until you actually get there. Anyway, food is great and it's one of my favorite places to get Ethiopian food. Overall: great food, good ambiance, and great service. I had the chicken awaze tibs, which came with injera, a salad, cabbage, and (I think) lentils -- all very tasty! I was here around 2:30 and there was almost no one else here, so the service was great! The manager even came out to see how we liked everything. Not so sure about the Italian section of the menu; we didn't try it. We did have the tiramisu, and it was really tasty. The lady fingers were a bit soggy, but it we still finished the whole dessert in a matter of seconds. But if you stick to the Ethiopian food, you'll enjoy it for sure. read more

Several months ago I placed an online order for this place for pickup -- only to arrive and have them say that they don't do online orders. I showed them the receipt of my payment to Prima Injera. We came to the conclusion that there was a mixup in the computer and I ordered from a restaurant with the same name out in California. These amazing people gave me my food for free -- they didn't think I should have to pay twice. And if that wasn't enough, the food was absolutely delicious. The service was great! We were probably asked if we'd like more injera 3 or 4 times. Our water glasses were never empty. The food was served in less than 20 minutes. My roommate and I got the Awaze Chicken Tibs with mild spice and it was absolutely delicious. About $10 each. And we got a free tiramisu! It was also delicious (who knew that an Ethiopian restaurant could make such good tiramisu). The ambiance was nice with piano jazz music and cloth napkins and tablecloths. Although it is advertised as an Italian restaurant, it is Ethiopian. However, there are basic Italian options on the menu. My friend and I ordered chicken and beef tibs with the standard sides. The food was okay, but nothing spectacular, especially compared to all the other great Ethiopian restaurants in the area. We also ordered hookah, which was decent. The hookah lounge is comfortable and an enjoyable atmosphere. Food and hookah aside, the service was the worst I've ever had. The hookah came out promptly, but after 45 minutes our drinks had still not arrived and the waitress hadn't returned to check on us or take our food orders. I ended up going to the front of the house to get our waters. After that, the waitress came back to take our order. Again, we waited a full 1:15 for it to arrive. During that time, the waitress returned once to check the coals (roughly 45 mins. in). We asked how much longer would the food be and she replied whenever it was ready, in a sarcastic tone. We also never received refills on our waters during the whole time we were there. Let me also mention we were two of six people in the restaurant. When the bill arrived, a 20% gratuity had already been added to the bill. On the menu, it clearly stated this would be done automatically for parties of six or more. I asked the waitress about this and she said they add it if they don't know the customers to make sure they tip. I generally tip at about 20%, but being forced to tip well for awful service didn't sit well for me. For either Ethiopian or Italian food, go anywhere else. read more

I don't know who is giving this place good reviews but I have my suspicions... Girls night out! Yay! But this place BOOOOO! So we get there and get seated... takes the waitress 5 minutes to bring the menus. Did I mention the place was EMPTY! She leaves us alone after that for 20 minutes. When she comes back she doesn't have paper to write with. So another 10 minutes. Are you keeping track? We've been there more than 30 minutes with no food or water. She finally takes our order.... we ordered 2 appetizers for the table. We got charged for 3. The appetizers took a long time to come and when they came, they were cold. They weren't supposed to be. But they were. Another 20 minutes for the food to arrive. Most of the food on my plate was cold but the salmon was over cooked and so burned that it was crunchy. The waitress said there was nothing she could do about it. She got 2 other people's order wrong. And she served us tap water out of a dirty pitcher which she clearly didn't care about because she left that nastiness on the table. So.... at the end of the meal, after arguing what we had vs didn't have.... we are not paying for food we didn't order or receive. Just NO! One of my friends actually started feeling sick. The bill was $92.56. We gave her a $100 bill. Do you know the waitress had the nerve to be pissed? I was gonna give her exact change and be done but my friends are soft hearted. Sadly and grossly...a hair in my veggie combo ruined my chances of ever eating here again. I ordered a to-go lunch today, September 6th. I was so excited because the portions were a nice size. Unfortunately, in addition to the hair under my injera that lined the to-go box, the collards didn't taste fresh...more like frozen greens. If it hadn't been for the hair and feelings of extreme nausea, I would have rated at least a 3 or higher. I'm really disappointed, because Prima Injera is near work. The injera was fresh and tasty, and both the chickpea and potato carrot dishes were very tasty. The veggie sambusas were small yet packed with lots of flavor. I hate that it was spoiled by nasty kitchen and/or food handling practices. Oh well, I still have Embilta Cafe and Queen Sheba...Desta is good if you like lots of spice and garlic. I was deciding between this place and Dominicks in Norcross which had great reviews. Dominicks is closer to us than Prima (and had better yelp reviews!) but we had a coupon like Heather N. and decided to try it out since who doesn't like 25 dollars off their meal? The strip mall it's in is quite un-impressive. For somewhere so close to Decatur we thought it would be maybe close to some cool spots but it wasn't really. The drive to the Decatur square is only about 10 minutes away so it's decently close I guess. The food was okay. I would actually choose Olive Garden over this place - I think their bread and salad and dishes are better prepared in fact. Nobody in my group was too enthusiastic about their dish (we had the salmon, the chicken marsala, a chicken penne dish and a spaghetti bolognse dish). My chicken marsala didn't look like chicken marsala - it looked like chicken with gravy sauce. I heard the penne dish was very dry and the spaghetti dish wasn't too special. When it came to dessert time we all decided that we'd rather have Yogurt Tap froyo instead of the dessert here. Environment wise, it seems like it's trying to be a "date" restaurant. However, I felt the service was pretty bad. There was one waitress who bought us someone else's food before realizing she bought it to the wrong table. She also took forever to get us change when we paid in cash. Overall, I would NOT go here again. Even if you gave me a 25 dollar coupon. read more

Last night was my first and last time eating at "Club" Prima Injera. I walked in with a friend to dine-in (7 pm) and surprisingly saw the dining area quiet but in complete disarray. Perplexed, I asked the waitress was this the area to dine-in and was something like a party about to happen. She said there was a party coming but assured me that it wasn't until hours later and we could dine-in. After putting in our order, they began arranging the area for the party and testing the sound system. Apparently, the TV at the bar was included in "testing" because a lady (who didn't seem like she worked there) proceeded to turn the volume up as loud as she could then walked out the restaurant. Meanwhile, the surround system speakers were then faced in our direction and also turned on to test for the party (screeching included). Upon waiting a little to see if anyone would turn it down or notice that there were actually customers present who would like to keep their eardrums, I asked a waitress if it could be turned down a little or was the party starting? She shockingly told me, "it's just going to get louder and louder" and confirmed that the party wouldn't even start until an hour or more later. After getting a headache and noticing there were no significant changes nor was the food ready, we began to walk out. The waitress who took our order said she'd pack our food to go. I regret even agreeing because the small food portions aren't worth the price. And the food wasn't that good to make me change my mind in writing this review or ever go back again. I am a frequent visitor to Prima Italian; I am there 3 or 4 times a week because my office and my home are not too far away. They recently expanded their offerings to include an East African menu and I am so glad that they did. I have become accustomed to the East African feel of the place and the fact that you are supposed to eat your food with the bread(Injera) and not with knife and fork; although it is perfectly acceptable if you do. read more

The food was really good. The service was really good--- waitress was friendly and fast. The reason for 3 stars is that the owner left his apx 3 year old poorly behaved son at the bar for the waitress to take care of-- while she was waiting tables. He was loud, literally walked across the bar stools while screaming and announced several times that he had to "poop". Delicious Ethiopian food! They have all of the traditional options, plus a wonderful vegetarian plate. The injera is perfect and I like the seasoned salad that comes on the platters. The lentil dishes could be fresher and the restaurant itself could be a little cleaner, but everyone working there is incredibly friendly and makes it a warm, inviting place. Wonderful!! We just used them to cater a small dinner party. We got a great price, extensive menu and top notch service! On the pick up day, our food was ready on time, and she even made 2 extra dishes for us for free! There was MORE than enough food and every dish was delicious! The personalized service was great! We had only eaten in the restaurant once before, but they remembered how my husband liked his kitfo. She took me to her kitchen to personally show me how to properly warm the kitfo for serving. The day after our event, we got a follow up phone call to make sure we were satisfied. I can't recommend this place enough! We will definitely be back and use them again!! read more

Overall, I loved the experience of the restaurant, however, the last two times I've gone they got my order wrong. Unfortunately, it was the same waitress that took my order and both times she had an unpleasant attitude. The first time I ordered chicken awaze tibs, they brought me beef. They happily recooked it. The second time I ordered chicken awaze tibs and they brought me fish, which was not as good as the chicken. She was very nonchalant and acted as if she did not want to correct the order. In the spirit of trying something new, I decided to take the fish, but that was a bad decision. I ordered the veggie platter for delivery via UberEats from Prima Injera. $20 absolutely wasted and waves of nausea. This is the worst Ethiopian food I've ever eaten, and I've eaten a lot of Ethiopian food in a few different countries. When I opened the box there was a very distressing sour/spoiled odor. It came from the alicha - the cabbage, potato and carrot stew. I tasted it and had to spit it out. It was definitely spoiled. It was actually slimy. I'm certain it had been cooked at least a week ago and reheated. Then I tasted the gomen - collard greens. Truly nasty. There was no seasoning whatsoever - not even salt. And the collards were frozen and had that chewy texture that distinguishes frozen greens from fresh. I threw both in the trash before I started eating the rest, to avoid the possibility of food poisoning. I did eat the lentils, both the red spicy and the not spicy yellow. They were only okay - under seasoned certainly... and cold. The salad was absolutely soaked in dressing that tasted like Wishbone Italian from my childhood. The lettuce was wilted and the tomato wasn't even close to ripe - still green, white, and hard. It's been about 20 minutes since I ate the lentils and my stomach is feeling queasy. I will absolutely never order from Prima Injera again, nor visit the restaurant. If you're looking for delightfully delicious Ethiopian food that never disappoints, go to Desta Ethiopian Kitchen on Briarcliff Road at Clairmont. read more

This is basically an Ethiopian restaurant. I love Ethiopian food, so that is what I ordered here. My friends ordered from the "Italian" menu and oh dear it was not good at all. I have had better "Italian" food from a microwaved frozen box. I absolutely cannot imagine how anyone thinks this can pass as decent Italian food. The Ethiopian dish I had was quite good. Not the best Ethiopian in Atlanta but certainly tasty. So I would highly suggest NOT going here for Italian food at all. Stick with the Ethiopian fare. The staff is also Ethiopian and actually doesn't seem to know much about Italian food. Also, we wanted to to order a glass of wine off the menu and she said she would only sell it in a whole bottle even though the menu clearly stated a price for a glass and for a bottle. They also would not accept our restaurant.com certificate even though they are still listed on the website. Something was just very "off" about this place. You can find better Ethiopian nearby and DEFINITELY can find far better Italian from the freezer department at Kroger. If not for the pretty good Ethiopian food i had here, then it would for sure be 1 star. read more
