IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR PETS, DO NOT BRING THEM HERE. I took my outdoor longhaired cat into this establishment yesterday morning. Upon walking in.. the stench hit me right in the face. It was the worst animal filth smell I've ever encountered.. and I worked in an animal hospital. I know I should have turned right around but my kitty was with me and she was so matted. I figured I would give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm not going to go into detail about how strange this woman was because that is just a personal opinion. But let me tell you... she's a hot mess and she doesn't truly care for animals. ANYWAY - I dropped my cat off a little before 11am for a bath and a shave. At 5:45pm, I still had not heard from this lady. So I called and was told 25 more minutes. When I arrived half an hour later - She was still not finished. She was holding my cat on her back by the scruff and rather agressively shaving her with the clippers. I was feeling terrible but since I've not seen this process - I wasn't sure if what I was seeing was standard procedure or not. When she finished, she put my cat back in her kennel and handed her to me. I noticed immediately that her nose was bleeding. I mentioned it to the woman and she said that it was not bleeding that it was just an "abrasion." She said my cat must have pushed her face against the bars in her kennel. That is NOT her personality. She's a very laid back feline. I wanted to get the hell out of this disgusting hole of a place - So I paid her the un-earned $65 fee and drove home. The entire time I drove I was apologizing to my cat for being such a bad mama & taking her there. After I got home - I could see what a terrible job she did. Not only was the front of my cat's nose scraped and bleeding.. but one whole side of her whiskers were almost completely cut off. Cutting off cat's whiskers is NOT good for them. Her fur was also shaved so horribly - It looked like a 5 year old with a blindfold on did it. This place is disgusting and should be shut down. They are responsible for the death of our puppy! We brought our puppy, Yoshi, to Pretty Paws in Burien to be groomed. He was there for 5 hours when we received a call that we needed to come and rush him to the vet because of breathing problems. He ended up having to be euthanized due to a "strangulation incident" that resulted in a pulmonary edema, from which he could not recover. We are heartbroken, and sickened, by the lack of any sort of compassion from the owner. She has taken no responsibility, nothing. PLEASE think twice before taking your pets here! read more

I brought my two pugs in for a bath. When I picked them up, one of their nails was bloody. She apologized and said it must have gotten caught on something. When I got home I realized it had been torn out by the root and was just hanging there by a few threads. I am just now finding out in my neighborhood that there have been many other animals which were injured or traumatized while in their care. A couple had died. A dangerous place to bring your pets in my opinion. read more

The worst haircut ever! We called prior to going there and they wouldn't quote us a price until they saw my dog. We drove over there and the assistant told us its too late to help us. The owner then told the assistant that she was expecting us. Then, they quoted me a price $25 over what i usually pay for but I decided to give them a try since we were already there. The place just has a weird vibe. It also must be said that the place is very small, cramped and had a stench smell to it. When I saw my dog, I just wanted to cry.. The hair cut was the worst one I've ever had in almost three years and they even blamed my dog and the previous groomers "immature" haircut as the reason. They didnt dematt or comb her hair or clip her nails when I paid for it too. If you want quality work this is not the place to go. read more

The first time I brought him in I was seriously disappointed as I asked for Cocker Cut (back and belly shaved with the sides grown out a bit like a "skirt," traditional for Cocker Spaniels) and they shaved my dog and left weird chunks of hair on his head. It was sort of like an untrained idiot did it.The appointment also took near 8 hours, which when it normally takes a max of 4 was rediculous (I was about to just show up and tell them to give me my dog if he was done or not) I was sort of pissed but didn't look him over super close at the shop and didn't realize how messed up the hair cut was until I got home. On the following Monday I called and spoke with the owner, Kathy, who was really sorry and said there was some sort of short staffing and a newer groomer did him and there was general confusion and blah blah, she assured me the next cut would be done by her (she said she "specialized" in Cocker Cuts") and would be free. I came in 3 months later, which is normal for us as I bathe him myself in between grooming's, and while he was done in 4 hours and the cut was basically fine (not as good as I would expect if you "specialized" in it) and they tried to charge me while the Kathy was there. I turned to her and asked if she remembered our conversations. She said she didn't, looked on her computer and changed her story to "but its been too long and I would rather you pay 1/2 price" I said no that our agreement was free and this wasn't customer service one would expect after an already botched appointment. After a bit more of going back and forth she told me I could have it for free and never come back or half price and be welcome again. I said I wasn't coming back again either way and to have a good day. The experiences were poor, the shop is dingy, and the owner is nuts with a poor work ethic and crap staff. If zero stars were an option, Pretty Paws would get zilch from me. We left our dog with Kathy over Thanksgiving for dogsitting and grooming. SHE LOST OUR DOG. Not only did she lose our dog, but she didn't even call us to tell us she was missing. Had we known, we could have called in to check our home voicemail which had (thank god) messages from a kind person who found her lying on the porch of an abandoned house. Our dog was traumatized, starving, and injured. She needed medical attention. I was shocked that Kathy never even followed up to see if we had found Lola alive or dead. I am disgusted with this business and would highly recommend to anyone considering hiring Pretty Paws for dog care think again. read more

I've been going to Pretty Paws for more than a year now, and I take my Shitzhu and Golden Retriever regularly. I started going there because Cathy, the owner, said she would take my problem dog, a 15 year old Llasa Apso that had a long history of biting groomers. The dog had been kicked out of two groomers in West Seattle, but it's the kind of dog that has to be groomed. Cathy had the magic touch with my old dog and managed to cut his hair, even around his eyes and face, without getting bit or leaving my dog in a panic. I put my poor old dog to sleep in April when he became too sick for treatment, but I still take my other two dogs to Cathy for grooming and washes. I've found her to be extremely compassionate and she has always treated me and my bad dogs with respect. Also, her prices are awesome, and she can always fit my dogs into their schedule. read more

Not only could they not properly groom my 7 month old Australian shepherd... they made excuses why they left him to air dry... he then developed a rash from soap residue that was left on his hind legs and around his tail. But now he is also petrified when I try to bathe him myself. They also have had many dogs become injured while in their care. Updating because I can :) - I am still and have been taking my Yorkie Max here now for over 8 years years and yet to have issues others here have discussed. I am here quite a bit as I travel a lot in state and can't take my furchild with me. I see happy dogs when I'm here. She doesn't take problem animals who can't get along or don't have a good temperment. I've never seen her rough with an animal while grooming and she is very upfront at times, but my little guy would NOT get crazy excited to go the minute we turn down 1st into Burien if he didn't love it! Previous Review - Kathy is great at what she does and he always has a great time. He comes home happy and exhausted, but well groomed from nose to toenail. It's good to call a couple days in advance so you'll know if Cathy has space for boarding, but they do a great job, are good to the animals and have a great price point. :) read more

Horrible customer service! If you want to be talked to rudely and disrespectful by all means this is the place. The owner seems mentally off. Against bad reviews I Tried to give her a chance. I would for be this negative rating. I have taken my dogs here a few times and every time a rude comment was made and I always tipped good. I called and asked to make an appointment for my dog today and was told no she never liked my dog anyway after prior visits saying she was a good dog. Now all the sudden she doesn't like my dog. Been taking my dogs to Cathy for many years and don't have one reason to bi*ch about her. Cathy you can't please the world so to hell with all you no life's giving this lady a bad review. Go check Cathy out today if you haven't already. If you see this Cathy then you know who it is.... Randy the beagle, Lucky the chocolate lab and Ryler the shih Tzu who you took great care of for me over the years. I am a fan of this place and will always go back. Her prices to me are more than fair. Cathy is a straight up cool ass hard working person if you take time and get to know her some. As far as her place stinking it don't stand out to me when I walk in the door and she also does rescue work and has a few animals as well as a kennel if I stand correct. She has actually took care of a few of my animals over the years. As for it taking her all day sometimes to get my dogs groomed- so be it she always gets the job done and done right and I usually drop off around 8am early is her norm and pick up around her closing time which is no big deal to me because I just go get other things I need to do done for the day and she calls when they are ready. Kathy is very dishonest and very rude to deal with. I have two miniature schnauzers and I asked that their beards not be cut, she completely butchered one of my schnauzers, beard was cut awful. She told me she never cuts the schnauzers beards, which obviously was a blatant lie. Also don't expect a time frame as to when your animal will be done. I took my dogs in at 10am and they weren't done until close to 5pm. They can't give you a time frame because they don't know. I do not recommend going here, if I could I would give zero stars. You can find a place with much better customer service then this place. If you care about your pet do not take them to this place. read more

I have brought my cat here a few times and have asked for specific haircuts for my cat. Well this last time I specifically asked them not to cut the fur on her face or cut her whiskers. It seems from my experience with Pretty Paws that they think just because we are seeking their services they can do whatever they want with our pet. My cat got her worst haircut this last time, and although I wasn't there they probably didn't treat her very good since I requested them not to cut her fur in certain places. Their attitude about my requests came out in the results of their work, i.e., giving my cat a terrible haircut (which cost $65)!! (I had contemplated on doing a review but after the third experience I realized it just wasn't me being picky.) No intergrity in their work. Not a professional grooming! Our Yorkie did not get a professional grooming let alone a correct breed grooming. All the groomer did was wack off his facial hair, eyebrows and beard with no precision or finesse. It looked like it was done in a hurry so that they could get the dog out as soon as possible. All you need to know is that you shouldn't bring your animals here. If you'd like to know why, read below. I used to bring my dog here all the time to get her nails trimmed, but the service and quality has gone way down over the years. I remember being at the old location once and seeing one of the employees in the back ramming a dog into the wall of cages. I took my dog here about a year ago and it was ridiculously unprofessional. The woman had me hold my dog out in the front while she cut her nails. After she was finished I noticed that my dog's nails were badly bleeding from just about every toe. The woman RUDELY apologized, applied the powder to stop the bleeding, and then proceeded to charge me for the full price. She acted as though she was in a hurry and couldn't be bothered with any effort of customer service towards me OR my dog. It's also really dirty. They have parrots in the front room with bird crap all over the floor under the cages. With that being said, I will not be coming here anymore. I'd rather take my dog to the veterinary hospital two minutes from this place and pay the extra money for a nail trim than ever come back here. read more

Pretty Paws seemed convenient for nail trims because its close to my house, but accessibility is not a good enough reason for me to ever take my dogs here again. When I arrived with my two dogs for nail trims, there was urine all over the floor and no one seems concerned or in a hurry to clean it up. There are also birds and cats that hang out in the "reception area," which didn't help the bad smell of the place. The nail trims themselves were fine, but the cleanliness and staff were deal breakers. Pretty Paws only accepts cash for nail trims, didn't ask my dogs names and the woman who I assume is the owner was telling me all about how people steal her plants and that she has been robbed six times. Eek. I'd recommend finding a different groomer. read more

I called Pretty Paws to have my cat's long hair groomed, and the lady on the phone said it can take several hours, so bring her in early. I dropped off the cat around 9:15am...but by 3pm I still hadn't heard anything, so I called to see where they were at. They hadn't even started! Finally around 5:45pm, I started to worry if my cat would have to stay the night or not, for a GROOMING?!? After 6pm, almost 9 hours total, my cat was finally ready to come home! I couldn't believe it. I also thought this place was a bit small and very cluttered. Definitely not the most professional or well organized place I have visited. read more

Do not deal with Kathy. She is dishonest and disingenuous. We took out dogs there for years. Hmmmm, funny thing is that our Maltese, who always came home with red, irritated areas, had no redness after being groomed by our new groomer (x2). We just thought she had irritated skin. She is also part of a so called landscaping business. We will be taking her to court because the job was done so poorly and Kathy chose to be dishonest and not correct the problem. We are new to the neighborhood and want to start frequenting local businesses. I called in Friday and she was able to get my TWO dogs in Saturday morning. They did a great haircut on my Lhasa apso, and a bath and brush on our bigger English shepherd. They both came out with matching bandanas on (which I love and petsmart stopped doing) and they seemed very happy. You have to drag our English shepherd back at busy places like petsmart and he cries, but he just walked back on his own here and we didn't hear him crying when we left or came to get him. Seems like a much calmer atmosphere for the dogs and way less anxiety. We will come back here! read more

This cat needed help with matts - the staff was unprofessional - charged 65 dollars and when i came at the specified time - they were annoyed and I wasn't allowed to wait inside. I had to wait in my car for them to call me... or "take her home - partially done - and pay us in full". I waited delaying my son's 21st -bday party. My boyfriend use to take my dog here for nail clipping. My dog has had his nails clipped here on several occasions. I loved the little kerchief they placed around his neck, my dog didn't mind and I thought it was cute on him and it was always nice to see him come home wearing it and it would make me smile to see him all happy to see me and looking all cute with it on. Like I said, I have never taken my dog here but my dog has been groomed here. Recently, I read about Pretty Paws and the recent events that have lead to this shop being no longer in business. I have read some horrible comments and accusations being made and I see that many of those have only been posted after what had happened to cause this shop to close--I wasn't there, I don't know what may or may not happened. I do know this--the owner mentioned in an article I read on some website that she had been in business for a number of years and that she had mentioned how many animals she had groomed in that amount of time (I think it was something like 15000, don't quote me, I might be wrong on the number) and I thought about that for quite some time...I had ONE dog that I use to have to GROOM myself and he was a pretty mellow dog and I love him but let me tell you...grooming him was quite the chore, he fought me the entire time and when it was all said and done my dog looked like shit when I was done and if I could have afforded to at the time I would have ever thought of grooming him myself and it wasn't easy and my dog hated being groomed and the grooming wasn't easy and the end result was not exactly anything I'd brag about...then I thought about this lady, in business for all those years and having groomed that amount of animals and I realized how it was for me to groom just one dog...and I'm not down playing what may have happened with the recent event that closed this place down...because that, that was dreadful to read and I am not saying anything about that..I'm talking about the rest of those comments being made about this shop and this owners grooming and all he recent comments just now coming to light and being mentioned...and I can't believe the crap I'm hearing and the comments being made...yes, things happen and yes she may not have bent over backwards to please try and meet whatever expectations you may have had in the grooming and service she performed...yes, she may have clipped your cat a little imperfect---think about that--go clip your cat yourself, see how well you do, just saying. Seriously, I don't know how well she may or may not have groomed your animal...I don't know what she may have done to meet your grooming specifications...but I do know this...nobody goes into this kind of occupation without caring for animals...and nobody will ever convince me that whatever happened was done intentionally...I don't believe that and I don't have to know her to believe she didn't intend for this to happen...and I love my dog and I can't imagine how hard it would be to lose him and I just wanted to speak my mind and this is where I chose to state "my opinion"...I don't care to hear what anyone has to say about "my opinion" and don't bother to state yours based on what I wrote here....and to the owner, sad to see you're business closed and I hope you find a way to move past this and I'm thankful for your service for the times my dog needed grooming. To the other dog owner, this was not to downplay what you're going through, allegedly. Peace to all and closure to move past this most difficult of times and that is what I have to say...period. I have been taking my himalayan here for years for shavings. Never had an issue with her shavings and she seems fine every time I pick her up from an appointment. I've also taken my Cairn terrier for a cut and was amazed she received the correct breed cut; other places never know the right cut for a Cairn. I can't speak towards nail clipping as I just clip them myself at home. It's not that difficult to do people. The owner can be a bit abrupt but she's a nice person and kind to my pets. We will continue to bring our pets here for groomings. read more

Very rude treatment on phone call! I accidentally called this groomer rather than the one my dogs were at. I asked if they were ready and got an earful for using a competitor and the individual on the phone slammed the phone down. This was absolutely the MOST UNPROFESSIONAL grooming establishment I've ever been to. I took my dog in to have his nails trimmed, and had never had it done before. When I went in, the lady who worked there didn't say a word to me, she just grabbed clippers and started trimming his nails in the waiting area!!!! While I was holding him and he was squirming and scratching me (which caused me to bleed) Then, I look down and EVERY SINGLE PAW WAS BLEEDING ALL OVER ME!! All over the waiting room, and my friend who I brought with me. She never comforted me or told me anything!! She just grabbed ointment and continued as he bled all over the lobby and me!!! I was horified. There was blood everywhere! On the counter and pet toys for sale. This was traumatic and unsanitary. I was disgusted. I left Pretty Paws crying and freaking out. OMG, the people at Pretty Paws are fantastic! I have two Wirehaired Doxies that they have so excellently groomed. They pay attention to the requests and needs from the customer, and really take care of your dog with compassion and tender careful grooming. They love all critters, and will take on the challenge dogs that other groomers can't make the quick $ off of. I strongly recommend Pretty paws and how wonderfully they keep my animal safe and loved. I work for Paws in the Park in Normandy Park as a dog bather. I've been working there for about 7 months and can't count how many dogs have come in here after having a bad experience at Pretty Paws. the dogs who come here from Pretty Paws are always afraid of the blow dryer, afraid of the hydro surge i use to bathe them, and afraid of me. a normal amount of fear is expected because the blow dryer can be scary.. but when a dog is shaking so severely that I'm afraid to finish, that's something else. I do my best to soothe them while I go through my process but still, i can't imagine what these animals go through to be THAT scared. I decided to go in for myself one day to see what was going on with this place because i know that sometimes reviews on Yelp can be misleading. the place reeked of urine and the owner couldn't give a crap about customer service, she was so rude. it was cluttered and disgusting. I wouldn't take my dog in there to browse let alone get his nails clipped. I hope this review doesn't get filtered so i can say to anyone who looks this place up to GO SOME WHERE ELSE, ANYWHERE ELSE, especially if you have cats, most places try to get cats in and out as fast as possible and it's required that two groomers work on one cat, one to hold them/scruff them and the other shaves them, it's also not good to hold a cat by it's scruff alone, it chokes them and cuts off the air supply, any groomer who does that has no idea what they're doing. i'm not advertising for my shop, just take your animal anywhere but here. i don't know how anyone who genuinely loves animals could work here. read more

I brought Dexter and Sandy to Pretty Paws strictly for the weekend kenneling that the Owner (Kathy) provides at her home. It was cheap!! $26 for two dogs, that's the total cost...not each. Wow. Kathy did seem a little off her rocker. She also heckled us about doing some sort of service for the dogs. At first, she mentioned giving them a bath over the phone and I told her that wasn't necessary as I wash them myself and they'd just gotten one about two in a half weeks ago. Then when we brought them in for her to meet them, she insisted they stay all day and she could clip their nails. I finally had to explain to her that they are well groomed by my mother and she finally gave up. The place is really little and cramped. Also, I did look them up before bringing in our dogs and saw some bad reviews...still took a shot. We'll probably not go back. They're sort of weird, hard to describe but if you go in you'll know what I'm talking about right away. It is cheap kenneling though!! read more

I love this place. My dog loves this place. We've taken Indiana here quite a few times over the years and it's always one of the best grooming jobs he's ever had. He's a gigantic fluffy pom who requires a lot of attention. Most recently we had a severe issue with fleas (hubs bought the knock off $15 stuff when I told him to buy advantage) I had taken him twice to another Groomer closer to my house for flea baths and it didn't even make a dent. I finally took him to pretty paws said 'i don't want a flea on him' when I picked up Indiana I had a beautiful, happy, flea free dog. He didn't want to leave! I should have taken him there the first time because I've always been extremely happy with the services. Indiana also goes in there willingly and excitedly without a fight like at other places. I highly recommend taking your loved little four legged friend here. My only problem is they are not close to my house! read more

I love this place, my dogs and kids love this place. They work very hard 7 days a week. Anyone might get a little "abrupt". Especially if you are cleaning up someone elses mess!! The place is clean, ordinary smells. Of course if a dog has an accident there is an odor, but they quickly clean and disinfect. I trust them. We have been going here for years. read more

These people SHOULD NOT BE IN THE BUSINESS OF CARING FOR ANIMALS! I used them for doggy daycare for my very fragile, very old, and BLIND Yorkie. A friend of mine, who picked her up daily for me, missed closing time a few times (despite all my efforts with her to correct the problem). The last time this happened I got a voicemail from Pretty Paws at work stating they were closing the shop and leaving my dog there. I could pick her up the next day when they opened if I wanted to. I was beside myself with grief and was frantic. She was a very fragile little dog who might not survive being left there overnight due to the stress she would suffer from such an experience. As they left no forwarding number for me I called the store and left messages pleading to have my dog back, with no response. Luckily after searching for 4 hours for any phone number found under the owner's name, I was able to speak with the owner's husband. He told me how inconvenient it would be to meet me at the store and then DEMANDED I pay in full for every hour she had been there! When we arrived and opened the doors my dog was very stressed, crying loudly, not knowing what on earth was happening to her! It was horrible!!! These people DO NOT PUT ANIMALS FIRST and should not be in the business of caring for animals!!! BE WARNED! read more

Pretty Paws is horrible. I would never in my life have my Himalayan cat there again or any other animal. I think they were in a hurry. When I got back to pick up Bear Bear she was scared in her cage and she was still matted way matted. They had screaming birds there. I was crying out that door. Never again.
