I used to trust Pretty Nails (MLK, Lansing), but on July 24, I was severely burned during an eyebrow/lip wax. I was the first client of the day, and the wax had clearly been overheating -- it left my face raw and painful. I woke up the next day with burns, scarring, and extreme pain, and had to go to urgent care while out of town. When I went back to let them know, the tech pretended not to speak English and refused to engage. I've now reported them to LARA and am filing a small claims case to cover my treatment. Waited 30+ minutes and going back 2 days later because it looks like I have a week + of grow out already, part of the acrylic doesn't even cover my natural nail on the side. I showed the tech a picture of what I want (pink tips with a simple heart for Valentine's Day) she gave me white tips and I had to ask her twice to clean up the lines on the heart because they were streaky and uneven. She stopped in the middle of doing my nails to go do someone's lashes and didn't wash her hands after warddropped the brush then kept going without even cleaning it. read more

Nail salons can be really intimidating, especially if you're younger many places rush and don't take their time because some younger people don't know how to tip (know how to tip, don't get your nails done if you can't). This was my first time going to pretty nails. I'm a college student balling on a budget and this place was great. The nails were NOT chunky, my nail tech was very nice and not rude or dismissive she was very accommodating. I would definitely go back. A full set of acrylics is priced at $25 not including gel which I got which racked it up to $40 however I was given a coupon afterwards for 20% off my next time! If you're looking for budget nails that look like you paid $70 go here!! The wait time was not too long and it's first come first serve walk ins, it was actually relaxing, usually I'm stressed about getting my nails done (shaping) or someone over charging me because I'm younger and that was not the case here!! So I usually don't go here but the other salon was full, there was a huge language barrier the nail tech didn't understand anything I was saying, told her I needed a pink and white powder fill and she preceded to give me a clear fill and when I told her for the third time she said, oh no I will paint it with pink so it doesn't look like that then covered it with pink and white polish. Charged me for a cut down which I usually am never charged for that plus didn't shape it the shape I had/wanted and she was on her iPad half the time. I will never come back here:( very disappointed with how my nails looked. read more

Terrible service and rude women working. They have dip powders and I clearly asked were the colors the same in the container as they are in the nails because more places have a sample out because the color changes slightly after applied. This girl told me the color is exactly the same. I picked light pink and now have dark pink nails because she didn't know what she was talking about. I the let her know why this is upsetting to me as a paying customer and the wench laughed literally busted out laughing now the whole time she acted like she understood none of my English yet found this hilarious. I almost cursed her out but didn't know if she really would understand it how I needed her to. Trash service from a trash person I'm really upset with that treatment! This place sucks. Very unorganized staff. Money hungry. Expect to need a fill once every week because they don't do a good job. It's a service - pay to have it done both professionally and nicely - which is the opposite of "Pretty" Nails. You got to be kidding me that the sales lady made me wait in her lobby for an hour and a half - JUST to fix one freaking nails that popped off in less than five days - and proceeded to say I needed a fill which would cost me $18; on top of the $52 I paid not even less than a week ago. I have NEVER gone off on a nail tech before. 1. I don't care if you don't speak English that is your job to understand what I'm saying. 2. When I tell you something burns or it hurts don't continue. 3. When I'm going though my phone do not pull my arm in ways where it's comfortable for you. That is also your job to deal with people moving. 4.I told your dumb ass SIX times that's not the color I wanted and you continued to ignore me. 5. I asked for a design and told/ showed you how I wanted it to be done. 6. You're dumb ass started to do your own design after I tried getting your attention to ask you what you were doing, I had to raise my voice at you to get you look at me and tell you, you weren't doing the correct design. 7. You didn't even know how to do the design and I had to get a whole different nail tech to do and show you how to do it. (Which I should have got discounted for) 8. I told you, you weren't getting a tip because you did a really terrible job, and ignored me. If you're going to work with people.. communicating is fucking key. If you are a teenager... Don't go here. Save your money. They hate teenagers. Anytime I go there she rushes when doing my nails and the shape is horrible. She slaps on a load of acrylic and it looks so unnatural. The paint job... seriously my left hand can do better. I also tried to show her a picture and tell her how I wanted it and she was like "yeah yeah" then walked away. Obviously when she did my nails they were NOT how I wanted them.
