My wife and I stopped by PGA 3 times over the last year, and based on our experiences I am absolutely shocked that this place gets the high ratings that it does. If I were to rate this place solely on the food, I would probably dish out 3.5 - 4 stars. Unfortunately, the customer service here is horrendous - calling this place a clown show would be an insult to circuses. Of the 3 times we visited, our orders have been completely botched twice (the first time we believe we received someone else's order and the second time the kitchen appears to have just made a totally incorrect set of burgers). The only time we visited where we had a smooth experience was in the morning right when they opened, so I'm not really weighing this heavily as a success story. During the first instance mentioned above, there were a TON of other customers complaining about receiving incorrect orders and I believe it had something to do with their POS system if I had to take a wild guess. During the second occurrence the staff were real sassy and apprehensive about fixing up their goof up. What a cherry on top for such a wonderful experience... Here is some "pretty good advice" for those of you who still want to check this place out: 1. I wouldn't tip until you receive your food. From my experience, there is a good chance that the service you receive won't warrant a tip. 2. If you are taking your order to go, I would highly suggest you check your food before you leave the parking lot. You might end up opening up your bag at home and finding out you received a completely wrong order. 3. Don't come here unless you have extra time to kill. During our first visit, we didn't have enough time to wait for them to correct our meal since the line was really long and there was a lot of other meals in process, so we ended up not having lunch that day (thanks, PGA..). read more

Typically I'm not one for vegan burgers, or any vegan meat substitute products to be honest, with many of the ones I've had in the past not only failing to taste like real meat but not tasting good in general. The same can not be said about Pretty Good Advice. While their substitute meat may not taste exactly like the real deal it's still very tasty, and their fries may be the very best I've ever had at a restaurant. The only things holding Pretty Good Advice back from a full five-star review are: 1) Lack of indoor seating as the weather in the area can still practically sweltering during the late summer months. 2) limited drink menu, while the lemonade is very good there not much in the way of drink variety Overall however, Pretty Good Advice is not only the best vegan burger place I've been by far, but an amazing restaurant with overall, with friendly staff, great food, and fries to die for. read more

Oh wow! That was amazing! I picked up dinner for the family on the way home from work. I spent more than I thought I would but it worth every single penny. I plated the food when I got home so please forgive the presentation in the pictures. I ordered the fennel soup, the charcuterie plate, the herb salad, chicken terrine, shrimp salad, mushroom bruschetta, the sweet n' sour brussel sprouts, griddled Meyer lemon loaf, and a torte with pine nuts. Yes, I live with teenage boys! We loved it all! Each of us had a different favorite and we're all huge fans of all the micro greens. The only dish we had a little problem with is the chicken terrine. We loved the flavor, especially with the pickled kumquats, but weren't used to the texture. Not a lot of jello in our house! The staff is great. What a cute, wonderful find! We were looking for brunch places and found this nice, vegetarian health conscious and sustainable little spot. All the food was light and tasty, with great drink prices. So good! We came in right before closing and they were super gracious about it. We got carrot soup which was amazing and the bibimbop bowl was also super flavorful. Everything was very fresh tasting and super reasonable. Staff was very friendly. They even gave us an extra soup on the house--which I'm happy about because I could have eaten 10. It was that good. Pretty Good Place. It's mostly vegi-vegan comfort food with tons of seasonal options. Everything we ordered was legit and was prepared quickly. I will make a point to order the fried plantain each and every time I return, I think you can pair that with any food or drink on earth and it will groove. My only critique is I think they could go totally vegan without sacrificing any flavor or quality. Other than that I'd go back, next time on a bike and try the outdoor seating area that's tucked in the back. It's cool/essential they put sustainability at the core of their mission. Great restaurant with fresh ingredients and quality flavor. Cat & Cloud Coffee is another star just on its own. An immaculately clean restaurant with plenty of seating indoors and out, you'll be greeted by the pastry case as you enter witch thankfully has freshly baked treats that aren't the same selection you see tricked into almost every other cafe in Santa Cruz county. You'll be even more impressed when you taste them as they are expertly crafted and do not disappoint in the flavor department. The next thing you'll notice is the succint menu that is blown up on the wall. Started to have a little bit of the hipster food truck vibe on first glance with the higher prices and small portions but that is only skin deep. There's surprising variety available and they're not just remixing the same handful of ingredients, especially with the limited offerings (saw a pic of a duck breakfast sandwich). We've sampled a majority of the menu and everything just tastes awesome. It's not cheap but I'm willing to throw down some extra with the knowledge that the food will rock every time (I should qualify that with that the restaurant is sill young but seeing the owner in there managing the kitchen I'm pretty confident that this place will continue to be a winner). The location suffers from the morning elementary school gridlock but that seems to clear up around 8:30am in school days. read more

My daughter wanted an adult grilled cheese, worrying the child's would be too small. We ordered it as such. It was the smallest sandwich we, and the other people waiting to pick up their food at the window, had ever seen. Even the person who ordered it for us at the counter agreed, but the kitchen said the only difference was the cheese, and therefore it was correct. The entire sandwich was smaller than the palm of my 14 year old's hand. They brought it back and said, sorry it was correct. It looked like the end of a loaf, you know, the tiny pieces. It was rude to not make her a bigger one. REALLY disappointed when you pay $25 for 2 sandwiches and a coffee, you'd think they would have been nicer. The food all tasted good. And the outside seating was nice, but one person admitted it was small, and the kitchen not caring made it an upsetting experience. First time here and my hubby was in love with their burger! He got the pretty good cheeseburger and I got the avocado one. They overloaded it with avocado which is great (for some but it made me gag a bit because too much) but the fries were amazing with the garlic aioli. Had the bibimbap bowl w bean patty-pretty good but you gotta like Kimchi. Also had the polenta griddle cake w house made whipped cream, stone fruit and mulberries-fantastic! Super cute place, love the open space and unique options on the menu! I thought that it was going to be a burger place with vegan (impossible meat) options but turns out everything at the shop is made with the same vegetarian bean patty which is good to know as a customer. The fries were 5/5 super Hardy potatoey and delicious and my vegan burger perfectly scratched my itch. I was too full after my meal but I Can't wait to come back to try the vegan soft serve! The fries amount were measly, or not enough (especially for $5). Now onto the $7 burger. It's wonderful that this place is vegan and has a great local vibe, but if I'm being perfectly honest the cheeseburger which I ordered for around $7 (so you're paying $12 plus tip, call it another $2 - so $14 in total) for a burger that is the equivalent of a high school baseball game $3 Costco-style burger... but with a black bean or vegan patty: Same white bread bun, same lack of sauce distributed unevenly, same two pre cut pickles from the freezer, same lack of fresh onions/tomatoes/lettuce/etc., and (vegan) American cheese Kraft-style squares. Both made you feel ripped off, but the fries were probably the biggest ripoff because they didn't even fill them to the brim of the smaller-than-desirable to go cup. We have easily become regulars here. Everything is vegetarian or can be made vegan and the prices are very doable. The coconut caramel coffee is really good and so are the lemonades. My favorite breakfast sandwich is the good morning deluxe, for lunch I like the pretty good cheeseburger. The coconut yogurt is super yummy too, sometimes I have to order that too for later. I ordered Mike's Good Morning Sandwich (crispy potato, fried local egg, sweet pepper jam, PG aioli, avocado, and pepper jack cheese on a ciabatta type bread) ($7), the strawberry kale salad (quinoa, shaved fennel, lemon dressing) ($6), and sweet potato fries ($5). I was hungry. The sandwich was unbelievable. The bread was perfect. Everything was so flavorful and delicious. I wouldn't think to put potatoes in that breakfast sandwich but it just worked. The salad and the sweet potato fries were also amazing. My friend ordered the BBQ Pulled Jackfruit sandwich and also loved it. Can you tell that I like this place? The whole experience was great. They have a window outside you can walk up to to order and pay, then they call your name when the food is ready. There were benches out front where you can wait for your food and even sit and eat but they also have an adorable back patio with tables where you can sit and enjoy your yummy food. I will 100% be back here to try the "cheeseburger" (pea patty) and everything else on that menu. Such good quality food at an insanely affordable price. I'd say pretty bad advice unless you like to clog your arteries. The healthiest part of my sandwich was the Avocado, but I could barely taste it over the fried everything else. Mikes Deluxe had zero flavor and was absolutely uninteresting. But if you've got a thing for Mayonaise then I can see how you might like it.
