Beef Kofta Burger Hippie Pita ($15). Mango Lassi ($6). (August, 2026).
Laura S.

Ibiza. Santa Cruz, CA. August, 2026. We visited this California-Mediterranean cafe in early August, 2026, with a large party -- 9 adults, a 2-year-old toddler, and an infant. It's a fast casual restaurant that offers pita sandwiches, salads, falafel, shawarma, espresso, matcha, chai, juices, and vegan soft serve ice cream. This was my first visit to this restaurant; my adult daughter and SIL had been there previously and recommended it. I'm having trouble coming up with an overall rating because we had an uneven experience. FOOD. I will comment only on the entrees that I have direct information on. My husband and I tend to split our entrees and we each decided to order "Hippie Pitas", that featured hummus, tahini sauce, shatta (hot chili sauce), kale, yams, crispy chickpeas, pickled shallots, seeds, and carrot ginger vinaigrette. I ordered a vegetarian option, the falafel hippie pita ($13) while my husband ordered the beef kofta burger hippie pita ($15). I loved the falafel pita (rating: 5/5), given its mix of complex flavors and fresh ingredients. I particularly liked the fresh falafel and the crispy chickpeas. Unfortunately, my husband had a very different experience with the beef kofta one. The pita was served with 3 small kofta burgers. Upon biting into the first, he found a burger that was raw/red in the middle. (Both of us prefer well-done meat). He returned it, asking for it to be cooked more. When it was returned, the top patty was now medium-well, still pinker than his preference but somewhat edible. However, the two other patties didn't appear to have been cooked more and were still red in the middle. We ended up NOT splitting out entrees because I just can't eat undercooked meat; he was also unhappy with his choice. (Rating: 0/5). We also ordered a mango lassi ($6), which was tasty but a bit small. (Rating: 4/5). We also shared an order of Disco fries ($14) with the table. This featured spiced fries, with falafel, harissa ketchup, golden amba, tahini, pickled onions, pepperoncini, and herbs. I'd give this entree a rating of 3/5. It was acceptable, but I wasn't a big fan of the combination of ingredients, and would've preferred to have the harissa ketchup on the side rather than already on the fries (because it made them soggy). SERVICE. (1/5). You order at a counter, and then the food is delivered to your table. The cashier who took our order, and later delivered the plates was friendly enough and efficient. However, our sense was that they were under-staffed. As mentioned, the same girl took our order and delivered it. And, we only saw one cook in the open kitchen area, resulting in the plates of food being delivered at different times to our table. Some were nearly finished with their sandwiches/salads while others were just beginning. We appreciated that the kid's meal was delivered first to the toddler. We were very disappointed that my husband's beef kofta pita STILL came back undercooked even after having sent it back -- and no one checked to see if he was happy after it was returned. It also wasn't clear whether we were expected to bus our own table. The restaurant was spacious, open, and clean, and pitchers and glasses of water were available at the counter. They had a nice selection of drinks and vegan ice cream. We might eat here again, but would only order vegetarian options.

4/5: I ordered the Tahini soft serve with EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) and salt. It tasted like it had way too much salt in the soft serve itself, plus it had more salt sprinkled on top. Next time, I will get it with EVOO but not the salt. 4/5: Lamb pitaap. Very high quality pita. Lamb is ok.

Great food and flavorful!!! I would recommend this to all my friends. Also get the ice cream - it's so good and different.

I walked into Ibiza and immediately noticed how spacious, clean, and inviting the atmosphere was--definitely the kind of place you can settle into for a bit. I asked about a strawberry latte, and the person helping me didn't just answer--they showed up with a smile and genuinely took the time to walk me through the drink and menu. The energy? Warm, welcoming, and just really good vibes all around. What really stood out though... I had an issue with my card (because life loves a little drama), and instead of making me feel awkward or like I was holding things up, they jumped straight into problem-solving mode--with patience, determination, and still that same positive attitude. That kind of customer service is rare, and it did not go unnoticed. They also have a great variety of drinks and sweets, plus outdoor seating--which makes it perfect whether you're meeting up with friends, studying, or getting some work done. Overall, amazing experience. Great people, great energy, and a spot I'd absolutely come back to.

Ok this place has GREAT falafel. Came here for lunch a few weeks ago and split the disco fries with falafel and they were seriously the best combo of Mediterranean sauces, pickled onions and Jalapeño, hot fries and fresh falafel. If you come here, PLEASE get them!! With that said, I find it hard to come here. They close pretty early, so even though I would love to come back for dinner it isn't really possible, and I don't work close by enough to come during lunch. A shame, because if they were open later I would definitely come more often! The space was really big and open, but I liked the comfy bench seats and lighting. Service was friendly and efficient!

GUYS, I go here on weekend sometime, and it's surprisingly not very busy at all! maybe that's a trend with downtown these days however THIS FOOD!!!!! this FOOOOOD!! is incredible. I was so surprise first time I got the lamb pita, the vegetables are like perfectly balanced sweetness and sourness. the sauces accompany and are not overpowering. the meat perfectly prepared. a serving of chips is quite large! So. you order at the front counter and get a number. The host will make any prepped drink and bring to you, as well as your food. You get your own napkin, cutlery and water from different places around the restaurant My only confusion is what do i do with my plate when i done eating (ō_ō) um i ask everytime, still don't kno. also i want more side sauce. i love spicy. i love it this place tho! so much! get the spritz

I was shopping in the area and decided to pop in for a meal. I was pleasantly surprised with how delicious the food was. I got parking right in front on a Saturday but the place inside is very spacious and open. You order at the counter and get a number for dine in service. I ordered the lamb plate and strawberry lemonade, non-sparkling. The lemonade was fantastic, and the lamb plate blew me away. The presentation alone was extremely appealing in art fully crafted. The lamb was so tender and flavorful, along with the hummus, asparagus and pickled cabbage. I ate every last thing on the plate, I can only imagine what everything else taste like, but this blew my expectations away in an unsuspecting café. I definitely recommend coming back. Staff was very friendly as well.

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and finally did for lunch, i had ordered in advance at 12:17 and it said it would be ready by 12:40, i got there around 12:38 and waited, i was acknowledge maybe 10mins after and when i asked about my order there was many in front of me. I did not receive my food until 1pm. As well i did notice that individual who barely got there and had sat down had gotten there order before I. As well i did not like how the cook ask me if i was looking for something when I was waiting to ask about my order. The food was good, although my fries were very little amounts for paying 5 dollars.

Chicken Shawarma Hippie Pita

Came here on a Saturday evening based on the high reviews. There were some people dining and it wasn't too busy, but I could see how it would busier in the morning and early afternoon. Ordered the chicken shawarma hippie pita and it was amazing and loaded with filling. Took maybe 10 minutes to prepare, but it was incredibly fresh and they have an open kitchen design so it was made to order. One of the chefs was grilling the chicken and another person was preparing the orders. The flavor was so good and the pita was basically a super soft texture with a delicate bite and chew. I could eat one of these pitas every day and I definitely want to try more of their menu.

Delicious wraps, drinks, and salads. Perfect lunch time spot. My go to is the chicken wrap. The bread they use for the wrap is pillowy and fresh. Perfectly sauced too. I always go with someone who orders the hippie salad and they love it. I've had the salad too but the wrap always wins for me. I haven't tried their tahini soft serve or the pita chip nachos but they are definitely on my list. My only wish was that it was a wee bit more affordable.. I can't justify going here super often but I would if I could. Service is always fast and the restaurant appears to be super clean. They have tasty cocktails too! Solid all around lunch place.

Chicken Shawarma Plate

It's been a little while since I've been to Ibiza, and I don't know why! It's so delicious, fresh, and flavorful. Plenty of seating, friendly staff, and just a charming atmosphere for lunch or early dinner. Our chai lattes with oat milk were the perfect temperature and flavor. I appreciate how they ask you if you want it sweet or not, and how sweet you want it. The combination of items on the shawarma plate felt like a bounty. The falafel was spot on, and the sauces on the disco fries + pickled onions brought it all together. I'm already craving it the next day and will be back SOON.

We were in the area and after looking at Yelp reviews decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised to find so many vegan options, in fact they have a separate menu. It is quite big of a space, plenty if tables, great food options, and quick service. We got the falafel hippie salad - great portion, the dressing was great. We also got the Muhamara with a side of vegan flatbread. Evening was very tasty and filling. definitely recommend it and hoping to go back sometime to try other options including vegan desserts.

The baba ghanouj was smokey and delicious, the meats were super flavorful and spiced, the sauces delicious, all well portioned for all our guests. I'd definitely stop by their restaurant when I'm back in the area, and anyone catering a large event should consider them!

I should have turned around the moment I walked in and witnessed the cashier trying to explain to…read morean upset customer that milk is, in fact, vegan. That should have been my warning. Apparently the kitchen has a strict policy against chopping vegetables. The wrap was stuffed with enormous, flavorless chunks that looked like someone had given up halfway through preparing a salad. The Mediterranean bowl was somehow even less appetizing. It looked like a mother bird had regurgitated lunch directly into a takeout container. I've seen more appealing things on the sidewalk. And then there were the dolmas which somehow managed to taste both sweet and rotten at the same time. One star. Only because Yelp won't let me invoice them for the meal I'll need to eat to forget this one. UPDATE: The owner's response is almost as entertaining as the meal was disappointing. Apparently, the fact that I took a few bites before deciding the food was terrible is evidence that it couldn't have been that bad. I'm not sure how else one is supposed to evaluate food, but perhaps the expectation is that customers form their opinions without tasting it. For the record, I did not finish the meal, and the photo makes that fairly obvious. My complaint was about the absurd proportions of the ingredients, not the packaging. I have no objection to reducing plastic waste, although I admire the attempt to turn a review about terrible food into a referendum on ocean conservation. Rather than address the actual complaints about the food, the owner has chosen to argue with the customer about whether he was sufficiently disappointed

Yes, they have gas and a car wash, but that is just the beginning. Inside, there is a gourmet kitchen serving up locally harvested seafood and Harris Ranch meats. The burger here is hands down one of the best in the county. It is technically fast food, but nothing like what you would expect from that term. AJ's goes way beyond typical gas station fare. You will find organic produce and treats from around the world like English biscuits, real maple syrup, and a Southeast Asian spice rack. They also offer an impressive selection of local wines, baked goods, ice creams, and coffees. Owner Akhtar Javed, originally from Pakistan, opened the market in 1987 after falling in love with Santa Cruz. He became a local legend after the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake when he let customers take what they needed and pay later during the power outage. AJ's Market is a true gem and worth the stop whether you need gas or not. P.S. AJ also carries dried cuttlefish so you don't have to travel to San Jose or find a Ranch 99. P.P.S. In addition to the coffee station, they also had a full cooler of Marianne's Ice Cream!
