Oh. My. Goodness. Just found my new favorite lunch/burger place in Capitola-Soquel area! Best burger I've had in a while and it was meatless. I like eating vegetarian if I have the option and have wanted to try this place out for a while. I love that they have a completely vegetarian, sustainable menu. The menu is simple (which I love). Their main focus is breakfast sandwiches, meatless burgers, salads and homemade soft serve. All of which is vegan or vegetarian. Right now they are only open for takeout because of covid. I ordered the California ranch burger and fries. It came to about $15 with tax and tip. The burger was so so good. The avocado was fresh and I loved the crispy ranch onions they put in there. Everything complimented each other perfectly. I honestly couldn't even tell the patty was vegan. I've had many vegan patties in my life and they all have a weird smoky artificial taste which I hate. This patty did not have that and it was amazing. Hands down the best vegetarian burger I've ever tasted (and I've had a lot). It comes close to some of the best actual burgers I've had as well. The fries are incredible and the aioli they serve with them is delicious. Also love the cute packaging everything comes in! I'm so excited to come back here and try more items. We ordered two "burgers" and got served two disgusting brown patties made out of God knows what. We threw the entire bag away after two bites. There chicken sandwich says "CAN be made vegan" wtf?? We can't be the only couple tricked into thinking this was a regular burger spot. No thanks, we will go somewhere else for our protein-rich, bioavailable nutrient-dense REAL burgers. The food quality has definitely declined since they had their first year in Soquel. You will get a greasy, small veg sandwich or egg sandwich that sounds wonderful on the menu but all those delicious sounding ingredients will be minimal and most of what you eat will be a cheap bun. My stomach hurt all day after the fake chicken sandwich. The staff is young and very spaced out. I waited quite awhile while the cashier who called my order out as ready got into a long gossip session with one of her friends who lurked by the order line. After I got my food, I saw her ignore other customers as she continued to spend her time at work talking with the visiting friend. Finally tried this jewel of a cafe this morning. We had breakfast sandwiches and they were wonderful. Fresh, toasted, tasty roll with crispy potato, egg and the right amount of aioli sauce. Where to start! This is pretty much my favorite place right now. I have only had the breakfast sandwiches. I brought a group here for breakfast about a month ago and it was the best time. Everyone loved all their food, and the staff let us push tables together so we could play a game. A very casual and chill environment, with fresh delicious decent priced food. Yes please!! I came in alone later and the man behind the magic suggested the Tinos Time. Wow, kimchi on a breakfast sandwich was an unexpected and delightful addition to an already amazing sandwich. You want some pretty good advice? Well then head on over to Pretty Good Advice if you're near the greater Santa Cruz area. I almost didn't follow that advice because I was bitching to my wife that it was gonna take us 30 mins to get here despite being only 6 miles from the hotel. I'm glad the high prices of most other veg friendly places in the area encouraged me to take that "long" drive to PGA. Right now it's only window order and/or pickup service. They do have plenty of communal type seating in the outdoor patio in the front which is nice Service was lacking. They placed a Vegan sign next to the cheeseburger. I was pretty sure that was listed as non-vegan on their online menu but my wife was unaware and inquired about it anyways. Register girl was like, "no we don't have Vegan cheese" in a condescending tone. Okay we get that but maybe fix your sign, k? Once we got our food, things changed for the better. We got a burger with their housemade PGA patty. Not sure what's in it but it's a black bean style patty that was actually solid. A little thin for my appetite and the cost but all the sauces, avocado and all that came together to make a tasty burger sammich. It's a nice change of pace from the Beyond/Impossible train. Even more surprising was Tom's Bright Eyes Surprise. Guess the name should've clued me in that this sando will catch you off guard. It was a crispy hash brown patty (think TJ's) smothered in avocado, mushrooms, jalapenos, and their own Vegan smokey sauce on a ciabatta bun. This was really good with a nice kick from the jalapeno that I wasn't expecting. I'm not even sure what I was expecting but this hit the spot! We also got some fries for $5. It's a decent amount for the price I guess. $4 would be more reasonable. Definitely looks and tastes like it was cut and fried fresh. Some of the better fries around if you like yours crispy crunchy like I do. On its face, the value seems good. However, upon further inspection, they still hit you with the Vegan tax even though this is a thinly veiled vegetarian joint with great branding. The non-vegan cheeseburger is $6. By contrast, the Vegan burger without cheese that uses the same PGA patty is $8. Sure you get avocado but no cheese and it's $2 more. What's up with that? I wanna give them 5 stars but can't when that Vegan tax is rammed down your throat. Makes the food a bit less palatable in my opinion. read more

found this place while on a brief trip visiting santa cruz. ordered the madi's moody morning sandwich, no tomato, added hash brown patty. was fire, amazing blend of breakfast sandwich flavors in my mouth. wasn't sure about the tofu scramble being in there at first but it worked wonders with the freshness of the arugula. also ordered a blood orange lemonade, which really just tasted like regular lemonade, but quenched my thrist regardless. i appreciate the amount of vegan options and substitutes as a vegan myself. this place is a great grab and go spot to nurture your sandwich cravings as half the menu consists of that. as for the ambience the walls looked like a un-colored coloring book, i wish i could've colored it in with crayons. the workers on the other hand were polite and fast, which is much appreciated. i don't really understand the name of this restaurant though. does anyone have any back story? it reminds of this one the growlers' song "good advice" though. anyhow i give this place 4 stars as i immensely crave this sandwich everyday since the day i gobbled it down. would recommend. read more

I love when small towns have such hidden gems! Pretty Good Advice really is a bit hidden and easy to miss when you drive by. It's a pretty house with white walls and a brick roof, and it has a little parking lot attached. Place your order and then find a table. There's plenty of seating inside and outdoors. The tables outside are community tables and a good way to say hi to some of the locals! The menu isn't very long and it's fully vegetarian. My husband and I managed to share three burgers. The burgers are on the smaller side but the reasonable prices means you can order more than one. We had a Vegan Burger, El Diablo and Patty Melt. All of them come with the same delicious black bean and quinoa patty. The bun for the vegan burger and spicy burger is soft and lightly toasted. The Vegan burger with avocado and cucumbers was good but a bit messy to eat. The Patty Melt was stuffed with mushrooms and caramelized onions and sandwiched between dark rye bread, not buns. I didn't enjoy the flavors of this too much. It needed the spicy sauce on the table to counter the richness of the filling. The El Diablo was amazing! I loved the spicy spread and slaw inside the sandwich. This was my favorite of the three. The black rice horchata is a refreshing drink. My husband liked it more than I did. The service is good and ambience is lovely. I really liked sitting outside on the big tables and watching cars go by. read more

Amazing food created by chefs who've worked in Michelin star restaurants, at an incredibly affordable price (I think my meal, which was super filling, came out to about $7, and no in my party, even with drinks, spent much more than that). I wish I lived closer so I could come all the time! A perfect lunch spot in Soquel before an afternoon at Capitola Beach. FOOD: I ordered the mushroom "philly" and also got carrot soup. Both were great portions. The mushroom "philly" had caramelized onions and perfectly melted cheese and it was just heavenly! The bread was a nice texture and the cheese was just the right amount of gooey. The carrot soup was creamy, had some nuts at the bottom, and was delicious. All the food came in compostable containers - you can tell this restaurant cares about sustainability. LOCATION, AMBIANCE, ETC: Located in Soquel right near the beach, this is a perfect pre- or post-beach spot. They have an outdoor patio which is sunny, but has parts that are shaded from the sun as well. If you choose to sit inside, it feels super breezy as the windows and doors are open to let in fresh air. The kitchen is open and you can watch the chefs do their work! The interior decorations were mainly black and white, and they have a typeface theme going. Even the tiling in the bathrooms was super cute!! I wish I'd taken a picture. PARKING: Parking was incredibly easy, there were plenty of spots right behind the restaurant and the entrance is easy to spot because of the sign. GPS on my phone took me right to it. SUSTAINABILITY AND SOURCING: As I mentioned earlier, all their utensils and containers are compostable and it seems like they care a lot about sustainability. They source their produce from local farms in the Santa Cruz area and it all tastes so fresh, which is lovely. SERVICE: Everyone was friendly and service came with a smile! read more

My go to place when I'm looking for some quick, delicious, and very reasonable vegetarian food. I do eat meat, but also have gout, so I try to keep the carne consumption to a minimum these days. Even a heavy meat eater can eat here and not feel like they're missing out one bit. They have a bunch of things on the menu, but I'm pretty stuck on the breakfast sandwiches and the burgers. All of the options I've tried have been great and I feel like they can do no wrong.
