I knew I was heading into Philadelphia's 30th Street Station to catch my Amtrak train, and as I walked from the Regional Rail platforms into the station, I was looking forward to grabbing a sandwich from Old Nelson I've stopped there before, so that was already the plan. We'll surprise! Old Nelson is gone. It has been replaced by this new grab-and-go market. At first, I was a little disappointed because I already had my meal in mind, but I decided to make the best of it. After looking around, I actually thought the concept made a lot of sense. They have a nice selection of hot foods, cold items, drinks, pastries, snacks, and ready-to-go meals. You can sit in also. Since I was trying not to overdo it before my trip, I picked up a quiche along with a small bite-sized brownie. The brownie was the perfect little treat just enough to satisfy my sweet tooth without feeling like I had gone overboard on calories. The quiche was delicious and it was warm The prices were reasonable, and the service was friendly and efficient. The more I thought about it, the more I realized this type of store fits a busy train station perfectly. Most people rushing to catch Amtrak or SEPTA don't have time to stand in line waiting for a made to order sandwich. Being able to grab something quickly and head straight to your train is actually a great idea. So if you're heading through 30th Street Station looking for Old Nelson, just know it's no longer there. Instead, you'll find this grab-and-go market that makes it easy to pick up a quick meal before your trip. read more

This salad from Pret A Manger was everything!!! I stopped by the location located inside 30th Street Station on my travels. It was honestly hard for me to decide on what to order because everything looked delicious! The soups. The salads. The sandwiches. All of it! I got a salad that had large pieces of chicken, strawberries, cheese, avocado, red onions, corn, bacon, and a creamy ranch dressing. I'm still thinking about this salad cuz it was sooooo good!!! Sprinkled a little salt and pepper on the avocado before chopping everything together! I also ordered a matcha and the salad plus drink combo made my travel day significantly better. While we waited 2 hours for our train we came here, mostly since there was nothing else close by and it was freezing outside. We were so surprised to find ready made hot items as well and cold. As we glanced at the sandwiches you could feel the heat radiating off of the large warmer that housed a variety of soups, warm sandwiches and quiche. The Moroccan lentil soup was hearty and warmed us right up. While it didn't really taste spiced (and needed plenty of salt and pepper), the chunks of veggies and hearty texture really satisfied. I also had the caprese half baguette. There was plenty of pesto and mozzarella on it and the baguette was perfectly chewy and soft. There was one small slice of tomato, but I don't really love tomatoes so I didn't mind them missing. I didn't try the egg salad sandwich, per my partner it was meh. He felt the egg salad had a nice texture and yolky flavor, needed seasoning, but the bread was a detractor. It appeared to be on wheat bread and he stated the bread was too dry and needed more mayo. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised and in another "layover" I would gladly try the other items. The turmeric chicken and farro soup is definitely on the list ;) read more

I stopped here after an especially shitty airport experience and got a shot of espresso with almond milk and an almond pastry. I have to say this was one of the best pastries I've ever had! Soft and gooey in the middle and flavorful but not overly sweet. The coffee is good. The gal at the register was kind and chatty. The environment is one that's faster paced, not super noisy but it's in the entrance to the train station. Overall I'd stop here again and try more things and recommend you do the same! I don't think you'll regret it. She said people think prices are high but i didn't experience this as it was about 11$ for both of my items. read more

This used to be a nice place to grab a bite and sit while waiting for your train, but with all the renovations taking place at 30th Street Station, it's been relegated to a rather large kiosk area. It gets crowded quickly with people and their bags, especially while folks decide what they want to grab out of the fridge stations. My almond croissant and parfait hit the spot, and their salads are usually pretty decent too. Everything is dated so you can check for freshness, but I've never found any out of date options. Didn't take long for them to make my coffee or to get checked out either, so if you're looking for something more than a small snack, it's worth checking out. read more

They offered so many sandwiches and soups made to order. Pret is...Pret. The sandwiches are not made to order. They are boxed in the fridge cases. The seating is convenient, but I'd rather have a spot like Old Nelson back. Pret sandwiches are expensive and always leave you hungry. read more

When I went up to pay for the bowl, the staff made it a point to tell me and went out of his way to retrieve the side salad that came with this bowl. There are two small versions at 30th st station. Went to the first one in the main hall. Stood at the cash register for maybe two or three minutes while the workers were busy talking to each other and never looked up. Just left my food on the counter walked away. They didn't notice. Went to the other one. She rang up my food & opened the drawer. She didn't realize she forgot to put cash in her drawer. No worries paid with a credit card. What a mess this place is. The skinny dude with the tattoos has the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I haven't fought anyone in at least 10 years, but I almost swung on him & got into a fight after he wouldn't let me finish ordering ONE single iced latte, snapped at me for not immediately specifying what milk I wanted, & then shooed me to the side without even asking me to step over. I was dropping my wife off at the train station we saw Pret a Manger when looking for a spot for a quick lunch. Pret a Manger translates to "Ready to Eat" (I still remember some of my 4 semesters of college French!) but is a UK based chain. My guess is as good as yours. We tried Pret a Manger at Heathrow and also in NYC. We were pleased to find a Pret in 30th Street Station. Pret's food is pretty simple but tastes fresh and healthy. They have a nice selection of sandwiches, wraps, salads and such. Pret also has a goo variety of drinks, cofee and juices and of course some baked goods like cookies and croissants. Prices are reasonable and the staff was very friendly. There is a good amount of seating and the space was kept clean. I think and hope they will do well with this location. read more

Part fail, because they only had 1 person working the register, but then someone clocked in and helped out. These 2 guys really pulled it out of the fire and rose to the occassion. Plus, they were both VERY pleasant and nice. Excellent customer service. I also agree with some of the other reviews here...this just might be some of the healthiest options within 30th street station, and I picked up a chicken and mozzarella sandwich that had a balsamic drizzle on it and it was really fresh and tasty! Some nice seating inside, and a little cooler in here too. I noticed some "straglers" that were buying food at other places and coming in here and taking away tables from paying customers. Shame on you. Whatever, haters gonna hate, potatoes gonna potate. Try these guys out and jump on it quick if there is no line. read more

I was at 30th Street Station as I was taking a train down to Washington D.C. for the AIPAC Policy Conference. I hadn't eaten much for breakfast so I decided to stop off at this Pret. Generally, I go to the Au Bon Pain when at 30th Street Station, but decided to to try Pret as it was fairly new. First, this Pret is located where the Cosi used to be, but they have totally redone the inside and it looks great. When you walk in, you are greeted by a nice large selection of grab-and-go items including breakfast sandwiches, stuffed croissants and oatmeal. Next to that, they had a variety of drinks including fresh lemonade, orange juice and more. I decided to pick up the stuffed croissant with ham and cheese as well as the lemonade. The sandwich was also kept under a heat light so when I sat down and ate it, it was nice and hot! By the cash register, they have a variety of fresh baked goods including croissants and cookies. I decided to try the chocolate croissant as well. After paying, I decided to get a nice seat at a large booth they had. I started off with the stuffed-croissant, which was excellent. The ham was nice and tasty and the cheese added a nice secondary flavor. The chocolate croissant was also very nice as the chocolate itself was superb. I also had the lemonade and while it was very fresh and tasty, I wish they had it in a larger size. It was only 13 ounces and it was the largest drink they had. The staff here was also very nice and polite. They checked me out efficiently, but I did not feel rushed. Also, they should probably do something about the backdoors as they swing back really fast could potentially cause an injury. Altogether, Pret is a great edition to 30th Street Station as it serves great food along with friendly staff! read more

There are plenty of options in the grab and go case as you walk in and there is plenty of comfortable seating in a much quieter environment than out in the main station building. One thing that disappointed me is the extremely high beverage prices. They wanted $4.49 for a regular size iced coffee which is on the high side, even considering inflation and the premium / captive audience nature of this location. $3.49 would be a fair price for this item. read more

Oh, I am in love!!! Fresh sandwiches and other goodies! I love the early hours and late hours. The pricing was reasonable. The employees that morning we went we polite and helpful. Same with the evening male employee. It was clean inside and comfortable. It was nice to be in an enclosed area away from all the hustle and bustle of a train station. It was nice to eat a delicious breakfast before heading out on the train. This was my first experience at this place. Then I saw them all over DC. Pret is hands down the best option in 30th St Station for a healthy meal and/or seated caffeine fix. Grab n go coffee might be better from Saxby's, but there's no dedicated seating and no AC. Plus, the coffee at Pret is organic! The staff at the counter have been absolutely lovely each time I've visited. They're super friendly and brightened my day. I've been really impressed with this Pret-A-Manger. I feel like a lot of the food offerings at 30th Street Station are questionable at best. However, Pret has shown it's consistency in quality. I've found this pretty surprising given that I think the ones in NYC are nothing to write home about, but alas, here I am literally, writing to my home (of foodies and friends) about how much I enjoyed Pret. The first time I stopped by, I got their limited edition Lobster Roll. It was around $9 and it was amazing. It really left the kind of impression that made me return today. There were a lot of options, I didn't know what to get. There were a lot of chicken options, a few veggie and tuna options, and two turkey sandwiches. The California Turkey sandwich was bomb. For $8, I thought it was a great deal. Oozing avocado, egg, lettuce, tomato, and ranch dressing on wheat! Definitely tastier than the run-of-the-mill fast casual sandwich. The chips were great. I can't believe that all the chips are made by Pret. I got the olive oil and rosemary. I was really impressed that it was low in saturated fat. Really good. I also got a latte which was just as good as last time. Can't beat the consistency in taste, quality, atmosphere, and service. read more

I travel frequently for work, so Pret is basically the only place in 30th street station to get a quick bite when on the move. They're everywhere and are consistent. The sandwiches are fresh and hit the spot when you need a quick bite. The line moves quickly, which is great when you're in a rush. I have had sandwiches, croissants, chips, fruit, cookies, salad, frittatas, basically everything. The cookies and great, everything else is solid. A little on the pricey side for premade sandwiches, but they taste fresh so I can't complain. read more

I've been reviewing the incorrect location or "Pret a Manger" moved to Locust Walk and "Pret" at 30th Street Station replaced "Pret a Manger." Confusing I know! Anyway I've had lunch at the Pret/30th Street location several times and I've never visited the Locust Walk location, I wish I could move my reviews over to this location. I'm using the yelp app not the yelp website so I guess it will remain as is but here's a summary of my review of my Pret experiences at the 30th Street location. Customer Experience Service 5/5 BUT...caveat, it's uneven - there may only be one person at the register during high volume times of the day but the lines move fast and the staff is well trained. At the beginning there were a few glitches and even now I've noticed staff shortages but they transition smoothly and everyone Is very nice! This 5/5 rating is for staff members not for the right amount of staffing during the different points of day. Signage and Experience 2/5 Signage needs to be bigger and if the menu changed often (which it does) they need to consider using large monitors with changeable signs/menus b/c you have to do a lot of reading and other people maybe waiting behind you. This location is in a train station, they need to make more and bigger font signage so people can know what's available, where it's located the price and the calories without having to pick up the product and read it. I don't want ten+ people handling my pre-packaged lunch do you? Everyone is very patient but if Pret posted a large menu monitor somewhere away from the self serve chillers and heaters and made the signage bigger at the self serve chillers and heaters area, the choice process would move faster and people wouldn't feel annoyed or pressed for time. Menu 5/5 Most everything offered at Pret is pre packaged and seemingly healthy. I'm not a dietician but I am a seasoned dieter, albeit badly: I know what the calories, fiber/fat/protein/sugar content should be. They offer hot and cold pre packaged soups, Mac n cheese and cold salads sandwiches and composed platters as well as little cups of breakfast type parfaits and portioned lunch snacks that are bigger than they look. The only items packaged as you wait are the pastries which look divine. When Pret first opened, I thought the prices seemed a bit steep . But now that its neighboring competition raised its prices, Prets prices don't seem as high anymore. Food 5/5 I've tried several items at this location including but not limited to the following: The Mac n cheese with spinach and tomatoes 5/5 It is a nice size portion for about 440 calories not low cal but not overly high cal and it was delicious- it contains cauliflower which makes it seem richer than it really is. Spinach and artichoke Mac n cheese 3/5 it's not as tasty as the aforementioned tomato n spinach version, watch out they look similar. The feta tomato soup 2/5 BUT... Though it was too sour for my taste, other people LOVE IT! I won't be ordering it again. I enjoyed the turkey chili 4/5 So like I said it's all pre packaged so I would not have ordered it if I'd seen it first b/c there is corn in it. I avoid corn in soup. But even though I don't love corn in soup, it was tasty and it was under 400 calories for the large portion. I'd consider ordering it again b/c it's turkey chili not beef. Though it was a bit too salty for my taste, and I can get beef chili from Wendy's right across the way; I'm really watching my beef consumption; so I may opt for the corn laced turkey chili a la Pret. Moroccan lentil soup 5/5 Bestie loved the Moroccan lentil soup, she said it was the right thickness and flavor and it smelled divine. And it wasn't too salty; I can't stand overly salted soups so it's a good recommendation. Egg salad & watercress sandwich 5/5 It's a thin sandwich- if you're very hungry I suggest adding another item or some other accompaniment. This sandwich was very affordable for 30th St. Salmon on salad greens 5/5 A nice size portion of salmon served over a bed of mixed greens and other veggies. It was delicious and very filling. It seemed like a healthy choice, so for those at war with their health and weight, this is a good choice. :) The show stopper: before tasting the following, I'd have said it was the spinach and tomato Mac n cheese but WAIT THERES A NEW ITEM: Thanksgiving Harvest sandwich 6/5 Standing ovation please! Though this is an unassuming looking sandwich, it packs a flavor punch of yum! Bestie gave me a taste; I said it was too big but then i gobbled (get it?) it up! I highly recommend it to everyone! Great for if you want a place to sit, inside of 30th street station Atmosphere: Usually you're able to find seating inside on tables, which is great for doing work if you're at the train station early. Drinks: The quality in coffee between Pret and Saxby's isn't huge, though I tend to grab Saxby's for coffee and Pret if I want any food. Pret has less "special" lattes, but if you're looking for just a cup of regular coffee or espresso drink, Pret is a great option too. Overall: 4 / 5 - convenient place to grab coffee, and pick up some food before the train. The fact that there is seating available is also very convenient. read more

British chain Pret a Manger has opened "2" shops in Philly!!!!! The company is 30 years old and has 450 sandwich shops all over the world. I have been a BIG fan for at least 20 years, ate lots of baguette sandwiches in the 1990's in London. So thrilled Pret a Manger has made its way to Philly, 30th street station is an awesome location! Picked up a sandwich, dessert, and drip dark roast coffee for my train to NY today. Highly recommend!! read more

I'm SO happy we finally got a viable lunch option in 30th Street Station! I've been here three times and have yet to be disappointed - this might very well be my new go-to. For starters, the place has a way better, less awkward setup than Au Bon Pain, and a MUCH better selection. They've got: cold & hot sandwich varieties, grilled cheeses, salads, soups, wraps, burritos, fruit, yogurt, acai bowls, pastries, chips, coffee, etc., etc., etc. So far I've tried the cold turkey green goddess wrap (turkey, basil, pesto, cucumber, mint, tzatziki, tomato...fresh AF), the chicken noodle soup (hearty), spicy chicken avocado wrap (spicy and amazing) and the green chili chicken pozole soup (delectable). Everything is super fresh and made on premises. Even though it's grab-n-go, it never feels like it's been sitting there all day. I can't wait to try every variety of wrap and salad they've got. Plus, the staff is super friendly and always calling out to ring you up at the cash register or walking around to restock and answer any questions about the food. I have yet to try the coffee or tea here but I imagine it's good (plus they offer a rewards card where you get your 10th coffee free). Baked goods always look delicious, as well. This Pret outpost is supposed to open at 6 a.m. and it was almost 7:00 when I walked in--I repeat, almost seven. It wasn't 5:58, or even 6:04, it was almost seven, people. So, fellow commuters, beware before counting on this Pret location for morning comestibles because clearly you can't count on their staff to do their jobs and sell food. I was at union street station in Washington DC looking for something healthy to eat. I decided to get a wrap from chick fil a since the ground floor food court doesn't have anything that's healthy. I soon regretted the decision to eat at chick fil a when I stumbled upon Pret. I should have walked up one more floor. I was in and out of au bon pain and Pret looking for a salad option and the salad at Pret had a bigger salad for almost the same price so of course I would get Pret. However I decided to get the quinoa with spinach, purple mashed potatoes, avocado, sweet potatoes and chicken. I have not seen anything like it before so I wanted to try something new. It tasted soooooo great. However the sauce that came with it tasted strange - not sure if it was expired or it was supposed to taste like that but I didn't really like it. I also got the orange juice which tasted very fresh and organic I'm really glad that Philly now has Pret because that is my new go to for healthy and good tasting food.
