    Inside the caprese baguette
    Ashley M.

While we waited 2 hours for our train we came here, mostly since there was nothing else close by and it was freezing outside. We were so surprised to find ready made hot items as well and cold. As we glanced at the sandwiches you could feel the heat radiating off of the large warmer that housed a variety of soups, warm sandwiches and quiche. The Moroccan lentil soup was hearty and warmed us right up. While it didn't really taste spiced (and needed plenty of salt and pepper), the chunks of veggies and hearty texture really satisfied. I also had the caprese half baguette. There was plenty of pesto and mozzarella on it and the baguette was perfectly chewy and soft. There was one small slice of tomato, but I don't really love tomatoes so I didn't mind them missing. I didn't try the egg salad sandwich, per my partner it was meh. He felt the egg salad had a nice texture and yolky flavor, needed seasoning, but the bread was a detractor. It appeared to be on wheat bread and he stated the bread was too dry and needed more mayo. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised and in another "layover" I would gladly try the other items. The turmeric chicken and farro soup is definitely on the list ;)

Thank you, Pret staff! Although you were closing and my train and 7 others were delayed for hours--you gave me my cheddar tomato with greens sandwich "on the house." A kind customer service move, much appreciated! Note: Pret is one of a only few places open (i.e., Hudson, Dunkin' and vending machines), with the food court closed until renovations next year.

Good food a little pricy grab and go. Good for a rush and very French. Got goat cheese yogurt salad fresh.

Came into pret on my way back to NYC from Philly. Stopped by to grab a small bite at 4pm. Still many options available from cold salad to hot options. I got this chipotle chicken grains bowl (hot) with a ginger kombucha. I have to call out the service. When I went up to pay for the bowl, the staff made it a point to tell me and went out of his way to retrieve the side salad that came with this bowl. I had no idea it also came with a side of cold salad! Kudos to the team for making sure I got the additions to my bowl. Overall, grain bowl wasn't anything special. It was fresh and healthy.

What a pleasant surprise to find not only edible but tasty and somewhat healthy food at the Train station! Pret A Manger is on the main concourse level of Philadelphia's 30th street station. I stopped by on a Sunday night around 6pm and the offerings were scant. The ready made food section had only 3 choices in the cold section and 3 in the hot. No soups were displayed. Despite that, i chose an $8 chicken wrap which turned out to be delicious! I was disappointed in their lack of selection but pleased with my food. Their prices are a little steep. Overall i would stop by here again for a quick grab and go meal.

Service was friendly, fast- they had many people at the counter at once. I ordered a large iced americano. It came with a paper straw but like...no ice? And the taste of the americano was super watered down. I also got a chocolate croissant. They have all the baked goods underneath heat lights at the counter. It was ok. Nothing special.

I was dropping my wife off at the train station we saw Pret a Manger when looking for a spot for a quick lunch. Pret a Manger translates to "Ready to Eat" (I still remember some of my 4 semesters of college French!) but is a UK based chain. My guess is as good as yours. We tried Pret a Manger at Heathrow and also in NYC. We were pleased to find a Pret in 30th Street Station. Pret's food is pretty simple but tastes fresh and healthy. They have a nice selection of sandwiches, wraps, salads and such. Pret also has a goo variety of drinks, cofee and juices and of course some baked goods like cookies and croissants. Prices are reasonable and the staff was very friendly. There is a good amount of seating and the space was kept clean. I think and hope they will do well with this location.

Great place to grab a quick bite before boarding the Amtrak Train to Boston. We like their sandwich selection and salad. There are plenty of inside seating.

I went to Middle Child a few weeks ago just after 3, only to find it closes at 3. Today I returned, around 1, and there was a good crowd there having lunch. I ordered the Surfer, and the Hash Brown Potatoes. The Surfer is Middle Child's most popular sandwich. It's made on a Ciabatta bun, and has a thick layering of tender, lean, House Turkey breast, with melty Swiss cheese, arugula, blueberry chutney, and Duke's mayo. It's hard to describe just how delicious this sandwich was. My biggest concern was the Ciabatta bun - it's not one of my favorites, as I've found them to be tough and difficult to bite through. My fears were quickly put to rest after the first bite! The bun had a slightly crispy exterior - and when I followed through with my first bite, the tender, soft interior of the Ciabatta was a pleasant surprise. In fact, it complemented the thick savory Turkey, arugula, chutney and mayo! It was one of the best Turkey sandwiches I've had. Now, if that wasn't enough, don't forget, I ordered the Hash Brown Potatoes. It said Hash Browns on the blackboard, see attached picture, but these 'weren't your Mama's hash browns'! They are described online as Latka'd Hash Browns. They are thick crispy squares that combine a potato pancake latke with a hash brown texture. The interior reminded me of my mother's potato kugel, which I still reminisce about. In one word, those fried crispy potato squares were outstanding. It's 'a must try' and goes so well with the Surfer! Last, but not least, the Limeade! It was so refreshing! Not too tart, not too sweet... just right! I'll be returning to Middle Child in the not too distant future!

The corned beef was an enticing vibrant pink, tender and juicy, with a perfectly balanced and pure saltiness that accentuated the beef's natural flavor. The scrambled eggs were incredibly smooth and creamy, complemented by the rich, melted cooper sharp cheese. The rye was toasted with butter, giving it a thin, crispy crust and a soft interior--a bit softer than Hershel's East Side Deli's, fragrant but not greasy. Every part was delicious, and the combination was harmonious and delightful. The portion of ingredients was very generous, definitely worth the $14.50 price. The service was a little slow, but the moment you tasted it, you would forgive everything!

I had the turkey on wheat with American cheese. I opted for the Russian dressing since I'm not a fan of hot deli mustard. I had it toasted panini style. The service was quick, friendly and you could tell they took pride in what they were doing. My wife opted for the pastrami on wheat with may and provolone cheese, also panini style. She had potato salad as a side and the coleslaw. Both were good. The Marketplace is a very large (formerly Penn Station) turned open market area covering food, produce, meat market, flowers, artisans etc. A wonderful place. They serve you fresh waster (Drinks to order include Hanks, Boylan's, Harney and Sons, Teas etc.) and will serve you at the table or you can walk up and order at the counter. Their menu has a great mix of deli, steak, "chicken" steak, meatball, sausage and cutlet sandwiches with interesting flavor combos. You can also get breakfast (till 11AM) or a salad. They also have sides that include - tots, fried pickle chips, onion rings, fries, fried mozzarella and Zayda's pickle spears, chips and cherry pepper shooters. They have a couple of vegan options and GF rolls for extra $$. The staff was more than happy to give recommendations and their favs. My first lunch was The Eye - $15 Ribeye steak, Cooper Sharp American, fried onions came on a seeded Liscio's roll. If you enjoy the somewhat newer Cooper sharp style that's out there you'll like theirs. The Cooper sharp was gooey, mixed in well with the meat and on the heavier side. The ribeye was thin cut, delicious and the portion was pretty hefty. Second visit I went with - The Nad - $15 Chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, arugula, Mike's Hot Honey that came on an unseeded Liscio's roll. The portion size was good, chicken was fresh with good breading, the hot honey was a tad on the heavy side, but the flavors all came together pretty good on this one. Sweet, salty, light bitterness from the arugula and some heat from the hot honey. I added Thin Cut Idaho fries to make it a combo for $3 extra and I have to say they were delicious. They smelled like McD's and tasted similar. They are cash only, but have an ATM on site. You can use a card if you order online. The one bathroom they have was pretty clean and organized. I will certainly stop back for a visit if I'm in the area to try out more of their menu. Thanks guys!

This is far from the traditional banh mi, not so much due to the meat choice but the fact that the vegetables take a back seat.
