    The Old Herald Burger

We have been here a few times since the new kitchen opened. Nice variety, and a great pet friendly patio to listen to eat and enjoy the band. The burgers are phenomenal! Love the french press beer, a blend of coffee and vanilla.

The pan seared salmon was small for the price.

The bar itself is gorgeous and the selection of drink drinks and what they have on tap is more than I've seen anywhere else. The service is pretty much immediate, the mixed drinks are fantastic (and I am very finicky about my mixed drinks), and the food....OMG THE FOOD! I really don't like burgers, but the person I was with got a burger and it was amazing and insisted I tried it and let me tell you, it was the best freaking burger I've ever tasted my entire life! I went there a second time, on a Saturday night, and it was very busy, but service was still very quick, my mixed drink was perfect, music was great, but not too loud where you couldn't hold a conversation and they even had security! At a bar/restaurant on Main Street in Collinsville!! as a tiny little female, who happen to be there with her tiny little female family member, I felt super safe and had a great time! So if you're looking for somewhere to go eat, I suggest Sloans, (I just found out they did brunch on weekends and I can't wait to try that, plus they have a full Lent menu, so no having to search while I'm allowed to eat on a Friday right now!). And if you're looking for a place to hang out and have a good time, while still feeling safe, with good service and good drinks later on in the evening, go to Sloan's!

The Jalepeno Mac and cheese bites are such a yum app. You can park on the street, they usually have a spot in front of a minute walk away. It's tucked on Collinsville main road downtown and it's super cute at night lit up! I love that this bar does seasonal drinks and specialty cocktails. It's a change from the other nearby bars. Love the cranberry marg!

If you're someone who likes variety at breakfast, the Sunday buffet is a really good deal. I enjoy having multiple breakfast items, and that kind of variety usually gets expensive if you order à la carte at other restaurants. Because of that, the buffet feels like a huge savings. Everything on the buffet was hot and well stocked. The biscuits are more like canned, layered biscuits, but they're still good. We especially liked the gravy, biscuits, sausage patties, bacon, chicken strips, pancakes, and hash browns. The eggs were standard scrambled eggs and mixed in well with everything else. The only awkward part of the buffet is getting to it. You have to walk down a narrow hallway past the kitchen, which can feel a little uncomfortable when people are passing each other. Because of that, I'd recommend sitting in the buffet area if possible--it just makes things easier. On our third visit, we tried the burgers and sandwiches, and they were really good. The burger reminded me of a classic drive-in style burger. I ordered the mushroom Swiss, and while it was solid, I wish they offered an aioli or more savory mayo option. That said, it was still very good with the mayo packet they provide. The bun was pillowy soft, the burger was tender, and it held together well without falling apart. My fiancé ordered the pork tenderloin and said it was good, though I can't speak much on it myself. The fries were cooked well. One small downside for me was the upcharge for choosing a side other than chips. Chips work fine with a sandwich, but for burgers, I wish there were more included options unless the restaurant makes their own chips. That's more of a personal preference than a dealbreaker. Overall, we've really enjoyed the food and have already been back several times. I can definitely see us returning. With the current cost of eating out, this place feels like a good value--especially the Sunday buffet. The gift card deal they're running is also a nice bonus.

I will say this is an old school diner with everything to match. Luckily the prices matched up with the old school decor. The buffet is set out on the patio and there were plenty of options. From salad, to your favorite breakfast items- eggs, hashbrowns, sausage links, sausage patties, bacon, pancakes. Then there was biscuits and gravy, Mac n cheese mashed potatoes and gravy, chicken nuggets, chicken tenders, pasta, meatballs, brats and some packaged little dessert cakes and muffins. It was a great value for $14.95 and if you have a big family it is an affordable way to eat out and feed the whole family. My server was great, she talked highly of the place and with passion when I mentioned it was my first visit. If you are someone who doesn't like credit card fees, bring cash to avoid the additional 3% charge for using a credit or debit card.

Less than 5 minutes I got my drink, super delicious if you ever get the chance to try I also got a new food items, the pecan sticky bun & raspberry muffin looked too good to resist! I'm also a big fan of the 'day old pastries box' because I do try to cut costs when I can it's only $7 & I love the idea of getting a surprise! They're always delicious and taste like they were made that morning. I can tell they use real, quality ingredients for their food. I have issues sometimes with gluten and certain processed breads, but I really enjoy being able to have something sweet without all the extra junk! I got out with spending about $25, pretty good deal and better quality than most places!
