Today was my first time going to Pressed Roots and I have to say it did not disappoint! First, I want to start by saying, there was absolutely NO wait time! As soon as I walked in the door I was in the styling chair within 5 minutes. Also, none of their stylists were working on more than one head at a time, so it was in and out. Next, given that I'm someone who doesn't trust new people to do my hair I was thoroughly pleased with the stylish! A stylist named Daesia worked with me today and she was so sweet! Everything she did was so gentle, which I appreciated, as my scalp can be sensitive from braids sometimes. Every part of the process was gentle; from the scalp massage, to the wash, to the detangling, to the blow drying, to the flat ironing. She took her time throughout every step. She also checked in with me several times to make sure I was comfortable with how much she was trimming in the back-so considerate! Most importantly she did not burn me not once with the flat iron (we all know that happens when ppl rush). Overall, I had a wonderful experience and the establishment is lovely! There were ppl constantly sweeping to keep the space clean, and I watched them clean and disinfect all of their brushes after each client (MAJOR)! I came here for the first time this past Saturday to get my hair done for a weeding I was in. I also had not gotten my hair straightened in over two years so I was a bit nervous for that. I wanted to make sure the place I went to didn't damage my hair. When I reserved my booking it did me an estimate of how much they time they thought it would take. The time estimate was correct and I actually finished a bit earlier. My stylist Anne did a great job! She was great to chat with and really had my hair shining and glistening. She trimmed an inch off and had my hair feeling healthy. She did a great job since I do have textured/curly hair. I was offered mimosa or green juice and I did have the green juice. Let's just get straight to Pros: Parking is free located in a back lot plenty of spaces a plus It's a very clean esthetically pleasing establishment For my appointment I showed up 10 minutes late because I'm new to Dallas and missed my freeway exit but when I got there the lady at the front desk let me know they were running behind, so I got lucky there lol, the offered me water and told me because of the wait time they provided me a free deep conditioning treatment. I had two different hairstylist one who washed my hair and one who straighten my hair both were great very professional and they did a great job with my hair. I added a cut to my service and she did a great job $12. Cons: Pricing isn't transparent they claim on the website the treatment cost $70, but when I went to pay I was told the total was 61.76. I already payed $35 so my total should of been $35 + $12= $47 I don't understand the extra $14.76 they added to my bill. All together I paid $96.76 ..... Also I'm not sure what the business model is for this company but I feel like the scheduling needs to be worked on people shouldn't have to wait two weeks to 1 month to get an appointment. Idk I feel like it should be no less than three days for this type of service I'm assuming is like Dry Bar, the whole point of a place like this is convenience but waiting that long for a appointment defeats the purpose. I think you should try it out, again it's a nice place and the staff is amazing, I'm not feeling the sketchy pricing and the scheduling so I'll just go back to a regular stylist. BOOK AT YOUR OWN RISK. The really big con along with several pros. CON: if you cancel with less than 24 hours notice or if you are more than 15 minutes late, they will refuse you service, BUT charge your card for the ENTIRE service fee PLUS an 18% tip. I was 22 minutes late due to horrendous traffic. My scheduled time was 5:00 - 6:30, so I asked to use my hour and eight minutes I had left. They said 'no' because they had already rebooked part of my time. They charged me for it (plus 18% tip) and they were also reselling it to someone else. I argued and they eventually agreed to do as much to my hair as possible until the next client arrived. She arrived late, complaining about the traffic. The stylist finished my hair about 10 minutes after the client arrived. I understand that they work on a schedule and they need us to be on time. Unfortunately, I can't control Dallas traffic. I let my home with plenty of time to get there. I would have understood if they had just kept the $35 deposit, but to get paid for the whole service, plus a tip and then resell the time to someone else. Come on, that's a scam. No wonder they call you like a bill collector if you're 5 minutes late. It is in their best interest for us to be late. That way they get paid and tipped for nothing. They do good work, but I will never go back. PRO: I've been to Pressed Roots four or five times now and each time I've had a different stylist, but each one was good. In love with this place so I stumbled upon this gem from the black owned business section of yelp... booked instantly just based on aesthetics; which could a horrible reason for booking, but in this case it was the right thing to do. I've personally never had my hair blown out, so I didn't have any huge expectations other than having straight hair without heat damage. So I booked online. The website is super easy to navigate and very inviting. There was a base service which of course was the blow out and a few add one which included scalp massage, deep conditioning treatment, steam treatment, trim, and a few other things... I chose the base package and the trim and deep conditioning add ons & then I paid a $35 deposit and my appointment was booked! The shop itself was conveniently located amongst other shops right across from the Margaret hunt hill bridge in trinity grove, super easy to find. And there was free parking located behind the shop, so no street/meter parking. The shop is as beautiful, if not better in person as they are in the photos. I was greeted warmly and offered mimosa/water/green juice. (OH COURSE I picked mimosas ) I was in the chair in less than 5mins! The wash was great! Love the smells of the products & my hair stayed true to my texture. Which my hair is normally difficult when using new products, but no complaints here. I had Kristen, she was gentle quick and efficient. Great use of heat protectant and she worked around some of my "no growth" spots along my edges. She didn't use too many passes when applying heat, which I read could cause heat damage. She also wasn't Edward Scissorhands, trim happy with my dead ends. I was very pleased with the results. They also sanitized the chairs and swept after each client, it was so clean in the shop! After such a pleasant experience, I couldn't help but leave a tip! The aesthetics of this salon were beautiful! It was very clean. You have the choice of water, mimosa, or a green drink. My stylist Chan was very nice and explained everything she was doing to my hair and make sure I was very comfortable. There were a few cons I have to note. The pricing is not very transparent. The service I booked was $70 for a silk press which is reasonable. A $35 deposit was required, but my remaining balance was around $47-$50. That didn't make sense to me. I also got a deep conditioning/steam treatment ($15). My own preference. The silk press does not come with a trim, which defeats the purpose of getting a press. That is an additional $15. I didn't mind paying for that, but the stylist advised me that she could ONLY CUT one inch of my hair. I needed a little more than an inch cut and more of a dusting, but not a full haircut. The stylist advised me to dust my own hair. I'm not comfortable with doing that so that was a bit annoying because I came here to get my hair managed so I wouldn't have to do anything. Doing the math. My total should have been $100. My total was about $115, with about $17 in service fees. Be aware of that when booking with this salon. One last thing to mention is the music was lit the whole time I was there so I enjoyed my time there and it was relaxing. If you need a real trim I could not recommend. read more

This was my first professional silk press, and they did not disappoint! First, the ambiance is so fun and chic. The detailed decorations are so cute, and the music is fantastic. While I had to come before work, this would be such a fun place to come with a girlfriend. Second, my stylist did an incredible job straightening and curling my hair. She was able to wash, straighten, and curl my hair in only a fraction of the time that it normally takes me. Additionally, my curls actually held up throughout the day (which never happens when I do it myself), and my hair is SO soft and shiny. In short, they were able to get me in and out and make my hair look fabulous. I cannot recommend Pressed Roots enough!! I will absolutely be back. read more

I have been here several times before and I've loved my previous experiences. My most recent experience December 31,2021 was not great. My hair dresser was clearly in training, as were most of the other hair dressers. I felt like I was part of a cosmetology class project, except I had to pay full price. I asked for beach waves, and I got large curls at the ends of my hair. But nonetheless, all the curls were gone by the time I made it to my car, leaving my hair in a poof. My hair dresser could not answer simple questions about my hair, I.e. Does it look damaged? Do I have split ends? Does it look like I need a cut, and if so why? Are my ends damaged or is all of my hair damaged? She was very kind, but she didn't seem skilled at all. I would have been better off doing my own hair. My appointment lasted over 2 hours and my hair is shoulder length. I loved this place because it's black owned and has an elegant old school beauty shop feel, but I have to say goodbye. My hair barely lasted 2 days, and feels like I have permanent heat damage. read more

**Long (but detailed) review** First off, it is so refreshing to find a BLACK-OWNED hair salon that doesn't charge an arm and a leg for a simple style I heard about this place from a friend who is natural and goes frequently, and her hair always looks healthy and smooth. This was my first time getting my hair professionally straightened in over 2 years.. and for good reason, I usually never leave feeling satisfied with what I've paid for. The booking process was simple, and price was fair. Parking was free and easy (huge bonus)! As soon as I arrived at the shop, I was so impressed by how CUTE it looked inside! The receptionist knew my name and offered me a drink, and I was seated immediately. With my mimosa in hand, Ms. Lisa introduced herself, and got down to business! I have very large, very long, natural 3b/3c hair.. so I am used to people acting overwhelmed or intimidated by my hair... NOT MS LISA!! She was so excited and wanted to take so many pictures of the transformation! It made me feel comfortable already! Her scalp massage during the shampoo was so relaxing, I actually dozed off! She even asked if any particular spot was itchy so she could focus more on that spot! It sounds like I am boosting, but I assure you I'm not. She was really that great! The music they had playing was chill r&b and good for humming along! It really just set the vibe for the whole appointment. The blowout she did was phenomenal! Bouncy and smooth.. with just the blow dryer she made it look how others do with a flat iron. That on its own could've been a look. So then she went in with the flat iron, and gave me a trim.. always thorough and checking to see if I was comfortable. Then she styled my hair with curls and pinned them to set. WHEN I TELL Y'ALL MY HAIR WAS FLOWWWWINGGGG! It looks and feels so amazing the products they used were great quality, such as Design Essentials and Moroccanoil... she wasn't heavy handed with product, and used heat protectant throughout the process. I loved Pressed Roots! I've been 3 or 4 times now and always have such a pleasant experience. Everyone is friendly and really seems to care abut the health of your hair and scalp. Everyone is wearing masks, too! My stylist today was Rae and she was just wonderful! She provided hair and scalp care tips (I think I've been having a psoriasis or allergic reaction breakout in my scalp) and Rae seemed to really care about how to take care of it so that it can get better. I felt embarrassed at first because I wasn't aware about this condition but I quickly felt at ease and didn't feel like she was judging or disturbed by the flakiness in my scalp, lol! If you're a mostly curly natural be careful, I got heat damage from my latest straightening even though I shared that not getting heat damage was extremely important and was assured they knew what they were doing. I'm disappointed that I have moderate damage all over my hair and at the root which is the most frustrating. I've been to pressed roots twice. The first time was a good experience. The front desk wasn't good at greeting, the music didn't match the atmosphere it was giving (they played trap music) but the service itself was fantastic! I have 4C hair and it's not heat trained so I'm always iffy about getting silk presses. The first stylist was Janecia. She had my hair like butter! AND it was May summertime hot and humid. On top of me going to the gym my hair lasted for wks. Fast forward to today. Fall cooler weather October. I go in for a press, deep conditioning, and trim. My stylist Chelsea was ruff with my wash for starters, the front desk did greet, and the music was more tamed. My trim was decent but the press was trash! I literally walked out the shop to my car which was parked right in the garage. My hair was flat, dry and dull. I drove the 2hrs back home because of course I don't live in Dallas. Anyway by the time I make it home it has puffed up. Now it's not even tamed anymore. I gather my things to go inside and try not to cry because I did just spend $125 and drive 2hrs to look like a poodle. I call and explain to them what happened. I'm offered by Kevin a touch up which is done 48hrs after original service. I explained to him I couldn't do that because I don't even live in town but I'd be back in town next wk and we can do a touch up then. He said they don't do touch ups that far out. He offered a comp add on at my next visit. Y'all the add ons are anywhere from $10-20. Sir I just paid $125 for a trim at this point. I had a friend who went in this afternoon and watched someone walk out on the exact stylist I had this morning. I then spoke with him later in the evening and he offered 20% discount on my next service. Lol it's still the same amount give or take a couple dollars as the original comp he offered. I honestly feel like this happens because of the training. I understand you can't refund everyone because they don't like their hair BUT I also feel like if everyone is trained on signature techniques, equipment, and products this wouldn't happen or as often. Because how are two people dissatisfied with one stylist in one day? A circumstance like this it's like why wouldn't you refund or redo the style? This is a specialty salon. They have ONE job wash and press. There's no reason there isn't a signature technique in place for this ONE service they do. I was lucky to get a last minute appointment the day before by checking several times a day. I really wanted my hair done now, now, now!
