I was immediately impressed with the way Ana washed and scrubbed my scalp--it felt AMAZING! I honestly haven't had a good scalp massage like that in a long time, and it was probably one of my favorite parts of the experience. Amazing experience. Cierria took amazing care of me. She was so sweet, professional, and GOOD. I've gotten silk presses before, but this was a fast, hospitable, professional, informative experience. This was the "easy" experience I was hoping for right in the heart of Houston. The facility was cute and so clean. As I was coming in, a mom and her daughter had an appointment, too, and they were so happy with their last silk press they came back. That baby was SLEEK pressed and so am I. I took a chance and visited this location because I liked the idea of someone familiar with my hair texture working on my silk press, but I do have some slight concerns. The person that did my hair did do a great job, however, I feel like with a silk press on my hair in particular, the texture should've been a little more sleek and it's really no different from going to dry bar for instance and just adding on hot tools which would come out around the same price if not cheaper. I also showed up on time for my appointment and I still had to wait nearly 15 minutes to start my session. I never have that issue at other dry bar locations so that was part of why I could not give five stars. I also noticed that the Hair Stylist complained of a scheduling issue and I wonder if they are even happy working there? Last but not least, the service charge. When you book, it does take your deposit, but you don't realize that it is automatically charging you a service fee. I normally tip with cash and the person at the front desk didn't really do a good job explaining why I was being forced to pay the 18% service charge and whether or not that was actually the tip and I still gave my Hair Stylist a cash tip, so for the same thing I could've gotten at another salon costed me well over $120 including both the service charge and the tip. I don't know if I would go back just for the simple fact that I am being forced to pay a service fee that they kind of hide on top of the service not being any different from going to any other blow dry bar. I do understand that they do trims and also have a school, but I personally don't think I would be returning. I just feel like it's a case of charging more and providing slightly less. read more

The after photo shows the breakage and the see-through area where the stylist, Deangela, forcefully ripped my hair out with the brush. It also shows that the remainder of the hair is significantly thinner. Deangela is extremely incompetent, unqualified, and unprofessional if she's unable to use a brush properly and provide a basic flat iron service without ripping out the majority of my hair. Ladies, if you value your hair, do NOT book an appointment with Deangela. You'll be devastated. I wish someone had warned me. This level of service and incompetency at a high-end salon is unacceptable! I paid $140 for this woman to destroy my hair. She should not be allowed to touch anyone's hair again. I could have flat ironed my own hair at home without ripping it out. She did not provide a professional service, by any means.*********** I scheduled an appointment with DeAngela, which resulted in severe hair loss. I'm a straight natural with thick, waist-length hair. At the shampoo bowl, she attempted to brush the conditioner through my entire head at once. The brush was immediately stuck because I have thick hair. Instead of sectioning my hair as she should have, she pulled the brush through so hard that she yanked my head repeatedly. I assumed if she was being so rough, she must be using the "unbrush", which is known for not ripping out hair as it detangles. Unfortunately, my assumption was wrong. I was shocked when I saw the large chunks of hair, chunks not strands, that she removed from the brush and the shampoo bowl. Prior to my appointment, I thoroughly detangled my hair and removed shed hair to prevent this type of incident. There was no excuse at all for her to rip out my hair. My hair is heat-trained and extremely straight. It wasn't curly, tangled, or matted. It was just thick. All she had to do was take two minutes to section my hair before brushing in the conditioner. Instead she chose to repeatedly yank on the brush while it was clearly stuck in my hair and ripped out a large portion of my hair in the process. At this point, I should have canceled the appointment. However, I assumed that she had to be a competent professional if she worked at this high-end salon. Next was the detangling, which was also very rough. By the time she got to the blow drying, I was wondering if I'd have any hair left on my head by the end of the appointment. She repeatedly yanked my neck so hard with the brush during the blowout that I was scared she would injure my neck. She even told me to keep my neck straight as she was yanking it. At the end of the session, I glanced at my hair in the mirror but I didn't see it up close and I wasn't wearing my glasses. On the way home, I ran my fingers through my hair and was shocked that it felt paper thin. When I got home, I saw that one side of my hair is now see through. I've NEVER had see through hair. I've always had extremely thick hair. I put on my hair scrunchie and wrapped it twice, like I always do. It immediately fell off due to the major hair loss, and I had to wrap it three times so that it would stay in my hair. I've been growing out my natural hair to my waist for the past 13 years. I can't believe that a professional stylist could be so destructive in a two-hour appointment. I'm devastated by the hair loss, and it will take years for my hair to fill in and reach my waist again. I deeply regret scheduling my appointment with Deangela. I've been to different salons my entire life, and I've NEVER had my hair forcefully ripped out, and no one has ever repeatedly yanked my head and neck the entire appointment.This was my first and last appointment at Pressed Roots, and it will take my hair years to recover from this appointment. Absolutely amazing! Took my 12yr old daughter for her first salon experience and they did not disappoint. The stylist Addy was so friendly, easygoing and took her time with my daughter's hair. I had an appointment on 6/7/2026 for the ultimate Hydrating Spa Package with a trim and scalp detoxifying treatment. I have natural 4c hair and usually upkeep my own hair. The staff were nice, however, they are not experienced with black women natural hair. The stylist "forgot" all the addons, however, I believe she didnt want to do them because I have naturally thick hair. The products being used down to the type of brush and blow dry technique is not best for natural type 3 or 4 type hair. The stylist did not even blow dry my hair completely. I advised the receptionist of my concerns. The type of brush used will pull out natural hair. I was done and sent about my way in less than an hour. The company reached out to see if I want to come in again and I immediately declined. If you are not privy to the type of work performed by your stylist or methods best for natural hair why would I come back. They provided 20% off, half would have been sufficient. We both took a chance but Im left with the short end of the stick. I do not recommend. Based on a review from the 9th of June, I see this is an ongoing issue. I have an appointment with an educated and experienced stylist in the coming week and will update. PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE A NATURAL GIRLIE. I've been to PR (Dallas location) twice, so this rating is an average of both visits. If I were rating the first visit separately, it would be a 5. If I were rating the second visit (1/29/2022) it would be a 3. First visit was with Ms. Lisa. I came in, was checked in, offered a beverage, and directed to a seat where I waited only for a minute before Ms. Lisa came and introduced herself. I just love her. She only works weekdays though. I visited her on 12/17 for a silk press. We talked and laughed; she explained the steps she was taking, and the "why" behind them. Reviews led me to her, and I'm glad I found her. I wanted to book her for each visit, but since she's limited in the times she works, I could not. I paid around $100 for the press and some add ons for hydration/deep conditioning, scalp treatment etc. Only thing I left questioning is why this silk was different than ones I've had in the past where they applied a serum, wrapped my hair, put seran wrap over it and sat me under a dryer. Hair still came out nice. Second visit was with Chelsea L. (There is more than one stylist named Chelsea) Prices went up $5 for the ultimate hydrating spa package (from $65 to $70) and so did silk presses, but no biggie. It was busier this time, and the room was smoky, and smelled like burnt hair (to be expected, but whew). Chelsea was nice-- and she shampooed my hair three times and it felt very good. I'm assuming this was the advertised "stimulating scalp massage." We didn't talk at all- unless she was asking my comfort level, If my scalp itched anywhere, telling me to put my head down, or giving me directions to go somewhere, but I was practicing lessons on my phone so I'll charge it to that - no biggie whether we talk or not, just reviewing. Some may be introverted and want a stylist who doesn't speak; some may be extroverted and want the opposite. Only issues I had with this second visit are 1) My hairline was still extremely dry when I left, from my hydrating spa appointment. I would've assumed it would have been well moisturized- I could've added a scalp detoxifying treatment for $7 more, but I tried the experience without since it was for hydration. Even after 3 washes my scalp still was flaky when I parted it. 2) My scalp was still damp in some places. I didn't notice that until I went outside and the cold air hit me. I didn't want to go back in because I don't like being a bother, and I wanted to go home so I could do something to my head. I will come back to PR ONLY for my silk presses with Lisa. I feel that $70 for this experience was too much for a wash, deep conditioning treatment, and blow dry. My hair is soft, though, dry on the ends...but I will continue to get my hair washed/blow dried in Arlington, because I need that service every 2 weeks and it is more understandable in price for the experience ($40-55). Photos attached are the picture of the silk press I got the first visit and two photos of the second visit. Support this business, nonetheless. I will continue to do so when I need these roots pressed, but not for other services offered. Edited to respond: the deep conditioning treatment so mentioned was the hydrating steam treatment. Still dry. And I only mentioned the two different services in this review because I wanted to review both separately in one detailed review. They're totally different services. :) I will be back during the summertime. I only press my hair 1-2 times a year. Thanks for your response!! .....that's the thing. My hair is blow dried regularly without steam treatments and is not as dry as it was with the steam treatment. I will just go with what works for my hair. See y'all this summer!!! read more

I've been going to Pressed Roots since they opened like 3 years ago. I just recently started going more regularly because I found a stylist that I really like. I get the hydration package which is a blowout with a steam treatment. I only go to Anna because she has the best blow dry technique (she used to work at DryBar). The one thing I don't like about Pressed Roots is that their deposit is $50 for a $70 service so be mindful if you late cancel because you can't get the deposit back. Also gratuity is included so you end up spending closer to $83 which is fine and feels appropriate for tip. The salon is beautiful but definitely smells like burnt hair and even for a blow dry, the heat level is high. I haven't seen any heat damage but will be keeping a close eye. They use awesome products - both Design Essentials and Moroccan Oil. They also use wide tooth combs, gentle detangling brushes (not denman) and round brushes for drying. One thing I wouldn't get here is a trim unless your hair is already in a style. I got a trim 2 years ago and my hair looked very choppy after. All in all, love this shop! read more

This is a very cute shop off a busy street that I visited for a wash and standard blowout. I was greeted once I arrived and directed to a seat quickly, so they honor appointments and the wait was minimal. Note, there were different women assigned to wash my hair and blow it out. Unfortunately, the woman who washed my hair was swirling it around like I was in a shampoo commercial, with no thought of tangling which was a shock since this place is populated almost exclusively with black women on staff and my hair is a natural 4c. I haven't had my hair washed by another person in literal years, but being a black salon that is familiar with all types of black hair I thought it would be cool. Wrong! As expected my hair was a tangled mess afterwards and combing it out was a trial for the next woman I was handed off to. She even stopped at one point and asked if I'd been detangled by the woman who shampooed me because the knotting was so bad. She ended up combing all those knots out (read: ripping them out while combing through my tangles as she blow dried) Lots of heat used just for the blow dry, and they use round metal brushes (not paddle brushes) for blow outs. Best part of the experience was me getting an overdue trim, but otherwise I was pretty disappointed. I wanted to like Pressed more as both my sisters have visited and encouraged me to try it out for a $65 wash and blowout. Maybe it was my high expectations, but I didn't think the experience was worth it at all. read more

Good overall experience! Once you have checked in, they offer you different drinks which is nice. I can compare this to a DryBar experience but for natural textured black hair or Dominican hair salon experience (but better). This isn't a typical salon that caters to different services. You can only get a blow out or silk press. Pros: - great music played in the salon - retail parking available and free - friendly workers - open at 8am during the week - quick service (I was provided service in less than 2 hours) Cons: - They do not offer cuts or trims over 1 inch which I find very weird. I was only able to get up to 1in of hair trimmed off. For someone with split ends and looking for a solid cut it was weird. However, my tech did the best she could with removing as much split ends with the 1 inch limitation. - I'm accustomed to someone telling me what they are putting in my hair step by step and I wish this was something that was done. Otherwise, I would go back! I had a solid experience and loved that I was not in the salon for HOURS! I had an appointment at 8am, was seen around 8:15 and left around 9:40. read more

My first experience was fantastic! The vibe was chill with a mix of early 2000s R&B and Rap playing throughout the salon. Upon arrival I was greeted and offered a drink (a mimosa - - and i had 2 ). The workstations and seating were very modern and clean. Everything was very organized which encouraged relaxation. Tya was my stylist and took excellent care of my hair! I booked the Ultimate Hydration package to prep for my protective styling the next day and added a trim. What I loved most was that my services started and ended on time, which is rare for natural hair care services and black salons, sadly. Pressed Roots thought of every aspect of my experience, and I'm grateful because the trek there was stressful (they a located near Trinity Grove). My only comment is that I wasn't offered a membership. For the monthly fee, I think two blowouts a month is very much worth it, and I may sign up!
