I didn't check out the other hotel (Rok?). I would definitely be happy to stay here again if I had business in the area. Clean, well kept, and the people are friendly. Parking is free and plentiful. If you're able to drive on the left side of the road, it's only a few minutes drive into Exeter proper. Truth be told, I'm better off not driving on the 'wrong' side, so I took the bus most days. The front desk staff steered me wrong on the bus schedule and route numbers, but I have to admit the bus routes are a little confusing. I had to go on trial and error. On the plus side, the buses stop right across the street. This hotel has a bar with some light snacks and provides the typical free breakfast (which is very good!), surprisingly similar to the one you get at Holiday Inn Express hotels in the United States. The only restaurant within walking distance is the Barn Owl, but it is good food.

The food is very good toby menu with a carvery on every day priced at just £5 before the main evening rush and then only a marginal increase. The carvery is very very good, and I thoroughly recommend the cauliflower cheese. As with most Toby establishments, you can help yourself to as much vegetables and gravy, etc. The desserts are simple but nice especially the chocolate brownie fudge cake with ice cream. Again if you go before the evening sessions the desserts are half price also. Nice house wines, variety of real ales and magnum on draft - what more could you ask for. There is accomodation available, but I have not tried these facilities so I cannot comment on them. The staff are very friendly and helpful and will always try to accomodate your seating requests.
