The accident happened in 2013 and to this day, in 2022 I am still having many complications and still needing a lot of medical intervention. I am still struggling with constant pain and may need a 5th surgery and Westlake has refused to help with any of the ongoing medical appointments that I have needed since. I should never have agreed to settle with what they offered me. I knew it was not enough to make even the slightest dent in my living expenses plus my medical care. To this day the company should still be offering me a lot more help than what they did offer. I lost my apartment because I could not work and had too many medical bills to pay and if I do need to have another surgery then I am at risk of losing this home too.

We were fortunate to find Maple Manor as a place where he could do his rehab with the care of an excellent staff over-seeing him 24/7. We were at Maple Manor for almost 3 straight months and we can't say enough positive things. The nurses were consistently knowledgeable, helpful and extremely kind to my father. At no point, did we ever see anyone "having a bad day" and taking it out on my father. They were the utmost professionals. The nurses were very intelligent, always had a smile on their face and consistently made sure my father was comfortable and happy. I should also note that they were always nice and welcoming to my mother who stayed with my father every day. The physical therapists and occupational therapists are also top notch. Not only were they kind and patient, but they did great work with my father. I can't recommend them enough. The staff at the facility were always accommodating and went out of their way to make sure my father's needs were taken care of. Whether it was people at the back office, front desk or the janitorial staff, everyone did a wonderful job. Any time we had a suggestion or complaint it was immediately addressed. Finally, Dr. JJ and Dr. Stella were amazing to work with. They really treated my parents like extended family. Thank you so much to everyone at Maple Manor. Five weeks later, she left weighing just 87 pounds. During her stay: She developed bedsores that went untreated for days. Staff placed a catheter in due to a supposed "prolapsed bladder," which was later confirmed by the hospital to be completely inaccurate. She had unexplained bruising on her temple, along with swelling around her eye. A nurse said it was because she sleeps on that side. Mom could only sleep in one position and had never before bruised like that. We took her to the emergency room, and imaging revealed a fresh subdural hematoma. When staff failed to change her clothing, I did so myself and discovered her bra had been put on backward--with the cups on her back. Her glasses were routinely placed on top of a tall armoire, leaving her unable to see and increasing her disorientation. She became malnourished while there; staff did not document what she did or did not eat because there was no order to do so. I'm thinking full trays of untouched food may be the basis of an order. At no point did staff alert us to bruising, eating problems, or changes in her alertness. However, they did call whenever my mother was complaining or considered "difficult." The facility was severely understaffed. On many occasions, I had to transfer her from bed to toilet, feed her, change her, and even help hold her legs so staff could straight catheterize her. More than once, I assisted staff with repositioning her and changing her bedding. Tim showed no concern whatsoever when we raised these issues. A close friend of ours, who is a nurse, visited and urged us to do everything possible to get my mother out of the facility. I formally requested my mother's medical records. The request was accepted, but to this day, the records have not been provided. My mother passed away two months after her stay at Novi Lakes. I do not doubt that her time there contributed to her decline and death.

I had to help the aide get my aunt cleaned and dressed while stepping in an unsanitary bathroom. Awful place. It was horrific. Drs. were awful (one and only doctor I saw wouldn't look up from his laptop when I said my concern about my aunt spitting up blood.) Manager uncaring and unqualified. Nurses were not qualified(I pointed out obvious concerns about taking 6 pills at once an empty stomach. Nurse said wow I never thought about that point. They asked me if I thought she go to the hospital. Leaving it up to their medical expertise was a mistake . They said will we give her an anemia and see what happens. She died that night.

It's truly sad when you are met with dry, surly inconsistent reception from staff. When individuals seek out facilities like these it is a cry for help with your physical and mental wellbeing. Why should I believe I am able to get better service from a fast food restaurant than a medical facility that I have placed the total care of myself or loved ones. I believe the entire staff should require weekly if not daily sensitivity training reinforced with a performance management regimen. I am not blaming the warm body that was hired to fill a slot. I blame leadership for hiring and allowing this less than substandard behavior. In other words, 'you are only as good as your leadership team.' If an employee respects their leadership and has been trained properly, they would never put them (and the organization) in a bad light. I am now expanding my search for a more suitable facility. It should be a calling for those that wish to work in the field of patient care and not simply a paycheck. He was not impressed with the results and neither was I. He suggested that he perform a manipulation to make the knee more flexible for therapy. He also suggested that I change Therapist and recommended Tony Greene at Athletico in Commerce Twp. I have had quite of bit of therapy on my body over the years but I never had such personal attention as I had with Tony. Daily PT on my knee with Tony for the next 5 weeks made all the difference in the world. He worked me hard (which I wanted) and his massaging really help break up the scar tissue. We moved to Fox Run in November of 2018, and I can honestly say that it is one of the best decisions we have ever made. There are so many things to do here. There are approximately 180 clubs and groups to get involved with. Whatever your interests are, you will find some others that share your interests. The amenities here include an indoor pool, an onsite medical center, 2 fitness centers, physical/occupational therapy, a hobby shop, and 6 restaurants, you can always find great food to eat here. There is independent living, assisted living, as well as skilled nursing and memory care. During the pandemic they took fantastic care of us. We had meals and mail delivered to our apartment door; we were able to get all the vaccines we needed without going outside.
