I recently met with four remediation companies for a small house fire. Preferred Restoration Services (Eric) was superior to all of them. In a nutshell, Eric was honest, relatable, professional, and measured with his approach on how to address my situation. Two of the other companies walked through the door and after a few questions and a Quick Look around they immediately suggested that I go through insurance, throw everything away and essentially remodel the bedroom and possibly the attic. You see my small housefire (lasting 1 minute and smoking for 3) involved a lithium battery catching on fire inside an electronic device. We did a ton of research and found out lithium battery fires are pretty hazardous. The other two companies kept citing best practices under the IICRC manual on how to clean a lithium fire. And though I'm not gonna argue with the textbook, there were no measured approaches, focus on testing for hazardous materials, or quantifying a small fire from a large fire. The thrid company sent out a really nice guy, who was honest and said he was new and didn't know much about fire cleanup. Also I could smell the medicinal medication he had been smoking. But really nice guy. Then Eric showed up. He was measured but took the lithium battery aspect, seriously. He was informative, and aware of the IICRC lithium battery cleanup procedures and said he would do more research. On his own time he did the research and got back to me. We ended up not using Eric solely because of scheduling and availability conflicts. The extra research and protocols required because of the lithium battery fire aspect just couldn't be fit on his schedule. So we found ourselves in a very unusual place. We were chasing him and trying to throw money at him, but he declined because he wouldn't have been able to give us the level of service he wanted to give us to do it right. I mean, if I was reading this, I wouldn't believe me either. I'm not saying I hope I work with him in the future because I don't want mold or another fire in my house. But if you are shopping around and looking for somebody who I believe is honest and has a good work ethic. My two cents would be to go with Eric at Preferred Restoration Services. read more

We had a water intrusion issue in our home. Wet inside carpet and moisture under various cabinets. Mold inspection company detected no mold on air samples, but we needed remediation. Had 3 companies inspect and give bids. Eric from Preferred was the most informative and spent a great deal of time with us (and follow up phone calls) so we decided to go with his company. The day of remediation, we were introduced to the treatment crew. Headed by the fantastic Vincent. He proceeded to fully explain what was to come and addressed all our concerns. The containment areas were arranged neatly and when all tape removed, there was not one mark of evidence on the walls or ceiling. The crew had to remove several baseboards and although minimal mold found, 2 ft up of drywall had to be removed and inspected. Cuts were clean. Additional areas of elevated moisture readings were detected and Vincent took care of all affected areas. There was an extremely pungent odor form an extensive wet slab (when carpet was pulled out) and Vincent extended the allowed air scrubber and dehumidifier times that we were originally allowed. Vincent also made extra follow up visits and phone calls to insure all was taken care of. I can only highly recommend this company for their great work and explanation of all to the homeowner. I had a leak in a window. Had a few guys come out to test for wetness. Eric did an amazing job finding mold others had not even looked for. I hired them to start soon. They put up the wall, dug out all the mold and rotted wood ( the entire wall was rotted and the floor from water leaking for years). The guys kept busy but answered questions and got it ready for heat and air scrubbers. I could hear them talk about how much mold there was. When done they send a link to a google page with tons of pics. All in all I'm mostly happy except for a few exceptions. 1. The repairman had a question about whether something needed to be removed . I texted Eric and never heard back. 2. The handyman Eric referred me to to do the work never called back (notice a theme?) 3. I told them specifically to watch a drawer in the base of my platform bed. They didn't and I know it's broken by the way it's sitting. I can't get it out yet while the plastic is still up. I walked into my condominium at 10 PM on a Saturday night, and found water flowing out of my family room wall along with two inches of water on the floor.
