I called Monrovia Garage Doors 3 days ago, and never heard back. So I looked here and found Kris at Preferred Garage Doors. He answered my call on the 2nd ring. He told me he was about 40 minutes away, and would come right over. Turns out I needed a new opener, as mine was shot. So he was able to make it work until he could get the part, which is not easy now due to factories closing because of Covid 19. He returned within 24 hours with a new system. and had it installed within 2 hours. He worked with my budget, and was VERY honest. I was told 5 years ago by Gregg at Monrovia Garage Doors that I needed new rollers on my door. 5 years ago! And today Kris told me my rollers are worn, but I can hold off on them for at least another year. Now I feel I was NOT told the truth by the fist company I used. The spring on our roll-up garage door broke on a Sunday. I called Preferred Garage Door and left a message as it was outside of their normal business hours. A short while later, Kris called and said they could be out Monday morning around 10:00. At 9:15 he called and asked if he could come early which I gladly agreed to. He arrived about 15 minutes later, assessed the broken spring, gave me a reasonable quote and got to work. He finished in less than an hour and then inspected our garage opener. He noted the opener is 13 years old (with a life span of 12-15 years). He told me to let him know if it started making any unusual noises. He didn't try and sell me a new one, but instead told me that it is in good condition and to not worry about it today. I appreciated his honesty and not trying to up-sell me on anything. We have a one car garage. Our garage door wouldn't stay open so we called for a inspection and possibly a new door and opener. Chris (I hope I spelled his name right) told us he would arrive between 8 and 10 am and arrived at 8:10 (he lives a couple blocks from us). He inspected the door mechanism and made an adjustment in five minutes and didn't charge us for the work. Kris is a miracle worker! I've been using Kris for several years now to install new garage doors and repairs. Lately I've been having a problem with my home garage door being somewhat unresponsive. I've been troubleshooting with Kris over the phone for several months. He's always been gracious enough to provide advice and take my call. I didn't have Kris inspect the garage because it worked more or less but sometimes only standing a few feet away with the remote. Rather than replace a part that may or may not fix it, I decided to wait. I ran various tests over months. Today Kris asked whether I had replaced the bulb with an LED. It turns out I did several months ago. I screwed an old Incandescent bulb back in just now and everything works just fine. I am so disappointed. We have used Kris for a number of years for garage door repairs on both our homes, and he has always been great. However, we actually had him install a brand new door on our garage this past fall, and paid (what for us) was quite a lot--$3400- including an extra quiet motor so that our door would be quiet and not wake the baby. Now, 6 months later, the door is very noisy and I can not get kris to return multiple calls and texts. I honestly thought he would support his product and installation, but it seems not to be so. After calling around a couple of places to get quotes to repair my garage door i was saddened thinking i was going to have to spend over 500 bucks for repairs after i got in touch with prefferred garage door Mr Kris was really nice and took the time to listen to what the problem was he actually came to my house with in the hour of my initial call. He looked at my door and came to the conclusion that it would be cost effective to repair what i had instead of ordering an expensive door panel. Recently our automatic garage door got off its track, partially broke apart, tore up the seal around the door, and could not be closed. I found Preferred Garage Doors via Angie's List when I purchased a garage door tuneup coupon. I have what, we joked, might be the oldest garage door around. I just finished a remodel and the electronics to the opener and track were thrown out. While cosmetically, the door needed some love, i figured if i could just get it working again, a paint job would suffice until replacing completely. I had purchased a new opener and when they got there, I learned it would be no good for my door. Luckily, they had one in the truck and he asked if I could just go pick up two new springs and he would be able to replace completely.
