Got done with work on my car and needed an alignment and was refused to get one. I was told "we are not putting that on the rack" implying that my car isn't "fancy" enough to get an alignment. Not to mention I've been here before to get exhaust work done and they way over charged to just put a tip on, and also the welds were terrible bc they cracked within 2 weeks. I've taken two of my trucks over there. A 23 Durango RT plus and an O2 Yukon XL Denali. I had an alignment done on the Durango and a brake job done on the Denali. Last year I had a very bad experience because the catalytic converter was stolen from my wife's vehicle. I came to this well-recommended place and honestly the treatment was excellent, the guy guided me, he told me how much the parts would cost, he even recommended that I try to see if I could get them cheaper because they are expensive. A trusted mechanic is worth going out of your way for. Or so I thought. In the interest of Yelp review credibility, I need to provide an honest update of Precision because I don't want anyone else to go here based on my original review without hearing, as Paul Harvey used to say, "The rest of the story". Due to the many positive alignment experiences at Precision listed in my previous review, I gave John a chance at a significant repair, a four corner strut replacement with commodity Monroe- and NAPA-branded parts--one that the dealership had quoted over $1,280 using OEM factory parts. The Precision repair was quoted as $750. What wasn't stated clearly up front was that, due to the age of the vehicle, there were other parts that would definitely need to be replaced, although the actual word used was "may". Once the repair was underway and the car was on the lift, well, you know the old story: the $750 "bargain" escalated into $1,100 at 5 PM. Each $30 part became a $100 add-on to the total bill. Note that labor was already included since these parts came out with the strut. On a big job, it's customary not to price gouge for incidental parts, but, instead, Precision chose to. When I went to pick up the vehicle, I was told that one of the parts--a strut bearing plate--was "noisy" and might just need to "break in". Noisy my arse--it was freaking LOUD. I gave it the weekend as requested, and it only got worse. Then I invested another 100 mile round trip and a morning of my vacation week so they could replace the bearing plate that I should never have left with in the first place. When they took it all apart, the defective part disintegrated into a shower of ball bearings and plastic. Although I wasn't pleased, at this point, I would have left this update as a 3-star review with points off for frustration, wasted time, and inconvenience. However, within a year, the driver's side front strut clearly failed; it was actually worse than before I had the original struts replaced. Crossing expansion strips on the interstate was painful. Knowing the struts had a lifetime warranty, I called Precision and asked about having it checked, and John cheerfully told me to "just come on down" (as if I were only 5 minutes away). When I got there, John expected that I leave the vehicle with them all day. Instead, I insisted that Precision check it out while I waited. I was told by John after a test drive that it definitely wasn't the lifetime warranted struts. Instead of admitting to the faulty strut, he attempted to blame the motor mounts and/or the cradle mounts. Little did he know that the cradle, transmission, and motor mounts had recently been replaced by the dealership. Another wasted trip with no resolution. Moreover, I was expected to come back a fourth time when I could leave the car for the day so they could do a "more thorough" inspection. I threw in the towel at this point, because it was clear I was being given the run around and being sized up for unnecessary repairs to cover the cost of the warranty work. I suspect that Precision would eventually have found the bad strut, but only after I pair for enough unnecessary repairs to make it worth their while to find the real problem. Sure enough, a few months later, I was at the dealership again for unrelated work, and asked them to check all sets of mounts, without providing a reason. I have documented proof these parts were fine, as I always suspected. I hate giving a bad review to a local business, especially when every single prior experience had been positive. However, there were several things wrong with this situation: 1) Hefty (nearly 50%) price escalation from initial estimate 2) Pawning off defective parts hoping I'd just live with it and not come back 3) Avoiding warranty work claims while at the same time soliciting extra work later verified as unnecessary If you'll check the filtered reviews, you'll see I'm not the only customer who has been in this predicament. Parts will fail. That's understood. When half of the parts used on one job fail, you need to find a new place to buy your parts. I can only surmise that John just doesn't want to stand behind his labor and faulty materials. So much for giving the little guy behind the local business a chance. I saved $180 on parts that failed left and right with a shop that wouldn't stand behind them, and I spent most of that savings on mileage for two return trips on problems that shouldn't have left their shop in the first place. That, and my car's suspension is in far worse shape than before they touched it. A lot I saved going with an independent shop, lemme tell ya. [Footnote: I checked into Monroe's lifetime warranty, and it would have paid the shop something for their labor ($50 as I recall). While it wouldn't have been their retail hourly rate, no warranty work pays full tilt. Small price to pay to keep a happy customer happy, don't you think?] read more

Feel kinda taken. I called and asked if they had time for alignment this week. He said yes Friday. Ok so I dropped car off Thursday night before closing to give him keys. So I pick car up Friday afternoon. Ask guy was the alignment off at all? He says man just a tad, was pretty good. Even the paperwork shows it almost perfect. So he says, yeah man, you can pretty much guarantee that if you have radial tires and nothings happened to car that it's the tires. Yeah all tire shops will tell you that too, everyone knows that. Still charged the 80.00!! So here's my take on it and why I'm perturbed about it. When I called I told him it's pulling to one side and hadn't hit any pot holes or even curbs. I've never had to have alignments on any my cars. (He should have asked about tires then) but didn't. When dropped car off (he should have gone out to look at it and looked for those tires IF he's saying that's a major culprit to radial tires.) I would have rather had the tires checked FIRST and spend the 80.00 toward new tires if needed. Yeah kinda bothered I was charged. Should have been given info before even doing the alignment. read more

Was greeted in the door with the word "... Yes?" eye rolls and attitude as if I had interrupted the story of a century. Older gentleman kept asking me "And what makes you think that needs to be replaced?" as if I were a child. After explaining to him everything and answering his questions (I don't look like a mechanic but I have atleast a basic knowledge of the work that goes into the job having worked on my own cars for years) he still doubted me and I had to show him a picture of the leak before he finally told me "Oh yeah that's a leak, they'll do that. You need to get it replaced." ... I'm aware, that's why I'm here... Other gentleman in the office never said a word other than "...So?..." after I had mentioned that I called and gotten a quote from them about the work. He then rolled his eyes and left the office. You guys might do great work but I wouldn't know. Your attitude is just absolute garbage and I may have needed little work done but I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

Took my Jaguar F-type in too have pads and slotted/drilled rotors installed and i was quite skeptical since many places turned me away for being a foreign car. It has turned out great drives smooth. I recently had my rack replaced on my Honda by my mechanic. He advised me that I need to get an alignment. I took it to Precision because they have done work for me before. A few days later my power steering was low so I refilled it and took it back to my mechanic. He showed me the boots on the rack had been badly twisted and power steering fluid was leaking out. Today I went to precision and brought my mechanic with me to explain this. Marc, the manager told me there was no proof that them twisting the boots caused the leak. He admitted that they messed up, but would not cover the cost of the labor ($175) to put the new rack on, even though he admitted fault. He did say that they would cover another alignment. However, I'm not sure if I want to take my chances with them again. read more

Made an appointment based on a phone conversation with owner (John) who stated there would be no problem to have 4 shocks replaced on my truck the next day. I took time off my job to drop the vehicle off based on his agreement to do the work the next day. He said his schedule was open for this work Upon arriving shortly after 8:00, the owner became very evasive about committing to anything and said he could only "look at it" and get back with me. I stated that he had given me the strong impression that there would be no problem doing the work that day and that I was somewhat surprised that he would not need all this time to just "look at it and get back with me" I asked whether or not he was going to do the job or not, and he replied that "He was not going to ruin his whole day" to replace my four shocks. From the start, he was rude, loud, arrogant and seemed totally disinterested in following through with what he had so invitingly committed to doing the previous day. All the signs were there that I was going to get the run around and he displayed zero indications that he even had the expertise to do the job. Message to owner - don't worry, you'll never get another opportunity for this customer to ever "ruin your day" again. Within 5 minutes, I found a reputable auto mechanic who had no reservations about replacing 4 shocks. Should never have wasted my time at Precision. read more

I went to Precision to get the new exhaust system put on to my Jetta (entire system including the CAT on back). Not only did they get it done in a matter of a couple hours, but they also made it look VERY clean, professional, and functional. On top of that, they didn't price gouge me either; extremely affordable and won't sell you garbage you don't need. The entire staff is very friendly, several of them even taking a second from their task and saying "hi" as I walked in to the shop. I live in Dallas now so it would be pointless to drive all that way, but believe me, if I ever move back within an hour of New Braunfels, they'll have my business again and again. read more

After being so strongly recommended by my local car club members I really believed that my experience with Precision would have been overwhelmingly positive. Unfortunately, when I left with my classic car yesterday, l immediately realized that something was horribly wrong. At first, it felt like the lug nuts were loose. After the left, front tire blew out, and the tow truck dropped the car off at my house I discovered something much worse. The wire wheel was severely damaged. The spokes were broken in multiple places from some type of impact or accident that occurred at Precision. The wheel was literally coming apart as I was driving off their lot! Had the innertube not punctured and flattened the tire, I would have undoubtedly wrecked my car at a minimum and most likely hurt or killed myself or someone else. Someone at Precision had to have been aware that they damaged my wheel, yet they still let me leave in a dangerous vehicle that could have killed someone, rather than accept responsibility for a mistake that I am sure was just an accident on their behalf. When I called the next morning the tech who did the work denied knowing anything about it and said he didn't notice anything unusual about how the car drove when he took it for a test drive. That is inconceivable to me and I absolutely don't believe it. There was major damage done to my wheel after I dropped the car off yesterday morning that certainly was not there when I dropped off my car. There is no way you could have driven that car 5' without knowing that there was something really wrong with it. Due to the severity of this situation in terms of my safety and that of others, as well as the absolute lack of accountability for the damage inflicted, I have no choice but to leave a negative feedback rating. This alignment cost me 3K in replacement parts and I was not even offered an apology. I am just grateful it was not any worse. read more
