I was on the fence about leaving a review because I'm a business owner myself and I know how negative reviews can really impact the future but I feel homeowners should know what they may encounter when dealing with Luis Lopez of Precise Stone. Our job entailed removing existing granite countertops and installing new quartz site countertops. He was very clear with me at the initial meeting that this was an easy job for him. Luis was extremely persistent with trying to gain my business and I was very hesitant at first especially after finding out he was unlicensed but due to his persistence and positive reviews on yelp I decided to move forward with him. Below lists the main pros and cons I experienced dealing with Luis: Pros: -Price is reasonable Cons: - Gave original price based on pictures and my measurements. After coming out he wanted to add more money for demo/prep so I showed him the original text which included all of it. He seemed a little shocked. - Had to come back multiple times to remeasure, grab sink template for fabricators last minute before install could start. - Text me to send him measurements on certain areas that he should have obtained. - He rescheduled 3 different times for installation time/date with practically no notice. Wife had to take off work one day because of this and my work schedule suffered. I had to keep moving things around to try and be present. Had to push back backsplash tile guy 3 times to the point he had to reschedule for a month out because he had other jobs already scheduled. - He didn't install new plywood like his bid stated for the majority of the countertops. Didn't explain to me why he didn't. - He brought his dog to our house and when I showed up from work one day his pit bull was in our back yard just hanging out with a bowl of dog food and water! Never asked if he could just figured this was okay??? I have 3 kids under 6 years old which he was aware of, they were just out running errands with my wife at the time. - He went through my tool box in my garage and used my screw driver, brooms, and am actually missing an extension cord that was on my work bench (have yet to hear back from him about this one) it's not that I wouldn't have let him use them It's the fact that he never even asked. Just grabbed them assuming it was okay. - Left my garage a mess every single day he was there. I had to blow it out each time he was complete. Except for last day because I cant find my extension cord which I always put back in the same spot. I'm pretty OCD about organization. - Swept up countertop area but never the floors which I had to do each time he left. - Left my hose on for entire weekend when he knew my wife was leaving in a hurry for a couple days. - Left old granite piece in my garage. Guess he thought I wouldn't notice but now I have to haul it. - Gave me attitude when I asked him about an uneven seam instead of take 15 seconds to explain how he could remedy it. - Was very paranoid when it came to getting paid. He would ask for money before any progress was even made and then send me weird texts wondering if I was going to pay him. Just felt odd. - You have to write a check directly to him. He doesn't have a business account. - He is unlicensed. - Installation looked okay at first. After looking at it closer you can see a lot of problems. Just look at the pictures. read more

11/10/18 Note: Luis has still not given me my reimbursement as promised, which is expected since he has shown a history of terrible business practices. Unreliable, unprofessional, and just a difficult businessman with low morals. Working with Precision Stone (more specifically the owner Luis) has been the worst business transaction experience I've ever encountered. Refrain from using Luis's services at all cost unless you want to deal with somebody with no courtesy or respect for his clientele. He seemed like a nice guy at first by communicating quickly but after I gave my deposit, he stopped texting me and ignored texts until the next day. I drove from Clairemont to his shop in San Marcos multiple times after making an arrangement and he wasn't there and didn't inform me beforehand. I picked up and paid for my custom quartz thresholds (weren't to spec and not finished by agreed upon date) in San Marcos and informed Luis I would come back and need a little taken off so they would fit in my doorways. He agreed and said it was an easy job. I arranged a time to pick them up and Luis was a no-show. He apologized (wasn't his first time), said he forgot and would deliver the next day. He didn't deliver the next day, apologized and said he'll deliver the next day again... didn't. This happened for more than a week. He even apologized, assured me it was done, but contacted me the day after to get details so he can do final changes. I also set up a time for him to deliver and I told him I will leave work early to make sure I'm home and he doesn't show and no text to let me know. After a week of missed deliveries and apologies, he said he 'd deliver tomorrow so I confronted his actions and ask him to give me $50 if he doesn't deliver like he said just to compensate me for all the wasted time and hassle. I even said that I don't want the money, I just want you to do what you agreed upon so I can finish my floors. He somehow puts the blame on me and at this point, I need to be as complacent as possible so I can just get what I ordered in good condition. He had my money and he had my thresholds so he could easily make them not to spec and force me to go through this process again. This project was supposed to be done in a weekend and it's been more than 2 weeks. The story ends when he texts me an hour after he was supposed to deliver (I'm home from work) and says I need to pick it up in San Marcos at 3pm. I'm at his locked up shop at 3pm and he doesn't arrive until 5:30pm. After waiting, there was no sincere apology and tried to make it seem like a customer waiting 2.5 hours in his parking lot is a normal business practice. I just picked up my product and left so I never had to work with him again. Like I said, Luis is a poor representation of what a small business should be. My father owns a small business so I prefer to support those types of people. I respect their time and efforts so I expect the same from them. When working with Luis, I ended up spending more than double on my product due to driving multiple times to North County only to leave empty handed, leaving work early to meet him only to have him not show up, and the added stress and hassle of dealing with him. Ultimately, he's just not a nice person, completely unprofessional, and shouldn't be treating customers this way. A business should make sure their clients feel important or at least show mutual respect. This transaction proves that Luis only cares about himself and is out for short-term gains for his business. Minus one for the nice people... hopefully nobody else has the displeasure of supporting this business. read more

This was an entire waste of our time. This company came to our house to estimate fabrication and gave us a price completely disconnected of the work to do - I assume because they are probably subcontracting and taking a very significant margin. 7k for a kitchen granite fabrication excluding materials! They were not even aware of the value if putting plywood in earthquake sensitive areas. Do not use unless you get at least one or two other quotes. read more

We had a previous install through another company that was simply done all wrong (indoor glue for outdoor application, outdoor plywood sublayer in stead of cement board), which caused the skirts to crumble and fall off. I decided last minute that I'd like to start my kitchen remodel after Thanksgiving and finish before guests on Christmas. Realized slightly before the cabinet installation completed that I needed someone to perform the countertop portion of the work. Called around, got estimates, and decided to go with Luis due to his availability and price. He was able to make two slabs work for our entire setup. He was not too happy with the end result as we practically had no extra material, which made it impossible for him to make the veins line up and make it seem seamless. But it was my choice as I did not want the added cost of another slab. Not only did Luis do a good job but after the fact, I asked him what was the best tool and method to drill holes for the hood installation and he said he'd do it. For someone to go above and beyond what he needs to is what makes them 5 stars compared to 4 stars. The only issue I had was his scheduling. I still have a Marine Corps mentality, so when someone tells me I that they're going to come at a certain time, I expect them to show up right on the dot or give me a heads up beforehand so that I'm not left with my thoughts. With that said, it was normally 30 minutes to 1 hour late. For most that's not too big of an issue. To me, that's an eternity if I'm left to my thoughts. read more

I contacted Luis to trim a piece of granite that I have behind my new stove. He said that it would be about 1.5 hours worth of work. We scheduled an appointment for 3pm. At 4pm I sent him a text asking where he was. He said that since he was coming from San Marcos (I live in La Mesa) that he was only about halfway there because of traffic. I checked traffic and it didn't look like traffic was that bad. But I gave him the benefit of the doubt and rescheduled for the following morning so that he wouldn't have to sit in more traffic. I took the next day off of work to wait for him and he never showed. He never responded to my phone call, text or email. I finally got a text from him at 2am, he said that he had just found his phone. He asked if he could come by at 6am, I saw the text at 5:30am as I was getting ready to go to work. I told him that I couldn't take anymore time off of work and asked him to do it on the weekend. He said no. I'm a small business owner and if I made a client waste an entire day, I would have no problem making it up to them on the weekend. When I told him I was uncomfortable with all this, he stated I had wasted his whole morning. He only spent less than 5 minutes at my house when he ask for 50% up front. I would not hire Luis again. His workmanship was shoddy (poor/incomplete caulking) and he was unreliable. Had to hire a carpenter to fix his mistake because he was a no-show after inconveniencing me for two days waiting for him to come fix the problem. After a purported 20 years in this field the principal does not have a contractors license, provides an estimate which he believes is a contract, does not actually have a shop as the address indicated is not occupied by Precisestone. Additionally, this individual never once kept an appointment, does not measure accurately or take note of the actual shape of area he's going to work on. Add to that, 3 of the 4 times he did make it to the job site he had a different assistant with him, two of which didn't seem to have a clue what they were here to do. Lastly, we found this individual to have no concerns for damages he caused not only to the inside of our home but the outside as well and to include trying to fabricate inside our home and cleaning up with rags that were replete with water, granite dust and caulking. If you're interested in hiring an individual that will take your property upon leaving, is unable to keep an appointment and believes he has no responsibility for anything, this is your guy! read more

When my husband and I started the process of looking to redo our kitchen, we sent out a few request for quotes via Yelp. Luis was the quickest to respond... when others took hours if not days to give me any kind of response. Not only was he quick, but he was able to give me a rough idea of cost based off pictures of kitchen and Measurements I had done myself. He stayed true to his quote and didn't try to up the price once he came to our home. He had quick turnaround once we decided to move forward and was at our place within days to start the demo process of the current counter we had. We bought the quartz slab from a store in Mira Mesa, and Luis was great about coordinating with them directly for pick up when it was ready. There was some delay with delivery from the warehouse that pushed our job back a couple days, but Luis was able to move fast once he had the slab and was able to fabricate/cut and do the install within a day and a half after! He was great about communicating and always answered any text or call we had. I would highly recommend!
