This place is such a cool concept! Grab a beer from the bar, find a seat, and head on over to either of the food locations. I ordered the chips and guacamole and salsa for my husband and I. Some of the best tacos and best Hazy double IPA's we've had in a while. Today just happened to be Taco Tuesday so they have a special: $13 for three (of the same flavor) tacos and a beer or pop. Seared Tuna: juicy, full of flavor, and topped with guacamole and other colorful toppings. Delicious! Pork Carnitas: topped with slices of purple radish (?) and spices. Very good. We ordered our tacos and took our beeper and chose seats at the bar. Great to talk with the General Manager and hear how they changes flavors of beers sometimes and keep flavors other times. Oh Precarious, how I miss you. The beers were always great. The food was hit or miss sometimes but more hits than misses. The overall vibe of Precarious is perfect, though. I've visited when it was packed during the weekend, when they had a live band, and during the week when it wasn't quite as busy. Every time I enjoyed being there and relaxing with friends, drinking some great beer. This is gonna be on my list of places to visit the next time I'm in Williamsburg. read more

Ok so we loved the brewery and family friendly arcade. They have a TON of arcade games that use quarters. Great for kids!! They also have TV's and had Trivia on Wednesday night. I tried the Kung Fu Kittens hazy ipa and it was amazing, not too hoppy, just right. The burger was great from the ODB place. However we took 1 star off for the food from Alter Ego. My hubby said the beef pho was terrible and my kid would not eat his shrimp spring rolls. Anyways we should go back as we loved the beer and arcade games! read more

We went for taco Tuesday and got 5 tacos, one high noon and a can of coke. I think it came out to around $45. (High noon alone was $7). Unfortunately the register is located in the corner of the restaurant opposite the special menu so you cannot see the specials while paying/ordering. Turns out they had a 2 tacos and a beer special for $10...... we didn't know that nor did the girl behind the counter reference anything. Our mistake, we should have asked if they had any specials but it just left a bad taste in our mouth that we weren't aware until walking out. So Precarious Beer Project is spacious with many many games and beer selections. Surprising how large the space is for the CW area. Beer choices were plentiful with friendly and patient beertenders. There is plenty of seating in long beer hall tables throughout the tap room. Lots of fun video games to play with retro pinball machines The music is loud and it can be difficult to have conversations. There is an outside patio that is heated with gas patio heaters. The food choices are based off of street food with many choices. The two food restaurants will please everyone from adults to children. The atmosphere is fun and encourages a good time. This was a fun family stop with something for everyone in Colonial Williamsburg! Beers were great, atmosphere is super awesome and the food they offer was also super good. Love the set up, especially that you can go to different food offering stands and put it all on the tab. Stream-lined and easy, just what we like to see. Tons of seating, lots of different ways to stay entertained. We went to the burger joint located inside and thoroughly enjoyed what we ordered; the hot dog and the dirty fries. I enjoyed my time at Precarious. I came in with a very large group after a lacrosse tournament and we are able to find enough space for all of us despite it being so busy. The line for beer was long but there was another cashier on the other side of the bar that never had anyone in line. There is tons of seating and arcade games for kids. There are two restaurants on site that were actually pretty good. A taco joint and a burger place. Both churned out food pretty quickly and your tab is open across the brewery and food so you can just add it to your open tab which is nice to not need to have a bunch of transactions. If you dont like kids, stay away as they were everywhere which didnt bother me. Convenient location near all the shops and downtown stuff. read more

We have been staunch supporters of this business since it opened. However, it appears they no longer cater to the average brewery attendee and have moved into the realm of children/family. They seem to run free and scream, stand on tables and abuse the games with no discipline from their parents. What used to be an enjoyable place to eat and enjoy a beer is now a loud daycare environment. I feel like you're losing your core local audience and their spending as a result, since there are other local breweries that don't have the same issues on this scale. Please find a solution, as we miss the old vibe. Do you have policies to curb the bad behaviors and don't enforce those? I'd spend more time and money there if I didn't have to contend with the loud, screaming kids that don't have disposable income and don't come there to enjoy the product for which the business is named for. read more

Came for the Schitts Creek trivia night. Speedquizzing was very fun and lively. The chips were good. I also got the buffalo cauliflower wings, which were good. The beertender helped me pick which beer to get since I'm not a fan of beer. She suggested the Lemonade and Shade. It didn't taste like a beer too much at first, but then towards the end it tasted pretty hoppy. I'd look for a sour next time if they have one on tap or try the sangria. read more

We had a great experience at Precarious Beer Project tonight. The vibe is family friendly and casual and the food and beer are awesome. I ordered the chicken Cordon Azul Burrito, which is fried chicken, pork belly, queso, rice, and pico de Gallo. It was very filling and delicious. It came with a side of homemade tortilla chips and they were even cooked crispy and perfect. My husband ordered three different tacos: ropa vieja, Cabo con queso, and the peppered pork and he thought all the tacos were deliciously savory. He said he would definitely recommend those tacos to anybody. We even ordered a few IPAs. I had the Fruit Punch which was a hint of sweet but definitely a strong alcohol content of 8.6%. We brought our kids and since there's tons of arcade games, it was a definitely a a lively and fun place to be. When we are visiting the Williamsburg, Va area again, we will definitely make a stop here. read more

Full disclosure: I walked into my most recent visit wearing my much-worn Precarious t-shirt. I'm a big fan. But really, what's not to like? The beers are all fantastic (and that's not hyperbole; even their lighter beers are so flavorful that they are very enjoyable), the food is delicious, and I can play arcade games. Or bring my laptop and work remotely. (That's what I tell my boss, at least.) The Taco Tuesday deal is really fantastic. You get three tacos of the same type and a beer. I do wish that the tacos were a little bigger for the price, but they're so enjoyable that I don't object too much. Cool spot with some arcade games that I think just use cash. There's an ATM where you can get coins. I wish their menu was a little more wide ranged for beer as there was only sours and IPAs and one hard seltzer. We opted for the Red White & Brewski which was a sour with raspberries, vanilla and blueberries. I could definitely taste the raspberries and some vanilla and it wasn't as sour as I thought it would be. It was pretty good. We also got the Who Gives a Fruit? Seltzer and that was really good. Super light, just a tad sweet and although you didn't get too much of the Peach, the vanilla did come through. There is also food here but we didn't order anything. read more

The main attraction is the beer and it's really good and really varied. The hazy IPAs are probably the best, but the brown ale, oatmeal stout and sour I had were all impressive. The non-alcoholic wheat was a bit disappointing, but above average for non-alcoholic beer. The arcade was a blast with the kids as a break from Colonial Williamsburg. The tacos were very good. The chicken tenders and fries from the burger place were fine, but see the reviews for them separately. The chill communal picnic tables are a nice low-key touch and the fact that everything is all on one central tab is nice. It can get busy though, so be prepared to jump on your section of table and keep it. read more

Two years ago this brew pub showed promise. And now it has exploded. Certainly the most fun place in Merchants Square. No competition really. The vibe and setting are casual--games are around corners but you can settle in with a group and stay a. Long. Time. It is self-serve, order at counters. They regularly bus the tables. Beers are sharp, well presented, good range of trendy brews with old favs, like porters and stouts. Sorry that the burrito bowls are gone but hey the smoked wings make it up for the switch. Outstanding--meaty with flavor and tender. Love the catfish and chorizo tacos. Then the queso and chips allow you to try multiple beers but still stay frosty. Very nice spot close to the school. We came in at just the right time- before everyone else started coming in after 4! There are separate lines for ordering alcohol and food. My Malbec was a little pricey but good nonetheless. The current special is wings with a beer for $14. Definitely bring a friend because no single person can eat that many wings by themselves. Oh my goodness! This was the best place we went in all of Williamsburg, including the taverns. The food was excellent! We came 2 times it was so good!!! (My husband arrived a day before me so he came 3 times!) The beer was excellent. I ordered tacos and nachos and they were an absolutely delicious! The 2nd time we came I was feeling a bit fat and I ordered a salad. It was excellent! And having multiple arcade games including skeeball and air hockey always helps. I had been to Precarious when they were attached to Amber Ox but I had never been in the actual brew house. I didn't expect to see 20 different beers. So the options were a little overwhelming, but I had a couple of samples. The Dank You Next was my favorite. Although it didn't mean much to me when I asked the bartender about it and she said well you could really taste the dank. Like I had any idea what she was talking about. But this place has a little bit of every style, but they focus on west coat iPas and sours. I think they could have Alewerks a run for their money as the best in Williamsburg. read more

I'm surprised at how popular this place is, especially in 2020. But then again, not too surprised - Williamsburg needs more cool hangout spots like this. I love hanging here, grabbing tacos, and cracking open a cold one with the boys. Their drinks rotate periodically, so you have the opportunity to try different things. Prices are reasonable and staff are nice. They have a taco Tuesday special, trivia on Wednesdays, and live music some other nights.
