    Pilsner = perfect
    Anthony I.

A great selection of beer, an outdoor fire pit with dog, friendly seating, and a fantastic menu of snacks and entrees. What's not to love? On a recent trip ti Williamsburg we were looking for a place to grab a beer and enjoy the brisk outdoor weather, as we had our pup with us. We tried quite a few options, but for me, the pilsner is a great, flavorful, and easy-drinking beer. A perfect afternoon beverage while you plan the evening.

LOUD! I have to stress this.  Most breweries are laid back but not Precarious.  It's right in downtown Williamsburg and I can't deny I think it breaks the typical stereotype of Williamsburg.  It breathes a little life into a historical town.  So be prepared... The setup- 5 things happening here: 1. Mexican station- stationary food trailer inside the facility serving all things Mexican (it's own line) I had the carnitas quesadilla. Not much flavor here.  My family did really enjoy the beer cheese and chips.  The beer cheese was a win! 2. Burger station- another food station serving all things american food (short list, think chicken wings, burgers and fries.) (It's own line) 3. Beer station (it's own line) I had a strawberry daquiri. Love that this is an option here. Only thing- small glass. Tasted good. 4. Games- think pinball, air hockey, skeet ball, etc...  Just enough to keep the kids occupied.  Bring cash! 5. Merch room (must stand in beer line to purchase) The rest of the place is set up like a German beer hall with long wooden tables flanked by a few cozier areas on the outside.  People are on the move here.  The music was very rap/electric boogaloo (if you know what I am talking about!)  I definitely would have enjoyed the facility more if I knew the concept before hand and also if there weren't as many people.  It was a Sunday afternoon and they had two people working the brewery area. It took a long time to get alcoholic drinks and even longer to get a burger! Needs some work on efficiency.

Friends and I came to Williamsburg to try some breweries. We found this right in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg and across the street from William and Mary. As it was a holiday weekend, the parking lots were full, but we were lucky to find street parking nearby. The brewery was packed with families, as they have food and games inside. We were happy to find that they offer trivia on Sundays, so we each got a glass of beer and joined in. We had a lot of fun and enjoyed the beer. If you're in Williamsburg, you should definitely stop in.

This was a cool brewery. They had nice indoor and outdoor areas where you could sit. Many great beer choices, especially my favorite, Drip Culture.

Stopped in today for a beer and tacos. Had the Kung Fu Kittens IPA and several street tacos. The beer and food was very good. The vibe inside was laid back and spacious. The ordering process is a bit different, but manageable. Honestly, the worst part of this experience was the horrible parking situation. Had to park a half mile away and walk because all paid parking lots were full, and nearby street parking was full.

True score a 3.5 The beer is pretty good, Kung Fu Kitten was my favorite (rated a 4/5). There are several food facilities on hand, video games, and plenty of seats. But the layout is confusing with hidden counters and no flow. Ordering a beer is very odd. Order from a register while one bartender gets buried with dozens of beers at once. The bartender is hustling and personable but the operational layout makes the service very inefficient. Not terrible, geared towards tourists not beer lovers.

My niece decided she wanted to go out drinking with her OG Aunt so, we made plans to go and have a couple of drinks. Since I am unfamiliar with the area and she is a student she wasy navigator. It was very easy to find as it's right across from the Art museum. We were lucky enough to get a parking spot right up to the door. When you walk in you can see the "behind the scenes" of the brewery. Then there is the beer hall area. The is a very long bar that takes up one side and two places for food vendors (currently Electric Circus and Old Dominion burgers) so you aren't just drinking. There are also games like basketball, air hockey and arcade games. They offer a wide variety of their beers. Some of them are infused with terpenes (the pot smell) which gives it a musky flavor I had a lager and my niece got a sour cider. We chose of of the many couches to chill and chat. We had such a great time chatting and catching up. The only minus was that they really don't have a lot for non drinkers. While they have some non alcoholic brews, a designated driver may want something other than non alcoholic beer or water. Other than that this is a great place to hang.

We all had a great time from the moment we walked in to this establishment. This place is very large and has plenty of seating. There is also a wrap around outside that offers plenty of space outdoor. We got there at a great time, right before the rush came in. Everything was clean and neat and everyone was friendly. We ordered several items to share, wings, quesadilla, grilled cheese, and fries. Everything was delicious and portions were generous. Our granddaughter had a great time in the play area. There were plenty of games for every age. We will definitely be back.

I loved the atmosphere, there were arcade games, couches, and plenty of seating. Staff were friendly and helpful. There were two built in food truck restaurants inside. We had chips and queso from the Mexican stand, they were very good. We also got the BBC wings, a burger and some fries from the other restaurant. The burger was fresh and flavorful, the fries were excellent, reminiscent of those you might have at a county fair. The wings were decent too. I had never had a dry rub BBQ - but it was good. The wings could have been more tender, but they were not bad at all. I appreciated the ability to open a tab at the front and add to it from the bar and both restaurants. The beer was also very good. I would gladly go back!

Bring some cash! Because you're gonna wanna get quarters to fully enjoy everything that precarious beer project has to offer! This Barcade is one of my favorite parts about coming to Williamsburg. Not only are they slinging delicious beer that ranges from IPAs to sours to barley wine, they also have a rotating indoor food stand, they have an array of games to play. I cannot recommend dedicating a few hours to coming in here, grabbing some food, grabbing a brew, and challenging a friend to a very intense game of air hockey, pinball and foosball. Everything about precarious beer project is fun, the whole vibe centers around the customer experience. The art is gorgeous, the staff is helpful and provides great recommendations, and the music is Poppin. If you need something a little bit more low-key, they have fire pits outside and a great outdoor bar area as well. Truly, they thought of everything.

The food, ambiance, and service were top shelf. Try the street corn. The only improvement I have is they need to add beer flights.

Ask the Community - Precarious Beer Project

Do they serve hard liquor drinks?

No. This is just beer and hard cider

How kid friendly is this place?

In addition to the games, music and overall ambience of the place, the food selection for kids is pretty good. It's about time a food/beverage venue adjacent to Colonial Williamsburg is tuned into kids typical preferences and their parents wallets.

Can kids come eat at the taco bar?

The taco bar is actually a "walk up" setting. Orders are placed (at the counter) and customers pick up their food at the other end...like many other fast food settings. The term "bar" is a bit of a misnomer in this case. Hope this helps!

Do they have tvs (would like to watch the football game)?

They have one. Odd angle, but it's there.

    Are dogs allowed?

    Yes, outside they are

    Do you have Malort?

We love malort but unfortunately don’t have any.

    Apple pay available?

We currently don’t have Apple Pay available as a payment option.

The Vanguard is always a mixed bag…read more Ordering a drink on a busy night is the worst. They need a dedicated order line. No idea why they don't have one. It's just a horrible experience as is. They need to go to Precarious and see how they do it. Their food is generally good to great. They have a $5 before 5 app and drink special menu that is a really good deal. Nice spot for adults to have some drinks. Just be patient as service is generally slow. Now onto my recent experience.... I suggested it to some friends who wanted to grab some beers on MLK day which was a Monday. There were 4 of us guys and 7 kids. It's a lot. I get it. They weren't overly busy. Maybe a quarter full. I tried to keep the kids away from other tables by giving them boundaries. They were not happy with us. They didn't like the kids being outside in their patio (freezing, no one out there) etc. The one server was getting destroyed. She had just like 6 tables, but a 16 top. I felt badly for her. Our drinks correspondingly took about 20-30 minutes each time we tried to order. She was nice when she could get to us. At one point a person who said they were a manager, I think she said her name was Hannah, came over and said the kids couldn't be going around (again, I had boundaries not by any other patrons etc. from what I could see they were honoring them, but who knows), anyway she asked if we could keep them by us, which is fine. I then asked her if I could put in a beer and app order as I had been waiting for our server with an empty beer for at least 20 minutes. Instead of taking the order and ringing it in, she said she'd send the server over and disappeared never to be seen again. 5 minutes Iater the server was able to get free from her big table and get our beer orders and food in. Several items were forgot, but at this point we were kind of over it. Just not really your typical relaxed brewery vibe. Felt like they wanted it to be more of a sit down restaurant. That big long story to say it's not a spot for kids. Overall food and drinks are solid. Beer is solidly middle of the pack for Peninsula. Management needs some work.

Hadn't been here for a while and we decided to stop on our way home…read more We didn't order any food items because we had just finished eating but they have some interesting items on their menu which I hope to try next time. We were greeted immediately as we entered. You have to wait to be seated but there was no wait. Our server was so nice and friendly. She took our drinks order and answered all our questions. This place should be on all locals list to check out. The vibe is very chill. We have stopped by when it's been busy and they've had live music and also when it's been on the quiet side like today. Every time the service has been superb and the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcomed. I only wish they were a little closer to home since they are located in Hampton but don't let that stop you. It's not a bad ride.
