This is supposed to be over easy eggs; they were like boiled eggs!
    Graciela C.

I called two different times to ask different questions about the Mother's Day brunch and the gentleman never mentioned that I needed a reservation. This was the first time trying this steak restaurant. When we arrived we were told about needing a reservation and the wait was 30 minutes. We waited a little less and were excited but I made the mistake of only relying on Google Map! The food was good but good luck waiting on your food to arrive in a timely manner. Especially when you have two of the four plates arriving, we were done eating and then the other two plates finally arrived. The service was horrible! Half of the stuff ordered was either incorrect or missing. They also had false advertisement for free Mimosas on Mother's Day, we asked for one, the waiter said he would bring them and we never got them. The server was horrendous and very disorganized didn't know how to keep up with all his tables. But at the end he apologized for his mistakes and stated he would give us a discount; it was $6! The girl server also couldn't keep it straight; other tables were getting chips and cups of beans; we were lucky to get the chips. The ambience was rustic and fine; however the acoustics in the restaurant was horrible because you were unable to hear one another. We will never return! Please know that I usually try to be positive in writing reviews; however the experience was awful!

Terrible rib eye steaks, too dry and tough. Side portion are small. Service was good.

And we'll be back again, I'm sure, but tonight was not a good night. Would rate tonight two stars based on value for price, but bumping up a star based on past experiences. We arrived, with reservations, to a half-empty restaurant. We (my wife and I) were first seated in a tight spot between a very large party and a wall, with a narrow aisle for the server to pass through separating us. After being seated, we realized this spot was not for us and asked to be reseated. Good thing, too, since moments later a player arrived to play corny Christmas tunes at a piano *immediately * adjacent (less than 3 feet away) to our original table. Nobody had asked us if we minded giving up our night's conversation in favor of the piano. I'm sure some folks would've loved it, but you need to ask before sitting people that close to the music. Anyway, glad we moved. If all else had gone well, I wouldn't be bothering with this review. But. The timing was terrible: we ordered cocktails before dinner. When they arrived, our waiter took our order - and within two minutes appeared with our soup and salad. My cream of cauliflower soup was great, but did not mix with my drink. What ever happened to enjoying a drink *before* dinner? My subsequent caesar salad was as good as any I've had, but when dinner arrived my wife's steak and baked potato were barely above room temperature. She also mentioned that her filet was incredibly dry. My New York strip was tasty, though. Oh, but the wine: we each ordered glasses of red, but both were *ice* cold. Like really really cold. So we slogged through the meal, but as you might imagine we were ready pretty soon to write it off as an off night and move on. So we placed our utensils on our plates, pushed our plates a tiny bit away, and sat back a bit so the server could see we were finished. Which he might have, if on any of the six subsequent times that he passed near our table he had bothered to even glance at us. Finally, we had to get another server to request that our server bring our check. So he finally shows up asking what we need, not bringing the check as we requested of his colleague. I again asked for the check mentioned to him that as a server it is useful to look around at your tables whenever you pass through the room. He did not apologize. Look, this is usually a great place. I'm sure we'll be back on some future visit to McAllen. Tonight, though, not so much. I hope the management is paying attention to this and that this was truly just a rare off-night and not a sign of declining service. At this price, you need to do better.

The tables were somewhat cramped together. I came with a large group of friends. Our server was very attentive. He made sure I was content with my special unique cocktail order. The building is decorated nicely with a western theme. There are some taxidermied animals (I noticed the longhorn, and a bobcat), so if you're squeamish about that or vegan I recommend you go find a tofu house. The outside is also nicely done, complete with patio dining tables- but it's so hot this time of year that was not an option for us. Background mysic stayed in the background, adding ambience without stopping conversation. We had no wait for a table, and our server did a great job taking our order. He was friendly, engaging, and efficient. He brought our drinks and one of their loaves of warm bread and butter. The bread is delicious, but I only had one piece to save room for the main course. I ordered the 12 oz. ribeye, a baked potato and a salad. My associate had the Texas T-bone, a salad and some asparagus spears. Both our steaks were cooked as ordered and we both enjoyed them immensely. Mine was so good it did not need steak sauce. I did ask for some extra butter for my potato, and it was promptly brought to the table. The salad was very good, as was the potato (I can get those elsewhere, and for less), but the star of the show was the steak. While their desserts sounded delectable, after my meal I couldn't eat another bite. Prices are on the high side, but this is not fast food, and the service and ambience were excellent. I recommend Saltgrass for a business meal. A romantic date or other special occasion.

Specifically, last time I waited in my car as expected. I was listening to a podcast and didn't realize it had been 30 minutes past my pickup time and they still hadn't brought it out. Had to go up to the window, the girl let me know their texting service doesn't work, and my food was cold. I was upset but took it home and ate it disappointed because I didn't want to wait even longer. Learned my lesson and came later than the expected pickup time, parked, when I texted it said it wasn't ready so I waited 10 minutes before proceeding to the window. It took forever for anyone to come to the window, and even more time the 2nd time when I realized there was stuff missing from the bag. It wasn't until 20 minutes later that I got a text saying my food was ready and they were bringing it to my car. In total I was there 25+ minutes, every curbside spot was taken and I never saw a single employee take food to the cars. It makes me wonder if there really is something wrong with their texting line or if they're poorly managed and it's a "them" problem. The whole point of curbside service is so I don't have to get out of my car. But this restaurant makes it really difficult and makes me not want to get pickup from them anymore.

Review of Main Street Steakhouse -- 920 N Main St Suite 100, McAllen, TX 78501…read more Walking into Main Street Steakhouse, my hopes were set pretty high. The atmosphere was upscale, cozy, and inviting--exactly what you'd expect from a high-end steakhouse. I started with a dirty martini, which was actually quite good, though I was surprised they didn't have Kettle One or Chopin vodka available, and they didn't offer blue cheese olives. Not a deal breaker, but a bit unexpected given the overall ambiance. For an appetizer, I ordered the tuna tartare. Unfortunately, it had a noticeably fishy taste, to the point that I stopped eating after just a couple of bites. Hoping the main course would redeem things, I went with the surf and turf. Visually, the plate looked decent, but that's where the positives ended. The steak was tough and rubbery--difficult to even cut, let alone chew--and the lobster tail was overcooked and dry. Both were inedible after a single bite. The manager did come over and apologize, offering us a complimentary crème brûlée to make up for it. Sadly, that too was a letdown: undercooked, runny, and lacking the crisp top you'd expect from a proper crème brûlée. When the manager returned, he admitted he had tried to cut into my steak himself and couldn't get through it either--so it wasn't just me. At that point, I was ready to chalk it up to an off night and consider giving them another shot sometime. But then the bill came--it ended up being a little over $180 including a decent tip--and to my surprise, the inedible main course hadn't been comped. That was the final disappointment. If the manager himself couldn't cut the steak and acknowledged the issue, how do you not remove it from the bill? I genuinely wanted to like this place. The setting is promising, but they clearly need a more consistent kitchen and a management team that understands how to make things right when they go wrong. For now, I can't recommend it--and I won't be back unless some serious changes are made. Rating: 1/5
