    Cabecita
    Claudia P.

Went in looking for nostalgia; left with taste of disappointment. My family and I have been coming to this place since I was a kid and it was in Reynosa. We were so excited when it opened up in McAllen just north of the expressway. We weee sad when that location closed. It was our go to for a fancy cabrito dinner. Imagine our excitement when we heard it opened up on north 10th! We decided to go on a Tuesday because the menu online said they had cabecita 2 for 1 on Tuesdays. We arrived after lunch rush but pre dinner and it wasn't busy at all. 1st disappointed, they didn't have limonada. We were shown their very small menu which did not indicate the Tuesday special so I asked about it. Waiter said they no longer had that special because that picture of the old menu was 11 months old (2nd disappointment). We ordered 3 cabecitas anyway because that's what we came here for and everything was more expensive than what we had seen. While we waited for the meal, we ate the chips. Normally, they serve the corn chips with one toasted flour tortilla but not this time. The whole toasted tortilla was corn too and the chips were stale (disappointment 3). We asked for some different salsas and 2 were brought but none were that traditional smoked salsa or the red one (you know which ones if you frequent cabrito places). Disappointment number 4. Usually you get served a simple salad and ranchero beans but there was no salad and the beans were salty. (D5) The cabecitas arrived and were as we remembered. The rice served on the patilla was a weird touch because it got a little burnt but it was ok. The service was slow too even though there were only 3 tables seated and us (a party of 3). I know you can't go home again, but we were disappointed. We had always loved this place. We will be going to the other cabrito restaurant in town because we receive better service there.

    Store Hours .

This is my new go to place for breakfast !! I have yet to try their dinner but the breakfast was AMAZING and so authentic !!! On top of their breakfast bar you can also order eggs to order and even add things how you like! They even have menudo on week days, which is a big plus because most Mexican places only serve this dish on weekends . I'm sad I didn't get our servers name because he was great and always refilled my coffee as soon as I finished (I am a huge coffee person so I loved never running out of coffee as I'm having my breakfast). They also have other non Mexican breakfast options like cereal , oatmeal , pastries , fruit and yogurt ! Definitely worth trying!

The ranch we got when my sister asked for a little more dressing. As you can see we had to bring out the bottled water!!

Had dinner for four and the food was great. We like the feel and look of the place. The wait staff did a good job of checking on us.

Absolutely no flavor with cabrito. Not grilled it was like eating boiled chicken. Not worth the money. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Review of Main Street Steakhouse -- 920 N Main St Suite 100, McAllen, TX 78501…read more Walking into Main Street Steakhouse, my hopes were set pretty high. The atmosphere was upscale, cozy, and inviting--exactly what you'd expect from a high-end steakhouse. I started with a dirty martini, which was actually quite good, though I was surprised they didn't have Kettle One or Chopin vodka available, and they didn't offer blue cheese olives. Not a deal breaker, but a bit unexpected given the overall ambiance. For an appetizer, I ordered the tuna tartare. Unfortunately, it had a noticeably fishy taste, to the point that I stopped eating after just a couple of bites. Hoping the main course would redeem things, I went with the surf and turf. Visually, the plate looked decent, but that's where the positives ended. The steak was tough and rubbery--difficult to even cut, let alone chew--and the lobster tail was overcooked and dry. Both were inedible after a single bite. The manager did come over and apologize, offering us a complimentary crème brûlée to make up for it. Sadly, that too was a letdown: undercooked, runny, and lacking the crisp top you'd expect from a proper crème brûlée. When the manager returned, he admitted he had tried to cut into my steak himself and couldn't get through it either--so it wasn't just me. At that point, I was ready to chalk it up to an off night and consider giving them another shot sometime. But then the bill came--it ended up being a little over $180 including a decent tip--and to my surprise, the inedible main course hadn't been comped. That was the final disappointment. If the manager himself couldn't cut the steak and acknowledged the issue, how do you not remove it from the bill? I genuinely wanted to like this place. The setting is promising, but they clearly need a more consistent kitchen and a management team that understands how to make things right when they go wrong. For now, I can't recommend it--and I won't be back unless some serious changes are made. Rating: 1/5

Wine - a stellar wine list, with a focus on Argentina (more Malbecs from different regions than I have ever seen) and incredible value; we had an organic Malbec for $45 with would cost 3x on the East coast Cow it's about the beef! A wood burning grill with the aroma of Mesquite for the Beef Short Ribs, NY Strip, Ribeye (with our without bone), right up to the Tomahawk. The usual suspects (fries, mashed potatoes etc) but we went for the baked beets with cream cheese, pistachio & arugula and the portobello mushrooms; enough for the table and more to take home for lunch tomorrow... And we'll be back again, I'm sure, but tonight was not a good night. Would rate tonight two stars based on value for price, but bumping up a star based on past experiences. We arrived, with reservations, to a half-empty restaurant. We (my wife and I) were first seated in a tight spot between a very large party and a wall, with a narrow aisle for the server to pass through separating us. After being seated, we realized this spot was not for us and asked to be reseated. Good thing, too, since moments later a player arrived to play corny Christmas tunes at a piano *immediately * adjacent (less than 3 feet away) to our original table. Nobody had asked us if we minded giving up our night's conversation in favor of the piano. I'm sure some folks would've loved it, but you need to ask before sitting people that close to the music. Anyway, glad we moved. If all else had gone well, I wouldn't be bothering with this review. But. The timing was terrible: we ordered cocktails before dinner. When they arrived, our waiter took our order - and within two minutes appeared with our soup and salad. My cream of cauliflower soup was great, but did not mix with my drink. What ever happened to enjoying a drink *before* dinner? My subsequent caesar salad was as good as any I've had, but when dinner arrived my wife's steak and baked potato were barely above room temperature. She also mentioned that her filet was incredibly dry. My New York strip was tasty, though. Oh, but the wine: we each ordered glasses of red, but both were *ice* cold. Like really really cold. So we slogged through the meal, but as you might imagine we were ready pretty soon to write it off as an off night and move on. So we placed our utensils on our plates, pushed our plates a tiny bit away, and sat back a bit so the server could see we were finished. Which he might have, if on any of the six subsequent times that he passed near our table he had bothered to even glance at us. Finally, we had to get another server to request that our server bring our check. So he finally shows up asking what we need, not bringing the check as we requested of his colleague. I again asked for the check mentioned to him that as a server it is useful to look around at your tables whenever you pass through the room. He did not apologize. Look, this is usually a great place. I'm sure we'll be back on some future visit to McAllen. Tonight, though, not so much. I hope the management is paying attention to this and that this was truly just a rare off-night and not a sign of declining service. At this price, you need to do better.

Firstly, shoutout to our server Frank! He was hustling hard to take care of us and his other tables, and did a wonderful job. The issues began with the food. Small things, but a tad bothersome. Can't really go wrong with the rolls, and they kept those hot and coming as needed them, so no issue there. The grilled chicken Cesar salad was fine in flavor, but the chicken breast was quite sad. The portion of the chicken was smaller than just the Palm of my hand (and I don't have very big hands). However, the lettuce was crisp & it was dressed well enough. The teriyaki chicken had the same portion problem as the chicken. It was dressed with a pineapple ring, which was nearly the size of the minuscule chicken breast it was served with. A family member had the fried fish, and the fish was overcooked and tough in the middle. The biggest issue was that my younger sister had to wait nearly 10 minutes to get her food after the rest of us had received ours. The child at the table being the last to be served their food was a big problem for us. The only reason it's not a 2 star is because of the service provided to us by Frank out sever, and the friendly hostesses, which were each 5 We'll be trying a Logan's chain again at some point & hopefully having a better food experience.
