Visited twice for concerts. You will need to pass through security upon arrival. It's a very quick and easy process. We got our tickets scanned and were made to go to guest services as there was some sort of issue. Added time to our overall check in process which I didn't appreciate, as we were trying to get a good spot in GA pit. When we went to guest services they said there was nothing wrong and the person who scanned them should have sent us down to a different area. The arena is very nice and well maintained. They had several areas to choose from for food and drink. We didn't order anything but everything was well marked and easy to follow. read more

I love going here for concerts. They get most of the good concerts and I have seen many. You can only buy tickets at the venue if it's an event day. Otherwise, the box office is closed. When you can get tickets onsite, it really helps you save fees which are crazy these days. There are a few gates so pay attention when you walk in which gate you used so you can easily find your way out. They have escalators and elevators to get upstairs. When picking seats, it depends on what's important to you. If you just want to be there and hear it then any seats is ok. I personally just live to be there and hear the music or see the comedian. I'm also unwilling to spend a fortune to see performers and that's what concerts and comedians are becoming. They also have big screens so you can see what's going on. I've seen some good shows there. read more

Home of the Pittsburgh Penguins! Great multipurpose venue downtown near the Hill District along Penn Ave. Very clean with modern architecture and magnificent amenities. I've been there many times for many different events including Monster Trucks, live music concerts, WWE Wrestling, and Penguins games of course! There isn't a bad seat in the house! The service is great from ticket takers, ushers, and food and beverage vendors. Never had anything but a good experience with every visit. Prices are high but that's expected when going there. It's definitely a good idea to eat at one of many restaurants nearby the arena beforehand. Also parking is pricey but cheaper lots are available if a longer walk doesn't bother you and your family and friends. Seating can be cramped and uncomfortable for people over 6 feet tall. Very little leg room and seats are a little too close for comfort unless you're in a private suite. Great venue overall. Always have a great time no matter what show you attend. This was a nice arena but it could be better with entry (maybe I went in the wrong door at the bottom of the hill). It seemed like a big cluster of people being funneled into a tiny entrance with no real sense of flow. Security wasn't too bad though, and those looooooong escalators going up to the seating area were fun! Inside the arena, the views were great from our section (215 I think). There were plenty of places to get food and drink that weren't too far away from the various stairwells. The nachos were great (love that garbage cheese). The beer was good too but why those giant cans! I'm not super fast with drinking a beer, so just sell me a normal size beer instead of a 24 oz one. The scoreboard is huuuuuuge too. And lots of information. That probably weights over 500 lbs! It was a bit cold, so be mindful of that if you're going for a hockey game. I don't remember hockey games being that chilly before. I watched the LA Kings play the Penguins here. I am a Kings fan from LA. The Kings won, and I had a great time. I sat in the first row above the Zamboni tunnel. For visiting fans, this is a great location. There is no one in front of you and your team shoots twice. The only criticism I have of the arena are the entrances. All fans are bottlenecked into two entrance areas. The lines were much longer than the lines at Crypto (Staples Center) in LA. The entrances in LA are spread around the perimeter of the arena. I am glad we arrived early because of the long lines to enter. read more

Venue is easily walkable to/from all downtown hotels. The Bad: The steepest venue seating I have ever seen. Like top of Mt Everest straight drop vertical from the 200s sections. I've seen a few concerts/shows here over the years and it's always a mostly good experience. This recent visit, I had sticker shock over both the food and drink prices and the price for parking both in the garage and the lot across the street ($50). I understand that prices are going up everywhere, but I don't think event food is ever going to be reasonable. That being said, every employee they have working seating, food, drinks, etc. is extremely personable and helpful. I had only pleasant interactions this week. The women's bathroom was out of paper towels each time I went there, the floor was pretty wet, and some of the toilets didn't flush. They did throw up a wet floor sign, though.. read more

4.5 stars. I have attended events at PPG Paints Arena (and its former names) since it opened in 2010. Most often I attend Pittsburgh Penguins games here, but I have also attended musical concerts, skating and gymnastics shows, and other events. Even the least expensive seats feel comfortable and provide excellent views of the ice and stage. The foods and beverages from the concession stands taste decent. The bathrooms are fairly clean. The merchandise (e.g., t-shirts and jerseys) in the stores often have high prices. Being downtown, this arena is within walking distance of parking lots, garages, public transportation, restaurants, hotels, and other amenities. Be aware that vehicular traffic can be very congested and time-consuming before and after events. read more

Love going to Penguins games here! They have OK food -- chicken tenders are normally a go to for us and we love the crab fries with the cheese dip as well. If you've never been you should try the crab fries! Everything is SO expensive here but that's just the reality of big arenas. Lots of parking garages in the area, but again expensive -- you're lucky if you pay less than $15 for parking, $25-30 is more realistic. Staff is always nice and tells you where your seats are and there is always someone around if you have questions or need directions. read more

A few friends and I were in town to watch our LA Kings take on the Pittsburgh Penguins from a suite. We were at Shays before the game and walked over to the arena. Looking across fifth street, the arena actually looked like a very plain industrial building from outside. I wish I would have taken a few minutes to walk to the front entrance since I know that looks nice. However, our group entered through the parking garage at the rear of the building since there is a suite only entrance there. I didn't really see much on the suite level, basically just a big loop around the arena with doors to suites, restrooms, and entry to some clubs. I didn't see any retail or much of anything else on this level. Once we got to the suite, wow it was very nice. When you walk in, there is a good size area to hang coats and hats. Then right next to that is a private bathroom only for people in the suite. The suite was spacious with a refrigerator and lots of counter space, four long wide tables in the back of the room, and several rows of comfy seats in front to watch the game close up. New food was constantly brought into the suite and there was an open bar with our own bartender. About half way through the game, the dessert cart arrived with tons of sweets to choose from. I got the chocolate mousse which was huge and came in a souvenir cup which was perfect so I could take something home as a reminder of this great night. The view and sightlines were excellent and the big scoreboard in the middle looks brand new. The bartender and food servers were great. It was a close game the whole way that went to overtime and the Pens ended up winning, but we got to see a lot of great hockey. It was great to see two of my favorite teams play in a different city, definitely an evening to remember. read more

Paid over $400 to take my family to Disney on Ice here and walked away with nothing but a ruined night. Two women seated behind us reeked of marijuana the entire show while their kids kicked our seats, hit my children's heads, and sprayed bubble wands on them nonstop. I couldn't find a single usher to help, because there weren't any around. After one of the women spilled water on me, I'd had enough. I went to guest services expecting some kind of help. Instead, I was denied a refund and offered zero compensation. I followed up with management after the fact... still nothing. $400+, four kids, and a completely avoidable nightmare. The lack of staff presence and the complete indifference from guest services is unacceptable. I won't be back. read more

A great stadium to watch a hockey game, and a pretty good place to bring your kids to hockey game! The stadium itself is awesome and anywhere is a great view! The lines were extremely minimal for anything. That's crazy because the stadium was full! I will say that the upper deck is very steep when you walk down the stairs, so make sure you are careful and if you have little ones that you go first because if they fell, they would easily stumble pretty far down ! Besides that once you get your seat in the upper deck, it's pretty comfortable! They also have a bunch of areas in the lower level that have couches where you can sit, which was great and there was a lot of people that brought their kids to that area so they could stretch and move around! The stairs scare the crap outta me and I wish it was a little easier to figure out exactly where to go go. The people that work here are all so friendly and seem to be having a great time. Arrived shortly after a concert here began because we got into a car accident during our 6 hour drive that was out of our control. It's been years since I was last here when it was known as Consol energy center. PPG Paints arena is home to the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey team and hosts other special events such as concerts and shows. Parking is available in one of the nearby lots or down at the Marriott. PPG has a bag policy in effect and is totally cashless. They recommend you have an "e ticket" on your phone to show them once you pass security screening. My family came to see the Ringling brothers circus show and were totally blown away by the new concepts. Our seats were in the "club level" area so we had cup holder for our drinks. They were great seats to see everything. Near the entrance to our section they have both food and circus souvenirs which as you would expect you pay a pricey amount for an average snack, drink, or gift. But this is where they get you. No outside food or drink is permitted. There are famous PIttsburgh eateries associated here such as the Milk Shake factory. The circus has an entirely new concept. Gone are the animals that were once a central part of the production. The "clowns" were actually stunt acrobats who doubled in both laughter and performance. There is also no solo ringmaster but a group of people singing and engaging the audience as rapid changes were made to the sets. It still appeared like a three ring circus but was planned so well that you are not trying to see everything at the same time. Of exceptional note was even though they use pyrotechs and shoot a lady out of a cannon the noise reduction is greatly reduced so as not to scare the small children. All of the acts were exceptional but my favorites were seeing the triangular tightrope walkers and the criss cross flying trapeze artists. Can't forget to mention "Barnum" the robotic dog. The show is 2 hours in length and has an intermission. We really enjoyed the show and loved how they went to great lengths to make it a wonderful production. read more

Came for a Penguins game. The arena was nicely kept and the seats are comfortable. We sat closer to the glass so these rows don't have cup holders since it is on a riser. They had great food options and most of the stalls were grab and go where they had food already prepared and you would just grab and self checkout. The short rib nachos were good and priced well for arena food. They also had the city's famous Primanti Bros as one of the food stalls. The amount of beverages and can beverage stalls were amazing. You can even get a spiked slushy. It's definitely an arena I'm glad I got to visit. read more

Came to see the Icon - Mr. Stevie Wonder! Amazing concert! Seats were previously in section 220 but tickets were upgraded to floor upon arrival to floor section C! Very blessed. We had a great time. Previous review in August 2024 Had a great experience at this venue to watch the Martin Lawrence and friends show. Seats 102 section q in the FNB club were excellent since we like a higher view to look down at the stage and the food and drink lines are shorter and similar to vip. No video or pics allowed at this venue. (I was scolded along with many other. In my defense I was not aware and quickly put my phone away.) Four canned drinks Mike's for a group of 4 adults ran us around $74.49 with tax. Parking was around $40 (yikes) and up for the event in the garage and surrounding areas for garages and lots usually charging $ 8.00. Cha Ching. read more

The arena opened in 2010 we were told. It seemed older, but was clean and the staff/volunteers were very helpful. We had a friend with a disability, and had difficulty walking. Upon entering, the ticket man asked if she wanted a wheelchair. Yes! One showed up quickly. As the staff person pushed her to the elevator and to our section, he said to let the usher know when we were leaving and he come back with the chair. And we did, and the same guy came back. So easy, and we appreciated the help, tipping the man. For the tournament basketball game there seemed to be more men's bathrooms than women's. I walked forever to find one. Where we were sitting we didn't have many food choices, but the Adobe Tacos I ordered were outstanding with lots of chicken chunks, seasoning, melted cheese, veggies, pineapple. I actually made a little mess, but had lots of napkins to clean me up. So get lots of napkins. There was also regular foods like hotdogs and nachos.The only diet drink at the stand I went to was Dr. Pepper. Yum. For parking there is a garage behind the area, or some street parking. Traveled from California for Penguins Game 5 Playoff game. My first time to this arena to watch them play. It's beautiful! Service here is beyond top notch! We sat in the Captain Morgan Section 111. Vanessa and Bradley were overseeing this area and their service went above and beyond. From tips for navigating the arena, food vendors/Pens Gear, town, Uber pick up spots... they made you feel like family. When a wheelchair was needed, they were exceptional in handling everything. The rink/arena was stunning. Sure, I miss the Igloo, but the Penguins have earned this state of the art building! Now if they'd only won the game?! read more

Our seats were comfortable and we were able to see the stage perfectly. It was the perfect temperature in there too- not too warm or too cold. read more

While in Pittsburgh last fall Wifey and I pulled off an amazing "double" by seeing a Pirates game in the afternoon and the Penguins final game of the season that same night. Neither Wifey nor I are huge hockey fans, but PPG Paints Arena is spectacular...not a bad seat in the house, great food options, great fans. We had a great night. Stopped here for my first Penguins hockey contest and with some time to kill- we elected to go here. Was able to snipe tickets last second - which I should have done the night before and saved a lot of money but that's life. The way the arena set up is kind of odd - as you can come in without tickets and get to the top before you're stopped. The arena is cool - both literally with a hockey game going on, and in the figurative sense. HOWEVER - The engineer who designed the enter/exit should be popped. There is only ONE exit to get out - so there is a massive log jam bc there's only one escalator that takes you down from the upper levels. So you wait and wait and wait and wait and EVERYONE in the upper bowl all leaves the same way. Boo. read more

First timer I was pretty pleased that you can park that close for ten dollars. Cannot do so with any other Pittsburgh sports team. Odd that people can't walk or use escalators, especially the intellect that are penguin fans. But we got to our seats about a minute game. Nice staff and wonderful ease of going to bathroom and food. My review is primarily based on Penguin games or the occasional concert. For any event, I find the upper bowl seating to be a bit uncomfortable with no drink holders and very little leg room. It's not overly surprising, but it's worth mentioning. There are also some pinch points on the corners of the hallways where traffic can become a bit of a mess. For concerts, it varies drastically based on the performer. Some have sounded amazing and some horrible - so I'm not sure if it's the building acoustics or the setup for the performers themselves. I appreciate that they focus on local beer and food where they can, but really, the AC cola contract needs to expire... please get Coca-Cola or Pepsi products. I have found the staff and security here to be pretty decent for every event as well. read more

I absolutely love PPG paints Arena. I have visited this establishment many times for an array of events. I've been to concerts, and hockey games. I've been to NCAA girls. Volleyball championships, and this past weekend, I was pleasantly surprised with a free ticket to Cirque de Sole Corteo. Because I am reviewing PPG Arena, I will avoid my thoughts on the show. But I have never been displeased or disappointed in this venue. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house, based on pricing, of course. The seats are comfortable and the staff can not be any nicer or helpful . I know that lighting usually comes with the show, but lighting for the Pens games is also phenomenal. No problem with sound. I also find it easy to navigate the building. Let's face it my ONLY problem is the cost of refreshments, but on the plus side , there is a spot for drinks right beside the arena, following the event. read more

Boys weekend reunion. Two concerts and my first time in this area. Right in the middle of everything and Duquesne U campus. . I loved this venue. I'm loving a lot about the vibe of the whole area. Got to see Iron Maiden. And that by itself was awesome. A sold out show to boot. But the boys got us all tix. We didn't get to all sit in the same section, but so what! Sound was AWESOME. Amenities: Excellent. They even have movie popcorn buckets. Very well organized. TIP: Take the free metro. It's called the T. We ubered most of the day and took the T out of the venue.... and right at 50,000 fans leaving the Steelers game. But Man! Pittsburgh got it together on public transport. read more

This review is for seeing a comedy show in the 200 level of seats. Unless you get lucky and buy tickets in the 100 hundred level or floor, don't bother. Wait for the special on Netflix. The echo is so bad I missed most of the punch lines. This is not my sole opinion. The entire section was shouting at the sound team. All three comedians also commented. They tried, made adjustments, but not much could be fixed. Five stars for fast vending of drinks with the new contactless registers. Five stars for seeing a hockey game. read more

As a former native of the region, I've been to PPG Paints arena- at the time it was Consol Energy. I've seen a few hockey games there, maybe even a concert or two, but it was so long ago that I can't review the arena based on any of that, but I was here recently to see a concert so I get to tell you all about that. The best thing about the arena is that it's in amazing shape. It's only eight years old, yes, but for all of the events taking place there, they've really done a great job of keeping it up-to-date, clean, and looking like it opened up yesterday. The arena holds roughly 18,000 hockey fans and anywhere from 15,000 to almost 20,000 music lovers during any given concert, that's a decent amount of yinzers! The seating is comfortable, even for a tall person like myself. I mean, it's not heaven, but it's definitely much more manageable than most other arenas. The seating is set up on an angle in the upper-level that at times, makes you feel like you might be falling off of a ledge if you step in the wrong direction. I imagine being drunk here is rough. And mentioning the capacity, the concert I attended was packed, but I never felt over-run with people. Plenty of food options here as well. You can get a dilly bar from the Dairy Queen in sections 105 and 234. You've got Fox's Pizza (one of my favorites), Turnpike Tavern, Smokehouse, Burgatory, and of course your standard places to get popcorn, nachos, and more. You're able to get a refillable soda if needed for under $10, but it's only one refill so FYI. Oh, and it's RC COLA, which I think is amazing. Always have, and always will. RC is Life. Sorry for the side rant... I think security here is a little off. So you walk through security first, which is great, however, you don't scan your ticket in until much later, leaving, what I feel is a lot of room for exposure. It kind of felt like there was a lot of room for free reign for people who didn't have tickets. I guess I've just not been to a venue that has their security checkpoint inside the venue. Most places I've been to does the security outside and the ticket at the door so I guess it just makes me slightly more cautious that someone, even though they got through security, who doesn't belong here gets inside. That being said, I honestly really like this arena. It's one of those, "no bad seats in the house" type of place. If you get a chance, please go. read more

The staff are all very kind and all deserve raises considering the amount of revenue they bring in. Which could be easily done by redistributing wealth from ceos and such that barely work to those actually doing skilled labor at the bottom, working long hours. Everything is completely over priced. Parking is a nightmare and many lots surrounding the arena will cost you $30 while only paying their employees $10/hr (I asked). read more
