Had a great time here watching When Harry Met Sally! The movie theater is so cute and it was great to support a local place as well. The people working here were nice and next time I'll have to check out the bar that's attached to the theater!

I love all the theme weeks! I have a membership and I adore the beer spot next door, Beirport. You can grab a drink and popcorn beforehand. They even have non alcoholic options. It's so nostalgic getting to rewatch some classics in a classic movie theater. The movie festivals are awesome too.

Bro! There needs to be more places like this. I was in Bierport one night grabbing a mix six for the hotel room after a walk around Lawrenceville and then we went downstairs to enjoy a cold beer on tap. So after enjoying the beer I went to the bathroom and on the way there I smelled popcorn. That's when I discovered there was a cinema inside. I honestly had no idea they were connected even though I had seen the sign outside many times lol So, the next day we pre-ordered tickets to see the late night showing of Clue. We came early and had a beer downstairs at Bierport and then made our way upstairs to get some popcorn and snacks and head inside to get our seats. I loved watching the movie in such a small cinema. It reminded me of this cool cinema I used to go to when I was in college. They are the best! I can't wait to go back. :) Highly Recommended!

This theatre was very nostalgic. It was the perfect theatre to see an old movie. We went to see Rope Directed by Alfred Hitchcock. The theatre was small and quaint. They were playing several Hitchcock movies through out the day and according to the schedule had several themed movie days/weeks coming up. The Row House had a full service concession stand and the staff was very friendly. We did not purchase tickets ahead of time and had no problem getting a seat. Street parking could be tricky. The theatre is located in a busy area. The seats were the only thing in theatre that appeared to need some repair/updating. Many were quite worn, but still comfortable. It was so nice to see an older theatre with good attendance. I would definitely go back to see another movie when i am in town.

A really unique experience. When our plans cancelled in Pittsburgh, we sought out the local arthouse cinema and we were not disappointed. This ended up being a really cute date night for us as we saw a late night showing of "The Princess Pride" inside this single-theater cinema. Row House is quite literally in a row house. It's slender, with maybe 30 seats total in it? It's a one-screen cinema that has a lot of personality. Could the seats be newer and more comfortable? Sure. But for the price we weren't mad. It's cozy and the moment you walk in you catch a good vibe. It felt fun even before the film started. I loved that Row House Cinema was attached to a wine shop where you could purchase items and literally walk them into the theater (they're connected). They also had a cute snack stand with all the basics, so we grabbed a popcorn and two soft drinks. I loved learning about their breadth of programming and the concessionaire gave us some free stickers. If I were local, I'd totally be a member here or buy a selection of film vouchers! This is a really cool culture stop on your tour of Pittsburgh. Long live independent and arthouse cinema!

Technically if you're having a rainy day in Pittsburgh this is where you want to be. I have had plenty of good movies to watch but cult classics on a weekly only gets better. Bierport Tap Room helps a lot. I can honestly say seating is 100% better here than AMC.

Visited RHC twice this past weekend (both a late night viewing of Clue on Friday night and a midday viewing of When Harry Met Sally... on Saturday) and both visits were so welcoming and fun! I've been to Row House a few times in the past for some fun movies, but I realized that up until this weekend I hadn't visited since well before the pandemic hit. It's a gem of a theater and is clearly run by movie-lovers, and they do so much to try to encourage people to widen their horizons of film and culture. And the themes are always so fun! Their popcorn and snacks are also delicious, and I love that they include some local treats in addition to classic movie fare. I will say that the seats are a little tight if you're a slightly larger person like myself, but I think the comfort seating options may be slightly wider. I'll try those next time, or the couch seating up in the front! Can't wait to return ASAP!

Ask the Community - Row House Cinema

What is the parking situation like around this cinema?

There is usually a good amount of street parking available on Butler Street or the residential streets connected to it. There is also a city parking lot one and a half blocks down on Butler Street.

I was (I thought) fully prepared to overpay for popcorn & bottled water to help support the theatre, but was agast at just how much they were charging. The smallest popcorn & bottle of water would have cost @$15, more than neutralizing the "deal" of $5 Tuesdays! Come-on management... let a deal truly be a deal. Now I understand why there were so many vacant seats. Which leads into my next complaint. The ticket sales clerk showed me a screen of available seats and it appeared that only 3 seats were available. Unfortunately, I pick one next to an ignorant man who talked throughout the movie. (Hope he reads this.) As it turned out, there were lots of empty seats in the theatre. At first I didn't want to move, to allow for late arrivers to get their assigned seats. I ended up staying put so as not to disturb others mid-movie. I don't understand the theatre's motive in providing incorrect seating information, cuz I don't believe that that many no-shows occurred. Even seperating the ignorant customer (not the theatre's fault) from the theatre issues, it did not prove to be a welcoming return to theatre! If you want to remain profitable, make your concession prices more reasonable and your volume will increase (for real - not like the bogus occupancy shown on your monitors).

A reporter once said that the Hollywood was Pittsburgh's only remaining single-screen movie…read moretheater. Well, they were admittedly wrong - there are others - but still, it's not uncommon to feel a sense of awe when you walk into a building like the Hollywood, which is indeed an old single-screen theater. Despite the modern day updates, there's just enough classical film memorabilia scattered about the place to make the place feel a bit like a large time capsule that was just dropped into Dormont one day. And the fact that the theater primarily runs classic films - with the occasional indie and the annual "Rocky Horror Picture Show" screening thrown in - really contributes to the place's old-time vibe. The theater itself is impressively large for being single screen, and is very well maintained and kept as clean and neat as possible (sometimes it gets a little messier in the building during bigger events at the theater, such as brunches, which is understandable). The staff are all kind and passionate about what they do there, and the seats are far more cozy than what I've experienced at most modern day theaters! I've only been here twice, but each time was a really special experience. The first time I came here was to see "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest." Never before have I experienced such an overall stunned and silent audience; I really believe the experience was a result of the combination of the film's subject matter and the atmosphere a theater like this makes. The second time I was here was for the recently hosted special feature of "The Last Unicorn" - following the screening of this childhood favorite, fans had the chance to buy merchandise related to the film and to meet Peter S. Beagle, the script writer and author of the original novel. It was a treat, to say the least; the chance to meet one of my favorite authors (and a fellow Pitt alum) at such a wonderful local attraction should speak volumes about the magic that can take place at this special old place. All in all the Hollywood is a unique place in Pittsburgh that could never replicated elsewhere. Someone could try, but it just wouldn't be the same, especially since they really do go out of their way to connect with the locals and make their screenings special. I highly recommend following the Hollywood's updates online so you don't miss an excellent screening, brunch, party or anything like that. This is one theater that's worth your time and attention, and that deserves every bit of support it can get!
