As a woman with limited knowledge, I wanted to be sure not to overpay, so I called a few places and East Coast Auto Repair offered to check my car out the next morning, which worked great for me. (I was right about the high quote from the dealership by almost $400.) I asked the person who greeted me at the shop if they had time to complete a thorough check of the car while they had it for my brakes and they did. When completed, their review included the work on the brakes and only the usual maintenance type things with no pressure for any additional, or possible unnecessary work. In fact, they appreciated my need to control my expenses and made suggestions on how I could get the most out of my car. The people working there were polite, knowledgeable and honest. They deserve their high ratings and I am happy to be able to have found this exceptional auto repair shop close to my new home. I highly recommend them.

At that point I could choose to have it fixed or call someone to tow it away. I was expecting a failed transmission and a bill running into the $1000s. On the NEXT DAY they surprised me and called to say they looked at the car and it was not a failed transmission (which I thought it was) but a broken front axle. $565... did I want it repaired? (yes). It was fixed before noon on Thursday. It is very rare to get a company to do the right thing every step of the way. These guys did it even quicker than initially quoted. They clearly explained the work needed..in my case a ck engine light was flashing on my daughters 2014 Nissan Pathfinder and while suspecting the catalytic converter they suggested a tuneup first hoping that would solve the problem w/o having to replace the converter. A week, 6 spark plugs, 6 ignition coils & $2200 later the ck engine light came back on (something they told me could happen) and I had to have the cat. converter replaced anyway... which I had done @ another shop closer to home that specializes in that type work. No doubt the plugs & coils needed replacing but I just thought $2200 for a tuneup was way too expensive...the garage that ultimately replaced the converter confirmed my thinking telling me I overpaid by about $500 for the tuneup. In summary if you're in a pinch like I was and can't shop around, Two Guys Garage can certainly be trusted to do quality and timely work... just be sure to bring your checkbook cause it's gonna cost ya.

I slid outa there and brought it to a recommended business in Methuen, who inspected my truck and made all necessary repairs for about HALF the cost. Ya see, I didn't NEED a new transmission. What if I was a little old lady with no money?

I will just state facts, please draw your own conclusions. My Prius suddenly began making a…read moremetallic noise which was most evident at about 15 mph and especially when turning at that speed. It sounded like it was coming from under the car. Because it seemed speed dependent, i feared a transmission issue. I called a local transmission shop, and they wanted $150 to diagnose the problem. AAMCO offered free diagnosis, so I brought it into them. I arrived at 8AM and Jose politely told me that I needed to leave it all day and that he would contact me in the early afternoon with more information. I heard nothing so i called them at 330PM and was told that they were looking at it at that moment and would call when they knew more. I asked if they heard the sound that I was hearing, and they confirmed the noise. At 455 (they close at 5PM) Jose called and told me they had not yet identified the problem, but the best guess was that it was either the "front differential, the flywheel or both". Jose said they needed to "begin removing panels" and "get their hands dirty" and that if they were to proceed I would need to pay $300 for two hours of labor. One would be for the diagnosis and the other would be credited to me if i got the repair completed by AAMCO. I asked if i could simply come get the car but was told it was "taken apart" and they would need some time in the morning to "put it back together". I told him I would contact him in the morning and let him know how I wanted to proceed. I was unable to make arrangements the following day to be without my car so I showed up at the shop at 7:55 the following morning. My car was in one of the repair bays, on the ground (all the other cars inside were raised above the ground). Jose approached me hurriedly as I arrived and said "I hope you are not here to pick up your car". I told him I had no choice and that I would need to wait for it to be "put back together". He stormed away and reappeared about 1 minute later and told me the car was in front of the shop and I could take it. Since he wanted to charge me $300 to complete the diagnosis, I decided to take it to my local mechanic (who does not do transmission work) and get him to diagnose it (he charges a flat $150/hr for diagnosis time). About 10 minutes after looking at it he told me a muffler clamp had failed, and the muffler and tailpipe assembly was hanging and rattling around. This had also caused a heat shield to pull away from the undercarriage. He welded the clamp back in place and used some large washers to resecure the heat shield. The total cost of the diagnosis, welding, and heat shield repair was $175. The noise is now completely gone

Not that my issue was too complicated, but the owner was just lazy and quite rude in terms of helping me after I drove 10 miles to get down there for his appointment which he sent repeated automated reminders and never bothered to return my essential voicemail messages either. I was totally accurate with my description of the problem and I was able to duplicate it right in his parking lot. But because he had an attitude and fear of his own capabilities in terms of diagnosing and identifying the exact problem he wasted half my day having me come down there for nothing. I'll probably have to fix it myself, as usual, since most mechanics these days are all equally lazy and frankly stupid, unless they can rip you off totally, then they may be willing to try. Very frustrating and disappointing experience with this Tewksbury-located shop. I would NOT recommend them to anyone.
