Great studio to get a workout on with positive reinforcement and teachers! It's all about who is teaching you, the environment you're in, and mainly... how you treat the class you take! I've been going to Power Studios for several months for 3 main classes: Cardio Sweat Party, Kick Hopping, and Sexifit. The instructors are a blast and really motivated and hard working. No BS. The girls (and guys) who participate are very into the workout as well. I cannot say for the other classes but for the three: 1. Cardio Sweat Party is strictly cardio based dance and fitness moves that are nonstop but does not mean you can't stop for a breath and a sip of water. How you push yourself is how much of an experience you'll have in that class. 2. Kick-hopping incorporates dance, boxing, and fitness. Your body will ache for a couple of days, but it's worth it! You will have to partner with a fellow attendee for the boxing part of the workout. 3. Sexifit is a great morning class that is a workout and a dance class at the end. You learn a routine. Very fun and small group. Overall this gym is a great place to sweat with a ton of young professional women (and one-two guys if any). No judgements. And they give freebees outside of the class too. I found Power Studios on Groupon and LOVE these classes. I've seen Power Pilates signs and ads for years, but didn't know they had other types Of classes too. The classes are all taught by consummate professionals who do the class with you and use their depth of knowledge to sneak in stretches throughout the class while correcting your form to be sure you're doing everything properly. They do this in a positive & helpful way vs. shouting commands (this is how it's done!). I've taken the following classes - Cardio Sweat Party, Movenze, Dynamic Pilates, Total Body Burn, Afternoon Barre Crawl (love this name...) and Box & Burn. Every class was fantastic. Different spin on all of the usual moves in regular gym classes. The Studio in Midtown East - Small unassuming elevator building on 3rd Ave. and 55th with quick easy in and out access. Friendly efficient check in desk with water, products, etc. 2 nice bathrooms on the 5th floor with all of the amenities - soap, paper towels, coat/bag hooks, full length mirror Cubbies for your stuff inside the classroom Fitness studio in smaller in size, but never over-crowded in my experience. Night classes fill up, Daytime classes are smaller groups - sometimes just a few people and never cancelled due to low attendance. An indication of how well the place is run. Plenty of new equipment (small - no big bars or weights to hassle with!) to use during class (hand weights, blocks, balls, mats, boxing gloves, sliders, etc.) Small branded face towels to use for class This studio is a hidden and possibly secret gem in the keep in shape business in NYC. It's a small sleek place with a great staff. Bottom line - it's easy to workout here and the bonus is you'll learn a TON of new techniques and don't need to worry about a novice instructor that doesn't understand the effect of a move on your body. They clearly take pride in teaching. I love this place. I thank them for winning me back to classes! read more

The studio was clean and check in was easy. They gave me a little gift for being a first time client; water bottle w/the logo and a Pilates dvd. Nice touch! I took the VBarre class, which was awesome. I have taken many barre classes and this was the first to use a slide bar. Very fun and you need to really work isolate and stabilize. I was signed up for the 2pm 90's class this afternoon. After 20 minutes of waiting, we all finally left when the instructor never showed. I spoke to another girl in the class and she mentioned that instructor lateness is a pattern at this studio. I am not sure if it is miscommunication or what the issue is, but how unprofessional and what a waste of time! Power Studios needs to get their act together. The only reason I am giving the studio one star is because the Receptionist was very helpful and professional in dealing with the incident today. I felt bad for her as it was her first day on the job and she was trying to track down the instructor to no avail. read more

Whatever you do, DO NOT BECOME A MEMBER of Power studios. They treat members like dirt and there is absolutely no loyalty to members. It's such a shame because my favourite trainer is at this studio, but unfortunately this is let down by terrible management. The manager/owner is not available to talk to anyone ever, the front desk just shuffle you from one person to the next. Classes are frequently cancelled last minute, providing no compensation to unlimited members who turned up, but they will charge you a $20 cancellation fee if you have a last minute emergency (which was not part of the original sign up). *note as per Power Studios comment about instructor cancellations, a free class provides NO BENEFIT TO AN UNLIMITED MEMBER. Why this company struggles to understand this is beyond me. Unlimited members have unlimited classes. My story is so much longer, with so much mistreatment. Do yourself a favour and overlook this place. read more

Just yesterday, I registered with & took my first class at Power Studios. When I called with questions, the associates were super helpful. When I arrived at the studio, the gentleman at the desk was welcoming and helpful. The studio is super convenient to 59/lex. I took the Doonya class with Aparna. What a blast! It was a fun Indian dance cardio class. I'm no trained dancer at all... and I picked up most of the moves as did most of the newbies in class. The studio is clean, the bathrooms are well appointed and provide ample space to change, and there is designated space in the classroom for your belongings. My only critique would be the funny shape of the classroom space. I know it's a NYC building that's not built as a studio, so the teacher does a great job of figuring it out. But I'd love to see mirrors extend all the way to the windows in the classroom space. I'll definitely be returning for Aparna's class and I'm interested to try some of the other classes on offer. So glad I found this space as another fitness option in my week. read more

I gave up my NYSC gym membership a few months ago and was looking for some classes to change up my routine (I have a membership at a specialized studio). I came across a groupon and decided to give this place a try. There's a variety of cardio classes (cardio kickboxing, dance fusion), dance, barre, pilates classes. I've tried kickhopping and pilates mat class so far and was happy with both. The instructors are nice and the classes were decently small in size - not overcrowded like big box gym classes. Instructors also provide feedback as if in small group training classes. There's not much by way of locker room/ shower facilities just a couple bathrooms with showers. There are lockers or cubbies in the classroom. Single classes seem well priced compared to many studios at $22 per class. read more

Worst dance instructor named Devin Pullins. I signed up on ClassPass for his music video class. He acted as he was a diva on a video shoot except he wasn't. Completely rude and discouraging. He would yell at us for doing it wrong and he said this is not an exercise class this is a dance class and if you can't keep up then leave. So I did, first time I ever left a class early. It was my first class and last class. Do not go to Devin's class. read more

Power indeed, you will certainly be surprised in how much you have in you. I attended the Cardio Dance class with Michele Gordon and I am sore all over which is a good sign of an intense workout. Definitely the best way to have a heart pumping sweaty fun time to burn. Enjoyed it and would recommend to all! read more

I stumbled upon Power Studios during my brief love affair with ClassPass (I've converted to FitReserve). It's a basic, no frills workout studio with instructors that teach a solid variety of classes. The cost for the classes are relatively cheap if you have ClassPass or FitReserve. Purchased through Power Studios, the classes are $25 each. I bought classes independently because I'm limited to 4 classes each month with the fitness memberships and usually attend 1-2 classes a week, so sometimes I want 2-3 extra about the 4 maximum. What I really enjoy about the classes is: 1) there is a range of fitness abilities, so you don't feel self conscious about taking breaks, not quite getting the movements, exercises, etc.; 2) the instructors do an excellent job of facilitating a fun, judgment-free environment, that's still motivating; 3) late arrivals are never turned away (I am habitually late for everything and rushing to class and getting in 20 minutes late and not being turned away, is not something you'll get everywhere); and 4) there is almost always availability, so I can book last minute and still get into a class. So far I've tried a bunch of classes. Most of the classes were great and provided excellent calories burn. My favorites are: Boot Blast (basically a HIIT class; great, knowledgeable instructor, excellent music selection; burned about 450-475 calories) Cardio Kickboxing (you move the entire class; God bless my fundamental lack of coordination, but I made it through; the instructor does every single move with you to help keep the energy up, etc; burned about 500-525 calories) CheerFIT (reminded me of my cheerleading days in high school; the instructor is super nice and is high energy -- exactly what you'd expect; the movements are basic and relatively easy to follow; it's one of those class where you don't realize how hard you're working because you're having tons of fun; burned about 350-375 calories) Wukkout (this class is sooo much fun and another class that makes you forget that you're working out; the music is also great, varying tempos and the choreography is also varied and easy to follow; burned about 275-300 calories). Drawbacks: If you pay out of pocket, the classes are a tab bit expensive, so I'd generally recommend sticking to the fitness memberships for this studio. Also, the studio is a bit blah/no frills and minimal natural light. Technically, the studio has showers (shared with Power Pilates) and they are a decent size and provide adequate privacy. But if you take a morning class and need to go to work afterward, you ought to be vigilant about getting upstairs to get in line for the showers. It can be a 15-25 minute wait before you get *into* the shower, so it may be necessary to plan accordingly. Overall, Power Studios offers fun classes and awesome instructors. read more

The studio gets kudos for having interesting classes. Variations on barre, kickboxing, and pilates. The studio also appears pretty clean. The one drawback: the courses, while interesting, aren't terribly hard. If you're an intense exerciser, you may find your traditional spinning/ Physique/Equinox classes to be a better gig. read more

Best studio for cardio kickboxing! They also have classes like cheer, dance, etc. The classes are intimate, fun and challenging (love the freestyle dance party at the end of class!). The staff is welcoming and accommodating, the instructors are motivating and super friendly. Two showers on the sixth floor, and bathrooms on each floor. Cubbies are inside the studio. My review isn't necessarily about the studio as a whole as much as it is about the Hot Ass and Abs class. Pro: -The playlist was mostly Beyonce Cons: -The instructor. I was really concerned because all class there were maybe three form adjustments for incorrect form and movements. At best, this means a person won't get the results. At worse, this can lead to injury. -The moves felt pretty basic. This is purely my opinion but if I'm going to an Ass and Abs class, I really expect to feel some serious burn in both. Hell I'll settle for one but that just wasn't the case here. -Cleanliness. The mats were torn up, old and had clearly seen better days. I'm all for using mats as long as possible but these were past expiration date. They were so scuffed that the cleaning spray was absorbed and it was impossible to actually sanitize the mats. I was counting down to shower time the entire class and I have a fairly high threshold for these sorts of things. -The energy. Maybe it was because it was 7:30 am on a Monday but there was NO energy coming from the instructor or the other class goers. It was Beyonce! The class advertises body shaking! Try this if you want but there are SO many better options in NYC for female body oriented classes (look up Beebe's Buttcamp or ANY class at Hourglass Fitness if you need a suggestion). You're better off skipping this. read more

This was a great workout class. The instructor was very motivational, and the class was super upbeat. The class had a mixture of body combat-esque moves such as air punching and hitting, in addition to ab combinations and squads. This is one of the more intense / great workouts I've had on classpass,and was also super fun! read more

I took the Kick-Hopping class with Leo Wright through a ClassPass and I absolutely loved it! The studio is very cool with great amenities. The instructor was motivational and even inspirational. The music was awesome and really helped make the workout more fun! I can't wait to go back! read more

Got a groupon here, staff and instructor seem nice. Have only taken assenvy and look forward to trying their barre classes. In terms of the butt barre moves used here they were pretty basic. I did not feel the usual burn you get from a barre class. I think it's a good basic introduction to some barre moves if you're just beginning but if you're kinda a barre snob like me (physique 57, flybarre, barre3, pure barre, etc.) it doesn't come close. Overall my main complaint is that their were way too many people in the class. I couldn't fully concentrate on extending my legs from one side to the other because I was in genuine fear of being kicked in the face. I would suggest they allow less people in a class. read more

I've been taking yoga classes with Christina - she's amazing! Difficulty is usually tailored to who's in the class, and she really takes the time to get to know you and push you. Really cares about her students and very passionate about yoga. Class with her always puts a smile on my face! She's always super upbeat and I always leave feeling like I've improved. read more

I took Cardio Bikini Blast with Laura Ann. She was a great instructor, and the class itself reminded me a bit of Bari (I'm a Bari fanatic) but much less challenging. That said, I feel like I got a decent workout. The facility is clean, as are the showers, and I'd definitely come back again! read more

Had a great Kick-hopping class with Leo Wright here! Extremely inspirational and he really pushed you to try your absolute hardest. Great mix of exercises too, from kickboxing moves to using bands for strength training and ending the class with a fun dance (I don't even like dancing but it was a really positive end to a tiring hour). read more

I was looking for a barre class for Sunday morning that was easily accessible and chose this studio via Class Pass on a whim. I took Barre Via with Joanna -- and the class was great! My muscles burned and I very much appreciated that the instructor modeled the moves and corrected form. I have tried many barre classes and this was one of my favorites because we used resistance bands and balls to enhance the workout! I would definitely attend again. read more

Got a groupon for this and tried out a variety of classes. Had a BLAST in all. I really liked Ebony Fowlers class because you work up a good sweat and has alot of kickboxing moves. The yoga was really cool too. I also did dance cardio and insanity- awesome! I wish I had bought more groupons! read more
