I can only conclude that I went on an off night. I went to a concert at YouTube Theater this past week and the poutine options were sounding great from Poutine Brothers. The line was long but the prospect of gooey goodness was worth it. After placing my $29 order for a bottle of water and the beef brisket poutine, it didn't look amazing but looks can be deceiving. Sadly, the looks represented properly the dish. I don't know what was going on, but every element was terrible. He was super friendly and accommodating with us on the phone when we took literally forever to find the back alley where we were supposed to pick up our food! Before I get into the food, I just wanted to make clear that they do have a schedule on their website which lists where and when they'll be serving up their amazing food. When we went on a Wednesday, they happened to be operating out of a shared kitchen in Culver City, so if directions are unclear or if you don't see their truck, call them for directions on how to pick up your order! I've wanted to try this delicacy from up North for a while now, and I'm so glad that I got to try it from Poutine Brothers! I finally got over to trying Poutine Brothers, it's been on my list for so long. I've never had poutine, but always wanted to try this Canadian delight. I ordered the Vegan Classic with Ketchup Chips. And the chips ABSOLUTELY sold me! They're sooo good! The whole bag tasted like fries and ketchup and I'm not mad it. These greasy ketchup chips were a real, tasty surprise. Very yummy! And would totally be back for these! The Vegan Classic was cool. It honestly wasn't anything mind blowing. My favorites were the Vegan Daiya Cheese and the fries. The gravy wasn't my favorite, it definitely wasn't as thick as non-vegan gravy, so I wasn't a fan and the chives didn't do anything for me. I first discovered this magical concoction at a yelp event at Madame Toussads. As a picky American, I was hesitant to try the loaded fries because who puts gravy on fries? The answer is Canadians and they are geniuses. What was just a free sample at an event has turned into a full blown obsession with Poutine Brothers. I first had poutine on a trip the British Columbia in 2018 and then again in 2019. I've never had it outside of Canada but I was excited to try it here, especially since they had a variety of options. I chose the fried chicken and my vegetarian boyfriend tried the cauliflower. When the food first arrived, it didn't look like a lot of food but by the last few bites I was stuffed. The food was good but I felt like the dish could have used a bit more gravy as some of the fries were a little dry. I have to disclose that I am a lover of poutine as made in Quebec. I like pure poutine. French fries, cheddar curds, and vegetarian gravy sauce. No meats added. The best poutine is made by the Quebec based Saint Hubert fast food chicken restaurant. I buy their sauce in the supermarket in Montreal and I bring it home to Los Angeles. The US cheese curds are not the same as in Quebec; but these are fine. As far as the Poutine Brothers, It's the best or only poutine option in LA. Their packaging of the components individually is brilliant because it's the only way you have a chance of bringing it home and creating something edible out of it. Finding the place on Venice Blvd. is a little awkward. It's not a parked food truck. It's an unmarked commercial kitchen. You have to order on line, park and walk into the alley, or park in the alley, and wait for the guy to bring it out to you. The process is OK it's just awkward. The guy that came out and brought me my order was very nice, the packaging is excellent. For people who never had poutine, it's incredibly filling. Probably 1300 empty calories for the regular cheese only poutine. But it's so good. The poutine brothers french fries are excellent with the skin on. I'm used to skinny fries but these were excellent. It would be nice if they gave a little bit more sauce. The sauce has a little bit more pepper than I'm used to experiencing. 10% more cheese and sauce would make it a little bit nicer. It's $10 for the original cheese poutine. So I was driving on the freeway and saw this truck! Bf and I got excited, checked the website, and saved it on Yelp. On the way back home, we decided to stop here on the way back. It was a little confusing because we were already at the back door of the kitchen so we called to place and order but the chef (Maria?) came out to take our order and told all about her special recipes with different spices and flavors so that made us very excited to try it!
