After reading a great article about the owner of Pourman's, I really wanted to like this place. When my friends and I walked in, literally not one of the staff members looked at us or said hello. I understand that happening if the bar is super busy, but there were only a couple people sitting at the bar. We walked through the whole bar, to their back patio, sat at the bar for a few minutes and then finally sat at one of their tables, before anyone even acknowledged we were there. After that, the owner finally took care of us, and he was super friendly and great. I am not completely sold on the whole pour your own beer thing. The reason I go to bars is so that someone else can pour and make my drinks. But it is somehting different, and their prices are comparable to bars in the area. I do like the decor, with the dark wood and vintage vibe. I love the bar/tables made out of pennies. Also the pretzels they give you while you drink are sooo good! I might come back just for those. Overall I'm glad I tried this place, and I might come back if that's where my friends wanted to go, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Incredibly upbeat music, great drinks and even greater staff. It's my first time in Milwaukee from New York and I'm already blown away!

We got lucky and had bar seats open up after about 5 minutes which allowed us to grab cocktails and relax. After a bit we ordered some Brussel sprouts as an appetitizer and before they could show up our table opened up. My wife chose the 2 piece cod fry with chips while I opted for the perch fry with fries. Everything was spectacular. The bartenders were jumping around each other to keep people happy at the bar and the rest of the staff get people's bellies filled with food. If you go keep in mind there are no reservations and will probably be a wait, but they will take great care of you and serve you some awesome fish!

I surprisingly don't have many options in my "MKE - Fish Fry" collection that are near downtown, but Swinging Door Exchange was one of them. I was pressed for time, so I placed a to go order rather than dining in. I got the combo fish fry (two pieces of cod, two pieces of perch, and three fried shrimp) with potato pancakes. I was also very easily talked into the half rack rib appetizer. The ribs were good, even though I prefer sauce that's more sweet and smokey. Their sauce was on the tangy side with a tease of spice that really only became noticeable when the majority of the half rack was gone. If I were in the mood for ribs as my main meal, I'd consider getting theirs as an entree. The two potato pancakes weren't homemade; instead, they were premade hash brown patties that some other restaurants also serve with their fish frys. These were perfectly acceptable in lieu of homemade pancakes. The cod tasted great, but the breading didn't hold up very well. Either the fish itself was too wet or the two block walk back to my car allowed for condensation to wreck it or possibly both. The perch was not yellow lake perch but probably something like pike perch. Even though both kinds of fish and the shrimp were all good sized portions, $29 feels like a lot. I wouldn't say no to it, though, if I were dining in next time and avoid the extra cost of their takeout fee. Shout-out to the bartenders working that night. The bar area was absolutely packed, but both of the ones I talked to about placing my order were friendly and helpful even with being super busy.

Waitress didn't know details of a featured menu item - The Grand Slam bloody mary - and even though we told the staff we came here from San Diego for one of the big bloody mary meals they offer, the waitress DOWNsold us to get the tiny offering pictured here. This was a huge disappointment and I'm quite frustrated that we were so looking forward to a fun treat as our dinner and ended up with a small snack and will have to go get dinner elsewhere. Giving 2 stars because the Spotted Cow beer was amazing as always and the snack food we did eat was delightful even though the portion was a tremendous letdown.

My kiddo got a lemonade. For appetizers we got the pretzel sticks, and the curds with marinara and ranch. So good! Both were well seasoned and delicious. For meals, I got the chicken Caesar salad wrap, with fries. It was good, creamy, and I had crispy chicken replace the grilled. The fries were good. My partner got the Cajun Mac and cheese with chicken and the waitress suggested a side of fries, he said it was very good. My child got the pepperoni pizza, they have a 12inch pizza and it was enjoyed! Definitely recommend for dinner when you're about to go to a show or if you're in the area!

The other components of the dish included fried bangers (sausages), black & white pudding (blood sausage & pork), baked beans, sauteed mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, bacon, and another small puck of sausage, as well as brown bread and butter. It was a great value with some items I liked and some I didn't due to personal preference, not because anything wasn't prepared well, as it all appeared to be cooked properly. My girlfriend ordered the Celtic Grilled Cheese with bacon, arugula, aged white cheddar, aioli, grilled tomatoes on toasted sourdough. Her sandwich looked amazing, and I regret not asking for a bite. That may be a future order for me. She loved it! I also ordered the County Clare Bloody Mary, which is made with their own seasoning blend and served with a chaser of Harp beer. They asked me how spicy I wanted it, and I said medium, which I think they nailed. This was one of the best Bloodies I've had in town! Overall, a nice brunch experience with good service and a great ambience. I do want to return to try more brunch items.

The atmosphere and decor are warm, moody, and cozy as one would expect from a British pub. Prices are decent for the Brady area. The scotch eggs were good. Small and delicious bites of protein goodness. My favorite thing was the fish fry/fish and chips. The fish was the best part because it was flaky with a light, crispy batter. Now there are two things that didn't go well. The first is the Lancashire hotpot. Traditional ones are supposed to have thin potatoes all covered over the top. This one only had a few on the side. See the picture below. The menu even said "topped with potatoes." The stew itself just tasted like ground beef in beef broth. It was sad. Service was not good. Our server never checked on us the whole night after taking our order. We couldn't get any drink refills and had to flag down a different server to close out our order. I generally enjoy British food and will come back to give them another chance. I would order different things next time, though.
