Pourman's is hands down my favorite bar in Milwaukee. Their music is always the best mix of pop, reggae, hip hop, and rnb, their hookahs are the best in the city at great prices ($25) and the cocktails are fabulous. Not a big beer or wine bar. The bartenders have always always been very prompt, kind, and delightful to me. Try their popsicle drink!! Small hipster-ish, dive-y bar on Water st. The bar stands out among the rest of the bars on this street. It gives off a antique-y, prohibition era vibe, although they are lacking a bit of defining decor for me to actually call it that. They had a cool touch-screen beer tap in the front 3 tables, which were full when I went so I unfortunately did not get to try them...(those things were what caught my eye and what made me interested in going in) Apparently you choose you beer and how many oz you want and it dispenses it out for you...pretty neat idea. The owner (nice man) gave us drink specials...highball glass w/ whiskey & ginger for $5. Not bad...I'd call them $5 rails? Our group just chatted in the back and tossed up the drinks. After reading a great article about the owner of Pourman's, I really wanted to like this place. When my friends and I walked in, literally not one of the staff members looked at us or said hello. I understand that happening if the bar is super busy, but there were only a couple people sitting at the bar. We walked through the whole bar, to their back patio, sat at the bar for a few minutes and then finally sat at one of their tables, before anyone even acknowledged we were there. After that, the owner finally took care of us, and he was super friendly and great. I am not completely sold on the whole pour your own beer thing. The reason I go to bars is so that someone else can pour and make my drinks. But it is somehting different, and their prices are comparable to bars in the area. I do like the decor, with the dark wood and vintage vibe. I love the bar/tables made out of pennies. Also the pretzels they give you while you drink are sooo good! I might come back just for those. Overall I'm glad I tried this place, and I might come back if that's where my friends wanted to go, but it wouldn't be my first choice. read more

I was visiting Milwaukee when I came across Pourman's. Ben was very welcoming. The building was awesome. The drinks were a great price and wonderful. Ben made me a list of places to visit and neighborhoods to check out since I had came for a job interview and was looking to move. It gave me a lot of insight of Milwaukee. I was really looking for local advice. I even revisited later that week so celebrate the end of my successful Wisconsin trip with more great conversation and drinks. Awesome place. I like the bar, and it is somewhat fun to pour your own beer. I, like the owner, enjoyed table top taps during my time living in Europe. Although it can be somewhat stressful since you pay for everything that comes out of the tap. If the keg was recently switched over, like it was for us, you may spend some time waiting for that potential beer to form from foam. Here is the skinny. You pay $0.32 per oz. for Spotted Cow, Summer Shandy, or Blue Moon. It is $0.35 for Pilsner Urquell. Think of a name for your drinking table before you get there to avoid looking like a deer in headlights when the server asks you to make one up on the spot. Then you just pay for what you pour, man. Free pretzels, and interesting staff are other positives. There are 3 tables with the taps. The rest of the remodeled Fitzgibbons Pub is very nice. Good bar seating, and a nice lounge area in the back. The color scheme is a little dark, but not in a bad way. I will go back but I will probably skip the pour your own beer. Unless a PYOB happy hour appears I will just leave it to the bartender. Side note; I heard talk of outdoor seating in the back coming soon. read more

Been here twice now and really enjoy it. First time, came for a date and sat at the bar. Ben, the owner, was behind the bar and was very friendly. Pretty attentive but could be better at scanning the crowd for when empty glasses are present. Second time, I came with three girlfriends and we tried out the tapper table. I agree with the other review that you should have a good team name ahead of time or have a good inside joke to run with on the spot. We wasted like four minutes trying to figure out what to name ourselves. We're special like that. I don't drink beer so I'm usually saddened by a small cider selection, I wish they'd have more than Strongbow but at least it's not like Woodchuck or something undrinkable. Also sad that the Strongbow is $6 instead of the usual $5 I see it for on North or Brady. My friends had a fun / hard / interesting time pouring beer. Maybe ask for a demo if you've never bartended - otherwise you may end up with quite a bit of foam and have to sit and wait to drink. Love the decorations, woodwork, mirrors, atmosphere, free pretzels brought to the table, and the ability to have some drinks without summoning the bartender / server constantly. Ended up at $35 for 64 ounces, not a bad deal. Seems out of place wedged between BW3 and Coyote Ugly but that only makes this new hang out on Water feel more special as a lot of people make the mistake of just walking right by. read more

This place is the worst ever. The club owner and the bouncer said my BODY was inappropriate. He said he didn't want that image within his club. He then continued and said to go back to burleigh because my ass was too big. Calling me a hoodrat and what not. Only if these fools knew that I am a Marquette Graduate. Far from a hoodrat. Then he switched it up and said that I was showing too much that's why I couldn't get in. Mind you I had a full length body suit on. That was not revealing. It was really a relaxed outfit. In addition people who had the same thing as I was getting in however who's body was built different. People who were far less attractive (as told by bystanders) were getting in and women who had on men's jerseys and cut off jeans were all getting in. Then you had guys who seemed to have just rolled outta bed get in as well. So I believe the dress code had nothing to do with it. Before the Pourman's staff have something to say about my geographical location, the amount of education I currently posses, or the amount of curves or large ass I have. Favorite bar on Water, bar none (lol puns.) Clean, organized bar with fantastic staff and a very welcoming atmosphere fostered by the bartenders, owner, and patrons alike. Small things make me appreciate businesses like this. I specifically remember (even though I was intoxicated) a bartender going out of his way to go into storage somewhere outside of the bar to get a drink I asked for that wasn't on hand. The bartenders and the owner make an effort to remember their customers and make them feel welcome. Unlike most establishments in Milwaukee, this bar doesn't carry a "specific" group of patrons. From hipsters with a superior taste in music than you or I, to middle-aged executives who look weird in their new Porsche, to your typical young college kids, this bar'll have em all - and its fantastic. I like the story of this place and I wish it nothing but success. I'll continue to be a happy patron by getting drinks and shooting the shit with friends on their back patio. My friends and I spent our Friday evening at Pourmans and had a blast! My friend knew the DJ, Lauren, (who was amazing btw) and apparently is a regular here so I was not disappointed. While the bar is busy, I almost always was able to get a drink with minimal wait times. The space is a little small, so claustrophobics beware, but there was lots of seating. We ordered a blueberry hookah and lemonade vodkas. I was a little hurt at the $9 per drink price tag, but they are not stingy with their liquor so four drinks had me crooning my love for everyone in the bar, lol. I would definitely recommend this spot for someone looking for a hip but chill atmosphere! read more

This place is pretty cool. It is the first really fun/packed bar that I went to in Milwaukee. I would recommend getting there on the early side (9:30 - 10) if you are going on the weekend and want to avoid the line. The inside of the bar is super small, but there is a covered patio in the back which is great! There was a DJ back there the night that I visited, and it was super fun to just hang out and dance back there. The drinks were affordable, but pretty weak on the first pour. I had to ask the bartender to pour a little more alcohol into my drink, and he did without an issue, which was nice. This is more laid back than Mc Gilly Cuddy's which is right around the corner. I would recommend at least making a pit stop here to see the booths with the taps, if nothing else! read more

Then they're like you guys I have to buy another one to make the 10 minimum for there credit limit. I have never heard of this place, until we met friends here about a week ago. It's a super cute oasis amongst the douche-muck of Water St. The space is small, too skinny for much of a crowd to comfortably gather. If we had been staying long, the booths are perfectly comfortable for 4, could probably smash 6 very friendly pals into. They have a setup where you can pour your own drafts (from about 4 choices) from each booth, which is pretty cool. I have never seen such an interesting self-serve choice before. They've got a good selection of tap beers, as well as interesting cocktails. Prices are a bit high, but that's probably because I'm a cheap old lady. The bartender was extremely friendly, someone who would be great to chat with if you sat at the bar on a quieter night. Even when it started to get busy, he was attentive, handing over drinks quickly. He even messaged me on facebook right away when I left with the wrong credit card. Which would have been so helpful if I had checked my facebook messages from non-friends right away (sadly, I did not). Which brings me to the less desirable part of my experience here. Another bartender came in sometime when we were there, and when I asked to close my tab, she handed me a bill which seemed to be the right amount, I signed it and left with my card. It was not my card. In the dark bar, rushing to go, I hadn't looked to see if I received the right card. That responsibility is on my, but I have never been given the wrong card before. I realized the mistake the next morning before leaving the state for the weekend, and left a voicemail at the bar. No one returned my call. When I posted a passive aggressive message on their facebook wall, the owner Ben replied with a very nice message, but was honestly not super helpful. I had already cancelled my card and ordered a new one. I might head back if I'm forced to be on Water St for some reason, and I appreciate the efforts that were made. But I would hope that the bartenders will have been instructed not to return a dude's credit card to a girl, and if they do, to effing return the customer's call. read more

Would have given it a 5 if there had been more tables with taps. The beer selection was pretty good. They had Squatters Rising Hop, which is a favorite of mine after visiting Park City, Utah. Noisy but fun bar. Would definitely go there again on my next trip to Milwaukee. Just going to go earlier to get a table. read more

Decided to review this place after out third visit. What keeps bringing us back? Great service with a smile, a really nice atmosphere and an intimate sort of feeling that is rare on Water Street. It starts with the dark decor and smooth R&B music in the background. The owner, Ben, has always been there for each visit, providing friendly service. He always makes us feel that he is very happy to see us back. We have been there once on a quiet Sunday afternoon (out of curiosity), once on a Friday night, and with a large group on a Saturday night. Each time was a good time, and we had no reason to want to leave before bar close on the weekend nights. We drink mixed drinks so there was no reason to try the table taps, so I cannot review those. I also knew that there was no kitchen, so come on a full stomach. The next time we are in Milwaukee, and ready to relax after dinner, Pourman's will be our first choice. read more

The couches in the bag and dim lighting, combined with all sorts of random interesting tidbits, make it a great place for a couple drinks before heading out to other nearby establishments for some raging. Visiting from Chicago, staying at the Aloft hotel, we went out on a frigid Sunday evening in May (2 wool sweaters, wool beret and alpaca scarf) to find something fun to do within walking distance. This neighborhood is clearly a big boozing zone as there are tons of bars within a 4 block radius. Being a Sunday night, a lot of them were closed or quiet. We almost missed the Pourmans as it looks a bit dark from outside. I am glad the owner waved us in. We felt very welcomed by him and the other patrons and sat ourselves at the bar. The owner made some of the best old fashioneds we have ever tasted. He played awesome old motown music on a great sound system. A few of his friends came in and helped behind the bar and played cards at the bar and we were all singing along together to the temptations and earth wind & fire. It was a special little evening. P.S. I forgot my hand knit alpaca scarf there and the owner's fiancee is mailing it to me in Chicago... good people with a great vibe and delicious product. read more

I might be judging Pourmans a little hard. They're on water street and the neighbors aren't the best. The taps at the couple of tables in the front is cool, but the system for getting them going is onerous and if you want more beer, it's kind of annoying to get the attention of the keep. You can only do 64 ounces at a time, and with 4 people at the table, that's 4 beers. The point of pouring at your table is not getting up. Not really my cup of tea, but you might dig it. read more

What a really great addition to water street! I can only comment on one drink, but what a drink it was. I had the old fashioned, with a rhubarb simple syrup, and it honestly was one of the best I have ever had. The taps at your table are awesome, but we often find ourselves sitting at the bar chatting with the bartenders or on the back-patio weather permitting. It's the kind of place that you could roll into wearing sweats or dressed up for a cocktail before a show at the PAC. Pourman's is an oasis in the desert of Water St. bars. I was looking for a place to have an engagement party and eventually decided on Pourman's after a friend's suggestion. I had been to the bar a handful of times and liked the vibe enough to take a chance on it. The bar owner was incredibly helpful and communicative with me and my fiancee. The day of the event the bar was well-staffed, clean and welcoming. Everything went smoothly and a lot of my guests, who had never been to Pourman's before, left really impressed.
