We had a great time watching the animals hang out and peck around their spacious pen enclosure, safe from the masked onlookers who came to gawk at the majesty of farmland critters. Honestly, any interactions with cute barnyard characters is a high point to my day, so Fable gets five stars on that alone! We also loved the local farmer's market that sets up here, and even though it was close to closing for the day, we were able to browse around for a bit. I didn't buy anything, but the produce looked fresh and there were lots of other locally made goods like honey and soaps. We'll be back for sure next time when we have more time to look around at all the offerings! The local cider and scrumptious donuts were our initial mission, and they did not disappoint. The cider was juicy and tangy, and I couldn't stop drinking it for the rest of the evening once we got home. I was able to limit myself to one cider donut (brushed with cinnamon sugar - yum!), but that was so difficult! My boyfriend's mom was delighted with the cider donuts we brought home for her, too. I opted for the bi-week pick up for $235 = 8 weeks at the actual farm in Standfordville. Not knowing what to expect as I'm a complete newbie at this, I called for more info. Dave was so helpful on the phone, explaining how things works, where to park, when to come, etc. So I decided to join to try it out! When I arrived the first time, Dave was there to greet me and show me around - basically there's a sign-in sheet at the barn entrance along with a weekly newsletter. Bring your own reusable bags and also the thin plastic bags for produce (they have it there, but you can reuse the ones you get from grocery to save the planet). There's a big blackboard showing you what the share of the week is - It's the MAX amount you can take - so get all or get what's right for you. All of the produce are lay out neatly and orderly - it's really a fool-proof system and signs everywhere telling you how many you can take. There are also info on produce profile, food storage, and recipes along the back wall. They also have a section for "PYO" - pick your own! This is for your to go out to the garden and pick from the plant itself! Usually it always comprise flowers and herbs. It's only my second week, but I just LOVE how fresh the produce taste, LOVE having fresh flowers at home, and LOVE trying new recipes with vegetables we usually don't eat. It also forces me to eat more vegetables so i can clean out my fridge for the next pickup. Although I don't have any previous experience on CSA, but I do think this is as good as it gets!!

We also noticed during an after school event where food was served that a chicken walked up and ate off the same salad bowel that was being served to people. I also managed to locate the Pear trees, way behind the hay riding area. I picked Asian and Bosc pears. We went on a hay ride, which was $5 and it was rustic, bumpy, giving a sweeping view of the beautiful orchard grounds. Back in the main area, we had lunch. By this time, lines were pretty long, so we divided and conquered, as well as found a place to sit. I shared Pork Ribs and Fries, which were both very tasty. The Ribs were delightfully tender and well seasoned. Fries were perfectly crispy. One draw back was that most everything at the store and most lunch items were quite expensive. Overall, there were great vibes, and I really enjoyed the views at the farm, apple / pear picking, as well as the hay ride.
