If there were negative stars, I would use that rating. Unless you cash and carry from this store, you'll have a nightmare of a time actually getting what you purchased delivered. The customer service is a joke and getting furniture from them is a nothing short of a debacle...of course, they manage to get the payment part right without a problem. Purchased a dining room table and chairs, living room couch, chair, coffee table and media center and all these items were delayed in their delivery...the delivery company was rude and unorganized...set up a delivery time, we changed plans to be home to receive the furniture, then changed the time on us despite our telling them we would not be there. They showed up and found no one home. Big surprise...then they delievered the chairs to the billing address. I had to have a friend with a truck pick them up and bring them to the house ( 4 very large boxes) because I was told by Pottery Barn that if UPS picked it up, they would have to deliver it back to the store and they would have to redeliver it...huh? I live in Lodi and the store is in Monterey.. 3 hours away. Still waiting on my media center ( it's now been a month) and I'm being told by Pottery Barn they don't know what to say at this point. They changed distributors and have no idea where it is...when it will be delivered and can't get in touch with the distributor because they don't have their phone lines set up??? What the hell? Never heard of such a thing. I called again this morning looking for information..after being put on hold for 15 minutes. I'm told they will call me back. I'm not holding my breath.... Too bad because the furniture is absolutely beautiful...but not worth the aggravation. I'll go to Crate and Barrel next time. I walked in looking to buy a desk. I am young so probably not someone they deal with often. Was never greeted or asked if I needed help or anything. While other people walking in that were older than me were greeted with a warm welcome and were asked if they needed anything. This could have been a mistake but also could have been because of my age. Henry (I think he is a manager) was very helpful. I selected an item that was not in stock at the Monterey Pottery Barn, so he called another store and the item arrived a couple of days later. The employees helped carry the large item in the loading zone. I feel he knows the inventory and likes to help the customers. I did read some of these reviews and I was getting nervous that I too would not receive my item or it would arrive weeks later. This was not the case for me, so I wanted to write a review. read more

Just moved to the area and was looking for a new couch. We walked in and said good afternoon to the employees and were met with a glare and frown and no offer for help. Lowest price couch was 3600 not counting any other fees and taxes. Due to poor customer service we left and headed over to the Macy's furniture store in the same shopping plaza. Immediately upon entering we were greeted and shown around the store. 10 minutes later we purchased a couch from them. As a sales associate, part of your job should greet incoming customers, esp. if you're doing absolutely nothing. I've heard of snobby SAs at the local LV if you're dressed too casually, but this is Pottery Barn for goodness sake. Even when I walked into LV recently, they went out of their way to greet me and apologize for not being able assist me immediately due to other clients before me. Don't pretend to not notice me or judge me just because I look young! So right off the bat, this place lacked customer service. I eyed a few items but since there was no one to help me, I decided my money would be better spent elsewhere. Outside of their lack of CS, the store is considerably smaller than other metropolitan locations. The displays were ho-hum and very standard. The only upside is how the store is not really that busy so you can shop without the inconvenience of other customers being in your way. FYI: 2 visits, same experience. This does not hold true for other locations such as in Santa Monica or in Seattle as both were pleasant visits. read more

There are some nice sales associates I've encountered at this store, however, my experience with two different associates left me very unimpressed and I ended up ordering my stuff online. 1. A couple of the sales associates were very snobby. One of them we didn't even want to talk to as she had that look about her too busy sticking her nose up in the air. 2. The other one that looked up some information for us was not only snobby but did not seem to know her products or the availability. Her replies to many of my questions was "Uh, yeah, like we're Pottery Barn." Ok, lady, so what does that mean? When we mentioned we were comparing a bedroom set with Macy's, her response was, "well, uh, they're Macy's and we're Pottery Barn." I was thinking...Who the F cares? She also assumed that Pottery Barn's guarantee on their furniture was better than Macy's. She needs to seriously educate herself about her competitors and not assume that their competitor's are not good. She looked down at Macy's like it was Walmart or something. Good grief. And by the way, I've experienced buying furniture now from both companies, and I must say that Macy's Furniture department has better service from start to finish with regards to their furniture. And their sales people are much more knowledgeable about their products. 3. I was interested in a dining set and of course the table was in stock but there were no more matching chairs and the chairs were to be discontinued. Well, the sales associate was able to find the matching chairs at 3 other PB stores throughout CA but she said we, the customers would have to pay for the shipping. So, here are my thoughts on that, allow me to be snobby...."what? why the hell would I pay 3 separate shipping charges when I'm giving you guys, PB, the business? Shouldn't you pay to have it shipping to your store? Don't you have inter-store transfers that are paid by PB corporate?" Anyways, no way would I pay an additional shipping charges for something I feel PB should cover especially when we were planning to place a rather large furniture order. 4. Pushy and sales-y. Two things I hate when shopping. By the end, we just left the store. I came home, and ordered my items online and was able to use my 15% off entire order coupon. While i do like some of the PB pieces of furniture and decorations, their delivery and service leaves much to be desired. A few of our furniture pieces like the nightstands and coffee table were just delivered UPS to the front of our doorstep, not exactly great service for delivery. I'm surprised as much as PB charges that they do not have their own delivery people and trucks. We are still waiting for our bed to be delivered and they promised one delivery date and changed it on us last minute. (items that were ordered over a month ago) The only redeeming thing about that was that I called to complain about it (and rightfully so) and they credited me back the shipping and processing charges which were a significant amount. read more

My mom is older and wanted to order something through the store because she prefers not to online shop, and had done it at the store a week before with a friendly employee. Without a lot of details, just let me say my experience here....ordering 4 pieces of the Bedford collection has been beyond a nightmare. Inaccurate information, incomplete information, 3 systems ...which means 3 different ordering/delivery options. None of which communicate with each other or together. Back orders cancelled, thank goodness I asked for more info and follow up, or I would still be waiting for yet another of my orders/deliveries which would never show. Lack of follow up and follow thru by "free design services" they've been bragging about (really do get what you pay for I guess), in spite of an almost $4000 order. While a huge fan of PB in the past, I will no longer purchase from this company. I find it ironic that during the time in the store ordering, there was a home stager present who was complaining, very politely, but adamant. She was expressing extreme frustration with PB and their processes. I completely understand what she was talking about. I've now experienced the -exact- same thing. Future buyers...beware. read more

Pottery barn personnel went above and beyond the call of duty to make our purchase work for us. We bought, All at once, a round and rectangular coffee table as well as nesting end tables. They were on sale, so we were happy with the price. The round table was taking too long to order through the store. They searched and found one in Roseville. They were trying to find a way to get it to Monterey for us, free of charge. We were going to pass the store on the way to Tahoe, so we offered picked it up. We ultimately decided that the rectangular table went best with our new sofa. We were allowed to keep all pieces until we compared and made our decision, due to the round table taking so long to obtain. They pleasantly accepted the return of round table and nesting tables. Of course, the quality was top notch and we are very happy with the tanner rectanguler coffee table in bronze. We found all of the sales people to be friendly and helpfu. It may help tha we are able to shop on weekdays vs weekend, when it gets so busy. Special shout out to Amber, whose customer service was exemplary. read more

I received incredible service today! I had two young very friendly sales ladies help me (Summer and Kelley) find pillows and a rug. They worked great together and made my shopping experience enjoyable. Whenever I go into Pottery Barn's in general I either have trouble finding what I need or picking out something that they don't have enough of! Today was different! I love that this store is open and bright, always clean and has a BATHROOM! The only reason I took a star away was because of another sales women who kept on stepping in and interfering when the sales ladies were doing fine. Love Pottery Barn so much, has to be my favorite store! The staff at the Del Monte center isn't approachable at all. Very snooty. I needed help with a price adjustment because the day before I bought bedding and the next day it was on sale. They refused, so I returned and re bought my items and the lady was very rude. THE MANAGER IS AN ABSOLUTE PSYCHOTIC NIGHTMARE. My mother and I came in and asked if we could order seat cushions and have them sent to the store, which another employee did the day before for us. The manager refused us service, stating "I don't have time. Don't you see all this work I have to do?" while holding up paperwork and pushing it into our faces. She then insulted my elderly mother and told her to use a computer herself. My mother pointed out that their was no one in the store and that she clearly had time to help but she then again refused us. I hope the manager is fired. I would call customer service to report her but feel that she will get fired on her own. read more

The customer service at this Pottery Barn is unquestionably lacking. I like to play a little game with myself when I go in - to see if a sales associate will actually say hello to me. It's so bad that even the greeters at the door don't say hello. This last time I went in, it was only me and the sales associate in a section of the store - I looked at her and she averted her eyes, fluffed a pillow and walked away. I find it both amusing and irritating. Sadly, the only reason I go in the store to look at the merchandise and then I go online to buy it. There seems to be a continuing problem with service in this store with the manager (?) who has been there several years. She never approaches you to ask what you want.
