Too formal and too expensive for my taste, but beautiful store and high end pieces.

Meh, a little dark and musty inside..not the best energy. Some items look as though they've been there awhile...have a sale already!

Just follow the little walkway tucked in between Ace Hardware and CVS Drugstore and turn left to the doorway of Consignment by the Sea. Even if you are just browsing, you will be glad you took this detour. The variety here is staggering, as well as the delightful lack of predictability from vintage and antique creations. Thanks to this store, there is a delightful large Japanese screen gracing our living room, with delicately painted pine branches. We also discovered a pair of red porcelain lamps, a black Japanese laquer chair with an ottoman, upholstered in a red geometric pattern, a leather topped coffee table with scroll legs, and four black upholstered modern dining chairs. The value of vintage furniture is that you can find solid wood, brand name pieces for a fraction of the cost at department and furniture stores. They even sometimes feature complete suites of the same style of furniture. A tip is to keep youe eye on the prices as the long the items are in the store, the less they are. They also sometimes have discount days here. The decorative items are also varied and fascinating. I recently saw a beautiful silk obi sash displayed on a chair and some delicate porcelain teacups. This gem is a must-browse each time I visit Carmel.

The "jelly jar" drinking glasses with lids were my go-to beverage and storage containers for years. I order more on line now, but always go to the stores to check out the actual materials and craftsmanship of the items. I am super happy with the huge file cabinets I got last year with counter hung drawers and anti-tip locks. The delivery was seamless, and the young men who assembled and installed them were friendly! Our local store is small, so I always check in at the Del Monte Pottery Barn when I am in Monterey. I have liked the Christmas tree ornaments from Pottery Barn for years, and luckily collected many of the mercury balls and Victorian themed designs. This year's assortment is a bit thin and the all green and white tree just not as festive as the holiday season!! We were greeted immediately, and steered to the dishes we wanted to see, but the white, grey, and blue color scheme of the current design trends is just a bit too bland for us. I can't wait until sage green or turquoise make a come back in PB's color schemes. Meanwhile, I will still explore the products at the store, but here's hoping for a livelier spring, especially after the isolation of the recent pandemic!

We ordered a sectional power recliner from Macy's back in August of 2020. We understood this was during a pandemic, but Macy's did very little to stay on top of our order. Original estimate was for the sofa to arrive in October, that day passed with no notice from Macy's, we spent some time in phone jail to find the delivery was now November. In November again no word and it was moved to December. The systems did not seem to talk to each other and there was no good detail on where our order actually was, just lots of excuses by service. January saw two more delays, but there was finally a delivery day. The delivery was supposed to happen around 11 AM. It didn't, then at 4 PM, our delivery fell off the tracking system. We spent the day away from work for nothing we thought. We called around and finally the delivery guys showed up at 7 PM. The white glove service was anything but. They threw the thing together, did nothing to hide the wires and the seats were uneven and looked like crap. They then called for tech support to come visit us and supposed nobody could come out until April. I wound up having to route the wires to hide them so they would not be a trip hazard. Through lots of calles, we got the service appointment moved up mid-March, but the day before, they informed us they would not have anyone in our area for 2 more weeks. When the tech finally showed up, he was on time, but stated the gaps and uneveness were within spec even though they are literally inches in gaps. He said support would call us within 10-15 minutes after his visit, they didn't. We got an email a week later saying nothing else could be done and at this point, the furniture cannot be returned. So overall, just a miserable experience and not at all what we expected from a brand like Macy's. We will be needing to refurnish the rest of our house, but we will not consider Macy's for any additional furniture or much else after this experience.
