Finding this inventory of Persian rugs from Turkistan, Afghanistan and Iran, was fortuitous as we had been looking for artisanal rugs for some time. Past and current geopolitics may well have repercussions on artisanal rug production and export. The owner has a collection worthy of his 45 years as a buyer and personal collector. He is a delight to work with particulary if you are a serious customer. We look forward to our next visit. Purchasing a rug of this quality is more than an item of beauty; rather, a piece of tangible world heritage.

He is quite knowledgable regarding the age, make and history of each rug. Very impressive. Right now Mohammad is having a 50% retirement sale, which is helpful. Many of the rugs are like a work of art, making it rather difficult to choose, hint, we came home with two rugs, still worth the price. The owner is kind and a delight to chat with. Be a good listener and you will learn much about the rugs. We are not cookie cutter/box store people and would rather invest in wool rugs of good quality and design. I highly recommend this place.

He put expert attention into using the correct dyes and materials and then implemented a beautiful fix that matches the existing patterns. It took a while and wasn't free but it was worth it in spades! Thank you!!!

Just follow the little walkway tucked in between Ace Hardware and CVS Drugstore and turn left to the doorway of Consignment by the Sea. Even if you are just browsing, you will be glad you took this detour. The variety here is staggering, as well as the delightful lack of predictability from vintage and antique creations. Thanks to this store, there is a delightful large Japanese screen gracing our living room, with delicately painted pine branches. We also discovered a pair of red porcelain lamps, a black Japanese laquer chair with an ottoman, upholstered in a red geometric pattern, a leather topped coffee table with scroll legs, and four black upholstered modern dining chairs. The value of vintage furniture is that you can find solid wood, brand name pieces for a fraction of the cost at department and furniture stores. They even sometimes feature complete suites of the same style of furniture. A tip is to keep youe eye on the prices as the long the items are in the store, the less they are. They also sometimes have discount days here. The decorative items are also varied and fascinating. I recently saw a beautiful silk obi sash displayed on a chair and some delicate porcelain teacups. This gem is a must-browse each time I visit Carmel.

Hasan was incredibly patient in showing us many rugs, explaining processes and waiting while my husband and I talked about the measurements, cost, fit, aesthetics ... finally, we did the deal and came home super happy with the rugs. They're hand knotted, many vintage a hundred years old, they truly don't make them like that anymore. And because of all this tariff nonsense, they're not importing new rugs from other countries. After we bought them, we parked our car behind the store and he brought them out for us. Parking in a nearby lot is easy.

Instead, the associate I spoke with came across as condescending and dismissive. When I showed him a carpet I'd found online, he didn't really try to help or explain options; it felt like he just wanted to move me along. He repeatedly pointed out that the carpets I was considering were "cheap," and when he mentioned another one was around $4,000, it came with a "well, that's expensive -- what's your budget?" tone rather than an attempt to genuinely guide me. I went in because I'm not an expert and wanted knowledgeable advice, but I left feeling unwelcome and talked down to, which was disappointing given the positive reviews I had read beforehand.
