I have to do a review and big shout out to my man Dr. Basile for coming through in my vasectomy…read more This is a very permanent decision that one doesn't come to lightly, by Dr. Basile was very down to earth with the prep, very open and honest with me about how the procedure would go, and very professional during the procedure. It was fairly quick, without any complications, and produced the desired results. Dr. Basile is very thorough and thoughtful and was willing to schedule me in on a typically non surgery day, due some some extenuating circumstances on my part. I greatly appreciated this and the work he did.

I have been a patient at Commonwealth Urology for several years, first as a patient of Dr Basile…read moreand now his partner Dr Patel who is now the sole Doctor now that Dr Basile has retired. First referred by my Primary Care in Fairfax, I continue being a patient even though travelling from Ashburn to Fairfax isn't easy. However the staff is great and Dr Patel in particular makes himself very available to patients either in-person or via e-mail. I find him very attentive to my concerns and as an overseas traveler, he ensures I have what I need in my trips. He also ensures follow-up as necessary with labs and takes the time to explain the findings. He and his staff are prompt regarding prescriptions and in the past were also very helpful getting insurance approvals for certain medications. A long drive but worth the attention patients receive.

I hesitate to write this review, but others should know to avoid this practice. Dr. Engel was…read morearrogant and dismissive and spoke to me as if I was a child. I was seen much later than expected, due to patient volume. Dr. Engel handled my sensitive areas very roughly and performed the procedure as if in a hurry. What's worse - it was unsuccessful! The staff wasn't contrite when I informed them and instead wanted to reschedule. I will get the procedure done elsewhere. Avoid this practice. Oh, also Tony Kornheiser was in the office that day, and Dr. Engel bragged that he'd get a shoutout on Tony's show at the end (he didn't).

In 2021, I was referred to Dr. John Losse, who at the time shared a practice with Dr. Jason Engel…read more After several weeks of being unable to reach Dr. Losse or his assistant following my in office biopsy to schedule a follow-up appointment, I went to the office in person and was informed that Dr Losse had abruptly left the practice. I was told Dr. Engel would review and potentially assume care as one of his patients, so I scheduled an appointment. My initial appointment was uneventful however, I did find it odd that Dr. Engel, started off by indicating he would've never approached my case the way his former colleague had essentially throwing him under the bus, but I did appreciate his directness. and honesty. Dr. Engel promptly arranged for a biopsy at an outpatient facility, which identified three cancerous lesions in contrast to a prior in-office biopsy that had received from his former practice colleague that indicated I was cancer-free. For that, I am grateful. However, during my follow-up visit, I asked a few questions, two of which were: whether post-surgical treatment if needed could be coordinated in Baltimore (as I was planning to relocate), and whether he had observed more aggressive prostate cancer cases among African-American patients given my family history of fatal outcomes. In response, Dr. Engel told me that my question about racial disparities was "one of the dumbest questions" he had heard and suggested that perhaps I should start treatment in Baltimore. He then exited the exam room. I was surprised and disappointed by the tone and manner of the interaction, especially given the seriousness of a cancer diagnosis and the well-documented disparities in prostate cancer outcomes. I later sought treatment at Johns Hopkins, where I experienced excellent care and professional communication. While I cannot and would not, speak to Dr. Engel's clinical competence, my personal experience with communication and bedside manner was not one I would recommend. Respectfully submitted Damon D

Charlotte G Houston, MD…read more Towards the end of 2025 my primary care provider recommended that I consult with a urologist to address my nocturia. At 70 years old it's probably not surprising that such a consultation would be called for. She recommended that I seek guidance and treatment from Charlotte G Houston, MD. This was an excellent recommendation. Dr. Houston is a board-certified urologist providing comprehensive urologic care to adult patients of all genders in the DC Metro area and Northern Virginia. She specializes in minimally invasive treatments and robotic surgery, with expertise in laparoscopic and robotic surgeries for kidney and prostate cancer, focusing on optimizing functional outcomes and minimizing patient discomfort. Dr. Houston also treats a wide range of urologic conditions, including kidney stones, recurrent UTIs, urinary incontinence, and erectile dysfunction, and performs procedures such as circumcisions and vasectomies. I learned about Dr. Houston's medical practice from an online seminar sponsored by Virginia Hospital Center (VHC). The seminar provided information about a range of treatment options. In addition to her expertise in cancer care, Dr. Houston offers a variety of treatment options for enlarged prostate, including Urolift, Rezum, Transurethral Resection (TURP), Gprostatest Photovaporization, Aquablation, Holmium Laser Enucleation (HoLEP), and simple prostatectomy. At our initial meeting at Dr. Houston's office in Alexandria, she performed two screening examinations, neither of which required sedation. After she reviewed the results of the screening, we talked about what my goals were - in this case dealing with my nocturia. She explained the drawbacks and benefits of a number of options. From this and based on her insight and experience, I selected ablation using water (aquablation) to clear obstructive prostate tissue from the urethra. The aquablation procedure was painless and required little recovery time. It was effective - instead of waking up three to five times each night to urinate, the procedure resulted in reducing that number to one or two times each night - a major improvement. All things considered, choosing Dr. Houston was a smart move. She was an outstanding educator, and her surgical work was perfect.

My baby is 3 weeks old, she is vomit and her stomach is hard. I called the insurance, they need me…read moreto take my baby to the VHC emergency room right away. And you can not believe it, I got there at 10:15 PM, and until 1:30 AM, no doctor has come to check on her, no one , just the nurse came to ask a few questions and left. And I don't know how long I have to wait. I will update the time when the doctor arrives below. It is really frustrating, because my baby is just 3 weeks old.And she is in pain, she hungry. And no doctor has time to pay attention to your baby. It is really frustrating when your baby is lying there and you can't do anything.
