In today's world of over-the-top food choices (especially for breakfast and brunch), Pot Luck Cafe feels like a throwback to Mel's Diner from the 70's show Alice! [ THE FOOD ] This is not a place that will impress you with creative menu items, or Instagram-worthy presentations, or even a modern decor. It's true old school with no frills or thrills, and that's just the way their customer base likes it! They have absolutely no trouble filling seats and have been doing so since 1949. It really is a pretty standard small town southern menu with probably the most exciting item of the breakfast choices being THE DAWG PILE. Monroe is University of Georgia Bulldog (or Dawg) country, thus the name. The pile lumps all your favorites onto one plate: 2 scrambled eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, and cubed potatoes loaded on top of an open face biscuit, then smothers them in sawmill gravy. It's not a dish that's gonna cause people to flock from all over the state, but it is a very decent breakfast at a decent price. The pancakes are also no frills, but they are plate sized and delicious in the traditional sense. We also ordered a blueberry muffin for $1.50. It came to the table piping hot. While we really enjoyed it, I would have loved if it included a sugary glaze like you find on Bojangles Bo-Berry Biscuits. [ THE SERVICE ] Where Pot Luck Cafe will absolutely impress you is with their down home hospitality. I'm telling you, if you don't leave this place feeling like you are part of the family, then you are just a grumpy human being that probably shouldn't be allowed around live people! You will have a main server, but the entire staff is probably going to visit your table at one point or another during your meal. They are going to make sure you have everything you need and correct any problem. The owner's wife greeted us outside to let us know wait times. She also asked our table preference based on a few tables that would be leaving soon while briefly taking time to get to know us. We watched the cleaning staff flat out attacked each dirty table the moment its previous inhabitants walked out the door. After cleaning and refilling all condiments, they then walk another set of diners to the table. One person might take your drink order, while another takes your meal order, and yet another brings your meal to the table. Meanwhile, nearly every time ANY of them pass by they will ask if you have everything you need. Miss Jackie was our main server and she has been there over 34 years. She has also won BEST SERVER in the county multiple times during her tenure. You're gonna love her... and all the staff for that matter. [ THE VERDICT ] Listen, even if you don't love your meal for whatever reason, you WILL love the southern charm this place exudes!!! This is what REAL service looks like firsthand. The food is probably not going to blow you away, but the staff will. I wouldn't be surprised if they are calling you by name from memory within three visits! Good food, great prices and amazing service! I'm convinced the name Pot Luck comes from the fact everyone on staff contributes to your meal. ENJOY!

Hello from the Walton Community Church Men's Breakfast Group!

A bunch of us old retired guys from Walton Community Church meet here every Wednesday morning and we love it. Our server, Rhonda, is the best! We are never disappointed with the food and the place is full of good, friendly folks. If you don't have anyone to eat breakfast with, see you at 7:30 Wednesday, we'll be looking for you!

Maybe my first visit today was just an off day? I got the special of the day for my kid who loves veggies. Corn, speckled peas, and collards with meatloaf. The peas were awful, corn very bland, and collards tough. Meatloaf was burnt. I had the pot luck soup which was like a vegetable stew. I will say it came out super hot, and wasn't awful. Definitely wouldn't order it again, though. Cornbread wasn't sweet, so that was a plus. We left still hungry. Food was awful today. If I go back, it'll be a long time. Our waitress also never checked on us after we ordered.

I'm a regular here because it is consistently outstanding. Good food and super service always. I especially like Wednesdays and Fridays for lunch. They always serve turkey and dressing on Wednesdays and on Fridays it is picnic day at Pot Luck Cafe with their fried chicken boneless chicken breast and the best potato salad ever. read more

It's a really great price, huge portions, and great service. They give you a huge pitcher of ice tea at your table. The ham was really salty and the food was basic but I still managed to eat it. Nice place to go for a traditional country breakfast. read more

Wife found Pot Luck looking for a good local Monroe breakfast destination. We went there hearing good things. Parking was easy and the interior decorated nice, cozy feel. Erin was our server and really personable and nice, helpful to newbies on the menu. Coffee was hot and tasted good. My wife had a combination bacon, eggs, grits which she loved. I had a western omelette which was big, fluffy, stuffed pretty full..mmmmm All in all a very good dining experience, the lunch menu and the "dawg pile" both look / sound great! What a great place to eat! And Pot Luck also is a happy place besides having delicious foods. The environment is clean and the people who serve are caring and friendly. When I go there, which is often, I feel welcomed. The menu items are the best, I love their hamburgers and the turkey and dressing on Wednesdays! Lots of folks show up on Wednesdays to enjoy that turkey day! Many of the wait staff have been at Pot Luck for years. It is a great place to eat and it is very reasonable in its pricing. The most important thing though to me is being spoken to and "seen." I never feel like "just a number." read more

What a warm and friendly welcome we received. We were going to do some final wedding planning for this past weekend and came across this little cafe and just felt like we walked into a family kitchen. Great local cafe with a warm hometown feel. We were greeted right away with a friendly waitress named Erin. She got our drinks orders to us followed by our meals in a timely manner. You can make the food at home from a frozen food bag. It really isn't anything special, nor convenient sooooo..... It could serve hot pockets and ramen noodles and ide still feel indifferent about it. Unless you really really really like walking down town monroe, it's not worth the trip. If cafeteria food and soul food had a baby you'd get this. read more

Great hometown restaurant to fill your belly with fresh yummies and be pampered by the friendly staff. Love Alanna, Jackie, and Rhonda among others. Pot Luck has a superb breakfast that can't be beat in Walton county, GA!! There lunch specials are always a well-rounded meal at affordable rates. My grandparents loved Pot Luck. Best little restaurant in town. Jackie (pictured) and Rhonda plus the rest of the staff are fantastic. Everything I have tried has been wonderful and the service is fast and friendly. I'm here to say publicly for the world to see. I don't like this place... I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! If you're in the area, you must stop by and have a bite to eat here. This place is worth planning a trip to the Monroe area. I was blown away by the quality of taste, the friendly atmosphere, service and just how fast my food came out. I love this place, I'm a fan and I will be back this weekend to eat again! Tacos and Beer is my thing now!

It's neat that this restaurant is located in an old local grocery store. We made our way to the restaurant portion of the store. There's a huge display case of hot food and a big menu board to check out. There was so much on the menu board, I didn't know what to get. I noticed they had daily specials. I opted for the daily special. It was a great way to be able go get a little of everything. I wanted to try it all! I really wanted the baked chicken but there was a lot going on on top of the chicken. The seasoning looked overwhelming so I decided to get the chicken tenders. For my sides I got fried brussel sprouts, collard greens and grilled zucchini/squash. My husband got the club sandwich with a side of mac and cheese. My fried brussel sprouts were so good! Fried perfectly and salty. It came with a good balsamic dip. The collard greens were tender. The grilled zucchini and squash mix was tasty! My chicken tenders were kinda dry. I really wanted to like them since it was the main dish but I couldn't. I had a bite of my husband's sammy and it was so good! I love the toasted sourdough bread they used. The turkey and ham was good as well. I didn't get a chance to try the mac and cheese. All of it was eaten before I could even get a bite. Overall, service was ok. The gal at the register seemed annoyed when we were asking her questions about the menu and the food they offered. Even when I asked her for a to go box, she seemed bothered. It's in your job description to help people. I find it humorous when people act like that in the food industry. I know we will be in Monroe a couple more times before we travel back home. I do want to come back and try a couple more things. The fried chicken looked so good in the hot case. Hopefully my next experience will be with someone who actually wants to help their guests.

I can take your drink off of your tab, but you'll still have to pay for the whole thing.. she then asked me if I wanted another dish I said no, I don't think I feel comfortable eating here anymore. The manager came up to me and apologized for the roach in my food, and said that he could give me a little discount. I paid for my food and I left. I will NEVER be going back to that location. Pot Luck Café in Monroe is an absolute gem! It's a true family-owned restaurant, and you can feel that the moment you walk in -- the owners are right there, running things with care and heart. We love our local family owned restaurant. My husband and I come here just about every Saturday for breakfast. The food is excellent. The service is outstanding and they make you feel like family.
