The only person who ever greets you with any warmth here is a man who I presume is the owner. I have been here a ton of times and I always dread going. The ladies working here never crack a smile when you walk in and seem annoyed you are there. I purchased passport photos after dropping $400 on shipping envelopes abroad and it turned out I needed one digital copy of my passport photo, not printed images. I asked them if they would snap a quick photo with my phone and explained what happened and that the measurements didn't even need to be exact. I just needed the white background and the lighting. Would have taken her 30 seconds. She said she would charge me full price - she didn't even try to politely offer a reason. Just no, I will charge you full price, with an attitude. This store really misses an opportunity at offering a communal, helpful go-to kind of store. I always prefer to support local businesses/franchises, but not when they don't appreciate my business. I honestly have never compared prices on their shipping services but it does seem very expensive. But I wouldn't even care though if the people working there offered even a minimal level of customer service. Giving one star because everything I have mailed has arrived and there is one employee who knows her stuff and while not all that nice, she is quick. Had a family heirloom packed by Postal Annex and explained it was fragile..It took them two days to package it and the cost was around $56. When they wrote the order they asked for the insurance value which i provided. I didn't send it by Postal Annex because it was so expensive and by land. I had the package sent via FedEx by a friend and it arrived 2 days later by air. Unfortunately, it arrived broken in 4 places. The box it was packed in had no damage. When I found out the package arrived broken, I reached out to Postal Annex and told them it arrived broken but there was no visible damage to the box. I asked for a reimbursement for just the cost of the packaging only $56..the clerk said she had to call the owner and implied I should go after FedEx for reimbursement. They didn't even offer an apology. In the meantime, I went to FedEx and the first thing they did was offer an apology and offered to help me file a claim. The next day the clerk called from Postal Annex and said the owner said he wouldn't reimbursement me for the packaging cost. I tried to explain that it obviously wasn't packed properly and if they had asked for an insurance value i'm sure they would cover at least the cost to pack the item. I asked the clerk to ask the owner again. She called back the next day and said the owner refused to pay for anything and that they had no responsibility whatsoever. That i need to file a claim with FedEx. Again, I explained that the box had no damage, and it arrived broken becasue of how it was packed. She said sorry, he refuses to pay for anything. Take it up with FedEx. I live in Hillcrest and use local businesses as often as i can. But I wouldn't recommend using Postal Annex for anything. Why use a place that won't stand behind what they do or even take any responsibility. Makes no sense to me. read more

I needed to a letter via USPS certified. I was across the street from the post office but I figured I may as well do it at the Postal Annex because I was buying the envelope there. Postal Annex was going to charge me $18 to send a letter via USPS First Class Certified. I said forget it and walked across the street to the post office. They charged only 5.65. Postal Annex was more than 3x the price. This is absolutely absurd. read more

But this place charges for USPS QR code returns so you have to pay $1.40 for them to scan and print the QR code (which is not clear from return instructions). Which is fine, whatever, but then they don't accept credit card unless you spend more than $5. Finally, they can't/wont provide a receipt for USPS drop offs. Don't waste your time here, just go to the post office across the street. read more

Very good customer service, but will choose a different place for FedEx. Shipped my dad a Father's Day gift on a Wednesday evening. Clerk said the fastest way to get there would be FedEx, cost for overnight would be $48.00 and would get there by noon on Friday. Call my Dad on Friday night, no package arrived. Check FedEx tracking, it's at the city of delivery but not delivered. Package was delivered on Monday,most expensive shipping ever! FedEx blamed Postal Annex for telling me it would be delivered by Friday. Cute store with fun cards, employees are nice but was bummed about the shipping issue. When taking a Amazon return back they go against Amazon policy which states that they will tape and ship the box out. This place makes you buy a box even though you took it in a box and then charges 2 bucks to tape the mailing label on the box so I guess since Amazon gets massive amounts of returns they are trying to capitalize on it. read more

Rude customer service. (Hispanic notary woman) They upsale stamps but didn't tell us until AFTER she stamped 20 envelopes. When i mentioned it, we were treated rudely as if she didny care, and as if we should already know. One star for the rude customer service - read below for details. Stamps are currently $.49, this place charges $.70....which would be fine normally...but normally places tell you this. Especially for bulk mailings, like ours was. Had we known, we would have taken our bulk stack of invites to the post office across the street to mail out and saved ourselves some money. This small issues became a problem when I brought this to the womans attention. i told her it might have been nice to know stamps were 30% MORE (here at Postal Annex) before she began stamping our large stack of envelopes. She replied we should have known, as "regulars know this already, the people who come in often..." I explained we weren't 'regulars'...she said if we "would have asked" if stamps were more then she would have told us of the higher price. ** Making us feel at fault for this mishap was not at all what I expected, and absolutely unprofessional.** I suggested it would be nice for future customers, who are not regulars, to know that stamps cost more than at the Post Office...she immediately began walking away and said "OK I got it" and started helping the next customer. I have never been treated this way in Hillcrest, ever. Perhaps if she was having a bad day, or doesn't like her job, then she can either take a day off, or work somewhere she where she actually enjoys her job. Life is short, qork where you are happy and be kind. I had been at this location with a p.o box for over 10 years. Their performance was what would be expected for a postal service. Nothing spectacular, just average. Many don't know this but when you depart for another mail service ( in my case, I acquired a home service address) your mail cannot be forwarded through USPS, so you need to contact each of your mailers and advise them. Good luck with the IRS, tax agencies such as home and many other government agencies. Especially during this Covid19.disaster. My stimuls check, property taxes were all returned. I am still trying to recover those. It would be nice if they sent a text as they do when they're receiving your patronage. Unfortunately, their company franchise's business model and the "Going the extra mile" doesn't apply to customers after leaving their service. He's obviously an experienced small business owner, and knows what it takes to make a dollar. The stand out employee however, is Elyce. I go in maybe once a week, but she knows my name and my box number. Before I'm even finished emptying my box, she's already in the back retrieving any packages I might have. Once again, the customer service here is awesome. Their location is convenient to Hillcrest, downtown and close to the 163. The only negative is parking. They're located in a strip mall with a decent lot, but there's hardly ever any close parking. read more

I have been a customer and box holder of Postal Annex, store #7. Hillcrest,92103 since 2005. On Feb 12. 19, I was injured during the mass shooting in the hillcrest neighborhood that evening. I injured my elbow and suffer severe PTSD from childhood trauma. Yesterday, at 5:15PM, I had gone to store #7 to do some scanning, copying and computer rental related to the personal injury case. Elyce helped me and Bosco completed the transaction. After my sale, Bosco asked to speak to me outside. He asked me why I am always unhappy. I told him I was injured both physically and mentally by the incident and I explained I am under severe distress, anxiety and with physical pain to my left elbow. He acted in a confrontational way. My friend BMA was a witness and tried to explain to Bosco what I was going through. Bosco dismissed my explanation and says that every time he sees me I am not happy. I asked Elyce what I did and she gave me a smug look and said nothing. Of note, this store is in the LGBTQ neighborhood of San Diego. I have personally witnessed members of my community spout off on Bosco and his employees; demanding, cursing and banging on the counters. I have wateched and Bosco seems to attend to these people easier and jumps for them. Also, I had box # XXX for my personal mail. I had a restraining order against someone. After the court hearing the judge ALLOWED my protective/stalking order against this person. He clearly violated the order and I asked store #7 not to allow this person to seek personal information about me. Obviously, someone in the store gave out my information or the person would have not know I was a customer there. I went to an attorney who reached out to the store about the latter and they refused to cooperate. read more

When I asked about USPS Flat Rate International boxes (to compare pricing), she said that they didn't offer that service.
