This branch is located in quite an old building, like a good number of Post Offices are, the only entrance is up a few steps, which is even used to transport mail in and out as the store does not have a ramp, it has a wheelchair button for access, however, this didn't appear to be working on my visit. The store inside seemed a bit messy and other than having one or two self-service machines, the queuing system wasn't handled fairly well. The staff situation was a little weird, they seemed kind yet unhelpful, perhaps this was an issue with their training which was a shame. For the main reasons of access, overall feel etc, I sadly feel this Post Office branch really lets the whole Post Office brand down as a whole, and sadly deserves a single one-star rating.

The shop at the front of the unit doesn't sell it but he sent me to the back of the shop where the actual P.O was and they hooked me up. I had a load of cash on me (for once) at the time and as I was handling it the women told me that they offer cash back so that I don't need to carry around so much cash in future, I thought that was really sweet. It's kind of an amazing little place though, you can get sweets, cigarettes, a passport, foreign currency and post letters all in one little shop, it's so handy!

However the service here is absolutely appalling. I have to come here often for work errands and every time the treatment has been rude, abrupt and unhelpful. On my first visit, I was in between meetings and was on the phone to a client and only had a small parcel to send first class - simple task. The woman behind the counter asked me 'have you finished? I'm not serving you until you are off the phone. Get back to the queue'. There are no signs saying that you cannot use your phones and this has never been an issue in other branches before. The following times that I have come here, the same woman always stares at me and speaks to a colleague serving me in a different language and laughs. More recently I asked a different woman to help me change £50 into £10 and £5 notes - she then proceeded to tell me she could only give me two £5 notes and that her colleague (who was only 5 steps away) had more. I asked her to ask her colleague for me and she instead told me to queue up again to wait. I have never experienced customer service like this - and I am disappointed that there isn't another branch I can use. Horrendous excuse for a post office.

The store seems a bit confusing, in a way it doesn't seem like they know what they're doing or specialising in which results in a giant mess as the store focuses on mobile phone accessories, sale and repair, as well as newsagents and standard Post Office, there was even "fresh" fruit which didn't seem to be of a decent quality being sold outside. This branch is their St James location which is at the back of a Ryman Stationary store, I'm used to seeing Post Offices located in newsagents mainly from WHSmith or independent outlets especially in smaller cities, so I was surprised to see Ryman get in on the action here, especially considering Ryman is normally a parcel store for rival chain DHL to the Post Office'ss UK Mail services from Royal Mail and Parcelforce. It is pretty small compared to other locations to the point where there is even an aisle of Ryman (the store it is located in) basically in the Post Office making it a tight squeeze to use the counter or self-service posting machine however one thing I don't like is the Post Office is so tiny, there's virtually nowhere you can stand to pull to the side for example if you want to get parcels out of your bag first or write something out, without holding up the queue. It did seem pretty clean and modern, like the rest of the store and alongside the location that is pretty much one of the only good things about it, especially considering other Post Offices in central London which lack modern facilities and are honestly pretty dirty and dire. 2^ - Really small location even for a Post Office in a store, they try to pack in what they can but perhaps it makes it too much of a tight squeeze and not the best place if you want to write out a card or spend a little time doing something before going to the counter. The extra star is for cleanliness and location, certainly not other factors of the store which remain unsatisfactory including but not limited to the size of the store and service.

It is not the fault of the staff that their accommodation is so depressing (and has got more so in recent years), there may have been difficulties in communicating through thick screens and that there are a lot of users (and hence queues). Staff are trapped as much as users. Yesterday was my big day to post Christmas presents to the USA but, as it turned out, the customs form required the telephone number of the recipient (my brother). Didn't remember it (we e-mail) and didn't have it to hand - and the collection was due in twenty minutes with last posting day on Sunday. Having paid the postage, I rushed home, collected the phone number and rushed back to find that the staff (including Keepthana) had held the collection - with my box on the trolley - until I returned. I thought that this was above and behind and really kind.
