I've been in and out many a time to the Old Street Post Office, and I can't say I have any…read morecomplaints... They have 4 self-service machines (always good if your request is simple, need stamps, etc) and there is rarely a line. There's also a small selection of packaging goods should you be in a pinch (envelopes, tape, cards even!). The staff has always proved quite helpful when I do indeed need to speak to a person. Patient, even. Impressive! The only thing missing is PENS. Please, strap a few pens to the desks. I've had to buy packages of pens on 2 occasions, woefully overpriced of course. Maybe this is the grand plan to keep the post office afloat? I am not sure but a few pens in the joint would be super.

Ugh, another horrendous Shoreditch post office though with ever so slightly higher customer service…read morecredentials than its Hoxton Street counterpart. Ostensibly the Old Street post office should be fairly efficient. There are around a dozen tills, some seating and a good selection of stationery and packaging materials. But the service is pretty dire. There are routinely staff at only around half of the tills and these staff - bar one very friendly young man - are routinely very, very mardy. I posted something valuable at this post office around six weeks ago, used the Recorded Delivery option and it went missing. When I returned to the Old Street post office to try and obtain an address to send my appeal for compensation to the service staff were indifferent bordering on hostile. Avoid unless you really, really need to post something and in that case avoid this post office at lunch time as the queue is invariably about 50 people deep. And life's too short to spend half an hour of your day queueing to buy stamps.

Rude and grumpy service from the female post office cashier…read more I've had the unfortunate mishap of having to use this post office several times over the last year as I work close by. Each time it is getting worse and she has made it unbearable to use this post office... For some reason the only lady cashier who works at the post office chooses to ignore me and never calls me over. She stares blankly without saying anything. Oddly, she's very friendly with everybody in the post office especially to people who are Caucasian. My colleagues have also noted the same mannerisms and describe her with an attitude problem. The male cashier at the post office is professional. However I am certain she is discriminating me. This will be the last time I visit here. I advise that she comes off her high horse and starts speaking to all her customers, otherwise I see no reason for her to be in the front line of service at a professional organisation. Surely there must be some disciplinary action for discrimination.

Every time that woman looks across and sees me in the que she immediately starts speaking in her language to the man.. And for about a good minute or so she would completely disregard my presence at the counter while she carry on speaking to him in her language, happen to me again as recent as yesterday morning.. I've also noticed that she is overly polite to a certain set of people and very rude to others..

Surprisingly, there aren't as many Post Office locations in central London as one would expect -…read moreeven compared to other cities in the UK where in the centre there are just so many, including my home-town of Manchester. This branch is their St James location which is at the back of a Ryman Stationary store, I'm used to seeing Post Offices located in newsagents mainly from WHSmith or independent outlets especially in smaller cities, so I was surprised to see Ryman get in on the action here, especially considering Ryman is normally a parcel store for rival chain DHL to the Post Office'ss UK Mail services from Royal Mail and Parcelforce. It is pretty small compared to other locations to the point where there is even an aisle of Ryman (the store it is located in) basically in the Post Office making it a tight squeeze to use the counter or self-service posting machine however one thing I don't like is the Post Office is so tiny, there's virtually nowhere you can stand to pull to the side for example if you want to get parcels out of your bag first or write something out, without holding up the queue. It did seem pretty clean and modern, like the rest of the store and alongside the location that is pretty much one of the only good things about it, especially considering other Post Offices in central London which lack modern facilities and are honestly pretty dirty and dire. 2^ - Really small location even for a Post Office in a store, they try to pack in what they can but perhaps it makes it too much of a tight squeeze and not the best place if you want to write out a card or spend a little time doing something before going to the counter. The extra star is for cleanliness and location, certainly not other factors of the store which remain unsatisfactory including but not limited to the size of the store and service.
