For a decently nice restaurant, you would expect the outside and inside to give the same vibe. It wasn't. I think because of COVID and more people wanting to sit outside, they should definitely put some funds towards renovation of the patio seating. Moving on. Everything else was great. Yummy jalapeño cornbread in the bread basket, great and strong cocktails, champagne sorbet to cleanse your palate. Service was spectacular and they often checked on us. I had the surf and turf. I went for a business dinner in a private room at the Post Oak. I had low expectations because of the reviews, and they were far exceeded. The filet was flavorful, perfectly cooked, and actually really reasonably priced. The bread pudding dessert with ice cream was surprisingly good too. This place was a pleasant surprise. Post Oak Grill reminded me of old fashioned, traditional "hotel food." The ambiance of the restaurant was a little dated, and the food was just ok overall. We didn't hate it, but we didn't love it either. There's free parking in the garage at least, but walking in through the back entrance is a little awkward because there's not a host stand in the back so you enter and feel kind of lost until a server is nice enough to help you. We came here for HRW lunch on a Wed around 12:45pm, it was very crowded, but we still somehow managed to get a table immediately. $20 for 3 courses is a steal in my book value wise. But overall the food was underwhelming to be honest. 1st course we tried their creamy pepper bisque, caesar salad, and mushroom ravioli. Portions are small, but the pepper bisque was the best tasting option. 2nd course we tried their barbeque trio, chicken scallopini, and their slow roasted pork tenderloin. All the entrees were just meh overall. Typical "hotel food" that consists of a protein, mashed potatoes, and simple roasted vegetables. Everything was good just nothing to be impressed by. Portions are relatively small. 3rd course we tried their carrot cake, key lime pie, and supposed to be mango sorbet. I say supposed to be mango sorbet because it was actually a lemon/lime sorbet instead of mango as advertised. Surprisingly though, the citrus sorbet was the best thing out of all 3 courses we tried. The sorbet reminded me of a very tart frozen lemonade, it was refreshing. The key lime pie and carrot cake were ok, but they were the thinnest slices possible portion wise. Service was good though. They took our order and food came out surprisingly fast. My only WARNING is that they don't honor the Yelp check in offer for a free iced tea or soda. In fact, the manager who's been there for 25 years, and the head chef were confused when I showed it to them. They thought it was a scam and told me no. Which I was ok with, they just made it sound like I was trying to scam them out of a miniscule $2.50 iced tea. We had dinner there last night and I have found my new favorite Resturant. They haven't been open very long and I was surprised to see how everything was so smooth. The waitstaff were attentive, food delicious and surroundings just perfect for a night out, or lunch with my friends. We came here for a work lunch in one of their back private rooms - I thought the service was quite good. Our waitress was very friendly and did a good job with keeping everyone happy considering we had a pretty large group (15 people). When it came to the food, it was fine - nothing spectacular, but generally plated nicely. I had the grilled chicken sandwich that was supposed to come with cheese, bacon, and avocado - the avocado pieces provided barely added up to one slice. Disappointing for the price. We all waited until 5:20 before giving up. Since they didn't update their hours anywhere, we're now stuck trying to find a place that isn't packed on a Saturday night and can't find any restaurants that are taking people before 7:30pm. It's long - but worth saying. Do better Post Oak Grill. Made a Thanksgiving lunch reservation for myself at the Post Oak Grill. The reception area was crazy busy, honestly, as expected. The seating was running about 30-45 minutes behind, mainly because other patrons were lingering due to the inclement weather. No problem. And honestly i would say 98% of the people waiting were chill with fun interaction amongst ourselves - the hostess was overwhelmed, again, understandable. A gentleman came in after me, with the same RSVP time, and mentioned his name had not been previously added via his online reservation - he had to call to confirm his RSVP. He suggested if i RSVP'd on line i might want to confirm mine. When i approached the hostess desk - letting her know WHEN SHE HAD A SEC - i wanted to confirm i was on the list for 1:30. She told me, "I'm still working through the 1:00 reservations, when i get to the 1:30 reservations I'll call your name." I told her I didn't want to wait another 30+minutes if my name wasn't on the list. She confirmed i was on the list...for a party of 4. I told her i was a party of 1. This was merely for her benefit for seating purposes. When she later called my name - party of 1 - she told me i could grab a seat in the lounge, pointing in a general direction, and moved on. I asked 2 waitstaff where exactly the lounge was located. It was in the bar. Literally, a seat AT THE BAR. No table service, no place setting, no nothing. Bar service. Ok...I was willing to give this a try. Got a plate at the buffet, sat down, had to ask for silverware and a napkin, and waited...waited...waited...then a fork and knife was sat down next to me, on top of the nasty bar. So...for $60 pp, this was the privilege / service i was going to pay for. Nope. Understood POG could care less if i was a paying customer or not, but as a "courtesy" i let the hostess know i was leaving as i did not appreciate being banished to the bar because i was a party of one, with no table service, and for the privilege of paying $60+ for lunch. She literally had the audacity to tell me "our tables are not set for less than parties of one" - literally said that. PERHAPS...JUST PERHAPS...update your website to state you'll only be serving a buffet and not off the menu AND you do not want SINGLE parties making a reservation. Note - a) when I initially walked in, i walked past two, two seat tables, both SOLELY occupied by men, b) no where on their website did it indicate this was a buffet only lunch, and c) no where on their website did it say no parties under 2. I am not sure what has happened, but my husband and I were the only diners in the restaurant at 7:30 on a Friday night. Later a group went into the wine room. It was bizarre. My Manhattan was shaken, no, no! Food was tasty and presented well. Crab cake was good, fish was ok, steak was good as were the sides. Limited wine list and they did not have the one we ordered. I came in solo for a quick HRW lunch. I would come back again and again just for the bread basket with the garlic herb butter so good! It wasn't too busy during lunch time and my waiter was nice and attentive but not smothering. I started with the wild mushroom ravioli, had the salmon as my main, and ended with the mango key lime pie. The food was really good my only complaint was I wish the pie was way colder so that when they sliced it it kept its composure but as you can see from my photo it looked a bit sad. Had a fantastic restaurant week experience here. So glad we came since I can't even recall how many years its been since I've been to this location! First, the staff were all so nice, welcoming and helpful. I live the hostess! And it was full and bustling on a Friday night both in the restaurant and the bar. Food was excellent. From the HRW menu, I tried: - shrimp appetizer - delicious and filling! - salad - also delicious and I appreciated the smaller size - pasta - picatta style and fabulous. I ended up talking this to go and it was divine the next day. Kindly, they threw in some of the delish bread and even butter! - amaretto cheesecake - also delicious and a fun treat They had a strawberry martini special that was really tasty. You have to understand this is a Valentine's Day review only. You know how busy it is on Valentine's Day so you have to understand you are going to get a little bit of wait time. Let me tell you how the night started. Went to go valet my vehicle there was only one guy doing all the work. He told me I'm gonna be the last person go ahead and park my car there in the middle of the street where the cars coming out of the parking garage are going to hit my car. I said are you sure I can't scoot up a little bit? He told me I'm not dealing with your shit go park your f$&@ing car inside the garage. I let it go because I understand he looked short staffed. As we go into the restaurant there is a 30 minute wait just to check in. We checked in and the lady told me it's gonna be about a 45 to an hour wait past our reservation. We went to the lounge and waited 30 more minutes for a cocktail. As we were waiting for a cocktail The bartender poured a soda for somebody and didn't have the nozzle on it sprayed my girlfriend and I with water all over her dress and all over my shirt. owner offered us a table. Very very nice of him but then we waited another 45 minutes for a waiter or waitress to take our order. I did not know there was a Valentine's Day menu that we had to pick from. Finally they took our order and I told them can we get two more drinks, 30 minutes later nobody came so I went to the bar and beg them for two more drinks. Visited for Valentine's Day with my girlfriend and the first thing I noticed was the restaurant was severely understaffed and unorganized. There were legitimately about 3 waiters/waitresses trying to cover 20+ tables . People were waiting 15 minutes after being seated to get their drink orders taken. They initially acted as if they were unsure where they could seat me because the restaurant was "swamped" even though my table should be reserved because of the reservation I made. Additionally, the online interface did not make it clear that the limited option "Valentine's Special" menu would be the only choices available for the day, I made the reservation under the impression that I could still order from the more extensive primary menu. The first issue with this was that the Valentine's Special was $70 per person for only 3 options in each course. However, my largest complaint was the ridiculous serving sizes. My first course of lobster bisque can in a bowl the size of a dixie cup. My main course of beef tenderloin tasted great but was literally 2 thin slices worth of food. Our 3rd course (dessert) were laughable in size, I've attached images. Definitely not $70 worth of food. So maybe the lack of food was made up for by the ambience, experience, and service right? No. The live music for a romantic Valentine dinner was heavy guitar riffs with the amplifier on the loudest possible setting. People were asking to be moved from the music source but there simply was no where for them to go. It felt more as if we were trying to eat at a concert instead of enjoy romantic music in background as we converse and enjoy a meal. There were broken wobbly tables and because of this the couple next to us just got up and left. And instead of closing the table off or fixing it they just sat the next party there for them to deal with the same problem. I had to change my opinion about Post Oak Grill. In the last three-five years, when we have come here for lunch or dinner, it has been very good. But this last Thanksgiving, it was terrible. Their advertised menu included smoked salmon with fixings for the appetizer, rack of lamb and paella for entrees. Unfortunately there was no salmon or rack of lamb. And the paella was totally taste less. The waiters and waitresses tried to explain that they had worked tirelessly to get the menu done but supply chain issues got to them and they did not have what they advertised. For $60/per person charge, I expected a phone call advising us that their advertised menu was not available in case we wanted to cancel. No such luck. In the past they have been very good so I won't totally stop going there but I will have to verify from now on that they will have what they advertise before I make reservations. Very classy American restaurant. When I walked into the restaurant, it's very dark inside and has a fancy atmosphere. They have lunch specials, which has an appetizer (soup or salad), an entree, and a dessert for a reasonable price, around $25. They serve you a bread basket, and oh man I loved their cheese balls!! I ordered chicken pasta. The chicken was very tender and juicy, but the pasta was extremely salty!!! Noodles were very dry and no sauce at all, more like a stir fried style. This is my secret place! But maybe not for long if you all read this, haha! Hubby and I came for a "quick" bite close to home. The location is literally off the beaten path, but convenient, with plenty of parking and valet. The interior is cozy, intimate, romantic and traditional. Lots of regulars from Tanglewood, Memorial and River Oaks. We enjoyed some of the best, high end type of dishes for basically $100 total. It's so reasonably priced, I almost feel like it's stealing! We enjoyed the filet mignon and grilled branzino dishes following a wedge salad. Everything was delicious and perfectly proportioned! We enjoyed a dessert too--the bread pudding--yum! The crab/shrimp bisque and flounder were my favorite of what we got. The desserts were nothing special, and I have a huge sweet tooth so that's usually my favorite part of a meal. The crab cake in the jumbo shrimp appetizer & the mushroom risotto were not good. As far as the service, the hostess and waiter were really nice, but the service was slow and they said it was because it was so busy that night, which I understand. Did have free parking in the back which was nice, but then you walk in and have to find your way to the front by the hostess. I made a reservation for my elderly parents two weeks ago for a special Valentines dinner. It takes them alot of effort to get dressed and go out to celebrate something special. As they showed up on time for the reservation that was confirmed, They waited more than an hour for their table. My Mom said the host told her they overbooked reservations and didn't seem to care that they were waiting. They unfortunately left without a nice dinner and not able to get in anywhere else for a nice meal. I am so disappointed in how Post Oak grill handled the situation especially for an older couple. Thanksgiving buffet was a scam. No table time limits so people who sat down at 1130am were still there when the 130pm reservations arrived. Did not get seated for my 130 reservation until 220pm. With limited options for dining we had no choice but to wait. Once seated no server came to take drink orders for 10mins. Food was ok. Nothing is ever warm enough at a buffet. All sides were lukewarm or cold because they didn't have a cover on them and they were out of a couple during the entire stay. Will not be coming back to this restaurant again. The hostesses response to long time waits were we cannot make anybody get up from there seat. One hostess went ahead of the list and seated a couple ahead of us and when I confronted her she stated sorry sometimes we can't keep track of who comes in at what time and order even though the main hostess Nicole took down people's name when they came in. Went there without reservations late on a Friday evening. Restaurant was closed due to a private party. But Lo and behold we could be seated in the bar area. Awesome! In we went. They were so busy it was impossible to find a waiter after being ignored by the bartender. We snatched a walking by staff member who ended up waiting on us. So there we were, being serenaded by the music from the private party enjoying wonderful food and our evening. The portions seemed small, but were actually more than enough. Had one of the best cosmopolitans ever. So kudos to the bartender no longer upset that she ignored us earlier lol. I loved seeing the team work between staff members. Although we had a waiter, diff people ended up coming by, waiting on us making sure all was ok. The blond lady who I'm guessing was a manager was fantastic the perfect hostess! made everyone feel welcome. We weren't part of that party but she treated us like we were royalty. Don't come here for a busy day like Valentines Day! You would think it was their first holiday as a restaurant by the way it was handled. Don't let the lack of management here ruin your special day. I'm not one to leave negative reviews, but my and many many other's experience yesterday felt like it needed to shared. We watched 5+ separate parties leave even though they had confirmed reservation and more than I could count wait well over an hour and a half past their reservation time to be seated. Any restaurant owner and manager should know how holidays like Valentine's day work and that you can't book tables expecting dinners to last 30 minutes. It is extremely obvious that who ever own this place either isn't present or doesn't care. No one ever approached the lobby or tables to apologize or explain. My wife and I waited 45 minutes past our reservation time to be seated and were actually pleasantly surprised due to the fact that there were over 20 other people waiting shoulder to shoulder in a very small lobby. Many of those people also had a reservation at the same time and some were even there before us. Those were the people that didn't leave upon learning that their confirmed reservation was being scratched because they made it the day of or the day before and Post Oak Grill couldn't honor it although the reservation went through or the people that saw the crowded mismanaged restaurant and left to eat elsewhere. The woman working the front was nothing short of amazing and patient while receiving constant calls and consistent 20-30 people complaining to her for hours while they awaiting to be sat well over an hour after their "reservation. The best thing about my experience here was the excellent service, the lovely ambience, and the relaxed atmosphere. The valet was extremely friendly and everything was well maintained. Now to talk about the food: it was passable. The complimentary bread with butter and duck pate was okay. It was neither delicious nor distressfully distasteful. One of my dinner companions ordered off of the Houston Restaurant Weeks menu. My other dinner companion and I did not. We ordered entrees for dinner and decided not to get an appetizer because we didn't want to fill up on that. This was a mistake. We had to wait to be served our food until my friend who ordered from the HRW menu had been served both her salad and her appetizer. Only when she was served our entrée were we served along with her. I found this to be extremely frustrating. I understand their logic but I was hungry and didn't appreciate having to wait that long for my food. That said, the wait staff were lovely and made sure we were doing well repeatedly. Now for the meals themselves: we had (off of the HRW menu) the Hoisin glazed baby lamp lollipop, the healthy chicken salad, the chicken rollatini and the surprise trio dessert. Off of the regular dinner menu, we had the pasta diablo and the Hoisin glazed baby lamb lollipops. My dinner companions enjoyed their selections. I did not. My pasta diablo was not what I would expect from such an establishment. The pasta wasn't done right. My shrimp were not fresh. I'm not sure if this is because of the recent events in Houston but my food was not what I wanted. The sauce itself was barely passable. Though I didn't personally really enjoy the experience, my dinner companions did. As previously stated, I quite enjoyed the restaurant and the staff there a lot. Do yourself a favor go elsewhere, really anywhere.. Staff is completely incompetent, from the person answering the phone, to the kitchen, to the front of house staff. We get a ton of catering from here and every other order from them (and we do THOUSANDS of dollars of business there monthly) is wrong, or they forget something, or they screw something up beyond comprehension. Today several entrees missing, our order was not correct (no real surprise). I really should send them a bill for my gasoline having to make several trips there because of their ineptitude is beyond annoying, and poor business. Clearly they have no appreciation for regular customers like us.. Personally tired of disappointing our clients because they (Post Oak Grill) can't or won't do their jobs, there is no excuse for this level of incompetence. Worse half the employees there don't even speak English, so unless you're a Spanish speaker best of luck communicating with these folks in English. For the price they're charging they should have competent employees and good reliable service, and worse than that the food quality is mediocre at best, avoid anything crab unless you want to be reminded of a bait shop. Maybe if you dine it may be okay, but for take out/catering these people make McDonalds look like professionals -- absolutely pathetic. read more

My family and I came here for HRW 2017. We made a reservation for 6:15 and so the restaurant was fairly empty when we came in. Beautiful chandeliers inside. After we were seated, I noticed a bug in front of me. It wasn't a roach, but it was a pinky nail sized black bug. I asked to be moved to a different table b/c I thought it was gross. It seemed to be from outside, the restaurant was clean so I didn't think much of it, could have come from someones clothing or what not. What I didn't like was that they didn't seem to think it was a big deal. I actually had to be the one who asked to move tables and no manager or anyone came over to apologize. For a restaurant of that caliber, I would expect that. The food. Apps were good. The bisque has a very rich crustacean flavor. The fried oyster was delicious, and the salad was good. The ceviche was ok. The lamb was surprisingly good. Entrees were meh. The trout had some sauce on it that basically is the chili sauce sold in the bottle in asian markets. I don't think it complimented the fish well b/c it was overly sweet and the fish wasn't salted enough either. the filet with mini lobster was meh too b/c the lobster was very fishy, like almost as if it weren't fresh at all. The filet was actually pretty good and cooked how we asked. The salmon was cooked well and seasoned well. My gripe about the sides were that on both fish dishes the rice was extremely mushy. Risotto should have a certain texture, but if its that mushy it usually means that they made a load of the rice and then reheated it. The desserts were also I felt just okay. The fruit tart was sad. It was basically just whipped cream with fruit on it. The trio dessert was better, and the champagne sorbet was good. Service wise, it was also just okay. Nicer restaurants are usually on top of water refills but there were 3x when I really wanted water, and no one would make eye contact or check on us.
