We started with Positive Pets when our Irish Doodle was just shy of 7 months old. She has now just turned 9 months. She has learned all of her commands and does them with verbal commands or, with hand signals only. She starts the Distractions classes next and we have every confidence that she will also pass these with flying colors. We have had nothing but a positive experience and highly recommend Positive Pets for any new pet owner. After having read through some of the not so positive reviews, I have to say that some of them made me laugh....does any responsible pet owner really believe that you can simply send your pup to a dog training school and do nothing on your own and expect a perfectly trained dog to be the result? Seriously?? You MUST do the homework! Regularly and consistently! It's called, "putting In the effort!" I'm just amazed at some...they wouldn't think of sending their toddler child to a school for 15 hours over three weeks and expect to get a child back that would be perfectly behaved every day and consistently do everything that is asked of them with no effort on the part of the parents....yet, they will brag that their pet is also a "member of the family". For those looking for a safe, caring, and professional dog training school you can't do better than this one. Our trainer is Giovanni. He is wonderful. That said, they are all very experienced and give every owner and pup their best. There are several different programs you can purchase but, again, I emphasize...you must practice at home what you and your pet learn in class if you expect to have a well behaved, happy, pet that is a pleasure to be around. read more

These guys are excellent! I've put both of my terriers through their Super Dog program with great results. One of my dogs had major aggression issues. I always felt like the entire staff was there to support us. We're going through our Advanced Off Leash classes now, I love that from the gal at the front desk, to the trainer there for private lessons all greet my dogs and me by name. Talk about value for the dollar. We initially met with Positive Pets in our consultation for puppy training but when a family vacation coincided we ended up doing the immersion training with boarding. While we were gone we got some beautiful photos and even a couple of videos of our pup learning some great basic commands that we hadn't mastered in our self instruction at home. After returning home there was an in depth meeting to cover the training our fur baby had while we were away. Included in the package we get ongoing training. We had private classes where I learned to be consistent and understand how dogs learn. After completing the private classes we went to a group beginners class where we covered things like heal, sit, stay and place (where you can ask your dog to be when, for example, someone comes to the door so your dog isn't vying for the door as someone comes in). We are now in the advanced distraction training where we are learning how to heal off leash, she can obey commands when I'm not right next to her, return to me when I call her, lay under my legs when I'm at an outside dining experience and not be distracted by other dogs or surroundings. We have had some wonderful and patient trainers. My favorites have been Britta and Taz. We are still in a group class and when we are done with this class we might do the tricks class. Our other classmates are wonderful and off the bat we have something in common, we love our dogs. You do need to practice at home, there is no "miracle" that is going to have your dog obeying like Lassie (if you're old enough to know who that is) without practicing. The trainers are genuinely caring and help with on the spot corrections. They ask for and answer questions during every session. I even texted Taz after our darling pup chewed the banisters and baseboards in our home after being unattended at home for a couple of hours. She went above and beyond by texting me back, letting me know we had done the right thing by not punishing our sassy pup (because she wouldn't have understood the reason for the punishment), gave us some ideas to implement at home and has even followed up with me about our battle of the wills at home. Yes, it feels expensive up front but I cannot stress what a value you get from that investment. I cannot believe how much we have gotten from our weekly trainings and the payoff it has had in our family and our home. If you were to pay for each class anywhere separately, I shutter to think how much it would be. There is even the option of going to the Saturday class in Boise if you're schedule allows for formal training twice a week. And you can tell how much the people care from the people at the desk to the trainers and their hard work in all their classes. This place is amazing. read more

We took our nine month old English Labrador there for two weeks. We were amazed at the difference in him in such a short time. Currently still attending classes with him and work with him at home. The instructors have been fantastic! Thanks Britta! After 21 years in Law Enforcement and being around K-9's, these instructors know there stuff. People must realize, not only must you're dog learn, YOU must learn too! They are very helpful with that. Pay attention to them, just don't "Hope for the best!" Hope is not a tactic, training is. I ended up calling them this morning and a girl in a childlike voice answering the phone offered a group consultation. We ended up taking all three of our dogs in for classes. The results from board training combined with the on going group classes make their package prices affordable and a good value. Positive Pets Dog Training is a top-notch outfit. The facility is clean and the support staff are extremely nice and welcoming. My trainer, Donny was outstanding from the first class to the last one. He explained concepts in a very clear concise manner, then followed up by demonstrating the concept with either one of his dogs or one of the dogs enrolled in the class. He was very patient and professional with all attendees and dogs and provided positive feedback. Clearly he is very good at training and it shows. The one amazing thing for me was to watch all the dogs improve dramatically over the six week period. My dog in particular, an aussie is very high strung. She went from the "wild child" in the class to a much better behaved dog that was able to contain some of her excitement and channel it into positive behavior. The entire $3,000 experience was unpleasant. Our dog was partially trained, at best, not even taught to 'lay down' at all. After 3 weeks of their intensive program there was very little to show for it but two pages of directions on how to train your dog. At the end of the 3 week course and picking up our dog, it didn't even know to 'heel'; we were disappointed to say the least. They rely heavily on shock collars for the training, something that can be used sparingly, or not. They do have a purpose, but it may not be suitable for every dog....or owner. We didn't bother complaining too much, but just wrote-off the $3K as a bad choice and told them we wouldn't return. They never asked why. I wish not for this to reflect upon the trainers themselves, but for the management and the direction of the operation that the trainers must follow. This isn't our first experience with an expensive 3 week training course for our dogs, but this was the least effective. With our previous training facility there was one follow-up visit by the assigned trainer to our home, and that stubborn Pitbull was amazing to watch, and still was six years later. But back to Positive Pets Training, we have disposed of the shock collar and trained our Shepherd ourselves with great success. Before using this training facility, a dog owner may want to explore all the options available. read more

I would highly suggest NOT signing a contract with this business. First, I brought my little dog in for training for some resource guarding behavior. He is a puppy, and she recommended the use of e-collars. I said absolutely NOT. And did some further research. ANY training center that does not use positive reinforcement only, especially on an 11 month old Havanese, is not what I want for my pet. She pushed and pushed quite hard. Never looked at my dog during the consultation. Shoved an iPad in my face with hard sales tactics. I signed and spoke with my Havanese club who gave me advice based on new opinions on behavioral modifications on dogs. I spoke with another trainer and decided she was a better choice. Positive Pets refused to refund my money! Had to go through the run around for a week, wouldn't refund on my card, insisted I come in to pick up a CHECK. All to try and sell me again. Recently, my wife and I adopted an adorable mutt. We fell in love with his friendly personality but unfortunately he was difficult to control when walking on a leash and when he got distracted. Positive Pets have changed our lives! Not only have they Instilled confidence in our dog - they have also given us as owners the ability to be successful dog owners in whatever situation we are in. Since we are older, I was worried that our dog would accidently injure my wife when they were out walking. That fear is gone! It was also very embarrassing when we had company and the dog was too exhuberant - almost knocking over our guests! He now goes to his Place until he is invited to meet people coming to our home.
