VERY disappointing, standard basic fundamentals (dog whisperer type) were fine and reinforced; however, the target/purpose for our engaging with training was NOT adequately addressed. Much wasted time and money sadly. Our "trainer" advised us that the owner/manager "David" decided to change our final session meeting from the park to our home/neighborhood, which would NOT serve our dog or us well for our expressed purpose of this "training" so we declined to waste our time further. We had already wasted the money. It is also important to match the trainer with the best/right experience for specific training needs and sadly, this was obviously not done either. Save the Mailmen was a GREAT fit for us and our mini Aussie! We did not know how to train our brand new puppy and felt overwhelmed and befuddled after reading a hundred internet advice websites. We decided the best choice for us was to hire the kind of trainer that knows what he/she is doing and talking about. After reading his website and FB page, we decided on David and group! Authoritative? YES PLEASE! Give it to us straight and tell us how to get this biting little fireball under control but still maintain his joyful, playful nature! David and group were very helpful in teaching us how to teach our puppy, all right here in our home, one on one. David was the right mix of authoritative and loving to our dog Baxter, who looked forward to seeing him at the front door! We are now one session away from finishing the "puppy package" and it has been worth every cent. I began my experience with Save the Mailmen BEFORE training/consultation actually began. I called David (the owner) after my five month old Cocker Spaniel; Ollie growled at me. (it was NOT a puppy growl) I realized later that it was my fault as I was getting frustrated after several days of unwanted behavior, and my dog sensed it and reacted to me. David came to my home that same day on his own time to do a brief assessment of Ollie. His initial assessment was that my husband and I were not the right parents for Ollie, and he suggested we should consider re-homing him. I must have looked pathetic, as my hand was shaking as he suggested what to write in our ad. I told him my husband and I have never given up on a dog. David did say that Ollie did have the aptitude to learn and then suggested that he would have our trainer Angela Shelly reassess Ollie after two training sessions and we'd go from there. This was an unscheduled assessment, and David ended up staying for three hours to learn more about my dog and my home life. Fast forward two months later, we have just completed our training. I was actually sad that Angela didn't have any more scheduled training with Ollie. Over the training with Ollie, my friendship with Angela grew. What I loved is the flexibility of training. One week, I didn't feel like my dog had progressed well, and asked if we could wait until the following week. The scheduling is always flexible depending upon what is going on in your own home or the trainers. Another thing I liked is Angela's support if I needed to modify parts of the training. Once a customer, your trainer is always available via text/calling. I was a customer BEFORE training began, and you'll love having the training at your home. I had the unpleasant experience of meeting with this trainer. He showed up at my house unexpected 2 hours early for the appointment and when my husband pointed that out to him, he insisted that it was the right time. He proceeded to be rude and and overbearing through out the entire appointment. He never explained what his training techniques are. But, by his condescending attitude and lack of regard and respect he showed towards me and my husband, I wouldn't expect good treatment from him toward my dog. It seemed his approach was to be forceful and to bully his way through. The arrogance and conceit displayed by this man was nauseating. He insists that every thing has to be his way and if not then you are wrong and he is actually spiteful about it. He seems to think he is the only one on the whole earth that knows anything about dogs. And he actually shows that he has a very negative attitude about people and their dogs. The whole time that he was here, he was looking at his phone, acting like he was such a important person that he could not even give us his attention, except to make insulting and critical remarks, like that was going to make us think we really needed him. What a jerk. After wasting an hour of my time and having to deal with his delusions about himself, he then tells me he would charge me $899 for 5 lessons. My dog is already trained for most of the things he thought he would push on me and the one thing I did need help on, he did not address. Obviously, he did not feel the need to explain to me the training technique. He was not honest or upfront about anything. I never really felt like I knew for sure what I would be getting for my money or that he would care. I would never trust this man with my dog. He had his assistant do a test with my dog where the assistant snapped the lease, while it was attached to my dog while my dog was sitting with his focus on her, to see how he would react. My dog does not fight putting the lease on, he trusts me, but a few more times of this treatment by these people, I can tell you he would resist, because he is not a stupid animal, like this trainer kept telling me over and over, how stupid dogs are. It was not explained to me that they were going to do this to my dog, and I was offended that they thought they had the right. He then told me that my dog passed the test with flying colors and that he was a very smart dog with a very good disposition. I had a very sick feeling that would no longer be the case if I allowed this trainer any further access to my dog. At any rate, I'm sure he will justify anything I have to complain about, as it being my fault or something wrong with my dog. I called another trainer and within 5 minutes of explaining the help I needed, the trainer offered training for my needs with 7 sessions and the trainer would come to my home and go to various locations with me for training, all for $200. And, the technique was explained, which is acceptable to me. I never write reviews, but the meeting with Save the Mailman trainer was really disturbing to me and I felt the need to say something. read more

We are SO happy with the decision to use Save The Mailman for our first family dog. We got Penny (and had our first consult with Save the Mailman) at about 10 weeks old as a gift for our 13 year old son who had been researching how to own and train a dog. We were immediately impressed with the level of professionalism when David and Ami came into our home. They listened to our story and what we were hoping to gain out of training for our dog, specifically that we wanted someone who was willing to work with our son as well as my husband and I. They were very straightforward and honest with the training method, program, and pricing. From that day on, and over the next 6 months, they were always available via phone/email/text to help us with any issues or questions about our new puppy. Ami went out of her way to check in with us regularly and was always flexible when we needed to reschedule sessions. Every session was well-run and we never felt rushed. I appreciated that they took time to show us a new concept and then work with both my son, and then myself, to make sure we all understood how to carry it out.
