Emerald Kennels has been a saving grace for us. Our dogs can be very high energy and being able to bring them in for doggy day camp is an absolute game changer! They come home tuckered out and well behaved. We always receive a nice report from the staff. I don't see how you could go wrong with such great prices and such amazing staff. read more

We were extremely pissed off in the last boarding stay for our dog that was booked 8 nights. After drop-off, we checked the cameras to make sure we could see him but was having trouble connecting through their app. Upon calling the business, was informed that the cameras haven't been working for 'several days', but to call back within the next day or 2 for an update. Was also informed at this time that the ownership had just changed. Called back 2 days later to followup and check in on him. Was told it was still down but that the owner had contacted someone to take a look at it. They were going to validate with the owners about the cameras status and give us a call back. A voicemail the following day to us said they have someone looking into it but not ETA. The day before we were to do the pickup, we recieved an email that he has been poking his nose through the kennel and some fur and skin had scraped off but it wasnt an emergency. When we did the pickup, the side and tip of his nose did have skin scratched off but the top of his snouts fur was hard and caked over. It looked as if it had been that way for several days prior. I asked about the cameras and the person at the desk said it was still down and pointed to a notice taped to the desk. I asked if it was there at drop off, knowing it wasnt, and the response was it went up just a few days before. When I mentioned there should have been some type of notice given either ahead of time and/or at drop off that it was down, they tried to say it wasnt down but just glitchy. I let her know that wasnt what the person over the phone said, that it was already down for several days so we were being told 2 different and conflicting things. He has never been so stressed out previously being in a kennel that he would poke and scratch and injure his own nose/snout. When we got home and finally was able to clean/remove the caked off fur you can see just how badly his snout had been scatched. There are more cuts under other spots of his snout that are still matted over but taking it slow as to not stress him out even more. Over the years, we have boarded 3 dogs here and this stay is the most disturbed. We understand there are a lot of animals that are being looked after at any given time, but the lack of care, miscommunication and misinformation is unacceptable. To leave a loved one in someone elses care and return to them being hurt and distraught is truly heartbreaking. read more

Super bummed to even write this.. We have taken 4 dogs and a cat here over the last 10 years. Our two dogs who passed came here when we traveled. One vacation we were gone 18 days. Always a good experience but yes, sometimes came back with kennel cough, goopy eyes and thinner. We now have brought our next two dogs here a few times. This last time for 8 days in August while we were on vacation. I watch the online live feed often and once in 8 days saw one of my dogs alone for more than 20 minutes in 104+ heat pacing to tiny shade spots. He has to be separated because he is intact. I checked the feed more frequently and never saw him again. At Pick up we noticed one dog coughing on his way out. The handler immediately said he just started this because he was pulling. I knew it was kennel cough but wasn't worried been down this road a lot with boarding and it goes away. 2 months later and $1000 in medical bills one of our dogs still has this respiratory infection. Zero energy, coughs all night...3 vet visits later, 3 rounds of antibiotics and narcotic cough syrup and another $200 spent today. Not sure we will ever feel confident sending our animals back here. read more

This is one of the more affordable kennels and usually has room for boarding. However every time my dogs stay there they come home thin and sick. My dog was there for 17 days I told them to feed him two cups over his usual daily amount. Picked him up he's sick and very thin. He has some sort of respiratory and eye infection (getting in with vet soon) For $1070 (they also overcharged me currently trying to get a refund) I'd expected better care. They also have a lot of young people who have no knowledge of dogs working with them. The small dog room has couches in it and the dogs rip them apart and eat the foam and batting which can cause impaction and death staff just allows it to happen even using the stuffing as a toy for the dogs encouraging the behavior. We have now taken our dog here 6 times and despite being vaccinated and healthy as can be he's come home with kennel cough twice. He's now currently at the ER fighting for his life because of double pneumonia induced by kennel cough. My dog, Rusty was a fan of Emerald Kennel until he passed away. He was so excited to be there, nearly couldn't wait to get out of the car to see his friends, both four legged and two legged. Now, I have a new buddy, Doc, who is a new fan. I so appreciate being able to bring him to a place where he can play all day, be supervised, nap, and maintain his 'good boy' status. Im not too familiar with dog kennels but from what I do know is that our experience was AMAZING!!! We were leaving for Seattle over Christmas and totally forgot that we needed to board our dog. Emerald Kennels was booked out, rightfully so but the owner, Vince was SUPER accommodating and was able to squeeze in our bulldog over Christmas. Honestly don't know what we would have done without his help. They went above and beyond taking our 60 pd UN-NEUTERED Olde English Bulldog. We've been home for three days now and our dog is a new dog. He is SO chill and relaxed especially with all that testosterone He has been walking perfectly on the leash, listening better... I don't know what they did but I will be taking Blue back to Emerald Kennels every time we go out of town! Super friendly staff! Love this place! read more

It's hard to find a doggy day care establishment. All dog owners want to have a great place to take their fur babies to get all their energy out and get socialized. Emerald Street Kennels is NOT the place to go. I have had so many issues with this company. They have webcams so you can keep an eye on your pet and watch them have fun. Well, that only works if the staff actually let your dog in the play rooms. MULTIPLE TIMES my dog has been kept in the back, most likely in a kennel, for hours with minimal play time. My dog is not neutered (he is intact as the staff says). I understand the policy of swapping other intact dogs out to make sure all dogs are safe and no fights breakout. However, when my dog only gets 20 minutes of play time in a 4-6 hour period I get frustrated. Just to clarify, this happens all the time. It's not just that though. I have taken my dog to this establishment to be boarded while I am on vacation. One my most recent vacation, my dog did not get fed. All the food that I packed and desperate out for each meal was given back to me when I picked up my dog. Oh wait! There's more. Dogs need to be groomed. Three times I have taken my dog to Emerald street Kennels and asked for my pets nails to be trimmed and three times they forgot. All this being said I have decided to find a different way for my dog to get socialized and get his energy out. I am so frustrated, disappointed, and FURIOUS about the care my dog has received from Emerald Street Kennels. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT NO ONE TAKES THEIR PETS TO EMERALD STREET KENNELS. read more

After completing the mandatory temperament test and passing, we boarded our small dong here for the week while we were out of town. Despite advertising cameras to check in on our dog, the cameras were down all week and we could not. The day we were to pick up our 7 year old dog, we got a call that he was caught "in a scuffle" and had some marks on his ear and back. We immediately went to get him and he was too terrified to come out of the crate they had put him in. Not getting many details about what happened when we asked again, we were told by an employee from the back that he was caught between 2 dogs that were often aggressive with each other. We took our dog to the vet as recommended by the staff. He had 3 puncture wounds. One on his ear which required stitches, one on his side, and a severe one a few inches long on his hind leg. These required surgery to repair, it was that bad. After bringing before and after pictures as well as detailed reports of injuries and treatments it took them almost 48 hours to respond. We weren't looking to tear anyone down or make any fuss. The right thing to do would have been to pay for the injuries and medical treatment that were required. This business did not. They did a partial reimbursement for an expensive procedure. Our dog is not the same dog that we left them with!Highly disappointed in the outcome. read more

I love this place and even better it's Charlie Girls favorite spot too. I took Charlie Girl last year for Day Camp. The staff is amazing and so helpful. They answered all questions and concerns I had. I love the fact that you can go on line and see the kids with their web cams. We have become quite the regulars. I've seen my share of doggie daycares over the years having an almost 11 year old GSP mix. We loved our place in Seattle but checked out several places before finding "the one" so we didn't think we would find a place we liked as much when we moved to Boise. I stand corrected. Emerald Street Kennels has been excellent with our two dogs (we added one when we moved here). I love that they not only sort the dogs by size but sometimes by energy level. Our oldest can get grumpy and wants to rest her hips so they are always good with putting her in a less playful group while our 2 year old GSP romps and rolls enough to get her tired, which is difficult to do. The facilities are clean and the handlers are nice, I trust them with my dogs. I LOVE that the outdoor play area isn't dirt. In the summer they set up pools for the dogs to cool off in. The webcam can get a wee bit addictive. Our dogs are both fans and so are my husband and I. read more

Sucks.... This is a very unprofessional business. I schedule a grooming appointment with a particular groomer but was not told she was no longer emplyed there, UNTIL the replacement called me telling me she was unable to perform the services I had scheduled my dog for. When I went to pick up my dog, the woman at the desk was unconcerned that I was angry. No apologies at all. To top it off, when they brought my dog to me, it was the wrong dog! This is the second time Marvin, Maya, and Mandu have stayed at ESK, and the second time was very concerning. We left clear feeding instructions, and provided extra food, yet half way through their stay, we got a phone call that their food was out. We were NEVER told that we should pack more food for them because they get played so much during the day. This placed us in a difficult situation of whether or not to use the food ESK provide or let our dogs go a whole day without food. Marvin came home with diarrhea. The first time they stayed, they all got kennel cough. There were no report cards either. The second time, no body told us about their weight-in/weight-out, but we got report cards this time. It just seems like the quality/staff training is not very consistent. I understand they have high traffic but still, giving it that they have been open for business for years, I expect something more professional and high quality. read more

This Is a hard review to post because most of the handlers are great and genuinely Care about my dog... Unfortunately it has happened a few too many times where my dog was either left in his kennel by himself for over an hour of feeding time, or completely by himself while everyone else ate and the attendants were nowhere to be found . I bring my dog here to socialize a few times a week for the last couple of months. It really hurts to feel like hes just being neglected. The last straw was when I took him in the other day, he played for about a half an hour then they took all the dogs to eat and he was left by himself. They have webcams so I can see him by himself crying and jumping on the windows. I have had staff lie straight to my face where they say he played and had a lot of fun when he was completely alone. They have lost his Kong twice. I have spoken to the manager about leaving him by himself because I could do that for free at home. They could never give me a straight answer about where he was or how long he's been in lunch when I couldn't see him for over an hour. A lot of times they have way too many dogs in one room. Emerald Kennels is the "go to" place for my huge Shepherd/Rhodesian and my little Sammy a Border Collie mix rescued from the Boise streets. My cat, Bobo, is a regular as well. We have been clients for over three years and my dogs go about once a week. They have ALL been boarded several times and have received the best attention. Better than two other services in Boise where I lost one cat and one dog, a beautiful German Shepherd...as I have had these losses, you will expect me to be pretty careful. ESK is a wonderful boarding and grooming facility. They haven't been opened very long, less than a year. I recently took my cat to board there while I was away for the holidays. They have large indoor and outdoor areas for dogs; when I dropped off my cat, there were a lot of dogs both inside and out. They have a great sized cattery that has shelves on different levels of the room for cats to climb, large cupboards for them to hide in and sleep, as well as a variety of toys for them to play with. My cat is naturally very good and lovey with people, but hasn't had too much experience with other cats. The boarders told me she got along very well with the other cats, gave them a lot of attention and even nurtured a kitten there. That's the equivalent of a babysitter saying your child behaved! They were so sad to see her go and loved her. For the holidays, they had Santa come in and take pictures with the pets and gave me a copy! It was such a fun and cute idea. I will definitely go back to ESK and recommend anyone else do so as well. I don't have a dog that I can take there or leave any review, but the dogs I saw there were very happy and playful, and looking at their pictures on their Facebook page, they have a fun time there as well. They offer doggie day care and grooming, at very reasonable prices. read more

We took our 2 year old black lab here twice. Once was for a 3 day weekend stay in Oct 2014, then again this month for 7 days he stayed at Emerald Street Kennels. He was sick when we got him back in October. I had assumed it was a slight case of kennel cough or he was just more active then. When we picked him up this time, on 1/8/15, he had lost 15 lbs and is still sick today as I am writing this 11 days later. He got a respiratory virus and a virus in his eyes which we hare having to treat with antibiotics. It's not kennel cough. We will never take our dog here again. I would not recommend that you do, either. After writing the above review, we were contacted by Emerald Street Kennels. They agreed to pay our vet bill in trade for me updating this review. On 1/28/15 they sent a check for slightly more than vet bill with a letter saying that they were reimbursing us for the kennel cost instead. The letter said the reason that they were doing this is because I am lying about my dog's weight loss and this could happen at any kennel. So... 2 stars it is. Thank you for paying our dog's vet bill. After 2 weeks of antibiotic pills and eye drops, our dog is back to normal weight and activity. We are happy to have this behind us and move on. read more

Not going to lie, I'm sad that my dog had the experience she did. I tipped before seeing my dog with a bite mark on her face. Picked her up at nearly 5 PM and the person who brought her out said she didn't notice since it "must have happened today". 5 PM folks. I asked about the "friends" she made on her report card, and they couldn't pinpoint the dog, or dogs, that she befriended. My dog had an active bleed, and it "wasn't noticed". I feel bad writing a bad review, but this is not ok. It takes a certain level of trust to leave your fur babies somewhere, but I will look elsewhere next time. read more

This place was dirty. We made a reservation for our small dog then went and check the place out. Strong stench of dog and urine as soon as you enter the door. Like you need to hold your breath kind of stench. Taken down a dark unlit hallway. A couple dogs in the playroom which was also dark and unlit. Main Kennel room full of many large barking dogs, very loud. He didn't take us any further than the first dog near the door. We didn't think our little guy would like it there. Asked us if he is crate trained. We said yes. Then he took us to an area upfront where there were about 15 small dogs in small crates. dogs looked depressed. Wet mop and bucket on the floor. For this they want $40 a night for your dog to sit in a small crate where he can't even move around. He said that he would put our dog behind the front desk where there is a bigger area so he could move around. Yeah right. I bet you tell everyone that I thought to myself. There's no way I would put our little guy there for a week, he would be so traumatized he would be a different dog by the time we picked him up. I think they have way too many dogs there, way more than they should have. We actually ended up canceling our vacation rather than board the dog here. read more

My cat is easily frightened and gets upset enough during car rides that she often will urinate in her carrier. I wouldn't force the issue of getting her groomed were it not for how badly her long fur gets matted and holds kitty litter in it, making her more unhappy. I have had her groomed several times at ESK and was very happy with how she was treated. ESK was sensitive to her anxiety, scheduling an appropriate, low animal volume time for her and the result spoke for itself - when I came to pick her up she was purring and rubbing up on the groomer. She looked wonderful and was very happy. I couldn't have asked for more. Since getting her groomed several times at ESK, I have recommended their services to friends (out of state students needing to travel back home for a few days) and was told "thank you" repeatedly for the quality recommendation. The negative reviews on this page are more indicative of the person writing them than the service provided at ESK. In other words, consider the source. First of all reading some of the one star reviews should not discourage you one bit! From my experience with Emerald Street Kennels those reviews are far from the truth. Yes we love our fur babies and no one could love them as much as ourselves but from my experience this place is the closest to being at home if not better for the interaction they have with the other dogs. Thank you for considering my Charlie's age and not putting him aside because of that, when I called to see how he was doing they quickly informed me (without having to call someone to ask) that he was doing great , and was maneuvering quite well with the other dogs as he is blind in one eye, she also mentioned he would get tired but just went and sat to the side and watched the others, I seriously got tears of happiness that he was so well taken care of. ESK is a fantastic business. My dog goes there every day and is always excited to go back. I read through some of the bad reviews people left and all I can say is that's too bad. A lot of those reviews are from years ago and a business can change a lot in a few years. I know, I run one. I always get reports if my dog had a problem that day. Even if it's for a scratch that she got at home. I also get them for little things like if she threw up some grass. Quit eating grass! The only time I was frustrated with the service was when my dog got kennel cough. But in their defense, as soon as they were aware that a dog had it they sent it home, cleaned the entire facility and posted warning signs. I blame the sick dog's dumb owner for putting all the other dogs at risk. ESK reacted fast and prepared for what they could. I would highly recommend their services. Whether you're leaving your pet there for the day or if you're leaving town for a week. I've always been satisfied. read more

The lady at the front desk was completely rude and had the worst attitude. She was so put out that we even walked in door. Apparantly I didn't have the paperwork they needed even though I emailed them a week before to find out what I needed to bring. The paperwork I did have was what I have taken to every other daycare we've ever been to and never had a problem. At least she could have been friendly and professional. Too bad I can't rate a zero !!! This place is trash, I left strict instructions, no swimming for my bigger double coated dogs, they wouldn't take the time to dry them, I didn't expect them to, so just don't let them swim, even wrote it on my day visit form. Came back, staff LIED to me, first they said only the older one swam, "but she only got in up to her ankles", both came out soaking wet, do I look that stupid I can't see a wet dog, so 3 hours after brushing and drying, I notice one of their collars are missing, called to see if they have it, nowhere of course !!! Its a collector collar from an event he attended. So, I asked who their owner is, "Vin", so I said I'm sure there's more to the name than that, "nope just Vin", so, I asked who do you report to, "Vin", so I said you have no idea who signs your paycheck or the last name of your employer, I was told "no, noone does". This place is trash, no supervision and the staff lies about care when it's right in front of the owner. I wouldn't take my dogs there again if their lives depended on it !!!!! read more

I've been bringing my dog Jayda here for more than a year for weekly doggie daycare sessions. She loves it, and they love her. The staff always knows us by name even if I don't remember their names! I also love that they can trim Jayda's nails while she's there. Saves me a separate trip to a groomer. read more

The facility is nice. They sort dogs well, offer many services, and offer ample play time for pooches. There's also a great webcam feature that allows owners to see their dogs at any time during business hours. Unfortunately, I can't take confidence in the care offered here anymore. I just returned from a 3-day trip to discover my dog was not fed at all on one of those days. I provided enough food as well as clear instructions (once a day in the morning), with each day's portion in its own bag. On returning, I was given back one of the three bags of food, and on asking about it, staff pulled out his feeding chart and found a big fat blank by his first morning there. Worse, the staff didn't seem to truly grasp the seriousness of the error. They apologized but ultimately seemed to brush it off as a thing that can simply happen. That does not make me feel better about boarding there again. Going to start shopping around for alternative facilities. TL;DR: if you just want a daycare place this is a great choice, but don't use it for boarding. read more

They have the worst receptionist EVER!!!!!! 50 percent of the time she just ignores me, the other 50% she extremely rude, and short. I brought my two dogs there, 3 times a week, and after a month dealing with the rude receptionist, I decided to find someplace else to take my pups. The rest of the staff seamed really nice, but I had to deal with that receptionist daily, and I didn't want to be around her, or have my pups around her. She has no business having a job that deals with the public or peoples pets. read more

My 4 dogs LOVE Emerald Street Kennels and the staff!!! We have been coming for years. It is very CLEAN, I love the hours, the staff are FRIENDLY and EXPERIENCED. The facility is huge and they separate the dogs by size/temperament which I really like. My pups come home happy. I use to take my pets to another local place and I was never really impressed until I found Emerald Street Kennels! I was also surprised to discover that they help out with a lot of foster groups and have helped saved numerous dogs and cats. read more

Our "crazy", lovable lab was fostered at ESK, so that's where we first met him. Since we have another kennel much closer to our home and had taken our previous dog there, naturally we went back. But we found out that our new crazy lab was just too much dog for the other kennel to handle. So we went back to Emerald Kennels and have been THRILLED with their facility, their staff and their willingness to take on the crazy antics of our beloved dog. I can't recommend ESK highly enough...the staff are caring and attentive, they "know" their animal guests and go out of their way to spoil them while in their care. The facility is over 10 miles from my house, but well worth the drive. Emerald Street Kennels is the best of the Treasure Valley! read more
