Because this new location is always so busy, we wrongly assumed it was good. Suffice it to say, their customer base must be based off folks with no taste buds or experience with good food. Pros: great interior, seemed clean. Cons: No kids menu, hotdog bun had seeds which anyone who ever has been around a kid knows that won't go over well, fries were very mediocre and not hot, ketchup tasted weird, honey mustard was gel like, not creamy. The breaded chicken sandwich was EXTREMELY oily and greasy, with no flavor, we couldn't eat it. Tea was basically water. Big waste of $. Have no idea what this place has going for it, but the 2 star review makes sense. read more

I'm writing this review from the drive through line. I paid for my food 20 minutes ago and still haven't received it. We didn't order anything special. No one has spoken to us. No update. Nothing. I don't know how this place will stay in business. Update - final time 32 minutes from order to receiving of food. No one even acknowledged the lengthy wait. Chili is not like your mom cooked watery and lacking on hamburger and beans. I guess I should have said no onions cause it's more like onion soup. Love Portillo's in the Chicago area, but this place is a mess. Don't try ordering online for curbside pickup. I've tried twice. The first time my order was 15 minutes later than scheduled. Tonight it was 30 minutes late. I finally went inside and asked where my food was. The guy looked inside a warming oven and it was sitting in there. He said it "just came out a couple minutes ago." Right. Note, I did text as soon as I arrived per instructions, and received a reply. Ended up with cold floppy fries (not sure what "well done" means when ordering online - apparently nothing) and the hotdog buns were totally mushy from sitting there so long with tomatoes. I was so excited to get a Portillo's in Springfield, but now I'm thinking I'll just visit ones when I'm in the Chicago area. This one's a bust. read more

Stop by to get some lunch @ 1245 There is one other car in the drive-through up at the window two workers outside hanging inside the other window I'm assuming talking to their other workers while I sit in the drive-through for almost 5 minutes waiting to give them my order these businesses continue to let careless worthless employees run down these establishments and it sad!!! I'm a long time Portillo's customer, but haven't eaten a one since leaving the Chicago area haven't eaten there in a while. This Springfield location in needs to get better fast! A couple of days ago I had my 3rd Italian beef that wasn't hot!! .... mozzarella was cold and looked like it was a last second decision ie "... Hey, throw some mozzarella on it quick" Even with the reduced lines in drive thru (less folks going, now) I just go to McD's next door to get something quick and hot. I have been getting their chopped salads since they opened and they were great! Within the last year they have raised their prices twice and reduced the amount of cheese and other ingredients which has been a great disappointment...not only that but the staff doing the preparations for the customers usually forget to put in the bread or the butter for the also reduced size of the banquet! The absolute worst customer service! Ordered Delivery for 5pm called back at 6 they said it was on the way. Called back at 6:45 asked for manager. He was insanely rude told me it's sitting ready to go but they don't have a driver. So I asked if he planned on delivering me two hour old food and he told me "he didn't know about that" he just knows it's ready. I asked for a refund and he put me on hold for another 20 minutes before the line disconnected. Had to call back another day where a female manager told me she wasn't going to help me until I said I would call corporate. Two weeks later they finally processed the refund. Decided to try this location out. Not impressed. We ordered inside. Shortly after several workers came in from the drive through and ordered. All of them received their food before us. Our food meat was dry and buns were soggy. Inside smelled of old burnt oil to the point it nearly made me sick. Just gross food overall. read more

I first encountered Portillo's in Chicago when a couple of work associates took me there. It was truly an experience, including getting out of the parking lot which required officers who apparently work the lunch shift there dealing with the traffic. So I was really excited when Springfield finally got it's own Portillo's. When if first opened, I just avoided it because you couldn't get anywhere near it. The drive through has remained busy at just about any hour during the pandemic, but once the indoor seating opened back up I've been a couple of times. Every time my order has been right, and the staff super nice. I'm looking forward to bringing my family to experience Portillo's next time they come to visit!! read more

I ordered from the Portillo's Favorite Five combo menu at the Springfield Illinois Portillo's, which clearly states "with small fries and drink" on it. The price of the combo & add ons are on it too. I ordered a #5 with peppers & made it large. When I paid for my order, the manager rung up the combo plus charged full price for the fries & large drink, which were included with the comb. I was unaware until I looked at the receipt while I walked to the pickup line. I immediately went back to the order line and informed the cashier/manager that the charges were incorrect. He told me that the meals are keyed in "a la carte" like the Chicago based company does because that's how they do it. I told him if that was the case, he needed to cover or cross out the prices on the menu board because it's deceiving & is false advertising. Even if paiding for everything individually, it still wouldn't cost $19 with adding peppers and making it large. After looking closer at the receipt, I discovered that I was charged for the higher priced #1 combo but received the #5 combo ordered. That's baffling. I'm in shock that one of my favorite places to eat ripped me off, deceived me and lied to me. I'm also wondering, how many other customers have been overcharged/ripped off besides me at this restaurant. Being a reasonable person, I called, filled out the survey on the receipt and filled out the online form that is on the Portillo's website and left my information at each of these to be contacted to discuss this situation but it's been a week now and no response. I guess no one is interested in the illegal bad practices that this manager and/or site is doing to the public. My advise is to avoid the Springfield Illinois restaurant unless you want to be robbed blind of your hard earned money. Especially with today's economics, every penny counts. read more

After living in the Chicago suburbs for seven years and loving Portillo's up there, I was greatly disappointed when I visited the drive through here in Springfield. I gave it three stars bc the kids outside during cold snowy weather were cheerful and courteous, but I specifically stated, "May I have a cheeseburger with nothing else on it, bc I am ordering it for my grandson who is super-picky." The girl said, "Sure!" She read back my order. There were only four cars in front of me, likely less traffic bc of the snow storm, yet I sat for 13 minutes before a polite young man brought me my order. I pulled around the other cars and left, just to find the cheeseburger was loaded with lettuce and tomato, but smothered in mayonnaise! McD's even gets what "nothing else on it" means! May not sound like a big deal, but have YOU tried rinsing mayo off a burger? So I ate the cheeseburger and it was cold and dry. French fries were cold and floppy. I'll stick to Chicagoland Portillo's going forward, unless I hear they've improved this one. smh read more

We decided to try this out to see what all the hype was. It's a new place in town and the lines have been long. For 2 adults and 1 child we spent $45. This seems very extreme for a "fast food" chain. We had 3 meals/combos. My husband had the big beef combo. This had no sauce and really could use some kind of dressing/sauce. I had the fried fish combo which was awful. The fish tasted like old grease. The onion rings were probably cooked in the same oil because they also tasted like old grease. Our grandson had a double burger combo that's $13.67 (they don't have any kids meals). The burger was very dry. Since everything is take out these days you can only trust that everything is in the bag. We get back to our hotel and we have no utensils for the cup of chili that by the way tasted like chili out of a can. We find out that the double burger was k my a single patty but we paid for a double. I'm not impressed at all for the money we paid. Needless to say this was our first and last time for this place. read more

I don't know what has happened but this portillios is not getting better. They have been open for a couple of months now and the mistakes keep happening. I've been here 6 times and 4 times my order has been wrong. The first couple of time I can understand new opening, training new employees understanding the culture, I get it. But I can't make excuses any more. Today I went thru the drive thru and there were only 4 cars deep so I thought they will get it right. I ordered 2 hot dogs no mustard and a big beef dipped with a cheese fry. I check to make sure I got my cheese sauce because last time they forgot. Cheese sauce was there so I thought good the order is correct. Wrong there was mustard on the hot dog and the beef was dry along with the bread. All I can say is you might want to slow the expansion into satellite markets until this gets fixed. read more

Drive thru is super slow. It's also annoying that they have people standing outside of the drive through to take your order... kind of seems pointless... like if they were inside working maybe the food wouldn't take so long? Their soda machine was broken so the only drink options they had were shakes. Then they up-charged for the shake I didn't want in the first place so I ended up paying $22 for a single fast food meal. Literally could have gone to a sit down steakhouse and paid less for the same thing. Seems kind of stupid that I have to pay extra when their machine breaks. I came when they first opened and it sucked so I was hoping it had gotten better by now but it hasn't. Probably won't give them another chance. Too many other places with better food and better service for cheaper. It's also in a really irritating location because it's drive through exit is right next to a busy intersection so you can end up waiting a long time to pull out of the parking lot. I just moved here a week ago and I'm from the Chicago area where we have portillo's. I had a craving for mostaccioli which I always get. When I went in there they informed me that they don't see that due to there not being a barnelli's which is a little disappointing but I understand. The staff were okay however we waiting around 15 minutes for our food and by the time we got it our milkshakes were sitting there melting. I noticed they changed their straws too so it was hard to mix, again that's not too big of a deal just an observation. The large fry I got was such a rip off, they changed the box it comes in so you get even less fries and the drink machine was horrible. We also asked the lady for a Dr Pepper before we ordered the drink and she gave us the cup without telling us that they didn't sell Dr Pepper. Not to mention our bill was over $30 and we did not order that much food. Way to expensive and the food was so different. VERY DISAPPOINTED!! read more

The place is Dirty, trash hanging out on the top of the trash cans, could not put trash in, had to set it on top, tables was dirty, (had to clean a table off before we sat down) rude employees, never acknowledge us with a hello or may I help you, it was like what do you want, then I had to tell her 4 times what we wanted, and the order was not complicated at all , basic chili cheese dog, 2 small fries, and 2 small drinks, what is so hard to screw This up? Then the girl forgot to give us our drink cups, and I asked the guy that gave us our food about not getting them, and I was not like, oh sorry about that, it was like a third degree about getting them, and the condiment bar was a total wreck nothing there but plastic ware, and it was totally disgusting and trashy. See a lot of employees standing and hanging around not doing nothing, they should have been out there taken care of the place, ie: cleaning tables, restocking condiment bar, restocking the napkins and taking the garbage out.
