Friendly staff, very yummy tasty sandwiches. We enjoyed the pork chop sandwiches so well that we went back through the drive through before closing to purchase another couple sandwiches. Definitely will hit up Pork Chop John's if in the area again.

We were looking for unique food driving down i-90 in western Montana and Pork Chop John's popped up on our search. I love a good pork tenderloin sandwich so I thought hey, might as well give the Montana version a try. When I visited for a weekend dinner, they only had the takeout window open. The weather was pretty nice still, so I didn't mind at all eating outside. As I was ordering, quite a few people lined up behind me on the otherwise empty street, which is always a good sign. Double Pork Chop Sandwich ($7.75) - Okay, so I didn't do any research at all before eating at Pork Chop John's except that they sold pork chop sandwiches. I thought they would be either Midwest Iowa/Indiana-style Pork Tenderloin Sandwiches (more likely), or Macau-style Pork Chop Buns (less likely). The pork chop sandwiches here are an entirely different beast. Firstly, instead of being a coarse breaded huge tenderloin, or a deep fried bone-in pork chop, this one is battered and tenderized to the gills. If you remove the batter, you can clearly see a large of amount of holes from a meat tenderizer all over the pork. I'm not sure how to describe the texture - it's kind of dense and it's so pounded that it's hard to identify the muscle fibers. The patty is super lean and has no evidence of fat or gristle. To be honest, I would kind of compare it to a McChicken patty, but made with pork and much denser and thinner. The taste isn't especially porky either. It's just kind of like generic meat taste? I don't know, but it's certainly interesting. The batter does add a nice crunch, and has a bit of cornmeal for texture. In terms of toppings, you get a choice and I went with "everything" which in this case included mustard and mayo to add creaminess and moisture, and some lettuce, pickle, onion, and tomato to balance the meat a bit. I must say that this is such an interesting way of preparing pork. (4/5) 10 Piece Pork Nuggets ($7) - I think it's just the same battered pork patty, but with the pork cut up into triangles like pizza and individually battered and fried. You can choose to get several dips on the side - the cashier recommended the special "white sauce" to go with these. It's basically like a slightly tangy sour cream, mixed with mayo, some allium, and fennel seeds. Quite yummy actually, and it goes very well with each piece of perfectly fried pork. (4/5) So yeah, the food at Pork Chop John's is definitely very unique. I still prefer a Midwestern pork tenderloin sandwich, but this one is interesting enough to try. I recommend it if you're ever in Butte.

This place was founded in 1924 and at that time he was selling these Pork Chop Sandwiches from the back of a wagon. In 1932 he opened the brick and mortar place that is still dishing out these sandwiches today. Not much has changed since then. It's a tiny place with a walk up window outside and a counter with 10 stools inside. Two ladies were running the joint when we walked in, 1 taking care of the 10 seat counter area and making shakes, the other taking care of the walk up window and cooking the food. They were a well oiled machine, very efficient. I ordered the single pork chop sandwich with all the toppings with French fries and my girlfriend ordered the grilled cheese. The French fries come in a bag, cooked to order and served up hot and crispy. The pork sandwich was a delicious combination of textures, flavors and temperatures. Hot, juicy, crispy pork with cool lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles topped off with mustard and Mayo. Fabulous, friendly service.. great food, freshly prepared at great prices.. yeah I'll be back when I visit Butte again.

Being a born and raised Butte boy, my opinion may be biased, but I don't care. If you don't like the Pork Chop, we can't be friends! :-D I will say, since Covid took the stage, this uptown location is FAR better than the one on the flats. In my day, both were exceptional. Not sure what the hell happened, but uptown rocks! My last visit up, there were two sisters working behind the counter. What a hoot they were. The type of service you just have to smile and enjoy. Now, the seating inside is VERY limited, but you have to go in here knowing the history of the place and how long it's been here. A place like this is something you just need to enjoy for the experience and imagine all the miners and such back in the day partaking of the delicacy of a deep fired sammich! Loaded is my style of choice. Not sure who the heck wanted Ketchup and or a fried egg on the menu as a choice :-D

I loved the staff and pork chop sandwiches, iconic, but beware... I think that it is deep-fried. So every 10 minutes after we ate it, my body began to regret it more and more. So this is not for the faint of heart, it's for the iron stomach of a Montanan. The ambience could be cooler it's truly a hole hole in the wall counter service only. -the oyg

We came down to Butte to have our dose of pork chop sandwich and the famous nuggets. The trip was definitely worth it. We came right on time before the line started, and we were able to sit inside. The service was fast, efficient, and friendly as always. Prices were very affordable. The inside dining room has a few bar stools and tiny space in between seats. Customers usually just order for take-out since it's always hard to find available seats, especially during lunchtime. You will always see the owner busy preparing the orders through the window or in the dining area.

Saw Pork Chop John's on a list of "The Best Sandwiches in Every State" and knew I had to stop on my way through Butte. The walk up window is a true one man show-- you place your order, customize your sandwich, and he makes it in front of you, packs it up, pay, and off you go. + pork chop sandwich (I got lettuce, tomato, pickles-- he said traditional is mustard and onion) + fries were hot, crispy and tasty + cheap prices - pork nuggets were meh - do not recommend - no bathroom. The Exxon around the corner had a very clean bathroom.

Big sandwiches. This traditional diner has been around for decades and the interior doesn't appear to have changed. Provides a good grease staple before drinking beers in uptown :) Staff is very friendly and very much a local feeling kind of place.

Meal. Their ranch was great with the fries.

We usually just pass through Butte and never stop downtown, but this time I'm glad we did! I stopped by before watching my son play football at Montana Tech Stadium, and the experience was fantastic. The service was great--my waitress checked in on me several times, and the nostalgic barstool counter added a charming touch. I ordered the double pork chop sandwich loaded with no changes, fries, and a soda--everything was delicious. The guy next to me added cheese, ham, and a fried egg to his, and I have to admit, I was a little jealous! The friendly atmosphere and welcoming people made it even better. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Butte!
