Pop's Tattoo falls under the category of epic in my eyes. I have been to a lot of tattoo shops. Always dreamed of getting one, and always left feeling uncomfortable, weird, and out off place. I guess thats why I remain without one. But, I think...Hell I know I have found my place. It started with my cousin wanting his cross fixed. He told me about Pop's. I was pretty much like cool. I never heard of the place but, go for it. So one night he decide lets go out. So we head up to Wheaton Mall and... A Double Rainbow Later... I'm in love with the place. Everyone is "real". For those that don't understand me. It means no Bullshit, straight-forward, honest dudes. Yeah, like most Tattoo shops you can feel weird but, they fix that. Its a small place. In Wheaton mall, Upper level. Of course there is plenty of parking. It is darkly painted BUT, someone either majored in lighting or is damn good with placement because you don't feel closed in. Everyone is great. Their work is great as well. If you know you want a Tattoo, then go somewhere else but, if you know you want some body art then Pop's is the place for sure. I got a tattoo by Seven at Pop's Tattoo, and it was horrible. The lines were all crooked, and he didn't follow the stencil outline on my skin for the tattoo. After about a week, I noticed that my tattoo wasn't healing correctly.. it was scabbing up A LOT more than a tattoo should, (i have 3 other large tattoos) and it was taking a lot longer to heal than it should. I was taking perfect care of it. I went to the shop to ask about it, and the owner said, "Oh, that's normal, it's because the tattoo is on your wrist, all wrist tattoos heal like that." That's not true, I have a few friends who have tattoos on their wrists and they said that their tattoos healed just like their other tattoos. And even if that was true, Seven didn't tell me that during our consultation. After it finally did heal, a lot of the lines had disappeared, and the tattoo was already extremely faded. Maybe the other artists there are great, but I would never go back to Seven. Seven, you need to work on your communication and consultation skills. Thank goodness I've gotten the tattoo fixed by Nikki at Tattoo Paradise and I LOVE IT. read more

I went in with my parents and best friend to get tattoos together (firsts for all of us). My best friend and I both had ours done by Joey "Darko." What a joke of a tattoo artist. Mine turned out just okay, not horrible, not great. My friend's looks like it was drawn by a 2 year old. It was supposed to look like a door opening with light shining through. Had a picture, the draw-up looked good, but it looked horrible when complete Worst part- parts of the color fell out less than a week after completion. Joey was rude, unfriendly and unprofessional. Never introduced himself or asked my name, didn't chat at all while I sat there for an hour. He was sick and kept having to stop to cough, and cursed constantly. Acted like every question I had was just wasting his time and he couldn't be bothered to give a detailed answer. If it weren't for Mookie, I would give this place 1 star. He saved the day. Helped me out with the after-care of my tattoo, is fixing my friend's tattoo for free, and was overall just awesome throughout this whole "experience." If you go there, ask for Mookie or Se7en. Whatever you do, avoid "Darko" like the plague. read more

*Update* Now I'm taking back the whole, "he did a good job" statement. Now that the ink has settled, I've noticed that the guy missed tattooing ink in one of the lines on my cross, and by now, it looks bad. The lines are blurred, not defined as I previously thought. I've been taking good care of it, so I know I'm not at fault for how it turned out. It's still in the healing process, but I'll have to get it retouched for sure. I may not even bother coming here to ask them to retouch it for me, so I'm hoping another place will do it for cheap (or preferably free). read more

They didn't try to sell me useless stuff unlike some places I have visited in the past. The place was clean. Pop's Tattoo was my first experience of getting a tattoo. I was very nervous for weeks leading up to choosing a place and I'm so glad I chose Pop's! ATMOSPHERE: Calm, professional, clean, open, welcoming. There wasn't any creepy decor, the music was nice and not overbearing, and the place was very well lit (even had natural lighting). There was even a collection of art and tattoo books you can peruse while sitting on the comfy couch in the lobby area. I wasn't intimidated at all. The place seemed very safe and I knew the moment I walked in that I would be taken good care of. TIMING: I did a walk-in and asked for 2 small/medium-sized tattoos. The whole experience lasted from 5:30-6:30 PM. This includes discussing and creating a design, the tattooing itself, and paying. PROFESSIONAL: Chuck answered all of my questions about the tattooing process before, during, and after the event. He frequently asked how I was doing during the process. He also gave a paper copy of the aftercare instructions on the tattoo. He even gave me a sample of the A&D ointment that would last me for the recommended 2 days of aftercare treatment. COST: The tattoos were very well priced and of high quality. Chuck even mentioned that if I needed any follow up (ie: the ink is bleeding or fading), he would touch it up for free. -- One thing to mention is that you pay upfront. They accept cash as well as credit/debit. MISC.: Chuck also mentioned that he would sometimes scan drawings/pictures that clients would bring in and make it a stencil so that it could become a tattoo. NOTE: Parking is a bit challenging, I recommend parking across the street at the metered lot (About $0.25 for 30 minutes). The metered lot is FREE after 6 PM on weekdays and FREE on weekends. PROCESS: Chuck and I talked a bit about what kind of tattoo I was interested in. He was very excited to hear that it was my first time and I could tell he really wanted to make sure my experience nothing but positive. We looked on the internet for some ideas and I came in with some of my ideas as well. When we settled on an idea, I paid upfront. Then while he was creating the stencil, I sat and read an art book from their library. Another staff member even gave me a cold bottle of water from the fridge. After about 5-10 minutes, he was ready. We then went to one of the separate small rooms (similar to one of the private rooms at a doctors office). The room was well lit with natural lighting coming from the window on the second floor. The door was open and the room was very clean and organized. It felt professional and safe. Chuck then explained in detail (and answered my many questions) about what to expect before, during, and after the tattooing experience. This put me at a lot of ease because I was so nervous since this was my first time. Overall, I had a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend it to anyone--especially first-timers! BEWARE!!!!!!!!!! This place has really fallen off the map. None of the actual ARTISTS they had in the past are there anymore. Matt, Seven, Danny and Joe. Its is all new people with a$$hole attitudes. Check the portfolios of the current people to see for yourself. Their tattoos suck and so do the lines in them. I'm sorry but I don't want my tattoo to look like a 3 year old did it. You may have tattooed for 10 years, but how many of those 10 years were you actually good? This place is a JOKE. Please do some research on your artist before saying yes to them. I went for eyebrow piercings. One was a redo from last year I got at Great Southern on US 1 in College Park (left my with a black eye, was poorly position and the staff was unfriendly) and one was a new one. It was a great experience. Chuck did a great job. Talked throughout the process. Made sure I knew exactly what I was getting, and liked the positioning. He tried to make it as painless as possible for getting a needle stuck in your face, and covered after care with me even though it wasn't my first time. It's hard to compare the differences between how I treated here and at other shops. It was just that good. Great shop, very clean and bright. Friendly guys. Better pricing. Will never go anywhere else as long as I am in the area. One Caveat: The parking lot is teensy, so it may be hard to find a space if you go around lunch time. read more

This shop sucks!!!!!!! I went in to ask for an idea of how much it would be to touch up a tatoo I have and that alone was enough to not come back. I approached the desk to ask about my tatoo and the frront desk lady and two tatoo atists just looked at me like i was from another planet. Unbelievably bad tattoo!! There are ink bleeds EVERYWHERE. The tattoo doesn't just have a mistake here and there, the whole thing is terrible. I really don't know how i can express to you how bad this thing is and now it's stuck on my arm for the rest of my life. It wasn't even a hard tattoo. I wanted a simple shield with some shading to go around a tattoo i already have. I went somewhere else to get it fixed and they told me that there isn't much they can do, but they will clean up what they can. It's going to cost more to clean it up then for the original tattoo. It has been over two months and i was told that when they did the tattoo they pushed way too hard on the shading and that I would have to wait for all of the scaring to heal. read more

I was very disappointed with my service. I found them to be rude, unfriendly, unprofessional and actually not very talented at piercing. I went in to replace a cartilage earring and after 25 minutes of my ear being unskillfully prodded at to the point that it was bleeding quite a lot, I was given a piercing that was smaller than the size I had requested. As I was leaving the woman said to me "It only looks smaller because of the swelling but it's actually the right size". Needless to say it was not. I went back to complain a few days later and they said that I would have to pay for a replacement because I had supposedly walked out happy with my purchase (unaware of the fact that I had been lied to). I went to Pops tattoo to have a tattoo on my foot touched up because It was very faded and completely colored in correctly, however the tattoo was about 15 years old I got it done when I was very young. The tattoo artist name was sunny and he looked at it and said this tattoo needs alot of work. and I said ok and then he said it would cost $ 140 dollars mind you just for a touch up which only took him no less than 30 minutes to complete. I went home and after more than 2 weeks the tattoo was not healed at all and all the color was gone and it just looked like a big sore on my foot. so I went back and a girl that worked their advised me to get some emu oil too make it heal. after putting this emu oil on it religiously for another 2 weeks it still looks horrible so I called again and told her that I wanted my $140 dollars back so I am waiting for the owner to get back with me. and like so of the others said here they were not that nice too me at all and I dont think that he has placed a tattoo on someone who has dark skin and that is why he did not now how much pressure to put in order for it to come out right. I am still waiting for the owner to get back with me I just want my money back for a permanent scar that I have to walk around with for the rest of my life. All together it has been two months since I got this tattoo done and it is just completely horrible I would not recommend anyone to go to pops tattoo especially if you have dark skin because I dont think they have much experience with tattooing on dark skin at least that guy sunny does not. I would say good luck to any one who goes there because you will need it read more

From the initial consultation all the way through it was top notch customer service. Very relaxed employees, friendly. Office was very clean. I have gotten a few tattoos and piercings in my life, and went here because I had heard good things, wanted my nose pierced, and it was close to my house. While I have friends who had great experiences at Pop's I will never go back, and will not encourage any of my friends to. I sat there and waited for a half hour while they tried to set up their printer to the computer. I asked the guy who was doing my peircing if it would be a problem that I had this done before and there may be some scar tissue. He actually made the 'pft' sound and shook his head like he was ashamed I would even ask the question. Meanwhile, tall, skinny, guy from Oklahoma (yes, that's right - he never even told me his name, even when I asked) seemed to only care about eating his mcdonalds and it was clearly a bother to him to have to wait a few minutes to put the hole in my face. We went to the back (being slightly turned off by his persona, but figuring he was just a weird guy) and he just came at me with the needle. I said, "whoa... can we talk about where it's going in first?" his response was "it's going in where I put it in, and if you move your head again, I'm not gonna be able to do it right." I flatly told him that if he was going to put a hole in my face he should at least tell me what he's doing and he replied that he was "piercing my nose." And once it was done he handed me a piece of paper and said to call if I had any questions about aftercare. This was HANDS-DOWN the WORST experience with tatttoos or piericings that I have EVER had (overall I have had 6 peircings and 4 tattoos), and I have never been compelled to write a bad review. I will not recommend anyone to Pop's, you would be better off going to Bethesda Tattoo where the employees are competent and talk to their customers about what they are doing and how. Bottom line: if you are putting a hole in my body or a permanent tattoo, there is not room for crappy (or non-existent) customer service. read more

i took my boyfriend to pop's tattoos in wheaton mall for fathers day to get a new tat...when we walked in it was super hoooootttttt!!!!! that's the only reason why they get a 4 out of 5 i wish they had a 4.7 b/c that's what i would give them. the place was very clean they had lots of work for u to browse through. they are very talented! the price for what he got was ok it wasn't to expensive. everyone was super friendly and helpful!!! but the actual art work he got was stupid wild!!!(good for those who are over 35) it was exactly what he wanted and more. the detail and the shading was extremely good seven is the bomb(good). he has that young swag to him so he knows what us 20 somethings are into n what we expect! if i were to get any other body art i would let seven take a stab at it..lol you guys have to check them out! read more
