I left both a voice mail and an email on Sunday (as it was now 6pm and I was increasingly worried they weren't going to arrive). The flowers did eventually arrive sometime after 5:30pm Sunday and before 8am on Monday). I received a follow up email simply stating "We have a confirmation from our delivery driver that it was delivered on Sunday at 9:21am, and left at the front door. Address..." Was very disappointed they were a day late and there was no ownership. The flowers were beautiful but I won't be ordering again - especially for an additional $25.00 for a day late.... read more

I wish this place was great, because it's so close to my house the bar is low for it to become my go-to spot. But, I'm consistently disappointed with their service. Every time I ask for assistance, the response is as though I'm interrupting them and I'm rushed through every interaction. Questions are responded to as though I'm ignorant for asking. Poppy: A popular baby name, a respectful red flower on lapels in November and the singular of my favourite flower shop in Toronto. Just beyond my laptop is a cute glass cylinder terrarium, the only plant that has survived my any-colour-but-green thumbs. Further to this little display of greenery, I've also bought many gifts here, usually cacti and soaps. Their pink grapefruit hand and bar soap by Michel is one of my favourite scents of all time. Went in here the other day while on my day off. The place looks really cute from the outside and they have really nice arrangements on display. I wish their customer service was just as nice, or even existed. I wasn't greeted when I walked in and I'm not sure if I was disturbing the girl in the store when I started to ask her a question. Every flower tells a story but needs an outlet. This flower shop not only houses a wide variety of flowers but gives them outlet to tell their story. So many colours, aromas and varieties fill the walls of this store. The displays are remarkable. If Flowers arent you're thing, not bother. Beautiful flowers, gorgeous flower options, love the owner!! She's amazing and very friendly! One of the employees there...not so much...? I thought I was the only one who felt that she was unpleasant, stoic and cold. I tried to make small talk to lighten up the mood because I was seriously feeling uncomfortable. She just continued to be stoic as if I interrupted something or crash her party. My mother received the same terrible customer service from that same employee too! I see from some of the other reviews here that I'm not the only one with a poor customer service issue. I came in here last week, the girl (assuming she's the owner) didn't even say Hi when I walked in. She looked occupied with everything else but me, even though I was the only one in the store. I've come into Poppies several times, purchasing a few stems and arrangements for friends and bought from you this past Mother's Day. I live in the area, so I get to walk past your shop daily and it always brightens my day. But actually coming into the shop? It's consistently a different story because every, single time I leave with beautiful flowers and always feel like horrible. I come in looking for a gift to cheer someone up and leave feeling like I've been a pain, that I've been an inconvenience. Today, I thought I'd give it one last shot. I'm not sure if the shop often handles customers that get on staff's nerves or people change their minds a lot or if they can't afford as many flowers as they'd like to, but it's as though i'm being treated that way. I am not greeted warmly. The staff stands right next to me as I look over the different flowers. I ask for prices, they are short answers. I pick out something and the stems are yanked right out. It was going to be $15+ tax and that was over what I could afford. I apologize for changing my mind. No answer. I ask for a couple peonies. In a bucket of completely closed blooms, she wraps up the 2 that are over their shelf life, blooms completely out and at the end of the line. I'm disappointed enough with her cold customer service, that I point it out, saying the blooms are out and I'm not paying $5/stem for them. I get 2 closed blooms. She abruptly wraps them, rams the 2 bloomed flowers back in the pot and rings me up. I thank her and wish her a nice day, which is not returned. Good grief, you work in a beautiful, uplifting industry. Or it's supposed to be. Your product is meant to be encouraging and warm and loving, so what does it say when you rudely hand people their flowers after tacking your business card on your product and look relieved to have the store back to yourself. I'm more than willing to pay your prices, but to put up with your customer service? No way. You seem to be proud of serving Elton John and Sophia Loren, but would you serve them the way you do regular Toronto customers? Not a chance. Completely disappointed. read more

Poppies just gets me. Well, my BF gets me and Poppies gets him. Without fail, he can walk in or pick up the phone, tell them what I don't like and they create something so beautiful and different that I get giddy when I see it. They take the time to put the little water things on the bigger, water guzzling stems, and the bouquets are always so perfectly arranged I can just unwrap them and plunk them in a vase. I've actually never dealt with them myself, but my BF is a stickler for service and always goes back to them, so they must be doing something right! read more

I ordered flowers and within about a 15 minute time span I needed to make major changes because God has been throwing me some curveballs lately and I love the Lord and baseball but also give me a break. Anyway I called to make changes to the order only to find that it was already being delivered, which obviously wasn't ideal but damn gotta give props to how quick they got that done. Something ended up happening with the delivery location so they called back to see if I still needed to make changes! Every time I talked to someone on the phone they were extremely sincere which I appreciated since I was having a rough day. Great customer service! read more

Poppies does beautiful flowers however the customer service sucks! I ordered some potted arrangements for my wedding reception and the next day the plants began to wilt and die. Terribly embarrassing because we had given them to guests to take home. When I spoke to Poppies about this they blamed us (how could 5 different people have the same result!) and refused to remediate the situation saying the best they could do was re-pot them at a cost of 5$ each! What a waste of money! Unfortunately I will never use them again and do not recommend them for special events. read more

I went to poppies on a Saturday afternoon to buy some houseplants and flower arrangements . I found the staff very cool and unhelpful. I bought three large house plants totalling $500. The sale girl made no effort to take them to the car even though we were clearly struggling. I had a similar incident with the cut flower arrangements were I was not told the price until too late and the sales girl refused to sell me the white daisies in a bucket that I wanted and insisted I take from the older bucket. I have called now twice in the past week to inform the owner of my discontent with the service and she has not returned my call. There are so many wonderful flower shops in this city and I will certainly not return to this one . read more

I was part of a wedding party where the maid of honour wasn't supposed to attend the wedding but circumstances changed and luckily she was there for the big day. Unfortunately no one realized we were short a bouquet as the bride ordered enough for herself and the remaining bridesmaids. So an hour before the ceremony I was tasked to find a flower shop to get a bouquet. I walked into poppies, told the florist I needed a pink bouquet and she managed to pull out pretty pink flowers out of the fridge and started to wrap it in tissue paper. I got nervous and explained that this was going to be a bouquet for a bridesmaid and that's when the magic happened. Before my eyes the florist arranged the flowers into a beautiful, toss-able,satin wrapped bouquet. I bought a plant at Poppies about 3 weeks ago. When I was at the cash, I noticed that the leaves were browning and looking like maybe something was wrong with the plant. I said, "hmm, that worries me a little." The plant was almost $100.00. She totally dimissed me by saying it was nothing at all. She barely looked at it at all. The plant was indeed infested with worms of some kind, but I could not find the receipt and was not in the mood to deal with what their service might be like if I tried to bring it back -- so I just took the loss. But I will never buy from there again. The whole point - at least for me - of buying from expensive places like this is to avoid buying infested plants, or at least avoid shop keepers who make you feel like they might potentially give you a hard time about it. read more

I have ordered flowers from Poppies twice. I've paid premium prices and received subPar flowers both times that have died within three or four days of delivery. The last time I asked for roses, I got a bouquet with a azaleas, some other flowers and a few roses on the bottom. There are better places with more reasonable prices. Horribly rude! I want to love this place because it is so close to where I live and it is a lovely store but they are so rude I just cant handle it anymore. I have tried several times to give this store a second chance and each time I leave feeling awful. They never greet you, offer assistance or are remotely pleasant in any way. When you do ask for help you feel like you are being a complete bother. Never again. Luckily, Dynasty is just a couple doors down and they are AMAZING. Super friendly and helpful. I live in Western Canada and called Poppies to send flowers to a relative that lived in Toronto. I was specific about my request, and sent pictures, but the flowers that arrived looked nothing like what I had asked for. They were very pretty, but pink instead of orange, and I specifically asked to have the vase wrapped in a leaf, and it was not. I paid a decent amount and would have appreciated if the arrangement was similar to the bunch I had discussed with the florist over telephone and e-mail. read more

I went into Poppies today and had a great experience. The service was lovely. I purchased some flowers and also inquired about some other plants for my home. The lady who helped me was really sweet and gave me some great advice. I've never had an unpleasant experience but I do understand how the staff can be misinterpreted. To be honest I think it's less of a rude or bad service thing and more of a shyness. Things aren't always what they seem, we're too quick to judge. Why should we rely on other people to make us happy? Happiness is internal and a choice. External circumstances have little to do with our own happiness. This is a small businesses not home Depot the more we drag small businesses through the mud for one bad experience, the less small, unique businesses we will see in Toronto.
