If you've been to London or have read anything about foods popular with the locals, you know that fish & chips is a big staple. During our visit we enjoyed some delicious fish & chips from various restaurants; however we decided that we should try a dedicated fish & chips restaurant. While walking to our apartment, we discovered Poppies, which was fairly busy (so we figured that the food must be good).
When we entered, an employee unenthusiastically greeted us. My wife proceeded to place an order for two large Cod fish & chips, along with a side of Calamari. The employee rudely interrupted her and said "we do not have a large cod fish & chips (the menu captured in my photo indicates otherwise)." A little over 10 minutes later another employee handed us our orders.
Upon taking initial bites of the fish, we knew that we had made the wrong decision. The fish appeared not to be fried completely and lacked flavor (I've had better fish at chains like Long John Silvers), and the French fries were un memorable.
