Always pass by this restaurant on the corner of 1st and Rupert and finally tried it. Seems like an authentic Italian spot. We got a seat right away and served water and bread. We tried the mushroom ravioli and lamb parpadelle. I loved the flavors of the ravioli... Definitely on the pricier side since I expected bigger portions for the price point.

After years of driving by this place decided to check it out and it did not disappoint! Been back several times but you can't really order anything that won't be fantastic. Highly recommend their lasagna :)

I did not expect this place to be as good as it was. Prices are reasonable. We ordered off the seasonal menu, which was a mushroom ravioli. I really enjoyed it, and hope it makes it back to the regular menu soon. Our waiter was attentive, and provided good recommendations for first timers at the restaurant.

My very first time in here,Classic place typical Italian restaurant, dim light with antique cabinets, wine, and displays arrays of Italian inspired decors. Good service, free parking but i gez not enough for big gatherings. Huge place it looks like it can house more than 40 guests. Clear list of dishes from the menu.I havent read all of them because my cravings for dinner is steak so i know right away what i am gonna tell the server. French bread and butter to start, then may main entree, i got the New York Steak it was a prime Certified Alberta Black Angus Beef, 10 Oz cut, grilled to guests preference, they serve it with baby green salad and potatoes.Normal wait time for steak so everything is just so perfect for my dinner. The meat was so good i asked for medium well done, I cannot eat rare steak, in my mind they are still raw and pink...i know thats how majority like it but not me....unremarkable dish, i love it. There's tons of wine selection but i came alone and i drove so too bad no alcohol for my gut tonight. Noise level is average, music playing i believed this song is already classic, i didnt recognized it but its so nice to listen, relaxing and romantic. I dont see any TV monitor I came almost 7 pm and the place is more than half full, they closes at 9 pm on sunday. Wifi is powered by shaw cable and too bad i am with the other company so it will not work with me...haizzz, anyways i dont really need wifi because i would like to enjoy my food and not my phone. Wash room is immaculately clean, even the dining area is so clean. Excellent ambiance so be prepared you pay for good places as well. Including a 15% gratuity i paid $45 for my dinner. Gezz it just okay for a great and amazing steak dinner. I would like to return with friends so we can try some Italian dishes. Had fun and wonderful experience in here.

We came here for a family birthday celebration. A few family members have dined here before & recommended the place. We all enjoyed the food. They still have good food. Unfortunately they have limited dining hours - Thursdays to Sundays and only on Fridays are lunch. The place has a nice ambience, great for special occasions that can accommodate a large group. Here are the ratings for the food (5 as the best): Caesar salad starter - 5 - great flavour with the anchovies Beef Carpaccio - 5 - delish & fresh with a decent portion Crisp Cheese Toast - 3 Tagliatelle with Wild Mushrooms - 5 - delish Mixed seafood linguine - 4 fresh seafood Wild mushroom risotto - 5 - flavourful Veal Osso Buco - 4 - slightly on the dry side. Needed more sauce New York Steak Tagliata - 4 - tasty Tiramisu - 4 - tasty Pecan tart - 4 All entrees could serve a few more veggies. Overall a great experience for both vegetarians & meat lovers. Service was attentive & friendly. There's ample parking out front.

A pretty hidden gem restaurant that it out of nowhere. I know that it has been so long in vancouver but i feel the location is pretty remote and hard to get without a car so i guess it would be a quite hidden gem to try. Its not too poor italian but its okay the price. The portion is just a little bit small for the price in my opinion. And another downside is just the bread is so cold and quite old. Other than those it has pretty good tiramisu not the best but pretty good. Enjoy the different flavours of pasta to choose from and real carbonara to choose from well not quite the most authentic with pecorino and guanciale but with Parmigiano and pancetta and egg yolk which pretty much did the job. And all the pasta tasted great. It sure it is recommended for the taste but not the value. Cheers!

Fresh salad with cod &buffalo mozzarella on in house focaccia bread. Lovely villa vibe, quality Italian food, nice alcohol collection of wine and harder stuff. Sister had her wedding dinner here. PS: That coffee machine though.

This hidden gem is finally back opened for dinner with limited days opened. However lets just say if you ask me where id go for Italian this is the place id recommend! The food is authentic and never once has it been a miss with us. * 2x peach Bellini ($13/each) ~ this is the best Bellini I've ever had in my entire life. None of that slushy stuff. This is legit the most authentic Bellini I've encountered. Its sweet and strong. Super flavourful that this could be so dangerous. * Pappardelle Lamb ($24) ~ this was delicious the lamb was soft and tender and perfectly cooked and mixed into the pasta. That pasta was perfect al dente, and not to mention the flavours were spot on. I recommend this dish if you like a rich lamb pasta that could pair perfectly with wine. * Lasagna ($24) ~ super rich in flavour and very classic flavours. Super cheesy and good balance of meat and sauce. The cheese they used were rich and premium super delicious and perfectly cooked. * Wild mushroom risotto ($23) ~ this was outstanding. Super rich and creamy the truffle was just the right amount, The mushrooms were nice and added an amazing texture to the dish. The cheese they used was rich and complimented the dish perfectly. * 10/10 ~ this place is one I highly recommend. Second time back here and there's for sure more times to come! * 7/10 ~ it ain't cheap. But the portion despite the appearance is huge. The dishes are deeper than they seem so its super filling. Total bill before tip: $104.45

To be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect at this restaurant. I'd seen several restaurants try and fail miserably (thanks to the crappy location) - so I thought PI would be no different. Boy, was I wrong. It is an upscale and somewhat trendy restaurant. You know there's class when the restaurant offers valet parking, and a friendly doorman greets you on the way in and out. Staff were well dressed, and the interior was decked out. To be honest, I felt a bit underdressed. The bread basket was plentiful and there were these neat little bread sticks (looked like yellow plant stems), but I'm not sure about the freshness as it was cold. It came with a cup of butter, and a cup of olives, which was nice. Ravioli - lumps of (ricotta?) cheese; spinach and some other stuff inside. Really really tasty Black risotto - looked like blood pudding due to dark colour (natural colour of wild rice). Excellent flavour. Best I've had in town. Crab linguine - served al dente. Good flavour, but way too much butter (pooled at the bottom). Service was excellent. The staff were prompt and professional. The food is definitely great and it'd be a great place for a date because of the ambience, but the flaws mentioned above mean there are also alternatives in town.

We decided to give Poor Italian a try after being unable to secure a reservation at our first choice. We were sure glad that place was fully booked as we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening at PI. I'm not sure where all the negativity is coming from with some of the previous reviews, but we didn't encounter any; save for whom I assume was the owner talking in demonstrative Italian on his phone at the bar all evening. Hence, I digress. The staff were so nice, accomodating and humorous. The food was not spectacular, but it was very tasty and fresh.. no nonsense good eating. We chose the Antipasto and Calamari Fritti for apps. The mains were Linguine Puttanesca, Vitello Parmigiano and New York Steak. For dessert, we opted for the Canoli Crisps with Marscapone and the made to order Zabaglione. The highlights were definitely the ever so light and tender calamari, the perfectly sauced and al dente pasta and the delectably smooth zabaglione. The meats were nicely prepared as well, therefore we really had no complaints about the food.. delicious all around. If the owner would've stopped the chattering, the ambience would be perfect for a quiet night out. Give PI a consideration the next time you have to quell some authentic Italian fare craving

It was full of flavor and wagyu was tender. Great item. Tonnato was also good. Very solid item. I did not have stacciatella. Tapenade was sour side, with strong olive and roasted pepper flavors stand out. Vongole(savory clams, fermented Taragu mares chilli white wine and parsley, squid ink linguine) Highlight! Clam and Vongole sauce were very delicious! Squid ink linguine was also good. It was good to have sauce with bread. Bistecca(Babette steak, Amaro jus, garlic scapes, frisee and hazelnuts) This item was also very delicious. Medium rare steak was tender(a bit chewy) the garlic scapes, hazelnut and frisée combination was excellent. i really enjoyed having together with meat. Overall, I really liked this restaurant. I would like to visit late night next time.

What made this place stand out to me the most was the bartender whipped up the most absolute AMAZING espresso martini I've ever had. Just happened to have a conversation about how much I love a good espresso martini. I've had many but this place wins 1st place! There was also live music later in the evening and the environment was very casual and up beat. I will definitely be returning for another espresso martini in the near future! Tons of wine options to choose from.

There is definitely at least one back room, but the main dining room is a bright, airy space that has access to a patio where may even be some live music playing. The tables are gorgeous - all live edge, which might create a bit of an issue if you have short arms and are used to stealing bites across the table, but they are absolutely beautiful and a nice nod to the area. The wine list is extensive and a bit overwhelming, but the service is happy, friendly, and very knowledgeable. In fact, I love when servers don't know, admit it, and find the answer for you - it's humble and shows they really care at getting you what you want. We got the orange wine, which is a new favorite of mine. It's like a rose for reds. Rose:White::Orange:Red. More savory, still light, and best chilled. We had the beet hummus app, which is definitely best eaten with your hands. It's light and delicious. We had the miso black cod, a personal favorite, and the lasagna for dinner and while both were good, the accoutrements with the cod were the true standout. Amazing and I could probably eat two of them. As the restaurant operates on a seasonal menu, we had a strawberry rhubarb cobbler for dessert. I know there is Sunday Brunch, and I can't wait to try it. It's not the cheapest, but it's one of the nicer restaurants in Whatcom, and is definitely worth your pennies. Everything about it makes for a truly nice experience, and we'll definitely be back.

Good wine list! Hubby switched to a negroni that he liked and I had more wine but this time late night happy hour had started which was a nice treat! We ordered the Dolce de leche dessert and the kitchen was lovely and gave us both desserts on the menu as a bday treat. The rice dessert was incredible - it was like sticky toffee pudding but with a rice base. The caramel sauce was killer! It blew the dolce dessert outta the water. The service was also kind and attentive! The music choices were odd for our night, I love vinyl and collect it myself but just wasn't feeling the vibes that evening, it was a lot of house style music and the same beat over and over with no lyrics. Some folks loved it tho and had asked to move closer to the speaker so to each is own. The tables are also really close to your neighbor so you catch quite abit of convo around you and it's a touch distracting especially when it starts to get little loud as the room is small. It was fun to people watch though.

Ordering style was interesting, after we ordered our small plates we were ready to select our main courses but the staff just took our menu away and we had to ask another server to put in our main entrees. I understand they were busy so they may have assumed we were done ordering but it was a bit of an off putting experience. Overall food was good, the bread was divine. The highlight item for us was the tuna tar tar with chinese donuts, the chili crips totally brought the dish together. Everything else was pretty good, but wasn't amazing as I hoped. The citrus notes in the canton noodles threw me off and the chicken liver mochi balls felt more like a dessert dish than an appetizer for some reason.
