Went with a group for a concert and there's not a bad seat in the house, I picked barstools which worked great. Seating in your area is FCFS. Patrice Pike was performing and she is so good. There was only one bar and the bartender kept up with the demand and got to me quickly every time. I have attended many events at Poor David's, but may have attended our last show. We paid $139.98 to see Rodney Crowell and Sam Baker ($60 per ticket, and $19.98 in fees) on 24Apr2024. David and the bartender talked loudly throughout the show. The disrespect shown to the performers and attendees was amazing, and a fabulous show was ruined for anyone who sat within reach of their voices. read more

I'm giving PDP a 5 star for the music venue. It's a great place to listen to some great sound for a nominal price. It doesn't serve food but has a fully stocked bar. Their drinks are NOT very strong on the alcohol side but I don't go there for the booze, I go for the sound. read more

There is definitely no glitz or glamour about this place. I'm giving it 4 stars based on the show we went to see. The ambiance is just a bar. Seats are uncomfortable and actual tables are limited. Eat before you come although I did see several people bring food from outside in. The sound system wasn't the best but that didn't stop the show. The drinks.. hit or miss. Smoothest vodka and cranberry I ever had but the lemon drop martini was so strong I couldn't finish it. Again, the stars was based on the performance and the venue. Make no mistake: This really is a "music venue" (as Yelp properly classifies it). They happen to have bar service, at perhaps an "intermediate" level, but the only food here is popcorn. So, really, you come here for the show, which makes it harder to write a review for, but I'm going to try anyway. Most shows (if not all) are going to have a cover charge; the band I saw had a deal where they "paid to play", then got a portion of the gate. The place holds maybe 300 patrons, and seating is mostly sturdy plastic seats that you might see in a middle school. There are a fair number of movable round tables to hold drinks, and the stage is very well situated and has room for plenty of performers and their gear. Lighting is more than adequate, and I'm sure, varies from act to act. We only had water and soft drinks, but the prices were very reasonable for these (unlike many bars). Restrooms were clean and easily accessible. Parking is available in several lots around the venue, and it's easily reachable from DART light rail if you want to come that way. It's definitely a decent place to catch a band, just make sure you eat beforehand. read more

It is named a "pub" so I walked in on a Friday night thinking it would be a pub. The older gentleman at the door informed me it was not a pub by rudely asking "do you have tickets?" I said no, and was met with "well we're a concert venue." K, then. I love live music of any kind and may have purchased tickets to stay, but I was met with silence so we left and went next door. Thank goodness Full Circle Tavern was available to serve me alcohol without an attitude. I never leave reviews for a place I didn't actually get to experience, but I genuinely felt like I did experience this place. Sorry to whomever has to play a concert here. read more

I waited in line 6 hours to be in the front row so I got a great view! lol We came from Houston to see Tin Tin Can, The Kissing Club, Drew and the Medicinal Pen and 100 Monkeys. I liked that the water was free, and I didn't order any drinks so I can't comment on the cost. I'm sure they're not cheap as it is a bar setting. We have lived in downtown over 2 years and go next door to Full Circle Tavern several times for lunch and dinner and finally tried Poor David's Pub. The record store beside it is amazing. Our experience was less than sub par mainly due to the fact that another patron across the way from us came over to us with a very snide remark insisting that we were talking to loudly and he was here to listen to the musician and not my boyfriend and I. I believe we said maybe 10 words to each other the whole time this musician was playing and I have a very quiet voice in general so I know it wasn't loudly. This man definitely felt as if his opinion counted, well I hope he is that important because we will never be back and tell everyone not to go here. Want to see a musician? Wait til he plays elsewhere. Fulbright was playing this night and it was great along with the bartenders. Our only complaint is from doors open to when the show started was 1.5 hours which was a little boring considering it is a true music venue. Either way we will not be back and this man was very lucky this night as rude as he is. Thank my boyfriend for the meme lol. read more

I went to Poor David's with a bunch of ministers. (no joke). We closed the place down (no joke). It moved to Lamar street after we finished with the old building on Greenville located in the Lower Greenville area of Dallas. This is a true story. The cool thing about Poor David's is they cater to private parties. A bunch of crazy ministers were getting together and wanted to write and sing our own music, so we called Poor David's and they graciously, but in a perplexing way, let us be there one night. I think the staff were trilled that we were NOT singing hymns and stuff....please DON'T ask....we can't tell you what happened.... Anyway, the owner of Poor David's was in the process of moving his Pub to a different location and since there were ministers he asked us to bless the establishment. So a priest, a rabbi, and a minister walked into a bar.... the bartender asked "Is this a joke?" Apparently not....we blessed the place. Great music...great staff (and even greater owners). I would definitely say this a place if you have a big group that want to unwind and hear good music. Even go on a night with there are not a bunch of crazy ministers getting together, the music is even better!!!!!!!! They can hold about 300 people in their new place and have live bands all the time. I went here with a few friends over the weekend to watch our friend's band - the Haz Benz - put on a show. It is a super laid-back place that is really set up for live music - I would imagine they have some kind of show here every night with the layout they have. The bar is elevated in the back with plenty of seating at the actual bar or at tables nearby. Below you'll find lots more tables with plastic chairs that look like they belong in a 4th grade classroom! Very lightweight and easy to move around for groups. This bar does not serve food, but no worries, you won't go hungry. They keep a stack of delivery menus in the back near the bar - they have chosen places that will deliver to the pub. The delivery guy just calls your cell and you go out, pay, and bring the food right back to your table. We ordered a pizza during the show and got it about half an hour later - just like a typical delivery to your home. Nice touch! read more

Another stop in the line of events following the no-pants dart ride. When we arrived I was a little bummed to see that there was a $10 cover; however, when I found out it was for a good cause I was totally in. This place is actually pretty huge and could accommodate a large crowd of crazies. From what I remember (which is very little) the crowd was pretty varied in age, style, ethnicity, etc....total melting pot. The staff was super cute and friendly and intrigued by our shenanigans. A few bands played...the only one I remember is the Loosies. Great name for an all girl punk rock band. And who could resist a band who lets you jam out on stage in your undies AND gives you free band swag! Awesome. Ended the night with a titillating burlesque show which had my eyes glued to the stage. Someone could have thrown a rock at me and I probably would not have flinched!!! Next time I come I will attempt to be more sober so I can enjoy the experience on a completely different level :) read more

Domestic beer is 6 dollars a bottle here. 5 dollars a can... I feel like they do this on purpose to scare off young people. The crowd last night (aside from one of the performers, a seventeen-year-old) was very, very old. About half an hour into the night some guy even came over to our table and asked us to "please be quiet." I went last night to witness the thrilling conclusion of the "21st annual BW Stevenson singer-songwriter competition FINALS", and I felt like I was in a library the whole time. We've been here now twice for concerts. I like the venue fine, though it doesn't have any features that particularly make it stand out for me. The odd thing is that both shows have been very sparsely attended. The first I figured was just because it was a relatively unknown group. But the 2nd was Brave Combo and pretty popular. The positive side is that it wasn't too crowded and everyone could have a seat. (I know I've hit my 30s when I list that on the positive side.) But it also means not much of a "party" atmosphere for concerts. The first time I went we ordered pizza delivered, which was good since no food is served and we didn't have the forethought to eat before we came. There's plenty of parking in the area, though you may need to pay for it. Nearby lots vary in price depending on what other events are going on in the area. read more

This is not a place to go if you're poor. Straight whiskey is $7.50 in a plastic cup. $15 entry each night I came here, both Friday and Saturday night consecutively. I like the feel of the place, they kind of have the look of a dive bar, but they have the cost of uptown. I'm down almost $80 this weekend without getting drunk. I'm not here to stay sober. We saw Slaid Cleaves here, who is an awesome singer song writer. Tickets are purchased to get in then seating was first come, first serve, but that wasn't an issue. A bucket of beer is $30, so be forewarned. There's nothing special about the building or interior but a cool venue for music. Inside kind of gives off a dark, diveish type of feeling. Stopped in Friday night for a concert that I had really been looking forward to (Lauren Pritchard...just in case you're interested). Two huge pillars block the stage from a good portion of the room. The drinks were insanely expensive and the staff was completely rude. They left WAY too many tables and chairs out considering the number of people they admitted. They didn't cut any one off at the bar so about a quarter of the patrons were falling down drunk. If I had any other choice, I'd go elsewhere next time and I wish I had skipped this concert. Oh and it's pretty bad when the concert goers singing the songs are LOUDER than the bands on stage... their sound system sucks. read more

Attended KNON Blues fest last night. Terrific music. Decent set up. But there were over 200 people in attendance. No wait staff and only 3 bartenders at the bar. The bartenders were friendly but way to busy. Since waitress and waiters work for tips, I fail to understand why the level of available service was totally inadequate. read more

First off....this is the poorest stocked bar I have ever seen. The bartender actually over poured a drink on accident... and right in front of me re-poured the iced down liquor back into the bottle.
